Handlers move to stem drop in Noynoy ratings

‘Non-trapo’ campaign to be reviewed

by Wendell Vigilia
Malaya

What went wrong?

The amalgamation of ideas from various civil society, politicians and volunteers has caused an internal “struggle of perspective” in Sen. Noynoy Aquino’s presidential campaign, according to Liberal Party campaign manager Florencio “Butch” Abad.

A discussion on how Aquino’s presidential campaign is being run by his political strategists and handlers came in the wake of a drop in his approval rating and a sudden rise in that of Sen. Manuel Villar of the Nacionalista Party.

The latest Pulse Asia survey showed Aquino with 37 percent against the 35 percent of Villar who has bombarded the television industry with “his millions, or probably billions, worth of advertisements.”

“I’m sure there was a struggle of perspective on how to run the campaign,” he said in an interview in ANC’s “Strictly Politics.” “That’s the nature of the animal (the new LP).”

Abad, former Batanes representative and education secretary, said that during one of their brainstorming meetings a few months ago, one of the “purists” in the group even went as far as starting a debate on whether Aquino should place political advertisements in media.

“We should understand that there are purists who come from the ranks of non-conventional NGO groups (in the LP),” he said. “Many people who want to help are non-traditionalists and un-conventional who are entering a conventional arena (election).”

One of the known LP members from civil society is former social welfare secretary Corazon “Dinky” Soliman who, along with Abad and other key officials, defected from the Arroyo administration in 2005.

Abad said the conservatives thought there was no need for Aquino to engage in a traditional political campaign because it was a “people’s campaign and they will go out of their way (for Noynoy).”

He said the idea did not sit well with pragmatic politicians and when Villar “revved up” his campaign through a storm of advertisements and the use of TV personalities, they knew there was something wrong with the direction they were bringing the campaign to.

The former congressman said the sudden surge in Villar’s rating prompted them to review their objectives, Last Sunday, they spent the day focusing on how Aquino’s anti-graft and corruption message will be better sent across.

“We are in the process of focusing and sharpening our message in terms of translation, visuals and language,” he said.

Abad also disclosed that a new TV campaign ad will soon come out, focusing on what the Filipino people should expect to get if they vote for Aquino.

“We’ll clarify the message like when we vote for Noynoy, this is what it means…that’s the kind of emotional connection we want (to achieve),” he said.

Abad also dismissed Villar’s anti-poverty campaign, saying it is only an offshoot of a societal disease which is graft and corruption.

While Aquino does not micromanage his campaign, Abad said, his sisters led by Kris are regularly being consulted by party leaders on matters concerning fund disbursements and image packaging.

Abad said since they need someone to run their communications division fully time, Yolly Ong was replaced by Maria Montelibano who, at first, was just helping the LP in the field.

He said they have also agreed to zero in on the grassroots level by rallying their local government counterparts to help them in the provinces and far-flung towns which are being capitalized on by both Villar and Gilbert Teodoro, the administration standard-bearer.

Abad, however, said that while the “euphoria” caused by former President Corazon Aquino’s death may have already settled down, he does not believe that the “Cory magic” has waned.

The former Arroyo ally said they trust in the wisdom of the Filipino people in choosing Noynoy for not being a corrupt politician. “That (message) resonates so strongly,” he said.

“We’ll not lose. I don’t think so. We’ve been leading from the start and we still are despite everything that has been thrown at us, including the kitchen sink,” he said.

Sen. Francis Pangilinan, campaign manager of the LP senatorial slate, said they have divided the 12 into two groups – the “anti-corruption” and the “anti-poverty” team.

Former Senate President Franklin Drilon leads the anti-corruption team along with Bukidnon Rep. Teofisto Guingona III, Akbayan party-list Rep. Risa Hontiveros, detained former Brig. Gen. Danilo Lim, lawyer Alexander “Pinoy” Lacson, and women and Muslim rights advocate Jasmin Busra-Lao.

