Noynoy Aquino sets the pace

No doubt about it. With his declaration of his presidential bid in the 2010 elections, Sen. Noynoy Aquino, is dictating the agenda and pace of the campaign.

The issue has become character versus competence. This simplification, unfair it may be, reflects the people’s frustration with Gloria Arroyo. People are willing to take the risk with someone without a track record of leadership as long as he is not corrupt.

It was the death of former President Cory Aquino which triggered the interest for Noynoy and advanced the timetable of the campaign.

Now that Noynoy has declared his candidacy, other presidential candidates cannot let Noynoy have a field day with media for weeks or else they would be swept into oblivion.

Chiz Escudero of the Nationalist People’s Coalition cannot afford to wait for his Oct. 10 birthday while the camp of former President Estrada spread the rumor that he will be sliding down to be his running mate. NPC will be holding their convention next week to decide whether it’s Chiz or Sen. Loren Legarda who will be carrying the banner for them in 2010. Most likely it would be Chiz.

Everybody is waiting for the next survey to see how much of the voting population has turned “yellow.”

Here’s a sampling of what I got from the internet:

Enchong: “With the acceptance of Noynoy for him to contest the presidency, I believe, we now have an alternative who is, at least, untainted and winnable.

“It has been said several times that Noynoy does not have any track record to back him up. I agree. But I would rather go for an unknown quantity than for anybody who has a track record of wrongdoings and among the wannabe’s, who does not have any skeletons in the closet?

“Noynoy has been criticized for being so quiet during his entire public life. I agree. But, as the cliche goes, silent waters do run deep.

“I saw footages of his press conference. In one part, he sounded like laying down his platform. He talked about justice being for everybody and not just for the privileged class. He also talked about the current state of education under an ‘uneducated’ DepEd, citing the routinary mistakes in textbooks year in and year out. I believe that these two issues, justice and education, are good starting points.

“The issue now is not to look for democratic or political maturity. Not yet, at least. The more urgent issue is to bring back democratic space and political sanity. I do not expect Noynoy to do that. However, with Noynoy, I am praying that we can all make that happen.”

Phil Cruz: “Noynoy has the integrity but his capability is doubtful. As for Noynoy being elite and therefore not masa, this is true. He is not masa but he could also be for the masa. Erap was elite but he was for the masa. Cory was elite but she was loved by the masa.

“So I guess time will tell. He just might surprise people by growing into the job. But I agree that he should not mention consulting with his sisters too much.

“But these are minor matters. What’s important for me now is that there is now an honest man as an alternative to all the other presidentiables. An honest man that has the moral force to prevent or at least minimize graft and corruption. And as 40% of our budget is wasted on corruption, a moral leader can do much.

“Let us not forget that two of the biggest crooks in our nation’s history were said to be the smartest and the most prepared. One was an outstanding lawyer. The other an economics professor.”

Jet Hernandez: “If he wants to be president, all he needs to do is file his certificate of. Huwag yung magko-consult pa sa mga sisters niya at sa Dios. Kapag magkaproblema pala tayo sa bansa natin, magko-consult pa siya sa mga kapatid at sa Dios?”

Arlene de Guzman: “I agree with Noynoy consulting with his family because their lives would once again be changed by his candidacy. They had been through so much when their parents were in politics.

“Noynoy also was hesitant to join the presidential candidacy and chose to get affirmation from the people. It had been done by Cory and Fernando Poe.”

Neil Papas: “How can Noynoy Aquino talk about law and order or peace and development as part of his platform of government when there was none at Hacienda Luisita?”

  1. Reiterating y earlier remarks:
The diversity of opinions about the prospective Noynoy presidency is delightful, but there is one consensus about his character — he is a decent person. To me, decency means a clear conscience, a quality apparently missing in the Arroyo brood and some of the putative candidates for the presidency. It is my hope that the electorate, including Anna and Tongue, will finally decide in favor of decency in the 2010 contest.
In reply to the query: “Noynoy may be decent but what about the people who will be running the country ‘behind his back’. Like the Kamaganak, Inc., nuong panahon ni Cory? ”
    My response —
Granted Noynoy is carrying some heavy baggage, mostly inherited. As some here commented,
“a guy whose greatest accomplishment so far is being the child of his parents”, and the millstone burden of a brat sister whose taste in paramours is terrible and whose logorrhea is unparalleled (posing a risk that sibling advise may escape the decency filter). That only proves he is human, just like us.
Granted too that the Kamaganak syndrome is a potent threat, but that would be true to ANY presidency, and the well entrenched hegemonies still are the present day warlords of their fiefs — the oligarches, political dynasties, the bureaucrat-business partners in corruption. It will take more than one presidential term to dismantle, but a determined honest man (remember Diogenes) can initiate the trend towards a decent society.

