Disputing government lies

Army Capt. Ruben Guinolbay, who is detained in Camp Capinpin in connection with the alleged plan to withdraw support from Gloria Arroyo in February 2006, sent us a note to dispute what he said were the lies that the government is peddling against his “men” who were arrested last week and charged for allegedly planning to stage a coup.

The soldiers are former Army Rangers Sgt. Orlando Valencia, Corporals Ramon Perania, Redantel Maranan, and Walter Francisco. They once belonged to the Third Scout Rangers battalion that Guinolbay commanded.

A civilian driver, Kim Agas, who was mistaken as a former soldier, was also dragged in.

Another Scout Ranger still in active service, Sgt. Jaime Dumagpi, was reportedly arrested too but up to now, his lawyer Argee Guevarra or any of his relatives have not been allowed access to him.

We followed up the information provided to us by Guinolbay with other sources and we were able to reconstruct the events that AFP chief Hermogenes Esperon tried to peddle to the public as “discovery of caches or some plans to transport or pre-position some firearms.” His boss, Gloria Arroyo, however belittles his coup scenario, calling it self-indulgent political theatrics.”

Monday, Jan. 14, Dumagpi, driver of Gen. Jess Dellosa, was taken into custody by agents of ISAFP (Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines).

Dumagpi was formerly a driver of Scout Rangers Capt. Montano Almodovar, who is also now detained at Camp Capinpin in connection with the alleged plan to withdraw support from Gloria Arroyo in February 2006.

Tuesday, Jan. 15, Sgt. Valencia and his friend, Kim Agas, passed by the boarding house of Cpl. Redante Maranan on N. Ramirez st. in Galas, Quezon City, where Cpl. Perania was temporarily staying to turn over money for his wife, Mercy, who are neighbors of the Peranias in Camp Tecson, Bulacan.

The money, something like P1,200, came from his last pay from the AFP which he had just collected. Valencia, Perania and Francisco were three of the five enlisted men who were discharged “without honor” by Army chief Alexander Yano last Christmas Day.

They were part of the 40 enlisted personnel who were detained for almost two years without charges in Camp Capinpin and discharged dishonorably.

Valencia and Perania had just been employed as bodyguards by a businessman. Maranan was also a former Scout Ranger.

Esperon said one proof that the five are part of a coup plot was they were renting a “safe house” for P15,000 a month. Where are they getting that much money, he asked?

Atty. Trixie Angeles, counsel of five, said the room rent of the five does not amount to P15,000. “They are just renting a room, not the whole house,” she said.

While Valencia and Agas were at the boarding house, 1st lt. Magtanggol Panopio (PMA ’00) of MIG 17 (Military Intelligence Group) arrived in the morning and “manhandled them.” “No firearms was taken from them,” Guinolbay stressed.

Angeles said when the former Rangers told Panopio their military background, he kicked and hit them. Seeing this, Agas said he was from the “Marines” when actually he was never in the military service.

After Panopio had done his thing with the five, he turned them over to Supt. Michel Filart of the PNP CIDG (Criminal Investigation and Detection Group) who in the first place should have been the one who made the arrest because the five are civilians. The government’s press release said that it was Filart who made the arrest. It’s a lie.

The five were charged with “illegal possession of firearms.” What happened to the story of Esperon that they were part of a coup plot? But even with “illegal possession of firearms,” Valencia and Perania were released for “no probable cause.”

Angeles is worried because Valencia was warned by a sympathetic ISAFP member that they are determined to get him. “‘Itutumba’ was the term used,” she said.

In the information provided to us by Guinolbay, he said Lt. Panopio was a student in his Scout Rangers training course, where Valencia was assistant instructor. He said Panopio “failed the course for lying.”

There were more background information that Guinolbay gave us about Panopio but we are withholding them until we get his side.

Esperon’s coup plot by five former enlisted men with three firearms has elicited several funny comments posted in my blog (www.ellentordesillas.com). Like this one by Juggernaut: “Imagine, staging a coup, 5 guys shooting it out with 3 rifles – ano manghiram na lang yung dalawa? Bang, bang, bang! Bok ako naman! bang, bang, ikaw naman pare! Bang, bang!

  1. We laugh in order not to cry.

I can’t, Ellen. It’s just too gruesome, deplorable and unfair to be laughed about even figuratively.

Over here, we see some injustice, too, but unlike in the Philippines, there are ways and means to seek for justice to prevail, and yes, even revenge. I guess it is in the culture. There is still what they call “kataki” even by Divine intervention that can lead even to self-destruction that I have come to see as a good way of eliminating the scums of the earth.

Frankly, something must be done with the justice system in the Philippines. They can start with the cleaning up of the DOJ. By all means, they should get rid of the still to be confirmed idiot appointed there by the criminal squatting at the palace by the murky river.

