Trahedya at komedya

Jon-jon Mendoza at iba pang gubernador.

  1. 10 Questions I Would Really Like To Ask President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo

    * Define honesty

    * Is there anything you agree with Senator Lacson on?

    * What do you want your young apos to read about you in their history books?

    * Who do you want to succeed you?

    * What makes you different from President Marcos?

    * Is the presidency worth it?

    * Do you personally believe in Karma?

    * What do you plan to do after 2010?

    * Do you read blogs?

    * Did you vote in PinoyBigBriber.com?

  2. ipaglaban_mo ipaglaban_mo

Pushing that cyber-ed project would be stupid. But then Xmas and new year is almost here, so Gloria and gang need to come up with more “cash-gifts” to spread around again. What’s new?

  3. atty36252 atty36252

How do you educate a dead child?

How do you house the computers which will access the internet when there aren’t enough classrooms?

How do you bring the children into the classrooms when they have to scavenge for their food?

  4. Yup, how will cyber-ed benefit those like Marianette who cannot even make it to school because they don’t have transpo and baon money? Is Gloria planning to give each of them a PC, broadband connection, and electricity money?

    That’s a US-educated, PhD/economist?

  5. parasabayan parasabayan

Marrianet got a lot of gifts at her wake. A little bit too late. As the saying goes “aanhin pa ang damo kung patay na ang kabayo”. Mariannet was and still is the face of extreme poverty! Instead of buying the votes of these tongressmen to the tune of millions, these dole out monies would have been better spent on worthwhile projects for the poverty stricken areas. When half of our population is in poverty, any leader should definitely seriously address this problem. Poverty in our country started way back then even before Marcos’ time, when the earmarked funds for the development in the countryside found their way into the politicians’ pockets. Instead of using the money for worthwhile projects, they are used to build their mansions, buy signature stuff for their wives and mistresses, even travel and cruise in luxury and vote buying come election time so these crook politicians will forever be in power and have a milking cow! When almost a third of the population can not afford the basic necessities in life, the other two thirds have to reach out to this segment of the population. Gawad Kalinga has done so much but funds are dwindling and rifts in the manangement are starting to show.

What does the government and private sector have to do to uplift the conditions of the poor? Most of these people barely went to school and are products of illiterate parents and one of the ten sibblings maybe. Parents married in their teens( both in the same situation of poverty)hoping that maybe when they will have children they will be better blessed. With uneducated and unemployed parents and ten uneducated and malnourished children, this exponencially expands into a colony of poverty stricken citizens. No matter how many billions will be spent on this segment of our society, nothing happens. The poor will still be poor. The billion the “tiyanak” recently decreed will just buy these people noodles for several days and then what? Unless projects are created like small cottage industries where the finished products have guaranteed markets; training of the citizens for skilled or semi-skilled labor; free or government subsidized housing and education for the kids; family planning is a must for every young families to stress the fact that life should not be created unless the parent is ready to raise the child to be a worthy citizen; funds should flow direct to the projects and not just through the politicians’ pockets and full accountability of the funds should be implemented subsequently punishing those who steal the proceeds; health should be utmost by creating a basic health centers accessible to the citizens who may not even have the money to pay for their fare; crime should be minimized by having a task force to see that the citizens are not exploited.

Definitely, a billion pesos will not suffice. Dole out money for the poor if given through a middleman spells more corruption for the vulture politicians! It is about time the private sector gets involved in these endeavors of helping the poor. We can not rely solely on the government to alleviate the conditions of the poor particularly when most of the elected officials are corrupt! In our own small way, let us adopt a child, maybe a family and for those who are more blessed, adopt a village. Aid in the construction of a make shift home for them or donate a pair goat or piglets for their livelihood or for the more fortunate ones, donate a land for these poor people so they will not squat just anywhere else. Let us invest in the children of these poor people and maybe we have hope one day that our poor brothers will have improved lives. With almost 10 million OFWs, this group is a force to contend with. Instead of spoiling the kids with electronic devices and signature stuff, get your children involved in the concept of helping. Explain to them that instead of buying a three thousand peso original signature shirt, they can settle for a 200 pesos decent looking shirt and the rest can go to a cause to help a needy child. OFW children will feel that they too have participated in the upliftment of poverty and they will be proud of their accomplishments.

Other Asian countries like Korea went through the phase of work migration like what we are going through now. But look at their country now? We too can beat poverty if we only divorce ourselves from pure materialistic pursuits! Let us practice “bayanihan” in all aspects of our lives. Look around you and if your have a big loaf of bread, break it and share it with everyone!

we should buy our own products not the smuggled cheap products. It will only be then that we can truly say we are helping our country!

I am sorry for my very long post. I was very touched by the suicide of this little girl. She is just one of the millions of children who are crying for help from us! Let us open our eyes and our purses! Adopt a child now! If you can help the child directly by setting up accounts straight to the school and the boarding house, bypasssing the middle man, it works much better or if there is a good guardian (not one who is always so needy for cash), it would work too. Be careful in donating money to organizations who would spend most of the money in overhead expenses, leaving so little for the intended recipient.

Hi I’m an ardent reader of your blog Ate Ellen.

  9. I can give you an experienced honest advice. There are plenty of poverty stricken under nourished children out there and small projects crying out for help but you need to get out of your service and walk the talk.
If anyone is serious about assisting these kids be sure you are prepared to have deep pockets and do it yourself because not many people will assist you for long not even the Congressmen with fancy paper bags of loot.
According to the question of Arroyo’s intentions, just read the 20 scams published on my blog, and there’s many more money earning scams on her list of ‘earners’, she will even make money out of childrens suicides giving the excuse of her cyber-ed project.

  10. parasabayan parasabayan

WWNL, I am one of those that walk the talk. This is why I do not like help to be coursed through anyone in the government. Directly helping the children is the best. I did it for years and had helped kids and some of them are now reaping the rewards, college grads and are working to help other needy families too. In a poor country like ours, scamming seem to be the number one lucrative job. That is why I said, eliminate the middleman and send the aid straight to the beneficiary. I do not believe in the tongressmen and senatongs and even the provincial elected officials like sabit swingson and the like. I do not even believe in the mayors and barangays although in my little adopted hometown the current mayor and the previous one seem to be honorable men and had done great things for the locals. There may still be a few good men among our public servants but just a few.

One does not have very deep pockets to help. A few hundred pesos from a few donors, collectively can pull a child out of poverty. Even members of my family cut on their daily expenses just to buy milk for an infant who needed the help.