Sabi nga, everything happens for a reason. I wonder if the timing of tita Cory’s death has something to do with what people has always prayed for, the emergence of someone who can change for good the governance of our country, like a Providence.

What’s wrong with consulting to God first?

Decency is not enough qualification to be a president. Talking decency as a yardstick for a good president is nonsense. How many Filipinos in the 90 million populations are decent? It’s not just Noynoy or the evil and yellow society has the monopoly of decency. I’m sure more than half or even 90% of the Filipinos are decent individuals but that does not mean they are all qualified to be president. Of course they are qualified to be candidates being citizens, but to occupy the highest post is different thing. Decency is different from being a leader and performer. Even the lowly laborer or the janitor can be a decent man but not as president.

The records of Noynoy as congressman and senator speaks very well of himself. From there one can get an idea what kind of a leader he will be.

Everything happens for a reason, yeah right. Cory died because she has cancer. That’s the only reason one can think of.

  5. I’m not convinced Cory’s death was providential, this God must be a brutal one. People were led by Cardinals and priests in prayer at EDSA. Gloria is what it produced! The death of democracy and government. More people prayed that FPJ’s election protest be treated favorably at the SC, but FPJ’s life was snuffed out. More than two-thirds of Filipinos want Gloria out, it was Cory who got the boot.

No amount of prayer will change the course of politics in the country. It in fact only got worse. Action is a far better course to take. Let prayer be an enlightening beacon shining on the path of this perilous journey. But it will not end our ills by itself.

God only helps those who help themselves.

Correct, Cory died of cancer, but what i am saying is the timing. Well, everyone can have her say here.

Now, Ms Florry, tell us who that qualified candidate of yours is, i, for one might consider.

Divine intervention ang pagtakbo ni Noynoy? Insulto yan sa Maykapal; no matter how upright or “saintly” Noynoy is.

Si Glue, pili daw ng Diyos, as revealed to the Pope.

The Devil can quote Scripture, and invoke the name of God; whether that Devil is Osama Bin Laden, Kenkoy Bush, or the Glue. The last political leader chosen by God was David. Basahin niyo ang Biblia, kayong mga sanctimonious.

If we took the Name of the Lord God less in vain, baka mabawasan ang Kalbaryo ng Pilipinas.

Just like Florry, I do not see anyone of these presidentiables meeting the criteria of a leader who can stir us from this mess we are in. We are on top of the list of the most corrupt countries. Long after the boobuwit is gone, all her cronies are still in their positions and there is nothing anyone can do, lalong lalo na kung lalamya lamya ang susunod na presidente.

  14. henry90 henry90

O di ba mas biglang naging masarap ang kuro-kuro dito na may isang lalamya-lamya na walang accomplishment kuno sa kongreso at nakakalbo pa ang biglang sumulpot na parang multo at biglang kinabahan yata pati malacanang sa kanyang napipintong pagtakbo. . That is the beauty of democracy my friends. . . they were weighed and were found to be wanting. . .peace to all. . .

  15. The key lesson from the Cory presidency is that high integrity is NOT enough.

We need high integrity plus high performance!

How can Noynoy not set the pace, when the major media outfits like ABS-CBN and Inquirer are building him up? Its like having free advertisement during prime time.

If I may join in the discussion:

    1. Noynoy may “NOT” be the right President of the Republic, as most will say, BUT who is the right President?

    2. Being a President of one country is a THANKLESS job, much more President of the Philippines

    3. In case he got elected, the question that will arise are:
    a) The Kamag-anakan Inc
    b) Will we trust the people surrounding noynoy?
the likes of dinky and the hyatt 10?
    c) The question of “Hacienda Luisita”?
    d) The continued saga of the Marcos-Aquino rivalry
    5) so many more to ask?

In case of Villar? the question surrounding the C-5 controversy and the previous unpaid loans.

With Erap, why don’t just he let someone take the leadership? He said, he has an unfinished business? what unfinished business?

With De Castro, ahh…. the undecided vice president, who is not willing to take the risks?

Escudero – still young but ambitious?

and the the others if I wer to mentione them one by one, but most of you guys knows these wannabes

Bottomline, it is not decency alone that will take us out of our present situation, not integrity alone, but the willingness to make sacrifices and willingness to lead by example.

BUT WHO IS THIS PRESIDENTIAL WANNABE? give me your bet, because, I have no idea who to vote for?