The anti-poverty team is led by former senator and socio-economic secretary Ralph Recto who is joined by former Bukidnon congressman Neric Acosta, Muntinlupa Rep. Ruffy Biazon, Sonia Roco, Dr. Martin Bautista, and former senator Sergio Osmeña III.

The LP camp criticized Villar, saying his “dismal attendance record” at the Senate showed his “priority of ambition above service.”

Spokesman Edwin Lacierda said Villar “should be the last person to speak on the issue of competence and service toward country.”

“His Senate record clearly shows that of all the senators, he has the worst attendance record. What kind of competence does Villar boast about when he was only present in 15 Senate sessions? And of those sessions, he was late 12 times, while his colleagues burned the midnight oil over important matters of state,” Lacierda said.

That’s the problem of expecting from the people too much. The spirit of Ninoy and Cory have no direct effect to the real spirit of Noynoy. Not sure if he can lead the country. With Noynoy’s personality and still single at 50? that will tell me that Noynoy really did not want to run for the presidency and don’t like to take a bigger responsibilities. Noynoy was told to run. The decision was not coming from him but by the many people who are still willing to sell their votes.

It’s going to be an interesting wowowee election!!!!

  2. Al Al

Hindi pala umubra ang “good versus evil”.

Trapo campaign lang naman pala ang bagsak. At least klaro.

  4. Villar has spent 3B+ already, willing to go as high as 6B…at the back of my mind I fear Villar will win, most Filipinos are easily swayed by commercials, movies, celebrity endorsers, and money…too bad…really…
…Bong Revillas leading in the senate race? what do we expect, we’re a country that worships actors/actresses, some people even question the church mnore than these “pretend” people (thats why they’re called actors)…Villar is just capitalizing on these weaknesses…

  5. Their fault is primarily in not recruiting New Faces and New Names, however obscure, to join the party.

It would have been a very strong message for Real Change.

The name Aquino would have negated the unpopularity of the New Recruits.

Good for them, though. The Aquinos, like the Estradas, etc. don’t deserve to be in any office.

  6. But who’s your choice Sumpit?
    Any idea?

The problem with the campaign team of the Nonoy-Mar tandem is that, it’s mostly comprised of elite group. Who would believe this elitist group, they are the same group who removed the duly elected president in 2001 and are now crying “Wolf”!

Next, they rely too much of the so called “cory magic” (no disrespect to the president) sad to say it only works when the late president passed away, after that what happened? The other candidates are spending money for their campaign ads, but the Nonoy-Mar tandem is not.

I read in one of the news prints today, that they are riding on the “People Power” to propel the tandem to win the election, but not spending. My question to this elitist, where are the money contributions going?

I suggest to the people around the tandem to read the column of Lito Banayo for them to find out how deep the camp of money villarroyo is and learn from that.

The most important thing is the LP should removed the “elitist tag” and the elitist people around them or they will surely lose this game.

Enough of these elitists who only think of themselves!

= Rose

    What mandate?

  11. Mike Mike

If you are talking of those people encouraging him run as “mandate”, then the other candidates will also claim that the people who encourage them to run are also their mandate.

  12. Coy:

    Elections are held to:

    1. project the notion that you have a voice and share the power to chart the nation’s future, aka democracy;

    2. periodically pacify growing dissent with renewed promises of a better tomorrow.

When elections are over, we’re back to the same old reality.
    _______________

IF we can rid ourselves of politics or religion (both are the same), that’s the time when we can be truly civilized.

I’ve been studying about the root cause of all these. What i’ve found are the ff:

    1. Vatican is responsible for all the ills of our society. It is in fact, the most evil of all.

It’s responsible for the installation of dictators and the removal of good ones. All genocides (Germany, Ireland, Vietnam, etc.) and depopulation mechanisms (SARS, AIDS, FLU, etc.) are all done for the glory of Rome.