Tiyanak will exploit all situations to justify more loot for her. The impeachment complaints are on the table and she needs billions to pay off all the tongressmen so they will throw out the petition again. The 2010 elections( if there will be any) needs trillions of pesos to fund so she will continue to be in power. Her crony will have to win again this time so she will not be hanged, FVR style! The cyber space project is a bigger project than the anomalous ZTE project. Think about the trillions of pesos going into the tiyanak and her cronies’ pockets. Already Zubiri is pushing for alternative energy sources kuno. He is talking about millions of trees to be planted for this purpose. Just one project for this cheat will have paid for all the bribe money he paid to be a senatong! Talk about return on investment!

  11. parasabayan:
Its good to know that you are assisting these families. I’ve made a habit of visiting poor barrio families thats how I see for myself these kids walking to school when not having a breakfast because of no food on the table.
There is also a huge problem with their need for medical assistance with most of our doctors and nurses going abroad. It is getting harder for me to find a doctor let alone to find one willing to travel to dangerous areas in Mindanao – these families can’t even afford the bus fare to the city hospital let alone medical expenses.

If I had my way I would make it compulsory for every member of government to spend a minimum of two weeks with me at the sharp end of life to bring them down to size and respect the plight of the ‘ordinary’ filipino, if it were not for the women of this country we could never survive, in the main the husbands are a waste of space.

  12. luzviminda luzviminda

  13. The main cause of blindness (62%) in the Philippines are Cataracts (2.4 M people) A Survey of Blindness in 2001 determined that 62 percent of all blindness in the Philippines is caused by cataracts, placing this condition as one of the immediate health concerns in the country since it is reversible & treatable.
I know of an Australian with an efficient organisation who performs cataract surgery for a cost of 5$US – there is no need for cataracts, thats unless your making a big profit!

  14. Recently I arranged for a patient to have cataracts removed for FREE and they are now working earning a living for their family needs instead of being dependent on others.

  15. parasabayan parasabayan

WWNL, I grew up in a family where my dad had to be forced retired from a higher provicial position ( government) at an early age because of health conditions. Mother had to raise the family from her meager salary as an office administrator. There was a point in time when my brothers and sister had to live with aunts and uncles to survive and after my father was nursed back to a better health we all were one again. Food was scarce at times but my parents still had the heart for the more disadvantaged people. My parents would welcome abandoned kids to our home. They ate with us and had the chance to go to school and learn some skill. Our maids ate at the dinner table with us because my father wanted it that way. The children of our maids were sent to school.

Not too long ago a relative rode a taxi and lo and behold the cab driver was one of those kids helped by my family. He cried when he was narrating the story of how we somehow helped him when he was in grade school. Abandoned by one parent and the remaining parent was an abusive alcoholic. There are stories after stories of kids my parents helped inspite of the fact that they could hardly help their very own children.

To this day, I practice what my parents had done all those years. One does not have to be deep pocketed to help kids. One simply has to have a heart. When our leaders fail us, we should help one another to get ourselves out from th purgatorylike country we are in.

  17. Let me end this by telling you that a well known cataract organisation scolded me for arranging FREE cataract surgery for patients when telling me that I was taking away the livelyhood of doctors, they were speachless when I told them that these patients could not even afford the bus fare to the hospital, so the doctors would never see them without my assistance!

  18. parasabayan parasabayan

WWNL, I like your idea of forcing government officials in their local territories to spend sometime in the barrios. Why don’t you lobby for it. Maybe a bill can be passed in this regard.

You might be intersted to know that there are so many professionals now who left our country to look for greener pastures abroad years back and are retiring back to the Philippines for good. Some of these are doctors and nurses. Not only do they still know how to cure and take care of the sick, they now have money to probably build a school or a small health center. Usually when I meet one future retiree I always tell them to help the kids and the aging people. Maybe you should actively look for these retirees and tap them to replace the young and adventurous ones who leave to seek greener pastures. Have a bird dog(a scout) to track these people down. I will let Ellen know if I know of some who may be retiring soon to Mindanao.

WWNL continue your very good work. I read how you helped a lot in the 2007 elections. You are one of the few good men. Your efforts are never wasted if they are done for the good of more of our fellowmen.

    2. Outlaw kabits.
    3. Outlaw beer and liqour.
    4. Outlaw political dynasties.
    5. Outlaw firearms.
    6. Outlaw motels.
    7. Outlaw porkbarrels.
    8. Outlaw using other peoples’ money to feed your child(ren).
    9.
    10. Outlaw using private vehicles belonging to others.

  20. parasabayan parasabayan

WWNL, there are also organizations like the Lions Club, Rotary Club and medical missions organized by doctors and professionals all over the world. Hook up with one in the areas you need help. We can not single handedly cure the ills of our country but we can take baby steps to help our countrymen. Be easy on yourself. There are aids worldwide. Bill Gates (one of the richest men in the world) and Warren Buffet (another super rich man) just donated billions of dollars to the causes of the poor. A letter coming from you backed by an endorsement of a legitimate organization can do wonders you know. I actively participated in the Lions Club for years as one of the officers so I know that they can help you in your endeavor. Contact your local chapter.

  21. parasabayan:
I like you for your innocence (smile) I’m a member of a Lions Club and sad to say its full of their own kind of politics and can’t get beyond “medical & dental check up” a complete waste of time. Like most organisations its a rank/position organisation and the big question is always will it get them their next vest? similat to local government. I’m thankful for your suggestion, your hearts in the right place.
You can read about a cataract scam in my blog, filed under ‘Health Dept.’

thanks ellen for this post. My husband an I had taken on three scholars maski our means of livelihood is erratic. We just had to because one of them was like a marianette. Although not suicidal, but hopeless. We took it upon ourselves to also have them help us around the house and garden during Saturdays to add to the allowance we give. Aside from these, we see to it to look at their report cards and see where we can help in terms of books and guidance. We can only however, limit ourselves with these three young people. There are many others here waiting and hoping to be helped out. It is usually the foreigners helping. They can really be sincere (no strings attached)…I vouch for that. Other than the young, so many adults have only reached the 2nd or 6th grade and wish to have night classes even just to help them improve on their empowerment. We hope to (in the future) buy a small house nearby and make it into a community center where the community can help it spin on its own—they just need someone to organize it.

  23. parasabayan parasabayan

WWNL, sorry to hear that even the Lions club in your area are corrupted too. I happen to be in a part of the world where things are done in a more straightforward manner although born, raised, schooled in the Philippines and had worked in almost all capacities from the lowest of all ranks to the highest possible position in an organization. If the leader of the land gets away with all her crimes and can still manage to grin at the end of the day, what can we expect from the rest of our countrymen. I guess there are just a few of us left to make the licking the poverty a serious business. Since you are internet savvy, Google the international sites for sources of funds for the third world countries. If these big funders know they can start a worthwhile project, they will help. Google, google, google and you will get somewhere, sometime. Mindanao is a milking cow of those in power for insurgency funds, never for the benefit of the locals.