They should have a strong federation of bar associations there likewise that should be subsidized by the government to provide welfare and assistance to the needy, especially those being framed up and being made criminals for love of country and people, not love of Gloria Dorobo, like these gallant soldiers now in detention.

    Kawawang Pilipinas!

    Grizzy,

RE: Frankly, something must be done with the justice system in the Philippines.

NOT Now, kasi nga wala tayong aasahan!

Kaya pala ang latest na sabi niya, “The coup financiers are dwindling”. Wahahaha!

  4. atty36252 atty36252

Limang tao, tatlong baril na kinakalawang, 30 rounds of ammo, later amended to 100 rounds, iyan daw ang may “financier”.

For as long sa Death of Justice Secretary is around..siraulo man o ano…there is no hope for true justice in the Phil..kahit anong tino at talino ng mga court justices…from the lower courts to the supreme courts ..there will never be justice to be given…Only God can give us justice. baka ang sinasabi nila na justice ay just-ice..hindi lang malamig yelo..

  6. rose rose

    Today 1/20/08
    Esperon’s term ends: 2/9/08
    Days till then: 20
My prayer: Dear God it is only through your intervention that the Phil. will find peace. Our Lady of Lourdes, please pray for us. Thank you.

—-Tarantado itong si 1st Lt. Panopio. Ano siya ni Fred Panopio? First Lt. lang ganoon na ang inasal. Ano pa kaya kung maging Colonel o General iyan balang araw?

  9. Ellen,

Aren’t these military shits in active service supposed to be fighting the real “enemy”, i.e., Abu Sayyaff and MILF/MNLF hooligans, instead of manhandling the discharged soldiers?

Why can’t they show their courage in the battlefield instead of frigging about with their comrades in arms (even if ex-comrades)? What did they think they would be gaining by beating up former enlisted men? Did they think they would grow in stature by doing that? Gain Honour? Conferred a badge of courage by Esperon perhaps?

There is NO courage in beating up former enlisted men who had probably done more and seen more combats than this Lt Panopio frigging shit of a military officer would ever see in his fucking lifetime!

1st lt. Magtanggol Panopio (PMA ’00) should be given a leasson before it’s too late. But I doubt he is redeemable. He should be kicked in the balls and thrown to the sharks before he becomes another Boygee Pangilinan!

These young PMA graduates are living and growing up under the combined Gloria-Esperon era of military gangsterism; they are not the kind of officers the military needs if the AFP wants to professionalize.

    “The coup financiers are dwindling”.-esperon

If we try to analyze esperon’s statement, it reveals the kind of man who said it: gagalaw lang kung merong pera. yan si esperon, mukhang pera.

  11. Zardux Zardux

    Anna,

“Why can’t they show their courage in the battlefield instead of frigging about with their comrades in arms (even if ex-comrades)?”

Shit! He’s hoping to be CGPA siguro soon.

  14. Si Panopio pareho ng ugali ni Boygee noong 1stLt pa lang itong si kolokoy… kaya sabi ko dapat ipagkain na sa sharks before he gets promoted to replace Boygee!

  18. rose rose

may nagsabi na si Gloria daw ay under the control of the military..I guess ni Esperon..ang ibig sabihin ba nito si Esperon ay hindi under the falda ni Gloria, or could it mean si Gloria under the pantalon ni Esperon o kaya hawak ni Esperon sa kanyang bulsa? saan naman kaya kumakapit si
    Gloria?

  19. Because audit is not really audit in the real sense of the word, most guys in the intel service just put blank papers in the envelope (supposed to contain the justification for the expense) and sealed top secret or some drivel so the auditors cannot open the envelope — pasok ang “expenses” — so perang malaki!

  20. rose rose

  21. Zardux Zardux

    TT,

thanks. nagpost ako sa Mapayapang protesta.

    Anna,

“Because audit is not really audit in the real sense of the word”

  22. Zardux Zardux

    Ellen,

“There was more background information that Guinolbay gave us about Panopio but we are withholding them until we get his side.”

    Lets continue disputing government lies.

It sounds familiar to me. Napag-uusapan din lang ang ISAFP, I wonder where and what’s going on with Simon Ong.

  26. Brownberry Brownberry

Now it can be told…this is a follow up of what Rose mentioned in another thread. Pasaway pala itong si late Cardinal Sin. He should have learned to be obedient to the church hierarchy. Now let’s turn to GMA who claimed to have the permission of the Pope to unseat Erap. Obviously, GMA and Sin conspired!

