I’m personally quite disturbed with the footages I saw this morning on ANC’s Dateline Philippines. They showed Aling Gloria clapping her hands while smiling (okey, laughing) as she was walking with her entourage. Initially, I thought that the footage was taken before the blast. Later on, I realized that it was probably taken inside MMC when she visited those injured (she was wearing her black dress with white floral accent, the same dress she was wearing when she issued a statement on the blast).
This may mean nothing, after all. But then again, if somebody were president, he/she would not want himself/herself getting caught on video clapping (or in a joyous mood) in times like this. To classify this as mere insensitivity is an understatement to say the least.

Following initial police findings that military explosives or components thereof may have been used in the deadly Makati explosion yesterday, umbrella group Bagong Alyansang Makabayan called on the military to account for its explosives and other ordnance.
“If it is true that military explosives were used then the military must find out how those explosives fell into the hands of the perpetrators. These are very serious findings which raises a lot of questions on who was actually involved. Who had access to such military-grade explosives? Were the perpetrators linked with the military? If the perpetrators were from outside the military, how were they able to acquire the explosives?” asked Bayan secretary general Renato M. Reyes, Jr.
“The cynicism of the public towards the Arroyo government is understandable. There have been many text messages and speculations going around on who is responsible for the bombings. It cannot be helped given the timing of the explosion and the perception that it is somehow a distraction from the political crisis,” Reyes said.
The blast happened a time when a full-scale political crisis was brewing between the President and her allies. The crisis has stemmed from serious allegations of bribery involving contracts and the filing of an impeachment complaint against the President.
Reyes said that the concerns raised by the speculations, including those of detained Senator Antonio Trillanes, are not meant to destabilize the Arroyo government.
“Trillanes’ remarks are not totally unfounded or bereft of any historical basis. These kinds of explosions have happened before. People have every right to air their suspicions. Trillanes’ concerns only counterbalances the expected and arbitrary finger pointing of the government to their usual suspects,” Reyes said.
“Government should not blame Trillanes or others who may speculate differently from the administration. Everyone wants to get to the bottom of the explosion which has claimed at least nine civilian lives,” Reyes added.

I would have wanted to keep my own suspicion to myself (which is basically in tune with yours and most other bloggers’ suspicions) until Aling Gloria categorically pinpoints her own suspects. Ako ngang nakikibalita lang, nanahimik bilang paggalang at pakikiisa sa mga namatayan, tapos, here comes the “president” (who is, incidentally, the prime suspect) clapping and laughing her way to (or from)the bedsides of those injured?

MANILA, Philippines–The father of one of those killed in last Friday’s blast at the Glorietta mall in Makati City, has blamed the government for the death of his son and said he was not hopeful that those responsible for the bombing would be brought to court.
“My son was not a victim of an accident, but a collateral damage of a government who wants to divert attention from the present political crisis it’s facing,” Vidamo declared.
Vidamo’s wife, Zenaida, who was also present in the interview, told the Inquirer she was disappointed with the way President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo commiserated with them at the Veronica Funeral Homes in Pasay City on Friday evening.
The President, she said, simply offered her a job, instead of assuring them that justice would prevail in the investigation of the bombing.
“What I would have wanted to hear from her, was she would go after the perpetrators and bring them to justice,” Zenaida said.
There was no such assurance, she said, as Arroyo simply asked her if she had work and then promised to give her one.
She said the President promised scholarship to another son, sent to school by Niñno.
“My son just died of a bomb explosion … and all she could tell me was a promise of a job … and a scholarship for my other son,” Zenaida told Inquirer, while pointing to her chest.
She narrated that after the President left the room after meeting with the other victims’ families, a woman aide of the president called all the mothers of the victims to another room of the funeral parlor.
She said, when she entered the room, she saw the aide handing out envelopes saying “kunting tulong lang ho galing sa presidente [just a small help from the President).”
“I could not feel her sincerity; I was offended by her action, so I refused the money handed out by her aide,” she continued.
She said she found it offensive to be given money that way.