I think I read the cataract scam by the doctors not too long ago. It is a practice not just in the Philippines but worldwide. The only difference is, in the Philippines the criminals can get away with it but in most civilized countries these criminals are caught and imprisoned.

  24. parasabayan parasabayan

MBW, more power to you! See, we can all do it! Even in small businesses, business owners can sponsor a child to go to school. If only we can get all the school aged children to attend school, we can stir our destiny to someplace in due time. Instead of blaming the parents for having so many children thus not able to care for them and put them to school, let us just embrace the children and help them. Maybe it may be too late for the parents to learn but educating children is an all season business.

  25. cocoy cocoy

According to the story I heard from these living old age seniors, most people did not attend secondary school,They obtained Remedial English Certificate from American linguist and they are paid compensation to teach the language to Basilio and Sisa, but at that time it was not nearly so important as it is today. At that time the social fabric was much more fluid,The more children they have, the more they are blessed. They are collecting more dowries from their daughter’s weeding. It was possible to enter into politics, the more relatives they have, the more chance of winning in majority plus one vote,do architectural design and engineering work, look at the vintage house that is in existence today.Only 4 pillars in its corner and a tall ladder of so many steps, they even be admitted to the bar without a college education, they have less prisoners because the murder cases was quashed by the judge with 29 pisetas and a parcel of land. That time a person who knew how to bend a wounds and administered penicillin is called a doctor or kumadrona. Most people celebrated 100 birthdays, A poor man could rise to the top by working hard on his full-time job and moonlighting looking for a rope in a pasteur land tied in a cow or carabao, and letting the world educate them; this is no longer possible, the carabao was been replaced by John Deere and Kubota

  26. cocoy cocoy

    Con’t;

Today it need for college education in order to have a chance to get a job in floor management master in polishing and certified in Lysol handling.I remember from my childhood, which gravely told by my parents “to get a good job, get a good education”. I have no argument with that, except to inquire about what constitutes a good education, and what needs to be done, and endured in order to attain one. There is also the matter of what an education should do for me, is it simply preparation for a job as the aforementioned commercial implies, or is there more to it. I believe that education should teach me how to think; I believe that my minds and my attitudes should be molded. Once, I was punished in school by the mother superior with an attempt to teach morals, and proper behavior. I have taken English courses which were so biased and opinionated in the assigned readings, and in the required themes, that I felt I should be getting credit for a polsci, or cultural diversity course to become politician I have also taken biology courses my second option is to become a doctor in human and animals in sow breeding and cloning horse to carabao, where I were lectured on the evils of industry in funeral parlor and to the environment, and geology courses which taught me that all land developers are evil and should be thrown in jail.I don’t want to become land grabber either and decided a plan to enter to business on gravel and sands but, the dump truck has a broken axle. I shudder to think of what the history, and sociology courses must be like. Are all of these things truly what education should be doing for me, or should it simply be the presentation of facts, and the passing on of skills.

Today as I am relaxing, in the corner of my retrospection there is a queries unanswered, Do I blame my parents for my half failure, or do I do the same as the poor blaming the government for their misfortune? Is it Marcos,Aquino,Ramos,Erap or Arroyo’s fault?

  27. When an 11 year old girl is so down because of lack of food on the table and no transportation fare to go to school, write her thoughts in her book then thinks life is so bad that she commits suicide and in response to this tragic event no less than the Leader of this country says that the answer is commissioning her cyber-ed project, you can bet your life I think the government is irresponsible
so therefore responsible. Any Leader is either callous or has a screw loose, or maybe both!.

  28. harvy harvy

Pinoy BigBriber hit it right in the head. If bribes were given in La Vista according to Zuce. Then bribes can be given in Malacanan. The pinoy big briber has many houses. Each of them wreaks with bribery. Paano sya palalayasin. Like the poor little girl, she’d have to kill herself. She has been shooting herself in the mouth yet her lord keeps on letting her get away. Tapusin mo na laban PBB pls.

  29. cocoy cocoy

Poverty and extreme hardship is to be blame to a person not the government, because government can not give some to the people unless they get it first from the people. People need also to look for their situation. Government will not eliminate poverty, If there was just two people left on earth, one would be poor and the other would be rich enough to enslave him. That’s what humans are. The government sure are corrupt. These slums are full of poverty, Why don’t the government jump the fence and help them?? Many of those great politicians aren’t what they make themselves out to be; they oppress the poor as much as they help, and take advantage of the law to oppress. But then they pray in public, and that makes it OK; because only sinners always pray.

So, it’s the people who make a choice ,Birth control will help tone the problem down. That much is sure. There is no one definite solution to any equation this large. Say you have a family of 10, the mom skipped town and boarded the plane to work as OFW, the father now has to raise all these children all by himself. If you know any broken families than you know how hard it is for single parents. You might also be aware that girls without their mother are less subjective to discipline and usually become pregnant and addicts of some sort through their rebellious attitudes. These are just a few layers of the snowball effect that broken over populated areas have. Why does dad still live in the slums? Maybe because he has 10 kids and can barely work to put food on the table. What if they had only one kid? What if they had no kids? Get the picture? Keep the legs shut, government don’t care if they have more than a dozen of children.

Of course! This suicide is a good publicity for Arroyo, her condolence and plastic sympathy makes the poor people understand her that she’s compassionate and poor are overwhelmed majority.Even Arroyo gave all poor people 500,000 pesos each, they will lose the money due to lack of education.

  30. bisaya bisaya

Hi, Ellen and fellow bloggers. This issue we’re talking about-poverty and hopelessness and the indifference of the people from the palace by the stinking river boils down to the military leadership’s ignorance! They totally forgot their sworn duty to protect the CITIZENS and the Republic! PMA’rs at that mostly. They became blinded by money from GMA! The higher ups in GHQ may not bother and even find the gripes of the masa as politically inspired but what about the rest of the AFP? Wala na bang matatapang at yun lang bang nakakulong ngayon ang last of the Mohican’s ‘ika nga? Change of leadership and good governance ang magumpisa ng pagbabago at thru the AFP ang initial moves, not in congress and not in the judiciary!

BTW about Capt. Maestrecampo, what I said is A1 info. I’m not going to go at length to prove or argue with it, matagal na ito. Konsensya na lang ang huhusga. Sabi ko nga siguro when you see your men die in front of you as a leader you’ll pobably say “lintek lang ang walang ganti!” For a fact I’m aware that in war people will do all evil things and the last thing a soldier wants is war! In fairness to the captain we will not judge but try to understand the circumstances. But it makes me shake my head in disgust when he and Gambala recanted and saluted the impostor!