Like anything new, gustong gusto. Noynoy is the new find, mabango pa. Wait until the people will find all his deficiencies. Now he is setting the pace but will he be able to keep it up?

Yourself being once assigned with the PSG knew better than anyone here. First hand ang info na hawak mo.

Ang ayaw kong, tulad nang binanggit ko sa dalawang unahang threads ay ‘yung balak na pagkuha nila kay Mr Noted upang maging spokesman ni Noynoy as planned by Kris herself.

Uuliting ko ulit dito for the third time.

A BIG NO for Noynoy if he will get Kiki Pangilinan his spokesman!

Ginawa lang nilang alibi ang EDSA 1 to restore our Democracy but in reality away ito ng Marcos vs. Aquino na ang nadamay ang buong bansa?

Ano ba ang accomplishment ng Aquino regime? Kaya kulang pa NOT ONCE but TWICE…produkto nila si Tabako & Glorai?

Now, sure si gloria ang top 1 after her 10-years ka ek-ekan panggulo?

  27. Eggplant Eggplant

(14)In terms of peace & order, Pres. Erap created the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Task Force (PAOCTF) with the objective of minimizing, if not totally eradicating, car theft and kidnapping in Metro Manila. With the help of this task force, the PNP for the first time in history achieved a record-high trust rating of +53 percent. Panfilo Lacson was its first head.

    a. The Gross National Product GNP to grow from 0.1 per cent in 1998 to 6-7 per cent in 2004.

    b. Unemployment to decline from 10.1 per cent in 1998 to 6.7-8 per cent.

    c. Inflation to slow down from 9.8 per cent in 1998 to 4-5 per cent.

    d. The national government’s fiscal balance to improve from a deficit of 1.8 per cent of GNP in 1998 to a surplus of 0.7 per cent of GNP.

    e. Finally, export growth to remain strong at 14.5-15.1 per cent.

Alongside these objectives, the plan calls for nurturing a “responsive citizenry” and creating an environment conducive to a better life for all.

??? However, a major bank failure in April 2000 and the impeachment and subsequent departure of President Estrada in the beginning of 2001 led to another slower growth.

    (24) Pres. Erap appointed Hilario G. (hudas & traydor) Davide Jr., then Associate Justice, as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Philippines on November 30, 1998.

    (25) During the Ramos administration a cessation of hostilities agreement was signed between the gov’t and the MILF in July 1997.

    a. This was continued by a series of peace talks and negotiations in Estrada administration. However the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), a Islamic group formed in 1977, seeks to be an independent Islamic State from the Philippines, despite the agreements, a sequence of terrorist attacks with the Philippine military and the civilians still continued.

    b. Such of those attack are 277 violations committed:-

    1> kidnapping a foreign priest, namely Father Luciano Benedetti;

    2> the occupying and setting on fire of the municipal hall of Talayan, Maguindanao;

    3> the takeover of the Kauswagan Municipal Hall;

    4> the bombing of the Lady of Mediatrix boat at Ozamiz City;

5> and the takeover of the Narciso Ramos Highway. By doing so, they inflicted severe damage on the country’s image abroad, and scared much-needed investments away.

6> In addition to this, the Philippine government learned that the MILF has links with Al-Qaeda. Because of this, on March 21, 2000, Pres. Erap declared an “all-out-war” against the MILF. During the war the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines(CBCP) asked Estrada to have a cease-fire with MILF, but Pres. Erap opposed the idea arguing that a cease-fire would cause more terrorist attacks.

    > For the next three months of the war, Camp Abubakar, headquarters of the MILF, fell along with other 13 major camps and 43 minor camps, and then all of which became under controlled by the government. The MILF leader Hashim Salamat fled the country and went to Malaysia.

    > The MILF later declared a Jihad on the government. On July 10 of the same year, the President went to Minadanao and raised the Philippine flag symbolizing victory. After the war the President said, “… will speed up government efforts to bring genuine and lasting peace and development in Mindanao”. In the middle of July the president ordered the military to arrest top MILF leaders.

  37. No amount of prayer will change the course of politics in the country. — Tongue

As everyone knows here, this has always been my sentiment too!

I find it tacky when politicians go around using God and prayers as political gimmickry in the same manner I think it’s not only impractical but also useless for voters to depend/rely on divine intervention, etc…when things go wrong.

As you say, this dependence on and this so-called divine intervention are responsible for the nation’s tragedy, i.e., Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo!

