Yano to Marcelino: “Stay on the side of truth”

by Joel Guinto
Inquirer.net

Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief of staff General Alexander Yano called to his office a Marine officer who exposed the alleged bribery in the so-called “Alabang Boys” case, advising him to stay “on the side of the truth,” the military’s spokesman said.

During a 15-minute meeting in Camp Aguinaldo, Yano also warned Major Ferdinand Marcelino, who is detailed to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), against groups with “vested interest” that might take advantage of him, Lieutenant Colonel Ernesto Torres Jr., AFP public affairs office chief, said.

“The advice of the chief of staff [to Marcelino] is to always be on the side of the truth and preserve his moral courage…and lastly, to be wary of some groups with vested interest who may take advantage of the situation,” Torres said.

Marcelino had alleged that a “mistah,” or classmate in the 1994 Class of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA), offered him P3 million to drop charges against three alleged big-time drug traffickers from prominent families.

Torres said Yano was not taking sides on the bribery issue and was only helping out a soldier in a “difficult situation,” as the “father” of the Armed Forces.

The meeting between Yano and Marcelino was very significant. Yano’s advice to the young officer was like sending a message to the whole AFP that the time has come for a change. If Angie Reyes violated his mandate has AFP Chief in ousting Erap, Yano is justified in doing the same to this Evil Bitch.

  2. bitchevil bitchevil

I had my reservation about Yano when he became AFP Chief. But his action this time shows he’s made of different breed.

  3. Gabriela Gabriela

On the other hand, it could be that Yano is worried that Marcelino find find comfort with “rebel” soldiers who share his adherence to what is right.

  4. Gabriela Gabriela

    corection: Marcelino would find comfort….

  5. Gabriela Gabriela

Kahit wala ang ‘fatherly advice’ ni Yano, upright soldiers like Major Marcelino will carry on with what is right, what is true and what is just.

“It is not the system, it is the person”!

    Free the Tanay boys!

    Free BGen. Danny Lim!

Free Senator Trillanes and fellow courageous Magdalos!

As long as these Officers and Gentlemen are not given freedom by Gloria and her AFP, no amount of ‘fatherly advice’ coming from Yano will change my position that the current AFP is toeing the fake commander’s line. Sori, pero hardcore ako e!

  8. SULBATZ SULBATZ

Major Marcelino does not need to be advised to stay on the side of the truth….because HE ALREADY IS!!!.

General Yano should instead exhort, advise and outrightly order those who had knowledge and participation in the election fraud of 2004 to tell the truth NOW!.He could start by reopening an investigation. I WILL HELP HIM FIND WITNESSES. In fact, I know of more than 500 witnesses. Sa Marines pa lang yan.

  9. balweg balweg

  10. The advice “to be wary of some groups with vested interest who may take advantage of the situation” is a double-bladed sword. It could go both ways. I’m in no mood to applaud someone whose words could be interpreted in any angle, depending on whose side one comes from.

  13. bitchevil bitchevil

Double-bladed sword. That’s what I thought too. Be wary of vested groups could be the opposition and the soldiers who oppose this evil administration. But at least, Yano is unlike Esperon who only carried one sword for the Evil Bitch. Yano only needs a spark to trigger his decision. I’m optimistic that if worse comes to worst, Yano would be on the side of the opposition which are the people.

And now, the NBI warns Marcelino that he could be charged for obstruction of justice if he refuses to be investigated at NBI. If I were Marcelino, I wouldn’t go to NBI simply because NBI is under DOJ. There are other personalities who snubbed NBI in the past but were not touched. Why be so strict on Marcelino? What’s needed is an independent body to investigate; not a government agency under a department accused of bribery.

  15. Both anti-Gloria broadsheets Malaya and Daily Tribune carried the story of Mar Roxas and his 2010 presidential focus. But while Malaya says that his pronouncements would be for unifying the opposition, Tribune says it is shooting down a united opposition slate. Now I believe that it is Ninez Olivarez who is shooting down any and all of Manny Villar’s possible opponents.

    Eleksiyon na nga! Tuloy ba?

  16. NBI warns Marcelino that he could be charged for obstruction of justice

NBI should arrest, instead, Gonzales and Gloria for destruction of justice!

  17. bitchevil bitchevil

I’ve always been an avid fan of Daily Tribune and Ninez Olivarez. But when the paper started criticizing Ping Lacson and praised Manny Villar, I began to smell something. The paper has always been subsidized by politicians mostly from the opposition. Very likely, Manny Villar is the one subsidizing it. During the Black Nazarene procession in Manila, Villar’s big banners were everywhere.