Sin opposed Vatican order, pushed Edsa II

Cardinal threatened to quit as archbishop

MANILA, Philippines — In a move that might have altered the course of the Edsa II “people power” revolt, the Vatican had told the late Jaime Cardinal Sin that it did not want the Roman Catholic Church in the Philippines to get involved in the upheaval.

The “order from Rome” was received by the late Manila archbishop on Jan. 18, 2001 — or two days before Joseph Estrada quit Malacañang and then Vice President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo was sworn in as the new President, a highly-placed source privy to the little-known sidelight to the four-day uprising told the Philippine Daily Inquirer at the weekend.

Sin, who was about to repeat the crucial role he played in the historic 1986 “People Power” Revolution, was told to “withdraw the Catholic Church’s participation” in the anti-Estrada uprising triggered by Estrada’s aborted impeachment trial at the Senate for plunder.

  27. rose rose

BB: I was shocked when I read this. I know that in matters of faith and dogma the pope is infallible yon ang turo..and this does not fall into that category. BUT the prince of the church should follow the hierarchy just as in the military there is the command responsibility. I studied at Sagrado Corzaon de Jesus in Iloilo City in my early years and was an intern kasama ng mga kapatid niya..as a matter of fact the youngest of them was my classmate and the older one was my teacher..He was at that time Arch. of Jaro..I had a high regard of him. When there are people like him in the church I certainly do not blame the many who have left and are leaving the catholic church.
..Another thing that shocked me in this article is the mention of Art Panganiban as the negotiator..Art was three years senior of me in College..He was in FEU while I was in UE..I used to attend NUS which he founded after Conda and after our college days we met again as members of the PHIMICA. Now I understand why he became a Supreme Court
Justice..Kung sa bagay wala na siya ngayon “the days of injustice” but still he had a hand in how Arroyo got in power..hindi ba ng cut siya ng Bible at nabasa na si gory ang dapat maging pangulo..Kung sa bagay ang sabi ng Grand Old Man Manuel Quezon..he would rather have a gov’t run like hell by Filipinos..well “what have we got? I owe my soul to the company store” hindi ba kanta yon.

  28. All thats done is done. What remains is to manage the present situation and brace ourselves for an uncertain future. Cardinal Sin, for all his idiosyncracies served his purpose in his life, he had his share of good and bad deeds, we will have to leave the summation to God. However, we who are still living have to forge ahead, hopefully, lets not allow the faults of past and present leaders of the church dampen our faith, for in the long term, its still a personal relationship with God.

It sounds familiar to me.”
    ===================
Edmund Arugay is still one of the deputy directors of the NBI but also holds a position in the anti-smuggling task force GMA created to check on the smuggling activities of Vicky Toh. From what I heard, he’s the ISAFP Arugay’s brother. They both hail from Tugeugarao.

More info. Panopio actually did more than just lie. Even during training he already showed a propensity for unecessary cruelty. Cpl. Perania was no ordinary enlisted man. Because of his exceptional ability, he became assistant instructor in the Scout Ranger training course and Panopio was his and Capt. Guinolbay’s student.

  31. klingon klingon

During the press conference in Campt Aguinaldo after Cpl. Perania was released, he stressed that they had no guns, and none of the men had any guns in their possession. He said, “Kung may mga baril kami, hindi makakalapit yung mga nag-aresto sa amin.” Tama nga naman. These men were trained by the best. Pinalaki itong mga ito ni Gen. Lim at ni Capt. Guinolbay.

  32. Come to think of it, Rose, but when we pray for Divine intervention, we actually pray for those natural calamities that more often than not affect only the lowly especially in the Philippines unless they experience similar calamities like those they have experienced in the US as the destruction of New Orleans by that terrible Hurricane Katrina.

God also in fact sends inspiration to men of courage like General Lim, Trillanes, Querubin, et al. Through them, in fact, we see more clearly the evil deeds of these abusive crooks, and as long as they are alive, we can draw inspiration and courage from them to fight.

Sabi nga ni FPJ, and it was I guess the message of his “Alay” to his people, “Pag-asa na lang ang meron sila.” It’s what we should encourage folks back home to continue to cling on.

Holy Cow!

  33. The true insurgents are not in the hills. They are in Malacanang, in the congress and senate and in the offices of the AFP and PNP. The real soldiers should run after these scoundrels who continue to break our laws and make a mockery of our constitution.

  34. Brownberry Brownberry

Rose, sad to say, the Catholic Church is one church that doesn’t have that true obedience and unity that other groups have. Kontra dito, kontra doon…sila-sila nag-aaway. Huwag na tayong lumayo…sa Pilipinas na lang we could see the division within the church. Other churches submit to their leaders; hence, they are more organized and the members are more well taken care of. He acted like a dictator within the church in the Philippines; tapos si Marcos tatawagin niyang diktador. Under the church doctrine, that was a grave sin. He would have redeemed himself had he only confessed what he did at Edsa Dos. As usual, the church consistent with her cover ups kept this matter from us for years.