  31. parasabayan parasabayan

Cocoy, what it boils down to is still education. Education is not just finishing a college degree. One can just be a high school graduate and has a skill that earns him money to provide for his family. Exactly my point earlier. We can not put all the burden on our government knowing fully well that our elected officials’ first agenda for themselves is not to serve the people but to secure a future for themselves. But the government can put up schools and hire teachers to man them. The government can formulate family planning seminars for the poorer areas. The government can build health centers and man them. Yes the government can mobilize people and money to help the poor. The poor have to help themselves by availing of those services. But if these services are not available to them, what is there to avail of?

With our natural resources and our well sought after manpower who are in demand worldwide, we do not have any reason to be a poor country. But because we are the most corrupt country in Asia, most of our country’s income goes to the fattened pigs( politicians top the list)! The poor would be extremely lucky if 20 centavo out of a peso will even reach them. Maybe only less than 5 % of the population(mostly the elected officials) make 80% of the money. Check out who lives in Forbes Park and the other posh subdivisions, they are the senatongs and tongressmen and other locally elected officials. Add now to the list corrupt generals in the likes of asspweron! Check out who drives a brand new Mercedes or BMW, it is the senatongs, tongressmen, governors, mayors and generals. These elected officials do not only own mansions and fancy cars, they now learned to use dummies to acquire real estate in different parts of the world and know how to deposit their loot in Swiss bank accounts. They also enjoy going on international tours and cruises in style. The Pidals top the list but all of a sudden the young Cayetano shut up on this. Because again, the loot is big in these higher positions. No one will squeal for fear that when the time comes for them to take the loot, someone will squeal on them. These top officials approves the big contracts. There are kickbacks left and right. But these kickbacks are padded unto the loan given to us. So our debts get bigger everytime a contract is entered into by these politicians. We have trillions of pesos of debts. The payments of these debts eat up the money for the improvement of services. It is like being in debt with credit cards. The interest piles up and borrowers are deprived of their spending money because the principal and interest on the debt get most of the individual’s income. Everything is equated to money and power for these elected officials. So, while it is true that the people have responsibilities for themselves, the government have the responsibility to take care of the people as well. It takes two to Tango, so they say.

Corrupt payments to win major contracts, concessions and privatizing of companies are generally the preserves of large businesses and high-level officials. Although sometimes low-level clerks are bribed to reveal information, and some smaller businesses bribe to get routine supply contracts, the important cases represent a substantial expenditure of funds and can have a major impact on a government’s budget and a country’s growth prospects.

Anti bribery laws in or country are dead letters that mean nothing. The laws are seldom enforced, and when they are, political opponents of the regime in power seem to be targeted. The White Lady do the patching on a brown envelope. The struggle and arm twisting of the Tongressman to appropriate the gains of public projects can have a destructive impact in our country’s economic and political system. When the struggle generates no productive benefits and is just a fight to divide a fixed pie. This can occur on both sides of the corrupt transaction. Similarly, potential entrepreneurs may abandon the private sector and become public officials in allocating mollah to there mistresses pocket. In a democracy, people may seek political office, not to fulfilll some idea of public service, but to extract as many benefit for themselves and their supporters.

Parasabayan, Everything is equated to money and power for these elected officials. So, while it is true that the people have responsibilities for themselves, the government have the responsibility to take care of the people as well. It takes two to Tango, so they say. Yes, I bet on that! But,,none of these reforms will be easy to accomplish, but experiments and new initiatives are necessary if the move against corruption is to be more than just a series of rhetorical flourishes.

I have nothing against Vicky Morales and her show “Wish Ko Lang”.It’s good to have shows like this to help in their own little way the poorest of the poor but in my own opinion they made a mistake in airing on TV the help they extended to the Amper family. They might deliver the wrong message and idea to a lot of poor kids watching the TV program. They should have just help the family minus the fanfare.

    Parasabayan:
Re;what it boils down to is still education.I agree!

Education is the key to overcoming poverty in our country. Education is the foundation towards economic development if we want to suppress poverty. If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day, If you teach a man how to fish you feed him for a lifetime. Our country is rich with natural resources, but neglect of education has just made them poor. Sending children to school and helping them to have further education gives them light to escape from poverty.

When our people are mostly literate and well-educated, it will be feasible to introduce new technology, new practical laws and especially to invite their co-operation and participation in the development process. This means we need human resources. Considered better education in Cyber-ed is turning a blind eye to education quality improvement that is not optimistic that it can be improved. Corruption makes our people poor. This may be right. But, people you make them poorer if they don’t know they are poor and don’t act on it. Don’t just say that they are poor because they don’t have money: our poverty is of many other things, such as knowledge of critical thinking and how to get rid of poorness.

By any standard the Philippines is not a poor country where people should be driven in despair due to poverty. It is that the resources and services are not dispense to the people in a proper way.

There are no sincere efforts on the part of the social services to address the issues of child poverty on the long term basis, but always on the “band aid” basis and only when such sad tragedy come to highlight such issue.

For example, I wrote the head of Child Welfare, DSWD about the case of mother and child somewhere in Manila that could warrant the agency’s attention, but nary a reply,(too busy maybe)and could get the President’s attention if it hits the headline, then act along with a show of some “crocodile tears” for sympathies to the victims and another band aid solutions, instead of long term preventions that may have avoided such sad tragedy as the loss of innocence and life of Mariannette Amper, a child who had never have the opportunity to live life every child should…and how many more Mariannette Amper we have waiting for us, our leaders in Government, in our Churches, in Businesses and in our schools to re-examine ourselves and answer that question we so denied for so long? we are all responsible for all our problems and it will only get worse if we don’t ask another question..Where did we go wrong?? Yes, there are answers.

Above lifted from my own comment at PCIJ under my handle at that site…

And to the Administration which I believe contributed greatly to this tragedy: what have you got to say about instead of another “isolated case” or we are doing something about it by releasing another Billion pesos, that we never know where will it go again as before. Let there be no more Mariannette Amper, because someday she could be your own daughter and if these “norm” as we see keep going on, the day of reckoning will not be far…

Stand-up comedy may just save the day for these people in the event that they get ejected form Small Sister’s house (hopefully, with Small Sister in tow)

    Sino ang dapat sisihin? kapwa ang pamahalaan at ang simbahan, (sa pangunguna ng CBCP) ang may pananagutan sa pagpapatiwakal ni MARIANNET. Sa dalawang kadahilanan;

God bless pos a inyong lahat.