  38. That said, I assure my friends here that I am a believer in God and I am a practising Catholic/Christian.

it will be an endless and fruitless discussion if god and religion will be the subject here. pinas problems are man made and should be solved by humans and not by spirits.i donot believe a single person either can solve it.even if corruption is minimised, there will still be the problem of poverty which can only be minimised when people can get jobs that gives them enough to live decently.erap is touching this problem when he is talking about the masses and the rich. noynoy is touching the problem of corruption when he is talking about decency.

  40. balweg,

    good job there!

  41. I want Noynoy to set the pace and raise the issue of Mikey Arroyo’s unexplained wealth and challenge Malditas Gutierrez’ recent actions or non-actions.

  42. Phil Cruz Phil Cruz

A person of character will almost always decide in favor of what is fair, just and beneficial for the majority.

  43. Balweg,

I commiserate with you because we will never know now if Estrada could have become an excellent president.

  44. I do know that he (nor members of his cabinet I knew), never asked foreign investors for a dime and refused indirect or direct financial offers, aka bribes, by foeign companies wanting to do business with Pinas. He said, all I want is for you to promise you will set up business, invest in the Philippines and create jobs, do legit business, which I can assure you is what most legit foreign businesses wanted first and foremost.

The same cannot be said of Gloria.

During Aquino’s time, while the late president herself might not have been involved in any illegal financial transactions, members of her cabinet and close Malacanang circles were involved in overpricing and in virtually extracting bribes from foreign business.

  45. One of the most corrupt departments during Aquino’s time was DPWH. One of its undersecs was really ganid.

Some people in her PCSG were also corrupt.

A few people positioned directly within her innermost circle were very corrupt and managed bribes with proponents. However, I must be categorical: I don’t think the late president knew that it was happening.

Ramos’ presidency was not immune. People directly found within his innermost circles extorted from foreign businesses.

  46. Ramos own executive secretary (one of them in particular) as well as his legal adviser was not exempted. The executive secretary in question personally demanded bribes from a foreign business group.

  47. Tedanz Tedanz

  48. Tedanz,

    What is “mangmang”?

could the incarceration of erap have made him a better person and thereby probably a better president? abangan sa susunod na kabanata. if this happens to be true, then we have a solution to what we will do to all bad presidents as well as other meandering politicians and public servants. put them in jail and maybe they will have the time to rethink.this does not apply to the arroyos and there may not be enough jail places though.

  50. “I cannot understand why you would call it a euphoria,” he said. “It’s euphoria when you have one million people rejoicing in the streets. But it’s not when you have only 5,000 people wearing yellow shirts.” Prospero Pichay

I believe Ramos and his faction is the one responsible for the killings in the Marcos Period.

    Balweg,

Whatever other people say about Erap (who I believe also became a better person after the incarceration), sa tingin ko mas may pag-asa ang bayan sa kanya!

  54. luzviminda luzviminda

    mumbaki,

I have inclinations to believe that Ramos has to do also with the killing of Dacer-Corbito! Di ba siya yung ka-meeting ni Dacer at may instance na magkausap sila sa telepono on the way to the meeting place.

By the way, Noynoy is NOT Cory and definitely NOT Ninoy! Baka si Kris ang gawing Spokesperson! Hehehe!

  56. Anna, “mangmang” is uneducated.

  57. The key lesson from the Cory presidency is that high integrity is NOT enough.

On the contrary, the Cory administration, contrary to what the civil society wants to project, was also rigged with graft and corruption, and worse, incompetency with excuses that Mrs. Aquino was a novice and could not be expected to wrought a miracle.

In fact, a lot many of the problems besetting the country presently had their roots in her reign as president. Ironically, for all the religiosity projected by Mrs. Aquino’s association with the so-called “men of God,” majority of Filipinos have become immoral and indecent, and shamelessly say that “God will understand.”

  58. Erap is not mangmang. It is an insult to Ateneans to stamp him as such because he is an alumnus of the said school, college dropout though he was. In fact, he speaks better English than the Assumptionista who brags that she is a genius even when she excels only in cheating and telling lies!!! 😛

Still, I would rather that Erap devotes his remaining time on earth to making documentaries on the graft and corruption in his country for his countrymen to know, and eventually do something about.

  59. Yuko,

Erap devotes his remaining time on earth to making documentaries on the graft and corruption in his country for his countrymen to know, and eventually do something about.

Must say this is a splendid idea!

  60. Thanks, Ellen.

Like Yuko, I don’t believe Estrada is “mangmang” or “uneducated” but I believe that he was probably “undereducaed”, if there’s such a thing, because he didn’t pursue formal higher education.

But as we all know formal higher education is not a guarantee that a politician will be a good, effective and honest leader.