Remove the Vatican from the equation, and you will see Heaven. Tall order, of course, because…

    2. The people are so dumb, they just don’t love what it is doing, they even worship it.

There’s none of these politicians that’s brave enough to stand up against the Vatican. None.

But if you want to be entertained, go ahead and vote. But don’t expect any change coming, ’cause you’ll be extremely frustrated.

    Hope i answered your question.

Noynoy don’t need complicated strategies to redirect the course of his campaign for real CHANGE nor get intimidated by his adversaries with billions for TV and radio ads, and paid hack and propagandist twisting facts about the real condition of our country, himself and his family’s legacy.

Being true to his words to fight for “Good Governance”, all he needs to do is send the word and call on the people to rally with him hand in hand for real change, tunay na LABAN sa abusadong systema at pamunuan, and many will come!

    A lot of good comments.

But the problem is/are the handlers of both Noynoy and Mar, I believe in them (Noynoy-Mar), there’s no problem about that. But those so called handlers belonging to the so called civil society? geeeezzzz….. they are the ones who remove a duly elected president, then they are also the one who wanted to removed their installed president and threathen to the vice president for not supporting hteir call for the removal of gloria. And now projecting themeselves as conscience of the people???

By the way Rose, it is wrong to assume that Noynoy has a mandate from the people as president (not yet). You mentioned Trillanes, he was, as a matter of fact was mandated by the people to serve in the senate. with gen lim, it is still too early to say, because like trillanes, he is also detained.

Mike is correct to say that all candidates are mandated by those people who want them to run.

Finally, my point here is/are the hypocrites behind the Noynoy-Mar tandem.

You also mentioned, if that is God’s will, let it be done, yes you are correct, but not to the point of abusing their authority like this administration, the very same group who installed her as (illegal) president are the same ones who called for her to resign.

    Geeezzzz… the height of hypocrisy!!!!!!

Let’s give the government back to the people not only to the elitist.

  15. I truly agree with you Sumpit.

However, whether we like it or not we need to elect these people to control our lives for better or worst. Without them we are like a lost platoon wandering in the jungle with no leader to command.Laws and rules will not be enforced,we become uncivilized in a chaotic society, only the strong survive. We might go back in the Stone Age of Barok and Gundina and that’s scary.

Villar has everything it takes to win, vast resources, well entrenched connections, the support of Gloria, he has the best campaign strategists money can buy, the best celebrity endorsers, the primetine slots, the best researchers, writers, and we have an aging ex president who swallowed his pride accepted a bribe (pardon) as he is in the habit of doing, allowed himself to be used as a pawn to split the opposition votes, and allowed himself to be made a pitiful laughing stock in public forums (lost his pride altogether).
There are indications that Erap has already struck a deal with Villar, they already arrived at the right numbers (Php), what is interesting will be the timing…

Its not funny anymore, the Erap jokes have lost their luster, its pitiful…so pitiful…

    1. Vatican is responsible for all the ills of our society. It is in fact, the most evil of all….SumpPit

Rothschild was used by Vatican to fund the World War I and II, Bolshevik revolution, civil wars in Europe, etc…..

Former NBC news president Rubin Frank, who should know about these things said: “News is what someone wants to suppress. Everything else is advertising.” Senior vice president and Washington bureau chief for CNN, Frank Sesno confirms the arrogance of these self-appointed arbiters of the Truth “We tell the people what they need to know, not what they want to know.” Richard Salent, the former President CBS News was also part of this agenda tells us unabashedly that: “Our job is to give people not what they want, but what we decide they ought to have.”

Alfred Harmsworth, later Lord Northcliffe, was the British newspaper tycoon who invented modern tabloid journalism. In 1896 he launched the Daily Mail, which was the first British mass daily aimed at the new mass literate readership appearing in Britain….Northcliffe obviously knew a thing or two about journalism and the “group mind.” A knowledge summed up by this: “News is what someone, somewhere is trying to suppress, the rest is just advertising.”

