Calls to ‘Sheik Omar’ diverted to mobiles of oppositionists

Muntinlupa Rep. Rufino Biazon cried foul on Sunday after being dragged in the bombing of the Glorietta shopping mall that killed 11 people and wounded more than 100 in Makati City.
Biazon, senior vice chairman of the House committee on defense, said he had nothing to do with a certain “Sheik Omar” whose purported group, the Rajah Sulaiman Revolutionary Movement, recently claimed responsibility for the bombing.
The police and the military said that the group’s claim has not verified.
The purported admission was circulated over the weekend in text messages, one of which was sent to the lawmaker on Saturday morning. Since then, he said he has been receiving calls from reporters asking if they could interview Omar.
“Apparently, the calls made to the number that had sent the text messages were diverted to my number,” he told the Philippine Daily Inquirer in a phone interview on Sunday.
“There seems to be a pattern that political figures are being dragged into fray of this terror attack. I just can’t tell at this point if this plot is part of the actual attack or if it is just piggy-backing on the issue in the aftermath of the explosion,” he said in a separate press statement.
Later on, similar calls were diverted to the number of Robert de Castro, an official of the Bayan Muna party-list group based in its national headquarters in Quezon City.
“Obviously, someone is playing tricks,” Bayan Muna Rep. Teodoro Casiño told the Philippine Daily Inquirer, parent company of INQUIRER.net.
In a press statement, the group said: “It seems that the person calling himself Sheik Omar and his group are maliciously employing high technology deception by diverting calls to them to cell phone numbers of known political personalities and then feeding their numbers to media reporters and, possibly, government investigators.”
With police investigators still searching for perpetrators of the explosion, Casiño said investigators should start with what he called “the strongest angle.”
“The angle that the bombing was meant to divert attention from the President in the wake of all the scandals involving her administration is very obvious,” he said. “It’s staring them in the face.”
Casiño cited the allegations that President Macapagal-Arroyo bribed congressmen and local officials in connection with the impeachment complaint filed against her by lawyer Roel Pulido.
A related controversy is her purportedly worsening political relationship with Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr., her staunch ally for nearly a decade now.
Casiño noted that the Makati explosion effectively took over these issues in media reports.
“Who can possibly benefit from this act of violence against innocent civilians? Who has the means, opportunity and motive to commit such a dastardly act? Who are possibly behind efforts to link the incident to the Left and other government critics?” his group asked.
“We hope investigators would not ignore the most obvious angle for the bombing, which is that it may have been done to divert public attention away from the current scandals hounding the President and at the same time worsen the political crisis in order to justify some form of strong arm rule.”
President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on Friday warned her detractors from exploiting the blast at the Glorietta 2 mall.

Clearly they wanted to create a diversion and pin this incident down to the critics of the admin. I was surprised that they immediately disregarded the claims of the RSM. They also ruled out an accident. They wanted to blame it on the ‘few good men’. Its a good thing that Sen Trillanes spoke up. Now the spin is that the explosion was an accident. They cant find any trace of RDX when that was all they were saying before. Where is Mayor Binay? He should have his people in there investigating too.

Sabi nung tindero ng tinapa, the moment na binanggit ng taga-crime lab their findings that the traces found were that of a “Military-type explosive”, bigla raw tumayo si Esperon at parang magwo-walkout kaya sinalo ni Noli De Castro at nag-clarifying question kaya bumalik si Esperon sa silya.
Gusto kong malaman kung tinanggal na ba sa Crime Lab yung nagsabing C4 component yung bomba. Kung tutoo, masarap pigain yung mamang iyon.

LPG tanks, when they explode, creates FIREBALLs then creates fire… none of these were reported.
