Minsan, nagreklamo ako sa sobrang higpit ng coverage sa court martial hearings, wala na kaming magawang matinong reporting.
Pina-alala ko sa isang opisyal na noong trial ni Gen. Carlos Garcia, ang opisyal na nag dispalko ng milyon, umabot pa yata ng bilyon, na pera ng military, pinayagan ang TV sa loob ng courtroom.
Sa court martial hearings ng 28 na opisyal na sangkot daw sa planong mag-withdraw ng support kay Gloria Arroyo noong Pebrero 2006, ang TV cameras ay pinapayagan lamang ilang minuto sa simula. Yun lang. Hindi kami pinapayagan maki-pagusap sa mga akusado kahit tapos na ang hearing.
Sabi sa akin ng opisyal, iba raw kasi ang kaso ni Garcia sa kasong nitong mga magigiting na opisyal. Ang kaso raw ngayon nina Maj. Gen. Renato Miranda, Brig. Gen. Danny at 26 pa na ibang opisyal ay maaring “mag-destabilize” ng pamahalaan ni Arroyo.
Kapag sinabi nating destabilize, ibig sabihin noon nakaka-hina at baka mawalang ng balanse. Kapag walang balanse ay baka matumba.
Sabi ko sa opisyal, alam mo ba ang nakaka-destabilize? Ang kawalan ng hustisya. Ang tao, kung walang makain, magtitiis yan. Ngunit kung lapastanganin mo siya, lalaban yun.Sang-ayon naman siya doon.
Kaya sa pagpigil sa amin na ipakita ang buong nangyayari sa court martial hearings, parang ina-amin na rin ng military na hindi umiiral ang hustisya sa paglilitis sa 28 kaya “destabilizing” ipakita sa taumbayan.
Naala-ala ko itong pag-uusap namin ng opisyal sa Tanay (isa siya sa matinong opisyal na natira sa military) dahil ngayon sinasabi ni Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro at AFP Chief of Staff Hermogenes Esperon na meron raw panibagong kudeta na binubuo ng mga kalaban ni Arroyo. Plano raw isagawa sa itong mga susunod na buwan.
Sa kasaysayan kasi ng Pilipinas unang dalawang buwan ng taon nangyari ang pagpapatalsik ng nakaupong pangulo. Pebrero 1986 ang People Power I na nagpatumba kay Marcos at Enero 2001 naman ang pagpatalsik kay Estrada.
Hindi masyadong kinakagat ng mga tiga-oposisyon ang pahayag nina Teodoro at Esperon. Sabi nga ni Sen. Aquilino Pimentel, sinasabi lang yan ni Esperon para i-extend siya. Sa Pebrero 7 kasi naman retired na si Esperon. Siyempre kapag pakiramdam ni Arroyo, tagilid siya, malamang i-extend niya si Esperon.
Kay Esperon kasi sigurado si Arroyo na pilitin talagang manatili siya sa kapangyarihan, wala silang pai-alam kung mamatay na ang lahat na Pilipino at masira ang bayan. Ang mahalaga sa kanila, sila ang nasa kapangyarihan.
Sabi ni Sen. Panfilo Lacson, mabuti yun kung i-extend si Esperon kasi lalong magkaroon ng destabilization.
Tama. Balik tayo doon sa pag-uusap ko sa opisyal sa Tanay. Ang kawalang hustisya ang sanhi ng destabilization. Sa partnership na Arroyo at Esperon, ang tindi ng kawalang hustisya. Titindi rin ang destabilization.
esperon-gma’s insecurity is paranoid. a february destabilization movement has a chilling sting of edsa revolt, but this unfounded fear is self-serving for esperon and gma who is scared of her own shadow will most likely to accept the extension of esperon.
ellen, you’re right that injustices breed destabilization. destabilization movements cannot be curtailed by the imprisonment of Trillanes et al, without addressing the basic problem of corruption and social injustice.

The tour of duty of the Chief of Staff of the armed forces shall not exceed three years. However, in times of war or other national emergency declared by the Congress, the President may extend such tour of duty. (Section 7, Art. XVI)
Tanging ang Kongreso lang ang makakapagpasiya na lumunsad ng giyera, at tanging ang Kongreso lang ang makakapagpahayag ng malubhang kagipitang sa buong bansa. Ang pagpapahiwatig na galing sa pangulo ay hindi basehan ng pagpatuloy ng serbisyo ni Esperon matapos ang kanyang pag-retiro.
Pinagbabawal din ng Saligang Batas na gumawa ng batas na pinahihintulutan ang mga opisyal ng militar na maglingkod matapos abutin ang gulang ng kanilang pag-retiro, sa sumusunod:
Laws on retirement of military officers shall not allow extension of their service. (Section 5, Art XVI)
Samakatuwid, kung ibig ipagpatuloy ang paglilingkod ni Esperon kay Gloria, este sa sambayanan pala, kailangan ang pagpapahayag ay manggagaling sa Kongreso (ang dalawang Kamara – House at Senado). Walang bisa ang pahayag mula sa pangulo.
Kung ipagpapatuloy ang serbisyo ni Esperon nang walang pahayag ng Kongreso, isa na namang paglabag yan sa Saligang Batas.