Of crimes against humanity (1955) That Pope Pius XII and Jesuit Superior General Jean-Baptiste Janssens did financial support and lobby for the election of staunch Catholic President Ngo Dinh Diem as President of South Vietnam in 1955. That upon being elected, the Catholic Church promoted Diem as a Catholic dictator in persecuting Buddhism and all non-catholic interests. That in 1958, the Catholic Church did then arrange an agreement
With Ho Chi Minh(of North Vietnam) that the Catholic Church would not oppose him if he invaded the South and that all money earnt from the drug trade would be split more equitably on the condition of protecting French Catholic families and their land holdings managing the opium farms of the Jesuits. That these deliberate actions did ferment the conditions Vietnam War. Furthermore, upon the commencement of guerilla actions against the South, the Catholic Church through the CIA did convince the American government to support the Catholic South. That upon the election of John F. Kennedy as President, Cardinal Spellman did convince him to escalate the military support of the United States. That as a result of these deliberate actions of the Catholic Church, over 2,000,000 were killed, including over 50,000 US casualties.

Noynoy’s character is so weak; he is no decision-maker, he doesn’t know when to get tough, firm and strong that he can’t even decide what to do with his opportunist relatives who are all speaking on both sides of their mouths as pro-Gloria and pro-Noynoy.

Noynoy has no answer when Hacienda Luisita was described as the Palestine in the Philippines where for so many years the (Palestinians) poor farm workers were denied (their own independent state) the agreed ownership, abused and even massacred.

Noynoy is afraid to face the issues against him, the gratis construction of SCTEX for the exclusive use his family, his accomplishments as congressman and senator.

He’s so naïve or even stupid if he believes that by saying that he is “honest”,” hindi siya magnanakaw”, “hindi siya corrupt”, people will just take his words as gospel truth and believe him. Maybe some like his blind supporters but people are not that naïve and stupid as he and his elitist and snobbish handlers presumed. They only show their lack of respect for people especially the poor. All politicians say anything to win votes and he is no exception. The thing that matters is show proofs of what you claimed to be. And so far in any terms he failed.

It’s not surprising that his numbers are going down. All he has shown so far are the remnants of Gloria’s boys and girls, pictures of his parents, his rapping and the reminiscent of people power, which has nothing to do with governing 90 million people.

these are goals currently on the making and must be achieved by the new administration regardless of who will sit as president. Noynoy’s anticorruption policy is not new. There are 8 goals with a total of 18 key areas that we must demand from our leader to govern and deliver result.

(ehem, excuse me po!)

– florry

Noynoy on ” he will not steal” and ” he will distribute HL in 2014″

Both promises can be interpreted as stealing. LYING ADVERTISEMENTS breaks 8th commandment. A person becomes a thief when a promise of paying dividends to the farmers is returning zero. It does not excuse him regardless of his minority ownership. A man who promise to transfer his property to the farmers just before he becomes president is a thief in the sight of God.

distribute HL? why not distribute now or yesterday? does he need to be president first before he can do it, or at least, initiate it?

How do you guys define stealing?