Juggernaut, it’s easy to say what is done is done. If we follow your argument, we can say what was done by GMA is done. Now that Sin is laid to rest (if he really is resting), the church is accountable for the evil it has done to Erap, the Filipino people, the nation. Many don’t know but it was Sin who actually led and orchestrated the whole Edsa Dos. He ordered the unwilling Cory to go to Edsa. He ordered Davide to administer oath to GMA. He ordered the priests, nuns, seminarians, Catholic students to go to Edsa.
Look at what he has done by helping GMA get into Malacanang. While he’s now in his grave, the people continue to suffer for what he has done. Ngayon, masasabi niyo ba na what is done is done?

  35. rose rose

tama ka jug..past tense na yon and we are in the present tense..so let’s move ahead…
grizzy: the divine intervention that I am praying for is a change of heart at sana kahit maliit pa sa mustard seed ang kanyang conscience it will prick her to death in other words kulitin at kulitin siya, katihin at katihin siya or kaya sa kagalakan niya at sa tuwa niya it will tickle her to death..at magbago ang takbo ng buhay niya…pero bakit no hear sa asawa?
..incidentally, what does ISAFP mean? Internal Security of the Armed Forces of the Phil? or is it Intelligent Security? kasi wala akong nakikitang inteligency pero ang internal security for Gory is very tight!

  36. I don’t believe the fallacy that they cannot do anything to remove the crooks kung magtatrabaho ng tama ang mga binoto ng mga pilipino, at kinilatis nila ang mga ibinoboto nila. Frankly, none of the congressmen of the crusading parties like Gabriela, Bayan, etc. (sabihin na nilang leftist or whatever) are accepting any pork barrel for their pockets.

And of course, our very own favorite, Trillanes. Look at how they now try to suppress his right to serve his country and people as a Senator. Sa amin iyan, when they allowed him to run, he would definitely be allowed to serve.

And we do appreciate the efforts of crusading journalists like Ellen, Ka Mentong, Lito Banayo, et al. Besides, bakit kailangan pa naming ipaglandakan kung sino at ano ang ginagawa namin para makatulong sa mga naaapi?

  37. Rose,

Change of heart? Mukhang malabo.

Sa totoo lang, I’m not impressed at the priest who reported on the bribe given him.

I would go for change of religion. Baka pa. But in most cases, it seems God allows the faithful to leave their home lands where they cannot grow to be loyal, faithful and obedient to Him as I believe must have been true to you or me. Mas kailangan tayo where we are, I guess.

  39. Frankly speaking, maski dito sa Japan, ang impression sa Philippines, bansa ng mga kurakot where the presidents are conceived to be robbers and thieves.

Change of heart daw si Roxas (never trusted this guy as a matter of fact).

I’ll give you info pag nakakuha ako on this.

“the church is accountable for the evil it has done to Erap, the Filipino people, the nation.”

  44. invictus invictus

Kawawa naman yung mga EP na yan. I was with them inside the detention center for several times with their families. I know they have always worked with honor for this country.

  45. bb,
We cannot do anything about the past, no one can change history. My point is to focus on the present, what can we do to help? Its noble to talk about big achievements like kicking GMA out, but for me its nobler still to be able to do something no matter how little, just do something to help.

  46. Its easy to say so many things, but can we put our money where our mouth is?

  47. Spot on Jug: “Its easy to say so many things, but can we put our money where our mouth is?”

  48. Personally, I really believe that we should handle the situation with cooler heads and try not to point fingers at each other or our institutions. Institutions like the catholic church is not the monopoly of Cardinal Sin or look-alikes, and neither is PMA. If we lose faith in our institutions and alienate others equally innocent as we are we will only be succumbing to the “divide and conquer” strategy of the present administration. They have already succeeded in sowing divisions in our opposition and are probably high fiving each other about it, but we should know better. Cardinal Sin remorsefully asked forgiveness from Estrada before he died, Erap forgave him, why can’t we? Let us forgive those who saw the folly of earlier times and embrace them as brothers and sisters who are one with us in our cause. Someone once told me that we can never be free unless we learn to forgive. Gloria? She has never been remorseful and has no apparent plans of correcting her mistakes, so its different story with her.