Oh’ Dakilang Lumikha, kaawaan mo ang aming Inang Bayang Pilipinas.

Endings ones life to escape poverty is lacking intelligence decision no matter what might be the reasons. A lot of soul searching is required when one points a finger towards themselves in an attempt to discover that they are hopeless. We know that at the bottom of our hearts there lie talents and abilities unknown to us. It is only through hard work, goals, missions, passions and emotions that there is the power of bringing them to light. One of the ways to discover talents and abilities, hidden in us, is to examine the traits of successful people, successful in lives has revealed that the common trait among us is the capacity for sustained work. Work harder than an average person, once an objective and goal have been formed. It has been said time and again that the primary difference between a big man and a little man is that the little man quits when he is tired and sleepy, while that is the very time when the big man works harder. He works hard with the intention towards a common goal. As long as a person limbs attach to the body, there is a lot of ways to live.

thank you parasabayan for those kind words. Yes, education is much thristed for where we are (somewhere in the mountains of Mindoro) but education with caring and a sense of one-ness with the students. I know a lot of educators are remiss in these because of so many factors.
Simple folks leave politics and fighting “city hall” to the learned middle class. That is the educated middle class’ responsibility to the people. The impoverished majority needs to be fed, sheltered and educated so they can belong to the middle class…then they can think for themselves and fight for higher principles. There are still a few “poor” political idealists I personally know but they do not have the machinery of the trapos even here in the barangay level. As long as they are marginalized they will go where the moneyed politicians go, sell their loyalties even because for them politics is and will belong to the upper classes. To level these and have a stronger number or critical mass of intelligent voters and citizen, the middle income bracket will have to flourish. This is what we tell our scholars, our gift of education is there so that they can make choices as adults and not fall into the feeling of being victims forever. Sorry for the long post.

  41. Pareng Cocoy,

Your words are, indeed, words of wisdom. Fortunately for us, we have the means to, at least, recognize abstract concepts as talent, goals, and missions. Fortunately for us, we have the means to examine the traits of successful people.

Unfortunately for Marianette, those means were never there. Given her situation, I would say, she had the instinct to recognize hope only in its absence. It would have been a crucial learning experience had she realized that hope is something one holds on to even when it is not there.

Again, we have a system that provides opportunities to those who already have them while marginalizing those who are already marginalized.

Marianette is just one of the many millions of faceless victims of this system. Fortunately, most of the victims realize that holding on to hope, even when it seemed nowhere is the only means they have to stay sane, even just to stay alive.

So, you’re eleven time zones away. Have a good night’s sleep, Pare. I may be coming back to Chicago next summer. I’d see if I can do a sidetrip to California to visit my relatives and have coffee with you, then. Kapeng Barako ha.

Totally agree with you Ka Enchong, so many of us, clung to that hope no matte how dim it was, but for so many they can only hang on for so long as everyone of us has a limit and when we reached that limit, we lost all hopes and we welcome the relief.

We really can not really speak for them unless we are in the situation in body and mind, but as a society, the leadership is vested the power and authority to work on their behalf and to them we put our trust and to us they are accountable…

  44. …but as a society, the leadership is vested the power and authority to work on their behalf and to them we put our trust and to us they are accountable…

Leadership can only exist with the consent of the led. Authority comes only as a trade off for responsibility. Once leadership skirts responsibility for tragedies like this while quickly claiming credit for “soon-to-be-felt” economic strides, when rules apply only to the led while the leadership takes pride in claiming exemptions to the very same rules, I wonder if any semblance of the Social Contract exists in our society.

I cannot blame government for empty tables (if, at all, there are tables), neither can I blame government for sentiments ranging from apathy to utter hopelessness. However, I hold the government accountable for failing to provide an environment conducive to worthwhile livelihood activities. I hold government accountable for failing to cultivate an atmosphere of mutual trust and respect, where diverse viewpoints are encouraged and hope can take wings.

It is not government’s responsibility to give us fruits, but it is government’s responsibility to ensure that seeds we plant take root on fertile soil.

    Thanks, Vic.

  45. Again, we have a system that provides opportunities to those who already have them while marginalizing those who are already marginalized. – Ka Enchong

I guess it’s high time now to reexamine ourselves if capitalism is indeed the right economic system for us.

I believe that capitalism is only suitable in a society where all its citizens start at equal footing, that all must possess the same opportunity to grow. Everybody must be adequately literate and capable of understanding relevant social issues in order to render intelligent judgment when democratic rights [suffrage] is required.

A very qualified example is Jollibee. Yes, we must be proud of Jollibee for it is Langhap-Pinoy going global. But if you consider the threat of Tio Pepe’s Karenderia [a JB-owned company] on smalltime restaurants, the outcome would be
    undesirable.

At this point, I think we should embrace socialism first before we venture into a free for all, survival of the fittest capitalism.

Otherwise, expect more Mariannet taking a shortcut to the afterlife.

*to take over private institutions that run public utilities

How about merging of two systems? Like adapting the strengths of one and the other and discarding the weaknesses in both.

This is what they do in most European countries and even in the US and China, a hybrid of sorts, a natural evolutionary outcome of both admittedly imperfect economic systems.

The triumph of one need not result in the defeat of the other.

By the way, I’m just wondering whether Maa, the place where Mariannet (Amper) lived, is under the jurisdiction (I don’t know if I’m using the right word) of Prospero Nograles, who is the Congressman of the First District of Davao City ? & also of Duterte (don’t know his first name) Mayor of Davao City ?

Poverty does not equal Suicide. Poverty, in this case, was a convenient excuse for acting out one of the many symptoms of DEPRESSION. In a rich country like America, suicide is epidemic among young people despite early intervention by mental health professionals. Stop this “blame” game. So like it or not here is the problem, poor Economy & lack of Employment. The Arroyo OFW program is nothing but ‘band aid’ governance. The present problem can only be corrected by producing employment HERE and an economy suitable for the POOR to benefit. Education is NOT the problem.

  69. Education related to Employment has its own problems because everyone wants thier children to become Lawyers or Doctors even when they eventually qualify the jobs for them are not there, so they enrol as nurses or care givers abroad – crazy or what!

  70. Magbabasa na lang ako. Keep it coming guys.

  71. Please tell me – why dont we have schools specialising in technical subjects that would eventually produce quality workers in quality factories here. Thats the way to attract investors bringing their factories here looking for highly trained employees. Lets not knock the poor just because they’re not unemployed Lawyers or Doctors.

A retired Presidential Security Group general told us you cannot bring such big boxes of money into Malacañang without the President knowing about it.