From what I hear, Secretary Teodoro is a no non-sense kind of guy. I think that his recent speech to the PMAers is a peep into what he is all about: “And I know because of your love for country and your dedication to your duty to your country, you will take the first step in unifying each and every one…”
As I mentioned in an earlier thread, we cannot expect anybody in Gloria’s cabinet to go against her. As an example, look what happened to Neri. There are a FEW good men lang talaga. After reading the Inquirer article on Secretary Teodoro, I can only hope that he will among the few.

She would rather let Ayala Land suffer the consequences of the Glorietta 2 blast than her face up to the truth that she has, in her midst, disenchanted military officers who are warning her. She would rather remove the focus of the people away from her & shift it to the Ayalas-if indeed it was an accident, the Ayalas will suffer a black eye as most of their properties will now be in doubt as to its quality. She doesn’t care who she steps on, as long as she is safe. That is how ruthless this woman is.
I would give more weight to the results of Ayala Land’s investigation than listening to Gloria’s tutas give their version of the story. Gloria & her minions are known pathological liars. Since majority of the people suspect that it is Gloria behind this blast, her minions are testing the public to see what the public will accept as the reason behind the blast. At the start of the investigation, they were one in saying that a C-4 bomb was used, because there was RDX present, etc. Now, since the reason boomeranged on Gloria being the one behind this, they all shift gears.
They are all a bunch of Bullshitters. Nothing less. Let them all talk to the hand.

In an article posted today, Sunday (Oct 21 2007), entitled, “P3-M bounty on bomber” in Inquirer.net, I found this part of the article quite suspicious regarding Esperon. Here’s an excerpt of it:
“During a National Security Council briefing in Camp Crame yesterday morning that was presided over by Ms Arroyo, Chief Insp. Grace Eustaquio said traces of RDX—a main ingredient of of the C4 explosive used by the military—had been found at the site.
“It (RDX) is the main component of C4 and is a high explosive. As such, the extent of damage it can cause is really tremendous,” said Eustaquio, head of the Philippine National Police Crime Laboratory’s chemistry division.
Senior Supt. Albert Ferro of the PNP Bomb Data Center said that from 2005 and 2006 information, “we can presume those [explosives] are of military ordnance components. We presume that those explosives could be of that origin.”
The statements of the two officers sparked a spirited discussion among Ms Arroyo and the police, military and Cabinet members present.
At one point in the discussion, Gen. Hermogenes Esperon, the Armed Forces chief of staff, rose from his seat and whispered something to Ferro and Eustaquio. Barias also took his turn to confer with the two.
Reporters covering the meeting were not privy to what Esperon and Barias told the two officers.”

And in that National Security Meeting, note that it was Gloria who kept on reminding the inquisitive and persistent Noli de Castro that it was only RDX and not C4 that was found as conclusive. Presumably so as not to conclude that the military was involved, since C4 can be sourced only from the military.

“Coordinate and cooperate with Church leaders…to identify the perpetrators (of the bombing),” Mrs Arroyo told authorities during a briefing on the bombing incident at the Philippine National Police headquarters at Camp Crame in Quezon City.
President Arroyo issued the order amid calls by Catholic Church leaders for her to resign following corruption issues that marred her administration.

I checked with two reporters who were present during Esperon’s presscon and they said that was not what he said.

Whether or not Esperon said that the unaccounted C-4 bombs were those used during the Oakwood Mutiny, kahit pagbaligtarin ang mundo, sira lalo si Esperon dito, because with the capture of those who participated in that mutiny, dapat nakuha na nila lahat ang ebidensiya, and nasauli na iyong mga bomba na kinuha nila dahil wala namang pinaputok ang Magdalo noon.
Puede ba, bago magsalita si Esperon, isipin niya muna ang sasabihin niya. Bagay, lalo lang nilang binibisto ang ginawa nila! Bobo!
