Cory back on Time magazine cover, dubbed ‘saint of democracy’

time-magazine TIME magazine paid tribute to former President Corazon Aquino, featuring her again on the cover in its Aug. 17 issue.

Calling Mrs. Aquino “The Saint of Democracy,” Time recalled how the former housewife became the country’s and Asia’s first female president through People Power in 1986 and inspired the rest of the world:

“The only weapon she possessed was moral courage. But with it she discovered a groundbreaking truth: that a populace holding nothing more than candles and rosary beads could face a cavalcade of tanks, topple a dictator and, most improbable of all, usher in democracy.”

People Power Revolution is exploited by the elite class for their selfish end. Politicos are riding the yellow fever tide with the demise of President Cory Aquino. Edsa Dos 2001 was a fake revolt, but a well-planned coup d’etat by then Vice President Gloria Arroyo, the Supreme Court (SC) justices, Catholic bishops, the military, police and business groups, led by the Makati Business Club. Edsa Dos’ supporters have created a Frankenstein monster known as Jose Pidal Mafia. They want to cling in power beyond 2010.

OT: The 4 honor guards from Manila Cathedral to Manila Memorial became “instant celebrities”, were given accolades and even cash rewards. My question is, how about the first batch of honor guards that was with the remains of Pres. Cory atop the truck for 5 hours from De La Salle Greenhills to Manila Cathedral? Are they the same group?

    Diego,
Another shameless politician who also rode on the “yellow fever tide” right in the wake of Tita Cory where she distributed bracelets with her ugly picture attaced to it.

The great Tita Cory deserved every front page of international magazines and major newspapers.

If Barack Obama reads the Time magazine that featured him more that 10 times in its cover before, he should know by now that our “small” Philippines has a President Corazon Aquino who the world, not only us, is very proud of as the ‘saint of democracy’ as called by the very magazine that supported him.

Obama, Gloria Arroyo is not worth it, get it?!

  6. Come to think of it. Cory died without seeing her country great, and her efforts to have the criminal step down and take legal responsibility for her actions taken to naught.

I hope people writing about Cory now will emphasize this fact, that she died in vain not seeing democracy really working in her country.

    May she rest in peace!

time magazine latest cover of the late Pres. Cory only shows how the world respect and give utmost importance to her, as an icon of democracy…kakabilib, kahit paano masasabi mong sarap maging pilipino, at iba ang maging pilipino na sana lamang ay magkaroon ng kabuluhan ang pag-asang sinimulan ng butihing pangulo.

    NO TO TRAPOS 20101

Cory Aquino is one of our great presidents.
    🙂

  11. passerby passerby

raymund, dapat wag natin bigyan ng kulay ang kung anumang pakikiramay na ginawa. let us give everyone the courtesy man lang. death is a very sensitive issue, let us not put malice into everything na rin. madami pang ibang angles na puedeng tignan. even GMA who went to pay her final respects i think was acceptable, although we will never condone what she has done to this country. kung sina senator noynoy nga nagpasalamat sa sincerity nung mga nakiramay, i think we should, too. at least for the sake of civility.

    Diego & iwatcher,

Yes, it was Jamby who distributed those bracelets at Tita Cory’s wake. They denied it kasi nagkaroon ng negative reaction ang public.

She’s a shame to the opposition.

I hope that politicians of today’s generation will emulate what former President Corazon Aquino did for the country and the Filipino people. They should always be reminded that if not for her, they wouldn’t be where they are today.

we dont have street names in kamuning, only numbers. perhaps we can name my street there after one like cory.

    Chi,

B Obama is not in favor of democracy if you are against him he will the people inforn of the reported about the persons who are against him… He gives names like mobs, nazis by his Democrats Senators…. & shut up. Maybe Obama plan to inprison those who opposed him.

  17. Rudolf Valiante Rudolf Valiante

Filipinos and politicians in particular are very good in criticizing the government, whoever is in power… Simply for one reason, they want to be the one in power. For the last 30 years, I had never seen anyone (politicians) who provided any suggestions or specific solutions to the problem of the country. Politicians knows that the great majority of voters are the poor and so they keep using slogan that would cater to the poor. Filipino parents (majority) would rather spend time drinking licquor (fathers) and playing “bingo or whatever card games” (mothers) instead of guiding their children in their assignments in school… then they would criticize the government why they are poor. Sick…. Here in Canada, there is no way that a politician should spend so much to become elected, MPs (congressman in Phils) are elected by their constituents & they choose the Prime Minister.. in the Philippines, Presidential & senatorial candidates needs to spend so much thus needed to look for kingmakers.. sick..