Once again, Malacañang raises a presumption of guilt when it announced it will not allow its officials to testify at a scheduled Senate probe on Nov. 14. If they do, their perjury will be established.

The bottom line — where did the money come from? Certainly, the League of Provinces of the Philippines and Kampi do not have that kind of money. Either it is public funds or it is GMA’s money.

Once again, Malacañang credibility is zero here.

  74. wwnl,
Don Bosco schools all over the Philippines are doing that. Every Bosconian High School graduate gets two diplomas, one for academics the other for vocational. For the whole 4 yrs. of high school, they are trained in a specific trade with skills honed mainly by technology transferred by majority-European (German/Italian/French)scientists/engineers/instructors who are also priests at the same time. Suffice it to say that they are updated in terms of technology, lab equipment, and learning aids and at par with European tech schools in the fields of Automotive, Electrical Tech., Computer & Electronics Tech., Machine Shop Tech., Graphic Arts, Industrial Drafting w/ CADD, etc. They also offer college-level associate vocational courses indirectly-subsidized (or even free to deserving student) from the tuition they get from their private schools. Education is run by a Catholic congregation, the Salesians, who have the most number of priests in the world, all of them trained technically

Another, Dual Tech, a German-funded institution is similar to Don Bosco but instead of getting funds from a congregation they get private help, their curriculum centers on internship, a pseudo-scholarship wherein private business pay the kids’ tuition in return for OJT. Hence, “Dual” Tech. Four days in the sponsor’s plant and one day in school make the students’ week.

TESDA, Meralco Foundation, NMYC and a few others are notable non-profit institutions involved in skills training .

Skills education is available in many parts of the country. Its sad however, if we go back to the P100 project or pamasahe and baon thing. Tsk tsk tsk.

  75. TT:
Thanks for that info, maybe I didn’t realise this because of my tunnelled vision in what I do and limited to my own small area of mountains, only dealing with small run down private (Co-op schools) that were abandoned by the church so are not now connected to a church. I avoid the church, I’m a believer but its my way of being seen to catering for all faiths (or none at all), besides the church abandoned them because these schools were not profitable, I guess thats a sign of the times, sad.
Now I’m armed with your informatin I will investigate it and try to offer it up within my various planned projects here on Mindanao, if I get the chance.
    Thanks again.

We all Filipino like all things in a constant state of change, to accept that it is set in stone for all time does not stand up to even the most simple analysis. The lectured I learned from my college professor that people’s idea of individualism under socialism is based on the idea that socialism is represented by either Stalin’s Russia or Mao’s China. This brings to my mind everyone running around in uniform, in terms of both their clothing and their behavior, and an all-powerful state to which the rights and wishes of the individual are subservient, in the interests of the whole of society. In reality it was not the whole of society whose interests were being served in those cases but the interests of the small bureaucratic clique who led a parasitic existence on the backs of the working class, and on the back of the nationalized, planned economy. That Stalinists socialism were terrified by opposition and the intellectuals that they could not control.Stalinist were snuffed out literally.

Sosyalismo is already implemented in our government. It is a Pidalism society we live in today. Pidalist socialism, in reality the profit based society is one that engenders greed, selfishness, and egotism. It is a society based on the idea of kill or be killed, and will do all arms twisting to get ahead. In the name of commissions, the talents and abilities of the vast majority of people are squandered, people are unemployed, only being an OFW is an open option. We don’t have the right to a job, the right to an education, the right to dengue vaccine, the rights that could ensure the healthy flesh and bones of a Pango civilized existence.

A genuine socialism is one where the rights of all Filipinos can truly flourish, without any force or coercion from Esperon. It will be a society without borders and frontiers, Not the Bagong Lipunan of Marcos. A society based on the democratic running of all aspects of life by the whole of society on the basis of an economy of super-abundance, where all our needs and more can be catered for.

Kapitalismo at Demokrasya is not the same pareho.Under capitalism there is no real democracy. Yes,we can vote in every presidential and congressional elections.Butlook at who stands in those elections.Only those who have enough money to do so.Who finances their campaigns? The big corporations of coure! So we do not have a real choice there is democracy only for the rich and powerful.

The government which is elected does not really have much choice of what policies to follow. When the all richest people have a combined wealth equal to more than all million ordinary Pinoy, they are the ones who really run the country. With their economic decisions they determine the lives of the people. When the interests of these big corporations are threatened they use the government to save them.Look! why the government are compromising on all the taxes of Lucio Tan.Why the biggest Mall of Asia is in our country?

A more recent example is the ongoing trade war between the shark businessman and the small Tiange and karenderia of Inday, the point is that the investment and the 5/6 interests of Inday is threatened.Government and political parties are in the last instance a tool of big business and they are the ones who determine the policies which are implemented. These parties do not exist in a vacuum but are directly funded and influenced by the big corporations. Therefore they do not really act in the name of law, truth, or justice, but in the interests of the hand that feeds them.

Under real democracy the people would have real control over their lives. They would be able to democratically elect their representatives in government, and at the same time these representatives would have real power over the economy, to really change things. These officials would be subject to immediate recall if they did not satisfactorily do the jobs they were elected for. The people would then elect someone else who they thought would do things better. Also, these elected officials would not earn any more than a skilled worker.Unlike today where the perks often outweigh the salary of our elected officials. This will get rid of careerist and make sure that the people doing the jobs are there because they want to be there, not so they can get extra benefits from the job. These elected officials would also come from all members of society,it would be a truly people’s democracy.

  79. In an Advanced Society, the basic needs of the people are made “more basic”, that is, they are made more accessible by everybody, wherever, whenever.

The State shall provide free food, shelter, clothing, and proper education to everyone, because that is its ultimate function. The State must serve every living soul within it, and not classify whether one is “tamad” or not. In fact, it is hopelessness that makes people lose their sanity, and motivation to work.

One of the arguments in favor of capitalism is it forces one to be creative. On the contrary, it eliminates the creative capacities and talents of many who have gone hungry due to the concentration of wealth to a limited few. Every human being is born with cognitive intelligence enough to make him useful in the society where he belongs. Intelligence is not a monopoly of heirs to wealth accumulated through political maneuvering, and deceit.

The greatest asset in our country is its citizens, and its rich natural resources. Yet we have not efficiently tapped their fullest potential for lack of foresight and management skills.

Yes, Capitalism is undemocratic, and monopolistic.

Canada and other welfare states have been successful in their welfare system. Welfare System is a basic feature of a Socialist System. It is Canada’s recognition of the fact that a purely capitalist enterprise is unproductive in the long run due to the eventual reduction of creative effort, that motivates them to “compromise” with this socialist idea of a welfare state.