  61. “God helps only those who help themselves” is a common notion of those who want to discourage the lazy from just praying and not getting anything, for the truth is God helps the worthy ones, who really needs help because He is a just and merciful God.

Now, Filipinos suffer not because God has not helped them but because they themselves have put it upon themselves the problems they presently have. Kung baga, kumuha sila ng pamukpok sa sarili nilang mga ulo is more like it! 😛

Kundi iyan kagaguhan, ano iyan? Komo nakulong daw si Erap, he is going to be a better president? I doubt!

  62. You bet, Anna, it is the best thing he can do if he wants his countrymen to really remember him by. He can even make money out of those documentaries as a matter of fact, and use his earnings from them to build schools for instance.

Michael Moore has become a millionaire for those films he does, and has given part of his earnings to charities around the world. Down to earth at walang hangin sa ulo he is!

  63. Sinabi mo pa, Anna. My father-in-law was only an elementary school graduate, but he an engineering company in 1932 that is still a thriving industry, and so did the founders of such companies as Honda and Toyota.

Getting a college degree helps but acquired education is nothing compared to “WISDOM” or some natural intelligence that is a gift that comes from Up High. There is a difference between knowledge (chishiki) and wisdom (chie).

Knowledge in fact can be dangerous when it is little or mediocre as the knowledge brags about by the creep at the palace by the murky river. She knows a lot though about cheating and lying!!! 😛

  64. You know Yuko, if Erap decided to publish that kind of book, I would be happy to contribute info.

  66. Truth was Erap was surrounded by Angara, Enrile, et al when the dorobo grabbed power. Hindi man lang siya lumaban when the police and military were supposed to be still under his control.

Still, I tried to rebut all claims against him by Enteng Romano and his Internet Brigade, et al because I thought it was unconstitutional. Even then, I knew, pinukpok na naman ang mga pilipino ang mga ulo nila!!!

Ngayon, ayan na naman sila—isinusulong iyong anak ni Mrs. Aquino, who is definitely riding on the death of his mother projected now as a saint even when she failed to practice what Christ admonished us all to do, like for instance, forgiving those who have trespassed against us, 70 times 7!!!

I know I am not perfect, myself, but at least I am honest to confess to God above that with a promise that I will try to some other time soon, at least, before I leave this life.

When I had the chance to study overseas—UK, US and Japan— doon ko lang nalamang walang sinabi ang education kuno sa Pilipinas. Naglalagay lang sila ng title that they don’t deserve.

Iyon ngang foster father ko sa UK, may doctorate sa Economics but never na nagpatawag siya mismo ng “Dr. Graham” dahil wala siyang kililing sa kukote niya.

Cory never claimed that she was a saint nor that she was the savior everybody thought she was. All she admitted to was she was able to restore democracy especially the right to free speech which all of us are enjoying right now i.e., lambasting and criticizing anyone for any reason, real or imagined. But what is real is the admiration and love that Filipinos all over the Pinas and even foreigners abroad showered her when it was time for her to go. Now tell me which Filipino leader in recent memory was given that much respect and adulation? Pls spare us that kawawang pilipinas line while denigrating us Pinoys. Or u want us to go back to the Japanese Occupation period and discuss the atrocities the sakangs wrought on your hapless kababayans? Pls lang. . .

    (26) In his State of the Nation Address, popularly called “SONA”, the president highlighted his vision for Mindanao:

a> The first is to restore and maintain peace in Mindanao–because without peace, there can be no development.

b> The second is to develop Mindanao–because without development, there can be no peace.

c> The third is to continue seeking peace talks with the MILF within the framework of the Constitution–because a peace agreed upon in good faith is preferable to a peace enforced by force of arms.
d> And the fourth is to continue with the implementation of the peace agreement between the government and the Moro National Liberation Front, or MNLF–because that is our commitment to our countrymen and to the international community.

    (27) In addition to this the president said his administration can move with more speed in transforming Mindanao into a progressive economic center. High on the list of priorities was the plight of MILF guerrillas who were tired of fighting and had no camps left to report to.

a> On October 5, 2000 the first massive surrender of 669 MILF mujahideen led by the renegade vice mayor of Marugong, Lanao del Sur Malupandi Cosandi Sarip and seven other battalion commanders, surrendered to Pres. Erap at the 4th ID HQS. in Camp Edilberto Evangelista, Bgy. Patag, Cagayan de Oro city. They were followed shortly by a second batch of 855 surrenderees led by MILF Commander Sayben Ampaso on Dec. 29, 2000.

