Retired military and police officials, wives of detained officers join Makati rally

From ABS-CBN Online:

Retired officials of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP),
the wives of the jailed military officers , and other participants in the failed Peninsula Manila rebellion were also present in the inter-faith rally in Makati Friday, ABS-CBN News reported.

The retired military officials said that while their colleagues could not speak up they will represent their voice, ABS-CBN News correspondent Ces Oreña-Drilon reported.

“Well, it’s something between them and their conscience. Sana buhay pa ‘yong Honor Code (I hoe the Honor Code is still alive),” said retired General Romeo Dominguez referring to the Honor Code inculcated in cadets of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA).

“Kung talagang may (If there is really) decay, then it is up to them,” said Gen. Guillermo Cunanan, member of PMA Class 1971.

Meanwhile, the wives of the jailed military officers are speaking up in behalf of their husbands – some even participating in a rally for the first time.

“Napapanahon na naman na makisama tayo sa mga kababayan natin sa paghahanap ng katotohanan at justice sa ating bansa,” said Delia Miranda, wife of Maj. Gen. Renato Miranda.

(It’s about time that we join our countrymen in the search for truth and justice in our country.)

“Kasi lagi na lang yung husband ko ang lumalabas sa TV (My husband was usually the one who comes out in the TV), now I’m joining him in his crusade for peace, for justice, and for truth,” said Aloysia Lim, wife of Brig. Gen. Danilo Lim.

Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV, who is also in jail, was represented by his brother Tiny Trillanes.

“Marami nang lumalabas para magsabi ng katotohanan, so ayun, medyo masaya na siya ngayon,” said the senator’s brother.

(A lot of people are coming out to speak the truth, so there, he’a a bit more happy now.)

Other former officials speak up

Other former officers of the police and military also spoke up regarding the “silence” of the police and armed forces.

Sen. Panfilo Lacson, who was a former chief of the Philippine National Police, said that PNP chief Director General Avelino Razon and Armed Forces’ chief of staff Gen. Hermogenes Esperon Jr. should ask their men about their sentiments and make a stand based on it.

The opposition senator said that in 2001, the PNP withdrew its support for former president Joseph Estrada after Lacson – who was PNP chief then and is a loyal Estrada supporter – consulted his men.

“Kung si Gen. Razon, Gen. Esperon will have a heart-to-heart talk with all their officers, with all their personnel – ‘yung non-commissioned officers ng PNP at saka ng AFP – let’s see kung ano yung sasabihin sa kanila. Yung talagang walang takutan ha,” Lacson said.

(If Gen. Razon, Gen. Esperon will have a heart-to-heart talk with all their officers, with all their personnel – the non-commissioned officers of the PNP and AFP – let’s see what they would say. It should be without fear of reprisal.)

On the other hand, Jose Almonte, the so-called ‘godfather’ of the Reform the Armed Forces Movement (RAM) which was instrumental in the downfall of former president Ferdinand Marcos, said that all sectors of society except the military have already united for a common cause.

Almonte, however, said he does not want to “pre-empt” the opinion of those currently in active service.

“I do not really want to advance an opinion, I do not want to preempt anything,” said Almonte.

  1. Ellen,

Konting hagod pa. So far so good.

No one wants this creep dead, so her publicity agent may just as well think of a better gimmick to gain sympathy for the midget (BTW, ayaw daw niya ng tawag na iyan). Nobody is buying the bomb threat, etc. crazy rumors they are peddling around.

Sigaw ninyo, “Freedom!”

Asspweron and noRason will never make patol to Ping Lacson’s dare for an honest to goodness talk with their men and “ask about their sentiments and make a stand based on it”.

Bulsa muna bago bansa, di ba mga misters of the bitch?!

All sectors of society are united at Makati rally. Gloria Arroyo is politically isolated. It seems she won’t resign. Kapit-tuko hangang 2010.

  16. Tongue, thanks for pointing that out. I was so tired last night I didn’t notice that factual error in the ABS-CBN story.

Many of the reporters have difficulty distinguishing Miranda et al (officers involved in the Feb. 2006 plan to withdraw support) and the Magdalo group (Oakwood 2003).

The more that the lines are blurred with Brig. Gen. Danilo Lim detained together with the Magdalo in Camp Crame.

Kung sabagay, they all have the same objective: to restore honor, dignity and integrity in the AFP.

  17. andres andres

Mabuhay ang mga Kawal Pilipino! Our dreams will never die!

  18. Ellen: Kung sabagay, they all have the same objective: to restore honor, dignity and integrity in the AFP.

    *****
Kaya nga sabi ko iba’t ibang diskarte OK lang, iisa lang naman ang objective—Truth and the Resignation of Gloria the Evil Bitch!

Tuloy ang laban! Wala nang urungan! Kunsumihin si Gloria Dorobo, she, who lives and dies by the sword!

  20. Mrivera Mrivera

    “nakakaiyak. nakakatuwa.”

  21. Statement of Sen. Kiko Pangilinan:

The list of illegal and unlawful acts grows longer. This is an attempt at hiding the truth about the growing disenchantment and the popular outcry against the administration as seen in the number of protestors in Makati.

The more they try to hide the truth, the more they fan the flames of outrage and anger now being felt by our people. The no fly zone policy is another attempt by this government at preventing the truth from reaching our people. The act is deplorable and violates our right to a free press. This is another unconstitutional act committed by government.

  22. Mrivera Mrivera

    kiki pangilinan,

Ang daming abogadong gustong ituwid ang mali sa batas ng Pilipinas, why doesn’t Kiko sit down with them and do something para mabawi ang mga rights and privileges na ibinigay sa kriminal when they declared her winner in the 2004 election kahit hindi naman totoo. Bakit hindi siya magkonsulta sa kanila to disqualify the crook with all the available evidences like the Garci tapes, etc.? Ang hina naman! Mahirap kasi ang mga alanganin!

  24. bitchevil bitchevil

Kiko Pangilinan is eyeing for Vice President. Don’t be surprised if he runs as Noli’s Vice. Noli-Kiko for 2010?

  27. ATO JUSTIFIES NO-FLY ZONE OVER MAKATI

The Air Transportation Office (ATO) explained yesterday that the no-fly zone declared over Makati City last February 29 which coincided with the interfaith rally was authorized and justified under the aviation flight rules applicable over the Philippines.

ATO Executive Director Daniel A. Dimagiba said that based on the Visual Flight Rules (VFR) of the Aeronautical Information Publication (AIP), VFR flights “shall not be operated between sunset and sunrise, or such period between sunset and sunrise as may be prescribed by the ATS (Air Traffic Service) authority.”

The same rules provide that “Except when necessary for take-off or landing or except by permission from the appropriate authority, VFR flights shall not be flown “over the congested areas of the cities, towns or settlements or over an open air assembly of persons at a height less than 300 meters (1,000 feet) above the highest obstacle within a radius of 600 meters (2,000 feet) from the aircraft.”