  49. Brownberry Brownberry

We’re not pointing fingers but who do you want to point for the wrong done to Erap and Edsa Dos? Past is past, easier said than done. As I pointed out, if we follow your premise, then we might as well forget GMA’s many lies and cheating. It’s easy for people to say to protect the institution just like the apologists in the Congress and Senate. When they screw up and confronted with their wrongdoings, they use the institution as an excuse. Payag ba kayo? Lest that I be accused of singling out the Catholic Church, I can say the same thing to other religious groups. Let’s stop hiding from so called “institution”. The Pope and Priest’s being infallible is a fallacy. Even after Sin’s death, we still have his protege Soc Villegas who is still have to answer for his participation in the Garci tape cover up. Same is true with Cardinal Rosales. It’s high time we don’t allow these Servants of God to hide from their spiritual immunity. They need to be unmasked. And this needs the effort and cooperation of Catholics and non-Catholics alike.

  50. bb,
Agree with you there. Biblically, divisions are caused by people following different leaders and not the word. I know you will agree with me if I say we focus on the issues at hand and if some leaders say otherwise (or seek to mislead us) its an unmasking so to speak. I admire your passion for change, and your desire to hold responsible those who are respomsible, but don’t let it blind you to the task at hand, we need to gather people to our cause, we need to build our numbers, and alienating anyone needlessly will not help.
As long as the opposition is viewed as the salivating, violent, angry, homicidal mob stereotypical of street rallyists, the majority will opt to take the lesser and known evil which is conformity. What alternative are we giving them? We have to look for another formula and we can only do it together.

  51. Brownberry Brownberry

Jug, let me say that I like your comments and ideas. That makes this blog healthy. I’m sure Sin’s colleagues in the church hierarchy knew about the Vatican letter. Why didn’t they say anything? Iyan ang hirap sa kanila…they keep covering one another’s ass.

  52. Valdemar Valdemar

Theres nothing to it really and its SOP in many armies that a platoon or so has only a few long arms and the rest wait for the firer incapacitated and take over. That goes true with the Abus, the NPAs and even our PNPs. Their firearms are maximized in utilizationS. Some are PNPs and soldiers when on duty, Abus (MILF), NPAs by night.

  53. bb,
I understand, some of my earlier posts I regret posting because I did so because of anger (some words I should not have posted) good thing no one here is that judgmental. You are passionate, there’s nothing wrong with that, in fact its a strength. The key to real friendships is that you accept each others’ uniqueness, I ask you to forgive my imperfections.

  54. I was also worried about the Vatican letter, it only reinforces the call for caution in following leaders, to know where they are leading us. Unlike some people I know who blindly follow orders forsaking friends and family alike.

  55. invictus invictus

To BB, Juggernaut, Valdemar, Anne and the rest of the people of Ellenville, you are one bunch of sincere Filipinos, who have more wisdom than those people running this country with the way you express your thoughts and feelings. More power to all of you. It makes me see things clearer than just to cry foul against this administration even if it means sacrificing the head of our family. Not an easy thing to do but you made us families of the detained soldiers feel stronger, as we take it one day at a time.
About the Church protecting its heirarchy, it is but normal. I was with the Church and military beats before. They have something in common, they will protect whoever is in power. I have written so many stories of married priests and so many of their scandals. Of their sons and daughters kept from the eyes of the public. Yes, they will also kill to keep a secret and the same thing goes to any other situation such as the Vatican letter, so as not to rock the boat. But again, I agree, let us keep our heads cool and focus on the real issues at hand.
    Kudos!

“Hindi na kailangang mag-deny ni Ellen o Ces dahil alam (nila) sa kaibuturan ng kanilang puso na hindi (sila) yun (Ellen and Ces need not deny because they know in their hearts that they were not the ones I’m referring to).” – National Police chief Director General Avelino Razon Jr. GMANews.TV as of 11:35 a.m.

  57. balweg balweg

    Hi Ka Ace,

I could understand how he feels now.

I guess there is no need to dispute the government lies. Gloria Esperon Razon keep disputing themselves anyway.

  60. john_grisham john_grisham

I agree with you Sulbatz but i sincerely believe that 1Lt. Panopio should be exposed for who he is. and not only that, to tell the world how this Mr. Esperon is doing his best to get extended. ilang tulong na lang…pantay na pantay na tayo, mr. esperon….hehehehehe, we can’t wait…

  61. john_grisham john_grisham

sori, ilang tulog na lang and not tulong….

  62. john_grisham john_grisham

ate ellen, i can’t wait for your expose on the arrest of the five ex-rangers. They deserve justice. go, go, go, ate. we are all behind you.

  63. Is he related to Fred Panopio? 🙂

“Fugitive Marine Captain Nicanor Faeldon and his other supporters had been communicating with troops” – Major General Fernando Mesa, commanding general of the National Capital Region command (Inquirer News as of 3:23 p.m.)

If this is true, then at least he is alive and not being tortured, of course its a big IF.

  65. balweg balweg

I second the motion!