    (28) The impeachment suit was brought to the Senate and an impeachment court was formed, with Chief Justice Hilario Davide, Jr. as presiding officer. Estrada, pleading “not guilty”, called for two of the country’s leading lawyers to his side, former chief justice Andres Narvasa and Estelito Mendoza.

    (29) The impeachment trial took an unexpected turn when, on January 16, 2001, the court, whose majority were allies of Estrada, voted not to open a controversial envelope. This envelope was rumored to to contain incriminating evidence against the president and its opening would have decided the Estrada’s fate right there. The prosecution panel and the officials from the opposition walked out of the court in protest of the vote. Senator Aquilino Pimentel also resigned as Senate President to signify his objection to the turnout of the proceedings. The events fueled a three-day street protest.

    (30) On January 19, 2001, AFP chief Angelo Reyes joined the assembly at EDSA announcing that the 113,000-strong Armed Forces of the Philippines is withdrawing support from Estrada.

The next day, following Supreme Court’s declaration of vacancy of the presidential seat, the Chief Justice swore in the constitutional successor, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, as the acting President of the Philippines.

    (31) On May 1, 2001, the pro-Estrada protesters marched straight to the presidential palace chanting “EDSA III”. Violence soon erupted between the police and the protesters forcing the government to declared a State of Rebellion. The military was able to quell the rebellion but when the melee was over, the streets looked like a war zone – vans turned upside-down and tires set in fire. Many of Estrada’s supporters were arrested including politicians who allegedly provoked the unrest.

Pres. Erap launched at a star-studded event at the Rizal Park, the new millennium KKK, or Katipunanan Kontra Kahirapan, the President anti-poverty program.

According to the president, the new KKK will liberate 10 million Filipinos from poverty over the next five years. Around 6,000 people, whom critics dismissed as mere hakot, attended the launching of KKK.

The event marked the formal launching of the National Anti-Poverty Commission’s (NAPC) action plans to eradicate poverty. It was also a platform for the administration’s accomplishment report on poverty alleviation, which included:

    a> the launching of the Enhanced Retail Access for the Poor, or ERAP sari-sari stores, and the National Food Authority’s rolling stores;

    b> implementation of several programs on food security to ensure adequate food in areas stricken by the El Niño phenomenon;

    c> the rebound of the agriculture sector, and;
the forging of a food covenant among provincial governors which aims to ensure the country’s self-sufficiency in rice by 2001, corn by 2002 and fish by 2003.

d> Also part of the accomplishment report were:

    – the implementation of the livelihood programs in barangays through backyard enterprises;

    – a crackdown on criminal syndicates victimizing squatters, especially in Malabon and Navotas;
    the implementation of a campaign against illegal forms of fishing, and;
    – the release of P7.5 billion in low-interest credit for the poor.
In an interview, Presidential Assistant (PA) on Poverty Alleviation Donna Gasgonia, assured the Filipinos of better service with the KKK.

With NAPC’s annual budget of P2 billion, Gasgonia is sure they can make a difference in the lives of the poor. Specifically, the money will be used to finance the programs of the 14 basic sectors under NAPC, as well as the more popular “poverty alleviation for the 100 poorest in each province.” In a nutshell, this program serves as the “experimental” families for the NAPC to determine if indeed the government has alleviated the plight of the poor.

Quotes Against old odds! (Pres. Erap vs. Yellow Fever)

He is a survivor and has survived several baptisms of fire and is now steeled against any new challenges he may face.

He continues to retain the trust of his countrymen, as is proven in surveys, something that is necessary to get people’s confidence in and cooperation with his administration.

After 6 ½ years of detention when he did a lot of meditation, introspection, prayers and bible study, he has undergone the necessary purification and conversion which has brought him closer to God and has given him a fresh outlook in life and makes him better prepared to hold the reins of government.

He wouldn’t be a dictator. Having been unjustly charged and detained, he has walked in the shoes of the oppressed which provides him with the perspective to wield the sword of government with objective balance and restraint. He wouldn’t be dictatorial.

He is the only person who has demonstrated the political will to fight the MILF and NPA insurgencies. He captured 46 MILF camps and routed the secessionists. The AFP has now admitted that there have been about 60 bombings and clashes in Mindanao since January to the present.

In TV interviews, Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro has admitted heavy fighting with the MILF in Central and Southern Mindanao. The present situation validates the all-out-war policy that President Erap waged against the Muslim secessionists when he was President.

He will never agree to the creation of a Bangsa Moro state in Mindanao, in gross violation of the Constitution. If you continue a GMA administration, the MoA-AD will be revived.