  70. Personally I don’t subscribe to this “take land from the rich and give it to the poor” bit. It sounds more “commie” to me than anything else, these farmers won’t even know how to manage these farms properly if they had them and will just be a waste of good land…why are so hung up on being beggars? or worst, behaving as if the world owes us a living? Why not manage the hacienda properly, give due compensation to these farmers, access to education, healthcare, etc. Is this piece of land even productive?
If noynoy’s numbers went down (survey lang yun), then so be it, those who faltered (and changed their minds) were never truly for him anyway, there’s a long way to go before May.
Villar, even with his billions only managed to catch up with Noynoy? billions?
The Filipinos must once and for all be just that – Filipinos, one nation, one people, one direction, united in a common aspiration, and not split in A, B, C, D, E to Z. Why are there people still so caught up in fomenting class war, conflict between rich and poor, masa and elista, wake up people we’re being “divided and conquered” here and we embrace it with self pity and burning hatred/envy/despise in our hearts for who? – fellow Filipinos?
…there will always be rich people and poor people for as long as our intensities of motivation vary, there will always be greater and lesser persons than ourselves, why allow ourselves to be emotionally-led-by-the-noses (like cattle) by people with dark motives, I will never understand…why we listen to those who pretend to be masa, who talk endlessly of “pagpag” when they themselves haven’t even touched the stuff let alone eat it?
Why be turned off by so called “elitista?” they speak the same language, eat rice, drink water, bleed red blood, sleep, laugh, etc…why some people would hate it when they see others doing better off when they have the option to feel otherwise? and some are encouraging this…enough already!

Issues against Noynoy are not only HL or mga kamaganak and don’t wish for more baka lalong bumaba ang rating niya.

What we are looking for and most important are leadership ability and administrative skills. He has not proven anything yet in his years in congress and senate. He doesn’t even know his ground and where he stands.

The presidency is not a joking matter and it’s not a place for on-the-job training. Its importance is paramount for the future and if we have to put somebody up there, he must do the job and not to learn. The future can be best secured with the reins in the most capable hands, strong decisive leadership and proven experience. With the country drowning with problems we can not afford to engage on a hit or miss approach. The approach should be a result-oriented solution and this could only be done by the strong and never by a weakling mama’s boy.

It’s not being mean and to prove it, if ANYONE among Noynoy’s supporters here in this blog or anywhere else can cite ANY outstanding achievement that shines a light for the Filipinos in his entire LIFETIME, I will praise him to high heavens and humbly submit my support for his candidacy.

Agree if we are in a “normal” condition. Unfortunately, we’re not! Gloria has those skill. But have those skills been effectively used for the good of our country? The answer is a big NO, of course! Why? coz she lost or don’t have the most important “skill”, the good character.

How can you become a good leader if you don;t have a good character?

Kailngan nating maging good example or good model hindi ba?

Ah, don’t get the drift? The fact that u can’t cite any particualr scandal that is personally linked to Aquino is the biggest achievement of all! You see, this is precisely the problem when we put the frontrunners under the microscope. Aquino, who has no dirt whatsoever clinging to him is dismissed as boring, inconsequential and tagged as a wimp, indecisive. Alas, the likes of Erap and Villar, with all sorts of ‘libag’ on their personalities are idolized as macho, masipag, matiyaga, leaders. Yeah, but for the wrong reasons. You see, we have always complained about the culture of corruption as that festering malady that has long devoured the nation’s soul. Children who started early in their lives in petty thievery soon would find themselves involved in serious crimes like murder. That’s how it is, kaibigang Florry. Children who started early in their lives in petty thievery soon would find themselves involved in serious crimes like murder by henry90

exactly… as I wrote here earlier to ellen:

On Manny Villar’s campaign AD on TV. Children are used and it’s manipulative to the feelings of the voting public. Portraits of a candidate with his children or grandchildren will help to establish him as a “family man.” But the representation of anonymous or “real” but unrelated children can also play on a number of powerful emotions, including fear, anxiety, and hope for the future. Money Villar oversimplify concerns by stimulating emotions with extreme predictions about the future of our children that are based on short-lived or misleading information. Manny is most likely trying to indicate that children will not be safe in a country controlled by his opponent?

Is it legal? Not to me, I can interpret it as exploitation of children’s privacy especially if there’s no formal written parental consent. The abuse of lawlessness and the lack of legislation to protect the children’s privacy is not only of legal debate but of moral and ethical values. The use of children’s impressions is a violation of their right to privacy.