But the same can’t work here, because legislative priorities are dependent on the leadership prerogative of someone in power, be it one of the capitalists, or its dummy.

The satisfaction of basic needs should be a “common agenda” to whoever comes to power. This is something that can’t be expected from traditional politicians now in power, therefore must be written into our own Constitution through an uprising, peaceful or otherwise.

I am convinced that we must change the system to that which will finally address hunger, homelessness, and illiteracy, directly. A system that will force our leaders to implement measures that will give us this outcome the soonest possible, instead of pinning our hopes to the Ramos /Arroyo doctrine of ‘trickle down’ effect.

I think we must give Socialism a try for the next 15 years. That timespan is enough for a grade schooler to graduate in college through a government scholarship.

Merging two imperfect systems into another imperfect, yet superior system sounds good. Problem is, socialism, just like communism, is being avoided like a plague in the Philippines.

    Ka Enchong,

That is maybe because we usually associate socialism with the one that they have in Soviet Union. Socialism and communism are two entirely different economic systems. Only our pampered and irresponsible oligarchy are having paranoia with both.

All that is needed is a person or a party with good intentions and ideas and would not sell his or her soul or ideologies to the devil along his way to his dreams.

  81. cocoy cocoy

SOCIALISM is a government ownership, and government control everything is owned by the government, all means of production and distribution, all means of transportation, housing and everything else you can think of,including the people. By controlling all Life, Liberty and Property, the government sees people as capital, means of production items.Housing, clothing, medicine and medical care etc. are allocated to the healthy tax payers while unproductive people/ are disposed of as the opportunity arises and under whatever horrific terms suits

Lenin, Stalin, Mao, Castro, Pol Pot, just to name a few, practiced, as some of their ilk practice, this type of Socialism. As capitalism is not a political philosophy, it could be said, socialism is pure capitalism as human beings are nothing more than capital items. In practice, this is not as efficient as Fascism as the only incentive for anybody to do anything is profit, real or imagined. Just being allowed to exist and produce as a slave to the state is little incentive to be genuinely productive. That is why the Communist countries crumbled.

  82. cocoy cocoy

The word “Nazi” was an abbreviation for;Der Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiters Partei — in English translation: the National Socialist German Workers’ Party. Nazi Germany. Production existed in name only under the Nazis and that the actual substance of ownership of the means of production resided in the German government. For it was the German government and not the nominal private owners that exercised all of the substantive powers of ownership: it, not the nominal private owners, decided what was to be produced, in what quantity, by what methods, and to whom it was to be distributed, as well as what prices would be charged and what wages would be paid.

To establish socialism in our country requires a massive act of theft, that means the properties, factories and production must be seized from their owners and turned over to the state. Such seizure is virtually certain to provoke substantial resistance on the part of the owners, resistance which can be overcome only by use of massive force, killing that would be required,

  83. Sampot,

“Yes, Capitalism is undemocratic, and monopolistic.” I do believe it is very true only in 3rd world countries because capitalism is equated to corruption.

Not in the West which took hundreds of years to eventually finetune democracy wherein part and parcel of that expression of faith by the people is freewheeling capitalism.

  84. Even in a socialist (Labour) controlled country like the UK, capitalism is key in the nation’s democratic setting.

  85. ASIII ASIII

“Canada and other welfare states have been successful in their welfare system. Welfare System is a basic feature of a Socialist System”

The US is a welfare state also. Only rich countries can afford to be welfare states. Canada became a welfare state precisely because of capitalism.

But one thing ironic about welfare states is that only a few of its citizens avail of welfare benefits.

  86. norpil norpil

Capitalism and socialism in its primitive form are two extremes that i am not sure if there is a country practicing it. Democracy in a way have diluted their meaning for the betterment. In europe today one have christian democrats, as well as social democrats.Social democrats believe that important public services must be owned by the state and most services must be regulated for the good of the majority.Often they are the majority in what is called in general as the left.On the right side of the political spectrum are the conservatives which is mostly for private enterprise, i.e., less govt or regulations, the better. In the center are christian democrats and liberals. All of these have political parties participating in democratic elections. These parties have political platforms. In a country where private enterprise is the rule, the individuals must blame themselves if they are poor and hungry, otherwise they must beg on the streets.Private enterprise breeds greed and therefore must be regulated.

  87. ASIII says “one thing ironic about welfare states is that only a few of its citizens avail of welfare benefits”

In theUK anyone can walk into a hospital off the streets, no appointment and obtain FREE medical services, whether minor or major treatment, since 1947. No need for medical insurance purely a welfare system.

  88. WWNL,

Same in France. Even illegally staying Pinoys can avail of the hospital care and medical treatment they need. French taxpayers are in charge of footing the bill.

  89. Socialism and communism are two entirely different economic systems. Only our pampered and irresponsible oligarchy are having paranoia with both.

That’s true. The average Pinoy normally equates socialism with communism. The US had gotten over the McCarthyist witch hunts of the 50s, pero tayong kumokopya lang, mukhang may hangover pa.

Capitalism is good only if we have level playing fields. Our society was feudalistic. It still is. While the European society now thrives under a primarily capitalist economic system, it had its share of being purified through experimenting on a variety of ISMs.

Obviously, there is a need for us to undergo the same purification process such as that which Europe underwent.

Knowing that we don’t have a level playing field, some other systems must be experimented on. Be it a hybrid of several ISMs or one ISM in its pure form, we need to look for a way out before the social volcano erupts.

Albert Einstein’s definition of insanity, courtesy of newphilippines’ post, is worth pondering on.

  90. Capitalism and socialism in its primitive form are two extremes that i am not sure if there is a country practicing it.

  93. Tayrevo,

Indeed the two complement each other but you need a mature democratic setting to make it work, somewhere where the Social Contract is respected.

  94. AdeBrux,

In my analysis, Capitalism is only suitable for countries with very high literacy rate, where everyone is capable of making every vote count – i.e. rendering intelligent vote.

An illiterate vote defeats the purpose of democracy, because it will bring the whole system down by producing an illiterate leader assuming the illiterate majority’s vote is counted, or worse, when it’s not counted accurately, will produce a capitalists’ dummy like what we have now.

Democracy is based on a premise that if one is popular, he must be good, which is not always the case.

Unintelligent Voter => Unintelligent Vote => Unintelligent Leader => Unintelligent Economic Solutions => Poorer Majority => Can’t afford education => Unintelligent Voter…

Illiteracy Quicksand, that’s what it is. A big hand to the capitalists’ who have succeeded in reducing us to Professional Slaves with just enough pay to be able to come to work the next day.