At ang Masang Pinoy eh susubaybay at handang sumuporta sa inyong ipinaglalaban alang-alang sa kinabukasan ng bayan against corrupt leaders in our gov’t and military institutions.

  66. balweg balweg

So, ibig sabihin eh walang ngipin ang Art.

  68. balweg,
What if yung mali ay sobrang bigat na, na pag dinala sa liwanag ay halos kalahati na lang sa ating mga opisyal ang lalabas na malinis? Kaya ba nating harapin to?

  69. SULBATZ SULBATZ

Hahaha

Ulol talaga to si Razon.

  70. What I’m realy worried about right now are the families of those who are incarcerated. How are they coping?

  71. sulbatz,
For sure sa kahihintay ni Esperon ng extension niya, naalala niya ang “How Long is Eternity?” di kaya “What Time is It?”

  72. balweg balweg

I remember tuloy kung papaano ako nakiisa sa pagkampanya kay Senator AT4 thru cyber campaign during last 2004 election.

I’m proud of them, kasi nga my father was a WWII veteran with the same loyalty to our constitution and loved for our country.

Mabuhay kayong lahat at pagpalain ng Panginoong Dios today and forever!

  74. Valdemar Valdemar

The church called out for people to help out in their interest at EDSA I. The religious that stopped the advance of soldiers with flowers turned into looters overnight. Who drew the first blood? At Edsa 2-3, who drew the first blood?

  75. balweg balweg

    Ka Juggernaut,

RE: What I’m realy worried about right now are the families of those who are incarcerated. How are they coping?

This is our part to help them sapagka’t isinugal nila ang kanilang trabaho para sa Bayan at Mamamayang Pinoy.

  76. Valdemar Valdemar

At the Oakwood and Manila Penn, who fired the first shots?

Walang ititira.

  79. Brownberry Brownberry

Jug, Invictus, Balweg at sa lahat na nagmamahal sa bayan natin, let us not allow difference of opinion affect our united stand against this GMA government.

Ace, funny but PNP and Gen. Razon now shift gear saying reporters don’t need to deny if they believe they are not the ones. It shows they have no evidence to present. How many times have they done this in the past and keep doing this to fool the people?

Today, Ellen attended the Press Conference of Write of Ampara to be filed with SC. There are reportedly 11 journalists who signed the petition but Ellen was not one of them. When she was asked by Ces Drilon and the ABS-CBN lawyer why Ellen doesn’t join the petition, Ellen replied she would think it over. My question is, has Ellen decided to join the 11 journalists? I know Ellen is tired and stressed; but if she’s around here, please share with us your decision and thought. Thanks and God bless you, Ellen.

  80. balweg balweg

    Ka BB,

Tuloy ang laban! The door is open very widely sa lahat ng kapwa nating Pinoy who wanted to change our darkest political atmosphere and change by new blood of patriot Pinoyz and idealistic AFP/PNP.

This blog is our ladder to reach the highest point of awareness and understanding to know the truth of Arroyo regime.

  81. balweg balweg

  83. Jug, who is Fred Panopio?

  84. Brownberry Brownberry

Fred Panopio is or was a Pinoy singer. He was popular during the time of FPJ, Erap, and the old timers…singing Pinoy style Cowboy music such as “Pitong Gatang”. If my memory is correct, I think he’s the one.

  85. In despair In despair

    Juggernaut,
With regards to your query about the families of the incarcerated officers, I suggest that we could help them by Adopting a Scholar.

Maybe we could choose one child of an officer and pay for the education – partial or full scholarship; or maybe give a monthly stipend of say $20 or $50 a month.

That would be a big help.

  86. Brownberry Brownberry

Here’s a portion of the headline at The Tribune which confirms an earlier news report by the Inquirer regarding Cardinal Sin’s disobeying Vatican’s order:

Sin and his bishops ignored the Vatican order and actively mounted a coup d’etat against Estrada, along with then Vice President Gloria Arroyo, the military generals and even Supreme Court justices.

It will be recalled that both Panganiban and then SC Chief Justice Hilario Davide were aware of the fact that Estrada had not resigned and was still in Malacañang, but Davide went on to swear in Mrs. Arroyo as president, despite the fact that there was no vacancy in the high office.

“I am now being vindicated,” he told the Tribune. “The truth is now coming out.”

He added that the Edsa ll crowd was made up of students from the Catholic schools who were ordered by Sin to come to Edsa and provide the warm bodies.

“That was not a popular uprising. That was not the voice of the Filipino people. That was a coup d’etat against me and my government,” he said.