I have never understood the point of using children as trained symbols in political ads. Traditionally, children’s ad is more appropriate for school-related issues or initiatives. It appears to me that this is fundamentally de facto juvenile abuse. Looking at it differently also , it is primarily uncompensated child labor where paid child labor would be illegal. How can the adult voters by any means translate this in a positive way? In what manner the use of small children in political advertising says that the people behind or is being advertised either could not find a compelling adult to be in their ad, which is something you would think they would prefer to keep under wraps. Money Villar may have thought that voters are truly so pathetic that they would base their choices on misleading ad thru exploitation of children.

The children are the hope of our Nation. They should not be subject nor should be allowed to participate thru the BS of politics. They are too young. They should stay home, go to school and play…

Between Noynoy and Villar? no way jose. Noynoy is not the one for this country, either. Filipinos in general are honest and good people. I don’t disagree with you on child exploitation. What do you expect to the kinds of people who do this! Reality is, we have to elect a president this May and choices are but limited to the ones running for this office. In the end of the day, it will be a choice between the two leading contenders, either Noynoy or Villar. Maybe three, if Estrada can make it to 30% plus standing. Problem in Philippines, unlike in US where you are, most US politicians adhere to the rule of law and more likely police themselves. In our country, it is the opposite, if I can sum it up this way. So given the choices and understanding that there is no ideal candidate, I’ll rather support the one who can lead by example. One who will depend and adhere to our laws to include the promotion of good governance so that programs related to jobs, infrastructure, food security, etc. can be successfully implemented and for other to follow! I’ve seen what other candidates had accomplish without naming names and in my opinion does things for the wrong reasons using the public office. No need for further clarification as the results can be seen wide in the open. So knowing what I know now and given the limited choices, it must be Noynoy and I’m thankful he took the challenge!

Contrary to many people’s beliefs, it’s not that hard running this country. Armed with even the most basic of college education, any person. given the proper motivation, can run the affairs of the state. The problem is, we are trying to impose so many unnecessary qualifications on those running for public office when actually, there should be only one: Integrity. We tend to equate competence with eloquence in public speaking and the numerous titles after the family names yet, here we are, still in the dark ages even with those so-called technocrats, economists, Harvard-trained lawyers who only succeeded in burying us in deep shit. Look at the Japs. Their Prime Minister doesn’t speak fluent english when he speaks in UN, APEC, etc but look at Japan. They dont tolerate stealing, lying or cheating.
Erap could have been a good president even if he was a college drop-out. His long years in local government could have been enough to make him understand running the affairs of the state instead of his extra-marital affairs. He didnt have to be bright, that’s why he had a Diokno at Budget and a coterie of top rate advisers and cabinet secretaries to help him in the first place. But no, he instead splurge on expensive wine and fine dining and stayed up late playing mahjong while starlets are waiting for him to get laid in the BRP Ang Pangulo, the presidential yacht. He could have made us proud of him. Instead, he made us boot him out of office. Are we sorry that we booted him out? No. But we are sorry that Gloria replaced him. Do we had a choice then? No. She was next in the line of succession. Let that be very clear. Sayang si Erap. He had his chance and he blew it.

Maybe all of us here have different interpretation or understanding of the word “Achievement”. Maybe we should all look up a dictionary to get the real meaning of the word.

I can’t see how a silent Noynoy just sitting down and warming his chair achieve something significant just by warming his ass. Ibang klaseng achievement ito, bagong definition of the word, should go into the dictionary.

I can’t see how not finding a scandal attached to a Noynoy is said to be considered an achievement just because he is not involved in any anomaly.(which I doubt) Another new kind of achievement should go to the book of records.

Based on the above “achievements” what contributions or effect did it impact into the general public and into the country?

We are talking of Noynoy’s achievement as a public official or as a private citizen and that’s what I am asking for. Did he author or file any bill that was signed into law in congress or senate to help alleviate the poor conditions of the people or something to that effect? As of now there’s nothing that I know of.

Maybe Noynoy’s supporters can’t accept the fact that his performance as a public official is less than desirable, at best is mediocre. Oh yeah only the blind can’t see.