The UK Labour Party betrayed the objective of the people it represents by transforming itself towards the right, and fully embracing the capitalist ideology in 80s and 90s onwards.

IF we can’t live without capitalism, then we must, at least, go back to the Fixed Exchange Rate System as implemented after WW2. But, will the capitalist allow that to happen?

    I don’t think so.

  95. Sampot,

Unfortunately, I’m strongly inclined to agree with you:

    “AdeBrux,

In my analysis, Capitalism is only suitable for countries with very high literacy rate, where everyone is capable of making every vote count – i.e. rendering intelligent vote.”

  96. In the Becker-Posner blog, http://www.becker-posner-blog.com/archives/2007/10/globalization I made a comment about Mr Posner’s view on Golbalization and Inequality that touched a bit on what you term “intelligent vote” even if obliquely.

Here’s what I said: Hillblogger 3: Richard Posner must look outside the American insular view of the world :

Clearly written by an American with a rather “insular” view of the world. I accept his ideas based on that premise, but I think we have to look wider than a national basis and consider how we are going to bring prosperity to the billions of poverty stricken in the world. This is the role of the UN and it may mean that the rich nations (G8/G15) have to give up some wealth.

Global wealth has increased. Considering marginal incomes in the US may work as everyone has access to education and there are jobs for almost all those prepared to work and there are equal opportunities to gain wealth if one is clever enough. Much of the world is not in the same situation. Billions of families live on less than 1000 dollars a year and the UN is rightly concerned with these people. It is not enough to say I am in my country and everything is fine – especially with the globalisation of the economy. That way lies the development of disgruntled people who resent the consumption of a minority of the inhabitants of the planet and, in the extreme, are people prepared to commit terrorist acts. This makes the income inequality more than regrettable, unfortunate, deplorable etc – it makes it dangerous.

I agree we are citizens of our nations. We are also citizens of the planet and on this planet there are finite resources of energy, minerals and food. As such we have to consider the wider picture when we consider our relations with the world. We can no longer be insular. Technology is helping and will help more – indeed it will become our saviour or I fear the numbers of humans on the planet is in for a drastic correction.

Education is also different in different countries. In the US the education level is high and I agree that there is little that can be improved and the marginal cost is probably too expensive. However let us look at a country where the literacy rate is 25% (e.g. Afghanistan). In this country how do we run an administration, a legal system, and form a government. No-one can read notices, no-one can fill in forms, no-one can do accounts, no-one can record a contract. Life is based on what you can say and what you can remember – Your Word is Your Bond. This is not a world with which the average US company can deal. The cultural difference between our trade practises, with their armies of legal advisers, and the practises of companies in such a company lead to huge difficulties. Of course more education is needed. Sadly over three quarters of the world is in desperate need of more education.

Mr Posner needs to look more widely and see what the UN sees. He needs to use some imagination and get outside the little island that sits in the middle of the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.

  97. Thanks for that very relevant article, AdeBrux.

Rate of Diminishing Creative Input, that’s where the present Industrial Sector are in today.

And usually, these are heirs to the throne of those already there.

Let’s consider a scenario where employee salaries are raised three-fold. What can possibly happen?

    1. Dramatic increase on one’s purchasing power.
    2. More money, more demand for consumer goods.
    3. Higher demand for goods requires more manufacturing facilities.
    4. More industries mean more employment.
    5. More employed citizens, more demand for consumer goods.
    6. Exponential demand for production, higher capitalists’ profits!

    In short, everybody happy. Right?

I wonder really what goes on in the minds of the Ruling Elite, educated as they are, by not seeing things this way.

In the final analysis, the strategy of making people dumb and dumber each day owing to low pay from the Ruling Elite, will backfire soon, because a hungry stomach will force a human being to cross that thin line that separates him from a wild beasts.

  98. The damage has already been done, for most poverty is even made worse because of Arroyo’s OFW program, of course her government are made to feel better with the extra Dollars but the truth is that for the majority of families that don’t have a member of their family abroad earning the Dollar are the majority of the population that are suffering the most.
The business elite rushed to install this evil woman into the highesat office of the land – and they are the last to admit that they were wrong even though in truth its hurting their export bank balance.

  99. Accept from Jolli Bee, where are all our export like shoes, furniture etc. etc. these exports don’t exist, so where are the thousands of workers from these industries now – they are out of work in poverty, thats where they are. This country is one that design and makes the best furniture and shoes in the world but we import junk products from china, how sad we’ve become.
This government endorses poverty, they are just like the Christmas Tale of Scrouge who wasn’t good to his workers because of being too busy counting the Dollars coming into the Treasury from OFW’s.

    WWNL:
When the price of foods goes up,it affects everyone especially when food is on limited supplies, price go up because demand is greater than the supply. We also consider the cost of production. That is the concept of the economy as a whole. These factors are analyzed with various economic indicators that tell us about the overall health of the economy. To participate in these so called economics, people, the consumers will be to find money, how much it will cost to buy goods and services in the market, or how much it may cost to borrow money. The Businesses analysis is to determine if expanding production will be welcomed by the market: will consumers have enough money to buy the products, or will the products sit on shelves and collect dust. Then here come the governments , creating taxes, deciding on interest rates and making policy decisions. Economics needs purchasing power which is the money. Monetary is regulated in Taff Avenue

When there is a need to increase cash in the economy, the central bank will buy government bonds, monetary expansion. These securities allow the central bank to inject the economy with an immediate supply of cash. In turn, interest rates, the cost to borrow money, will be reduced because the demand for the bonds will increase their price and therefore push the interest rate down. In theory, more people and businesses will then buy and invest. Demand for goods and services will rise and, as a result, output will increase. In order to cope with increased levels of production, unemployment levels should fall and wages should rise.On the other hand, when the central bank needs to absorb extra money in the economy, and push inflation levels down, it will sell its T-bills. This will result in higher interest rates less borrowing, less spending and investment and less demand, which will ultimately push down price level, inflation, but will also result in less real output.

  101. cocoy cocoy

    con’t;

The government can also increase taxes or lower government spending in order to conduct a fiscal contraction. What this will do is lower real output because less government spending means less disposable income for consumers. And, because more of consumers’ wages will go to taxes, demand as well as output will decrease.

A fiscal expansion by the government would mean that taxes are decreased or government spending is increased. Ether way the result would be a growth in real output because the government would stir demand with increased spending. In the mean time, a consumer with more disposable income, because of less taxes to pay, will be willing to buy more. A government will tend to use a combination of both monetary and fiscal options when setting policies that deal with the economy. These is the reason WWNL why our leader opt to import than to produce. It’s Gloria’s doctorate degree of economics with 13 units at Georgetown University.