  87. Brownberry Brownberry

What does the above revelation tell us about Edsa Two compared to Edsa One? Didn’t the late Cardinal Sin apply the same strategy to oust Marcos? Through Radio Veritas, he called on all the Catholic students from all the Catholic schools in Metro Manila to gather at Edsa. Maybe the only difference is that while Vatican disapproved Erap’s ouster even ordering Cardinal Sin not to do it, Vatican could have agreed to oust Marcos or at the very least allowed the church to work in removing Marcos.

  88. In despair In despair

Maybe we can communicate directly to the mother or the child (preferrably in high school or college).

We could ask for a list of the dependents with contact numbers and email addresses and we could choose from there.

I know a few dollars a month won’t hurt that much. If we can’t afford to send one child to college maybe two or three people together can afford it.

It would be easier because we don’t have to set up a trust fund.

For those who have more in life, can adopt more than one scholar.

  89. Brownberry Brownberry

Remembering Edsa II. We remember Edsa II by recalling the New York Times Editorial which wrote:

“People Power 2 was met with doubt and criticism, described by foreign commentators, as a ‘defeat of due process,’ as ‘mob rule,’ and ‘a de facto coup.’ It was seen as an elitist backlash against a president who had overwhelmingly been elected by the poor. This time. It appears ‘people power’ was used not to restore democracy but, momentarily, to supplant it.”

There’s no doubt that Edsa II was not a genuine revolt or people power but an elitist plot financed by big Makati businessmen and Chinoy Taipan.

  90. In despair In despair

I was told that some of the young officers are having a hard time trying to make both ends meet. However, some are financially stable. But despite financial difficulties, their spirits are high and still fighting….

Some officers in Tanay make jewelries and rosaries for sale to augment their income. One officer makes leche flan for sale. Another officer has set up a small sari sari store to cater to the needs of his fellow detainees. Another officer sells softdrinks. Others breed dogs for sale…

  91. Brownberry Brownberry

True indeed…how many active, inactive, retired soldiers are suffering…in poverty? Iyon kaunting benefits nila kung minsan nanakawin pa. Ask any soldier who goes to AFP and Veteran offices to claim their benefits, paiikutin sila at pabalik-balik. Kawawa sila kung walang connection. As in other government agency under this corrupt GMA regime, hindi kikilos kapag walang padulas. Kawawang mga sundalo. It is for this reason that we need a leader or President who understand the soldiers’ plight. That’s why I believe Ping Lacson is a better candidate if only because of this.

  92. In despair,
Thats good to hear, these guys are pro-active. Id, are you abroad right now? Anyway, ask Ellen for my email address.

  93. In despair In despair

We do believe na marami tayong kababayan na nasa abroad ang magsisimpatya to help our brave soldiers. Kung sino man ang nasa Pinas ngayon eh try your best to coordinate this matter sa Ellenville community at pwede kay Maám Ellen natin e-coordinate this matter kung walang problema.

BB: there is no such thing as “spiritual immunity” hindi komo sila ay nakasayang puti at ako ay nakasayang pula they are less of a sinner..jug is right we all read the “word” koran, torah, or for us bible..and live it..the words in the bible are alive and active..hindi ba?
jug: re helping the wives of our soldiers…do they have an association? it was mentioned here that they do have cottage industries, business, etc. self help project..somebody suggested scholarship..how do we select?.. The Filipino Children’s Fund Inc. of which I am a member..”lends” money for children to start a garden, or raise hogs, etc. like the 4-H..but before we send the money they submit a project study. in San Andres Bukid we financed projects like “trapo making” (hindi yong politicians), etc. but they have to organize..and they have to work it out..some would tend to a sari sari store..some would make jewelries, rosaries, etc. and we could fund their projects..we fund the purchasing of materials they use..and the funds revolve..babalik nila para may gagamitin din sila..kaya lang somebody should over seer..nasa kanila rin ang pagtulong with each other..

  104. Brownberry Brownberry

Look at what Cardinal Sin did…he opposed the Vatican’s order. But sad to say, the church is more into politics than the spiritual needs of the flock.

  105. rose rose

jug: to continue..sa scholarship naman medio mahirap baka magkaingitan pa in the choice of scholars..dapat may criteria..The Iloilo Society of America of which I am also a member we have been granting scholarships and we do have good results..pero may tie up kami with the Dept. of Edu. in Iloilo..and again monitored.
In both associations, we raise the money here and the recipients are in the Phil. Sa FCF, there are only about 11 of us but we have helped,we are helping projects in Cebu, Davao, Cotabato, Guimaras, etc. in promoting cottage industries…ang requirement namin is transparency..they have to give us a report each year of how money was used..and whenever anyone of us go home or visit the PI we also visit and meet with the group..transparency and accountability is the thing..

Livelihood nila.

  110. Another government lie: The FAA downgrade is just a temporary setback. – Bunye, the court jester.

Liars! Lalo na si Aling Gloria.