Now the burden of proof on his leadership qualities solely depends on him. He has to prove to one and all that he is not just the ACCIDENTAL candidate brought about by the passing away of his mother, that reminds me of the crying dumbo jumbo Drilon who said and I quote: “Noynoy is not yet ready for the presidency” Coming from his most ardent supporter defender and senatorial candidate, it’s hard not to believe.

And most of all he has to prove that he got what it takes to lead a country with 90 million people and on the brink of bankruptcy financially and morally.

The onus is on him to prove beyond reasonable doubt.

  95. I’m pretty sure florry has been away from the country far too long…
The way this country works, you have to be one of the boys, you have to dance with wolves, otherwise how can you get support for your projects, most have bent over offering their behinds for the sake of their constituents. If you’re a newbie in a government department somewhere, especially where business licenses are concerned, first day you get an envelop of crisp 1000Php bills, if you don’t accept it, say goodbye to your career as you’ll be the odd one out.
DOn’t you get it? Bot to dance with these wolves is a gargantuan achievement in itself, not even VIllar, Gibo, or other wanabes could ever do…
Which great achievement are you referring to? the C5 issue or the seemingly inept SND who tolerated (and armed) the Ampatuans? wow, I’m amazed, you have very high standards! You must come from another planet, U-RANUS?
The problem with you is that you put to much stock in THE PRESIDENT will singlehandedly solve all our ills, become the miracle worker that will elevate the Philippines from its current situation – NO! It will take a COLLECTIVE effort, we all have to pitch in to make some changes around here…but we can’t do that if we don’t clean up first, starting with the presidency!
Have you tried authoring bills? Are you familiar with how you need to have them passed, if you have administration people with virtual monopoly, do you think any bill that will endanger their interests will pass? Come on florry, get real here…I thought you were intelligent? what are you, 5 years old?

  96. Oopsm I meant “not” to dance with these wolves…

  97. florry florry

It’s really hard to believe that people supposed to be in their right frame of minds, with intelligence can be so naive, dumb and stupid to believe everything and every word that comes from the mouth of politicians.

Why? What do you think, Noynoy is not a politician? He is as trapo as the others. Why? Because those who take their pork barrel spend it or keep it are trapos. Those who engage in compromises, wheeling and dealing are trapos and he is no different.

When he said he is honest, you people said check; and when he said he will not steal, check and that’s it.

The way this country works, you have to be one of the boys, you have to dance with wolves, etc… – Jug

Maybe I agree with you but the thing is how can a country succeed if we always do it the old and usual way. That’s a defeatist attitude. Giving up without even trying. That’s why we need to elect a president with strong leadership qualities with a vision to discard the old and usual ways and change to a better way. If we always do the usual old way, then the country will always be the same old way – No progress, no future and always be the basket case of Asia and maybe the world.

  99. olan olan

That’s why we need to elect a president with strong leadership qualities with a vision to discard the old and usual ways and change to a better way. – florry

You seems to know better than everyone here. Who do you have in mind if I may ask?

  100. florry florry

My goodness, Jug, what is my business in authoring bills. Ask Noynoy, not me.

And yes, the recipe for success is collective effort. I have no quarrel with that. When you say collective effort that means we need a leader, a strong leader that can command respect, know how to delegate authority and of course knows what he is doing and that leader is the President.

So what qualities of a leader you have in mind to be voted as president? The qualities of Noynoy? Do you think so? It’s YOU who said that when he gets excited he is like a child affected with “downs syndrome”. And if I may add, when he gets excited, awed and shocked, time will stand still, eyes staring blank and mouth wide open. That description is something to describe what you call a child’s affected with “downs syndrome”. I just want to make it CLEAR that it’s not from me. Isn’t that embarrassing? Do you want a child-like that to be your president?

Then think again, who in this situation is the 5-year child?