The Real Erap! (Pres. Erap vs. Yellow Fever)

President Estrada, who is on his first official visit to the US, met with President Clinton at the White House last July 27 to tackle concerns that will help his administration give Filipinos a better deal in life.

Among these concerns was the plight of Filipino war veterans who, Mr. Clinton noted, “fought valiantly under US command to help achieve peace and freedom in the Pacific.”

The American President pointed out that for several years now, his administration has worked with members of Congress such as Reps. Bob Filner and Patsy Mink to give due recognition to the contributions of Filipino veterans and improve the compensation and other benefits of those living in the US.

For the last two sessions of Congress, President Clinton said, his administration has proposed legislation to eliminate the current dollar limitation for authorized compensation payments to Filipino beneficiaries residing in the US.

While the proposed legislation has not been enacted, President Clinton assured Mr. Estrada that the measure has his full support and expressed confidence that it will be passed soon.

U.S visit is defining moment for Erap presidency! (Pres. Erap vs.Yellow Fever)

NEW YORK CITY – The 10-day official working visit of Pres. Erap to the United States is shaping up into a watershed for his two-year administration, spelling welcome progress on bilateral concerns that set the tone for a more strategic partnership between these two longstanding allies into the 21st century.

A week into his US journey, Pres. Erapa has bagged Washington’s commitments on a wide gamut of issues ranging from:-

    1) the stalled modernization program of the AFP and the Muslim insurgency in the South to the plight of Filipino World II veterans and the possible remediation of contaminated sites that used to house American facilities.

    2) the visit resulted in over $100 million in aid for the Philippines, along with brighter prospects for fresh investments particularly in the new frontier of information technology (IT) where the Philippines has a competitive edge in the region.

    3) the most important, it has underlined Pres. Erap’s gravitas as an int’l player, blunting charges that he is not at par with Asia’s top leaders.

    4) In separate speaking engagements before top US business executives and Filipino-Americans, Pres. Erap drove home the message to his audience that the Philippine economy is on the rebound and is now a hot place for investment, particularly in e-commerce (electronic commerce) that has defined the world’s New Economy.

    5) in effect, led a roadshow for the country’s aggressive, new strategy to sell the Philippines to investors as the “IT services hub” of Asia, boasting a highly skilled, English-speaking young workforce considered among the world’s best IT managers and professionals.

    6) Pres. Erap has tapped, moreover, the US media – through interviews with such institutions as the Washington Post and the Cable News Network (CNN) – to put in the right perspective Philippine developments that have lately riveted the world’s attention, such as the Mindanao hostilities, Jolo’s hostage drama, the Payatas tragedy, and the true state of the domestic economy.

    7) As a result of this visit, Manila has secured an over $100 million military aid package from Washington, a development that augurs well for the revitalization of RP-US relations, which had somewhat been affected by the 1991 termination of the Americans’ lease on various installations, among them the Subic Bay Naval Facility and Clark Air Base.

The erstwhile Subic and Clark military facilities are now two of the country’s fastest growing special economic zones. RP-US relations were enhanced anew last year with the Senate’s approval of the Visiting Forces Agreement (VFA), which President Estrada had endorsed to bring back joint military operations by Filipino and America soldiers, as well as port calls by US vessels.

    8) Pres. Erap to the West Coast to cap his July 24-August 5 journey with engagements in Los Angeles and a side trip to Seattle for a meeting with Microsoft honcho Bill Gates.

They also asked the Estrada administration to address the rampant illicit collection of toll fees and charges in the transport of forest and agriculture-based products. (20PNA138)

  106. Isa ako sa mga magdadasal na manalo si Noynoy I believe in him….

  107. On the contrary, Balweg. Whatever accomplishments you claim Erap had, they were clouded/diminished/spoiled by the usual ills of politicians in the country.

In fact, the country was cursed from day one he sat at the throne at the palace by the murky river because of his philandering, not that I’m trying to be “holier” than him, which BTW I can stand clean on Judgment Day.

The Bible is very explicit about that you know. No exemption to the rule, so the Bible say. Any violation of the Lord Above is and will be dealt with because God is the same today, yesterday and forever even when a lot many so-called religious forgets about that fact!!! 😛

  108. One thing that will not make the country better with Erap as president even if he is reformed as many claim is the impression left of him overseas.

In fact, he had hard time borrowing money to replenish the coffers emptied by his predecessors because of his so-called “association” with the Marcoses though unfoundd the rumor that he was a beneficiary of Martial Rule.