    Sinung Aling Gloria ba Toh?

  111. Valdemar Valdemar

    In Despair, Balweg, thanks.
To me, the breed of gentlemen included Marcos, who didnt want to hurt a fly, the coup makers in Cory’s time that were only shot at by Lim, the lowly farmers also shot at by Lim, Estrada who avoided the rogues, Estrada’s loyals who were killed at Malacanan, Trillanes who didnt think of killing anyone at the Oakwood, Trillanes who was machinegunned at the Penn and the few more under fire in the courts, vanquished and the vanished. And the lesser bred that were the protagonists, opportunists, ‘religious’ and paranoids mostly now in the glory of the administration with the panic button.

  112. Brownberry Brownberry

What do Marcos, Erap and Trillanes have in common? They did not order their men to shoot. Not a single shot was fired by the security of Marcos and Erap when they were about to fall; not a single shot was fired by men of Trillanes at Manila Pen.
What do Cory and Gloria have in common? Many farmers killed in that Mendiola Massacre, and some poor people were hurt and killed in Edsa 3 as they marched to Mendiola.

Grizzy: sa Iloilo Society the scholarship program has been in existence since 1983..and transparent ang funds..every year after a fund raising event which is basically a dinner dance..we put out an audited financial statement published sa Filipino Reporter.. during the dinner dance we put out sa Journal a report on the scholarships given..names..schools etc.
..Sa Filipino Childrens Fund, ganoon din..financial reports and how the money was used..the organization was founded in 1986 and there are 11 of us…And in both organizations I am the Treasurer for more than 10 years…And when anyone of us visit the Phil. we meet with the coordinators and we give a report here..in addition to their annual report to us. and we are not Catholic ganizations..but we work hand in hand with outreach programs in the Phil..and we are all volunteers..marami ang maitutulong sa atin particularly sa mga bata…

  114. Bwahahahahahahah!

Gloves doble, may ear muff pa ako. Katakot!

  116. parasabayan parasabayan

Rose, to assist the children of the incarcerated officers you need not have any criteria nor accounting system. Just pick a child and send the money to the Parents-incarcerated officer or his other half. If the wife is unable to manage the money, you can send the money straight to the school and to the dorm manager. You can direct pay the registrar’s cashier. I have done this for years with sudents I help and it works. This will elimate the middleman and accountability issues.

Katakot!”

Manila is lucky that the airport doesn’t have much traffic. The airport is blind — no long range radars to speak of.

  119. balweg balweg

    Ka Grizzy,

Sinabi mo pa, na magic na iyon!

  120. It’s the 23rd day of Jan. I understand there were peaceful rallies in Manila yesterday. But where is the coup? I hope the idiots will not say that their rumormongering paid off and prevented a coup!

Ang galing! …sa pagsisinungaling, as always!

I agree, but not downgrading our country because of our corrupt and inept airport officials.

Sasabihin nila na di safe ang NAIA? How come?

  122. rose rose

parasabayan: you are right direct help is easy to manage total there are only 5 soldiers..and they seem to be young families may college age na ba?
I am not against helping other countries..but don’t we need to work for peace in the Phil..and don’t we need our soldiers? Mag
kano ba ito? Sino ang babayad ng gastos nila?

  123. Brownberry Brownberry

Peaceful rallies talaga. Bakit tahimik ngayon si Gunggongsalez after the rallies? Kudos to Manila Mayor Lim who instructed the Manila cops not to carry firearms. Lim was even at the rallies. What would have happened if it was still Atienza? Baka nga talagang gulo…

  124. grizzy,

  125. Brownberry Brownberry

Wala iyan…wala iyang New York compared sa Canada.

  126. Brownberry Brownberry

But kidding aside, I heard some parts of Canada have negative 40. TT already mentioned that some men when they pee results in ice. Ah ewan…I’ve never experienced that. I used to ask people what they prefer…too hot or too cold. Some say they prefer hot because they could remove all their clothes. Some say they prefer cold since they can always wear thick warm clothes. What country has the best climate and weather?

  129. I just finished watching CNN’s special on Martin Luther King, and while I did, I could not help thinking of General Lim, Senator Trillanes, Col. Querubin, et al in jail.

I wish they could watch that special show likewise and be inspired by it not to despair but continue to fight for the principles, etc. that they now much more than ever are determined to uphold.

They are not alone as a matter of fact. There are a lot many of us behind them in their fight.

Tuloy ang laban! Walang titinag! Martsa lang even with our fingers!!!

  130. Brownberry Brownberry

What RP needs badly is a Martin Luther King…not because we want someone to be shot and killed…but we need someone who shall lead the people against this evil regime.