  18. Mike Mike

Baliktad yata. shouldn’t it be Maj. Marcellino telling Gen. Yano that? Stay on the side of truth? The Major is already doing what he is suppose to do, telling the truth. I don’t know about Yano. Tsk tsk!

  19. bitchevil bitchevil

Gen. Yano just wanted to ask if Marcelino was telling the truth. Yano asked Marcelino: “Were all you said true or not?
Answer me Ya or No.” Marcelino replied: “Ya, sir”.

  20. syria syria

be, Erap is the Manila Standard Today’s daily star. I mistakingly thought that he was its editor-in-chief.

  21. bitchevil bitchevil

No way. Manila Standard is very pro-Malacanang.

  22. vic vic

But when will the “side of the truth” prevail over the side of the dark evils if many of the very people who has the weight and the blades to help the campaign would rather let the messenger fight a lonely battle against the Giants of the Dark Night and just be the Spectators and Cheerleaders?

  23. syria syria

be, sorry for my mistake. I should have said the Daily Tribube instead of the MST.

  24. bitchevil bitchevil

Erap is very close to Ninez Olivarez. That, I guarantee you.

  25. bitchevil bitchevil

    Off topic:

I have a minor observation about Joc Joc and Manila Cardinal Rosales. They look alike.

  26. syria syria

be, i believe in what you said. Erap has been Ninez’s daily column.

  27. bitchevil bitchevil

To be frank with you and excuse me the many Erap fans, Daily Tribune was subsidized by Erap and then now passed to Manny Villar. Ninez often attends Erap’s parties. But don’t get me wrong, it doesn’t mean what she and the paper write is untrue.
It’s one thing to be close, and another thing to be writing about the truth.

muk ang nahifit hata si futot ngayon…will she jail Marcelino now for conduct unbecoming of a gentleman and officer? will she ask Yano to detain him and be the new kid in Tanay Camp? Ano Mr. General Ya? or No? Mr. General Ya? or No?

  30. Al Al

If I were Maj. Marcelino, why would I go to NBI? Would Mantaring be able to conduct a credible investigation? Who is his boss? Siraulo Gonzalez!

Siraulo has already cleared his prosecutors and has been antagonistic to Marcelino.

Marcelino has already shared info to congressmen in an executive session. He can do so in the Senate. But not with the NBI which is under DOJ.

  31. bitchevil bitchevil

NBI is under DOJ headed by Raul Goonzalez. No further explanation needed.

  32. Pag nagsalita ng “stay on the side of truth” e appointee ni Gloria Mandarambong, mas mabuti pang i-hold ninyo ang inyong hininga. In other words, subject to doubt and scrutiny.

  33. MPRivera MPRivera

if i were gen yano, i shall pack up my things, vacate my office and join maj marcelino in TELLING ALL THE TRUTH AND NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH, not that only saying to the major to side with the truth because he (yano) is serving the BIGGEST small sinungaling na mandaraya’t magnanakaw of all time. and so with this ltcol ernesto torpes, jr.

    mahiya naman kayo!

  34. Valdemar Valdemar

I remember a whole class of the PMA was placed at the Customs. Yano must be wary of what happened with them at the Customs.

  35. eddfajardo eddfajardo

In our small world, we have a saying . . . “a marine is always a marine.” Despite the apparent attempt by its commandant Major-General Dolorfino to silence Major Marcelino dahil alam niya solid na solid ang marines sa pagsuporta sa mga binulgar na lagayan sa mga fixcals at prosexcutors ni Siraulo, tila nababahala ngayon si Gloria kaya nga kinausap niya si General Yano na magbigay ng fatherly advise na di naman talaga kailangan. Marcelino is only telling the truth and nothing but the truth. . . hay naku!!!!

  36. etcetera etcetera

AFP Chief of Staff told Major Marcelino to stay on the side of the truth.

So, what did Yano told bansot and fatboy pidal the other day? Below from todays Tribune:
AFPCS Gen. Alexander Yano, in a press statement from Malacanang, was quoted as having assured Gloria, of his and the AFP’s absolute and unwavering commitment toward her mandate to protect the Constitution. But Yano didn’t stop there. He again assured his bogus Commander-in-Chief that the AFP’s chain of command is intact and fully supportive of her.

Yano is just another Esperon. Yano is a double talker, he says ya and no at the same time…..lol

  37. Why can’t Yano be straightforward?