  101. florry,
I apololize to Noynoy for that remark. I admit it, I was one of those very critical of him before. I was also looking for a strong, visionary, statesman before (even now). I was really inclined in voting for Villar, not only was his credentials picture perfect on paper, personally, his demeanor is also presidentiable, I see him having lunch or coffee sometimes just right across our table in the hotel…and one of his pr people, a friend of mine is the type you will have a hard time saying no to, pretty, smart, eloquent, and a figure to die for – good thing I’m married already so I have this invisible amulet…
…but I was wrong, I was focused more on appearance and not on the real issues, on pettiness mostly. Lets face it, Noynoy is not really a poster boy for presidency…but thats just it, what do we really need? what do we really want? coupled with talks from fellow businessmen, bankers, etc., Villar’s reputation is quite colorful in these circles…
Believe me, if by an act of God, Lacson will be back in the running again, I’d shift without batting an eyelash but for now, Noynoy is the one who would do the least damage, more inclined to respect our institutions, less inclined to hide behind technical legalities, and allow our institutions and businesses to repair and strengthen themselves without undue selfish intervention on his part…
Noynoy is the boy-next-door, nerd looking, quiet, classmate you don’t tend to notice much type, but normally these guys usually grow up to be the more reliable employees, no flash, someone you can trust to look after things trustworthily while you fix things…
…and we need to do a lot of fixing…

  102. chi chi

I’d rather vote for someone who didn’t insert billions of pesos in the budget to pay for his personal business project — one who is diametrically opposed to Villar. I think in a sense, that’s an outstanding performance. – Anna

    Approve! Good one, Anna.

    Olan,

I am always home every once a year. I was just there december til 3 weeks ago. How can a boy next door type like Noynoy manage the problem of this country. You have senators and the house who are corrupt. Noynoy is not an expert of the law even experience in business , or leading a group of people or even basic finance.

Corruption is the consequence of countless non -transparent transactions. It can also be the result of the lack of know-how in public money management. Noynoy passing a bill without single approval from the House? How can he lead this country?

The national budget is after all funded by the people, 1. through TAXATION which enacts people’s existing resources for the undertakings of its government, or through 2. BORROWINGS which entrusts tomorrow generation’s resources for the government’s strategic development needs.
Noynoy’s policy on taxation is too basic and it’s only a component in public money management. Maybe this government must put emphasis on expenditures for human and social development over and above debt servicing for example. Decreasing taxation is just another LIE and it’s not even the solution.
Voter’s education is one key. And going back…if Cory, in whose honor we should be voting for Noynoy, was a great President, then she should have made her people more intelligent , educated voters and critical so that they wouldn’t have voted for Erap and GMA but look where we are now, and once again, where we’re heading.

Voting for Noynoy will set this country even backward.

  105. andres andres

The problem with civil society and Noynoy’s supporters is arrogance. If Cory publicly apologized to Erap for Edsa Dos, most are just too proud to admit their mistake. How can we learn from a mistake and a disaster when there is no admission?

Not until these people swallow their pride can we have realization.

If they did not overthrow a legitimately elected president, we wouldn’t have the karma we have now, that is GMA!

  106. henry90 henry90

Wrong assumption. We are not sorry for Erap’s banishment from the presidency. Yes, we are sorry na buwisit yung pumalit. What u dont realize or perhaps refuse to realize is that way back then, Glue is the VP and she was next in the line of succession. Even Madame Auring did not foretell na mas impakta pa pala tong Gloria na to kaysa sa laksitibong si Erap. So, klaro. Patulog-tulog kasi tong idol nyo.
Nuff said. Nakakakulele na sa tenga. Yellow fever wannabe, elitista, Obesseppo. etc. Corny na masyadado pre.

  107. andres andres

    henry90,

  111. andres andres

Bakit kaming makamasa, mas marunong rumispeto kaysa sa mga tulad mong supposed to be learned?

. .lol