I should know. My friend at our Ministry told me how requests about the Japanese government’s reluctance to give in to requests for a state visit for him. Even when he attended the funeral of a Japanese government official, nobody wanted to talk to him about lending money for Philippine recovery then after the failure of the Aquino and Ramos administrations to make good use of Japan’s ODAs for the benefit of ALL Filipinos not just them officials fattening their pockets.

When the invitation was issued, it was too late. The Kulimbat had started her campaign against Erap via Mrs. Aquino and her group including the ever sinful Cardinal Sin! It was the Kulimbat who finally did grab that invitation, too.

I doubt that Erap would be able to make do if he is elected by the millions of fans he claims he still has. It will be history repeating itself for old habits don’t die!!!

    I don’t think

  109. Oppps, putol. I repeat, it will be better for Erap to just conintue doing movies but not the kind that he is embarking now just to win his fans again. He should do documentaries, and then, slapsticks only once in a while! 😛

  110. As for Noynoy, i-prove muna niya ang sarili. Then, I will size him up. I won’t depend on publicity, especially by his publicity agents, et al.

Tungkol naman doon sa sinasabing walang business si Erap sa US, I doubt. Vera files may try to dig into rumors that some of the Philippine supermarkets in California, for instance, are owned by Erap and family like the one in Union City long rumored as Erap’s.

It’s OK naman if the money did not come from the country’s coffers.

Bakit?

Sources in the Estrada camp told the Tribune yesterday that he did try to reconcile with known civil socialites earlier, especially in 2007, during the season of the senatorial elections when they approached him for help.

“Civil society leaders went to him, lobbying for the inclusion in his opposition ticket of their candidates. Even Cory asked Erap to include Noynoy as a senatorial bet and to endorse him. After they got what they (elites) wanted, they were back to demonizing him,” the sources said.

Cory Aquino, however, publicly apologized to Estrada for having joined the coup against him, even as her son, Noynoy, quickly attempted to quash his mother’s apology by saying that Cory meant the apology as a “joke.”

  141. From Rick Gamboa:

There is much euphoria about Noynoy Aquno’s presidential intentions. This demonstrates the stupidity of the Filipino people, in seeking a true leader of the Philippines.

In 1986, the Filipinos had staged the Edsa Drama, which resulted to nothing, but the continuity of the old breed of corrupt politicians, and existence of new breed of hungrier & more corrupt ones.

Perhaps, the Philippines does not need another leader from the breed of self-serving and corrupt politicians, who’ve been ransacking the Philippines and disrespecting the Filipino people for so many decades. They had converted the Philippines into a seemingly miserable place for the citizens, considering that millions are moving out somewhere, even with high level of risks.

With the continued presence of these breed of corrupt politicians in the government, the Philippines would be continuously running in circle, with its future in Limbo.
Unless there is really a New Beginning, there is continued progression of Graft & Corruption in the Philippines that will eventually pollute the environment & atmosphere, and put the Filipino people in extreme miseries and poverty.

  142. andres andres

Still a big NO for Noynoy!!!

Look at the persons behind him, they are all part of the evil society who are all self-righteous piece of shits. They are likewise part of the elite sector which has caused so much trouble for this country which started when they installed Gloria Arroyo in 2001.

And now they are claiming to be opposition to the person they put in power?

  143. It will be recalled that in 2001, those at the forefront of the ouster of Estrada were largely LP members, led by Franklin Drilon, along with Sen. Rodolfo Biazon and Sen. Tito Guingona, among others. The late President Corazon Aquino and her son, were also at the forefront of the coup d’etat, along with the Catholic bishops and Makati businessmen.

From this link, the term coup d’ etat is defined:

    http://www.wordiq.com/definition/Coup_d%27etat

A coup d’état, or simply a ‘coup’, is the sudden overthrow of a government, usually done by a small group that just replaces the top power figures. It is different from a revolution, which is staged by a larger group and radically changes the political system. The term is French for “a sudden stroke, or blow, of a nation”.

Erap’s ouster was a case of coup d’etat. It can never be defined as a revolution as his ouster was brought about by a small group of military officials coopted by Mike Arroyo. AT least, this was how Mike Arroyo made it appear as he recounted his EDSA Dos participation to Nick Joaquin.

What you call evil society’s participation was merely to assemble along EDSA to express grievances against a government deemed to be corrupt. If we see that assembly in EDSA in January 2001 as a mistake, why must we call for people to fill the streets and cry out against Gloria? If it were a mistake in 2001, how can it be right in 2005?

And please, do not point us out to erap.ph in presenting Erap’s accomplishments as facts. For all we know, these accomplishments may, indeed, be facts. But coming from such a source, baka maging hindi kapanipaniwala.
