Got a text from Anna Leah Sarabia that Ramon Santos, the National Artist for music nominee who was dropped by Gloria Arroyo, is at the intensive care unit of the Phillippine Heart Center.
He suffered severe headache last night so he went to the doctor. Initial findings point to aneurysm. He is scheduled for surgery tomorrow.
Anna forwarded this text from Waya, daughter of Santos: “I just talked to the doctor. may intramural hematoma si Dad. mas rare daw yun sa aneurysm. Namumuo ang blood sa ‘wall’ ng ugat o heart. As of now, hoping he may not need an operation but they are preparing for noon surgery tomorrow.”
Santos, a music composer was in the original list of four endorsed for the prestigious awards by the National Commission on Culture and Arts and the Cultural Center of the Philippines. The other three are the late Tagalog novelist Lazaro Francisco, the late filmmaker Manuel Conde and painter Federico Aguilar Alcuaz.
In what many in the artists community derided as “dagdag-bawas” referring to election cheating, Arroyo dropped Santos and added four names: Presidential Adviser on Culture and the Arts Cecile Guidote-Alvarez for theater; fashion designer Jose Moreno, architect Francisco Manosa and komiks writer and movie director Carlo J. Caparas for film and visual arts.
The artists community’s protest is most vehement in the case of Caparas, who employs illustrators for his komiks and Alvarez, who, as NCCA head, is disqualified from the awards.
CCP and NCCA insiders said Caparas was eliminated at the first screening while Alvarez was never in the list.
Malacañang invoked presidential prerogative in bypassing the CCP and NCCA recomendation. Press Secretary Cerge Remonde challenged the critics to go to court.

Kaawaan na lamang natin sila dahil napakahirap na papel ang ginagampanan nila. Sa hirap ba naman ng buhay sa kasalukuyan, wala na ngang nagtitiwala sa kanila, kaya sinasamantala na nila, at least, nagkakamal sila ng kuwarta.

God forbid, if anything happens to Ramon Santos, blame should be put squarely on Gloria Arroyo.

Hopefully, Mr. Santos will have a successful operation with no side effect like getting paralyzed, etc. that usually happens to people with aneurysm. It’s actually hereditary that is agfravated by stress and all.
As for Gloria Dorobo being responsible for all other killings, you bet, she is, especially those committed by people under her command like the now more than a thousand victims of military and police sweepings of Gloria’s critics and conceived enemies.

hmmm. i don’t think the “aneurysm” of Ramon Santos is a result of the National Artist award scandal..or maybe it is..
and, as i’ve heard, it’s not aneurysm.. anyway, let’s just pray that Ramon Santos will have a safe operation and that he will recover immediately.