Its being said that talks of a new destabilization plot being floated by the military and the police and dnd (all three at the same time!) will fulfill itself once the term of Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff Gen. Hermogenes Esperon Jr. is extended which would cause a domino-effect in demoralizing the AFP.
They say that the military follows a tradition (on rank promotion). Breaking that tradition they say will risk hell breaking loose. Esperon extension would have not only junior officers protesting but a lot of senior officers who will be hurting. They say that if you don’t follow tradition, the military may not follow your orders too.
My question is that IF everyone feels that Malaca are cooking up their own coup just to keep her in power then why are we, the people, not striking the first blow to preserve the peoples Constitution but sitting on our hands looking on doing nothing.
Get this evil woman out of harms way before she does more and more untold damage to everyone, just for her own survival. Let’s face it she wont go without the help of a straitjacket, if you think differently your dreaming and already in her Enchanted Kingdom. He he he.

I agree with ace, the correct move has to be made with a lot of thought – ‘surprise’ and the first one to move may be the key for success.
If she extends Esperon’s term you can expect the next step to be a declaration of martial law if she’s given the chance – if the people fail to recognise this and react swiftly it will be game-set-and-match. If the people sit back and allow the declaration of martial law so-be-it.
The cards have been there for all to see, she has painted herself into a corner. Once she fails to have power she is made to face the population with her own manufactured problems that are against the citizen.
The only avenue left open to her is to declare martial law.
Our info is that Arroyo will not extend Esperon. A number of her advisers (cabinet members) have warned her of the intensification of the restiveness in the military if Esperon’s term is extended.
I understand your info Ellen and have no problem with that. But I wonder how will she get out of the corner she has painted herself into. It will take more than a Economic Masters to do that one he he he.

The second, or is it third, front. Has Dr. Lorna Esperon, wife of Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff Gen. Hermogenes Esperon Jr., opened a new war front? Some members of the media have gotten this impression, and for good reason. At the V. Luna Medical Center on Dec. 19, a combative Dr. Esperon confronted a journalist, demanding that he “produce” his colleague, Inquirer defense reporter Nikko Dizon.
The general’s wife was apparently irked that Dizon had sought the chief of staff’s reaction to a report that Mrs. Esperon herself had been telling her “amigas” [female friends] that her husband’s term would be extended come February. Esperon is due to retire next month.
The fireworks at the hospital were not the first that took place in front of the Defense Press Corps (DPC). At the opening night of the Mutiny Bar owned by ex-Magdalo officers a few months back, the feisty “First Lady” of the AFP also went hunting for another journalist, who had made the mistake of writing about the controversial incident where the doctor “bawled out” a priest who did not give “special mention” to soldiers ambushed in Basilan province in his Sunday Mass homily.
At the cocktails following the AFP Founding Day on Dec. 21, Dr. Esperon faced the DPC again, with Dizon among the reporters. She answered all questions, and even assailed two colonels’ wives she said were responsible for her negative image in the media.
She may have not realized it, but her verbal assault proved that, one, she had waged war against the media, and two, she had a running feud with (or against) other military wives. F. Zamora

At the generals’ traditional New Year’s Call held Friday in the Camp Aguinaldo general headquarters of the AFP, reporters caught up with the General Esperon for an interview.
The New Year’s Call is a formal social event attended by more than a hundred military generals where they pay a courtesy call on the AFP chief of staff and the secretary of defense. The generals’ wives are also in attendance.
Given that the last time defense reporters spoke to the military chief was at the celebration of the AFP’s 72nd founding anniversary two weeks ago, the reporters had quite a lengthy interview with General Esperon.
New issues and old ones were brought up. The interview was already winding down when one reporter threw one more question at the chief of staff.

AFP’s political generals should learn a lesson from the Vietnam War. Military solution alone is not effective to defeat the insurgents. How he can defeat mobile NPA guerilla partisans without a fixed territory to defend? The Huk peasant rebellion in Central Luzon provinces was subdued but not completely eliminated. Looking back in our history it shows that rebellions can be suppressed but rarely eliminated for long.

I think Esperon is preempting GMA and is subliminally trying to get the message across that he needs to be extended. This would upped the ante to his own advantage, if GMA does not extend his term, for sure GMA will promise him something big or even bigger than what he is getting now (a price for someone who knows a lot), if Esperon will be silent and just wait for his retirement, GMA might presume that he is not interested anymore and may just be given a ” token of her appreciation”.
On the other hand, this could be a scripted thing and Esperon is just conditioning the minds of the people. He will be extended because there is a “big plan” that GMA cannot entrust to anyone but Esperon.

I was amused reading comments of trying to place PGMA OUTSIDE the “box” when the most appropriate move is to place her PERMANENTLY in a “box”.
Well, that path will not solve the endemic problem of corruption. The problem is systemic. However, nobody dares to change this system. We are trained to think that destroying this system will kill us all. Not even the Magdalo –true to its origin.
