The hand of Malacañang, particularly Gloria Arroyo’s husband, Mike Arroyo, is obvious in the “Wanted” posters for Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson.
The “Wanted” photos were posted along Roxas Boulevard by members of the Volunteers against Crime and Corruption along Roxas Boulevard last Wednesday despite the fact that the issuance of the arrest warrant is still being questioned before the Supreme Court.
VACC is headed by Dante Jimenez, who left the original anti-crime group, Crusade Against Violence.
I retrieved a 2001 opinion piece by Jimenez in the Philippine Star Ngayon which spoke enthusiastically of Arroyo joining the VACC as volunteer lawyer.
Here it is:
“Kaugnay nito, ikinararangal ko at ng VACC na tanggapin ang ‘‘First Gentleman’’ na si Atty. Jose Miguel T. Arroyo, bilang isa sa mga volunteer lawyers ng VACC. Naniniwala naman ako na sa kasalukuyang programa ng Arroyo administration ang magkaroon ng mga pagbabago sa ating sistemang pangkatarungan.
“Sa ngalan ng mga biktima ng krimen, malugod na tinatanggap ng VACC si Atty. Arroyo sa pag-asang matatamo nila ang katarungan sa kani-kanilang mga kalagayan. Mabuhay ka, Atty. Mike Arroyo!”

‘Wanted’ Lacson posters ‘shame campaign’

While the National Bureau of Investigation saw nothing wrong with the “Wanted” posters put up against Sen. Panfilo Lacson by an anticrime group, Senate Minority Aquilino Pimentel Jr. Wednesday criticized the move as “out of bounds.”
“This kind of posters tends to put in the minds of the people that you are guilty,” Pimentel said in a phone interview.
Lacson’s counsel, Alex Avisado, Wednesday described the VACC action as “just a shame campaign.”
“The [posters] serve no other purpose but to shame Senator Lacson and his family,” Avisado said in the Fernandina Media Forum at Club Filipino in Greenhills, San Juan City.
Lacson is not yet a fugitive from justice until the Supreme Court rules that the warrant for his arrest is valid, he said. The issuance of the warrant “is still being questioned,” he added.
Avisado said the possibility was slim for the senator to surrender as this would render his objection to the warrant moot and academic.
Lacson, who has been charged with the double murder of publicist Salvador “Bubby” Dacer and his driver, Emmanuel Corbito, had left the country on Jan. 5 to evade arrest and protect himself from an alleged “evil conspiracy” against him.
The senator denied any involvement in the killings and accused President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo of persecuting him for exposing many scandals involving her and First Gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo during her nine-year administration.
‘Wild Wild West’
On Tuesday, the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) began pasting photos of Lacson with the words “Wanted” and “double murder case” on walls along Roxas Boulevard in Manila.
Pimentel said authorities would be able to hunt for the senator without the help of those posters. These, he said, reminded him of Zane Grey’s novel “Wild Wild West,” in which sheriffs put up posters of outlaws.
“I have not seen the likes of that in years,” Pimentel said. He asked the VACC to “reconsider” its move.
“I don’t think they (VACC members) committed any violation,” said Edward Villarta, NBI spokesperson and chief of the agency’s National Capital Region.
“Maybe that’s their way of daring Lacson to come out and face the charges against him,” Villarta said. “They can even have it printed on newspapers, but I don’t see the need for that since the senator is already a known personality.”

Avisado reiterated his call to Manila Regional Trial Court Judge Myra Garcia Fernandez, who is handling the Dacer-Corbito case, to decline her nomination to the Court of Appeals, which came three days after she issued the arrest warrant on Feb. 5.
The timing of Fernandez’s nomination was suspicious, he said, and there would always be doubts that this could be a “reward” for issuing the warrant.
Avisado said Lacson was not expecting justice under the Arroyo administration. “If you’re an ally of the administration, your case will go to sleep. If you’re an enemy of the administration, your case will go through the express lane,” he said.
The lawyer said he last spoke with Lacson a day before the warrant was issued. He does not know the senator’s whereabouts, he said, and that his communication with him is “limited” as their phones had been bugged.
“But I doubt if the NBI does not really know where he is,” Avisado said.
On Monday, the NBI said it was checking leads that Lacson might now be in China or Taiwan after departing for Hong Kong. With a report from DJ Yap

Dante Jimenez was the a campaing manager of Gloria’s (I think); he purchased Manila Times for a song and then sold it to Mario Crespo, another friend of Gloria (and also of Erap.)
Dante Jimenez is not his real name — I think he’s of Chinese extraction. Not absolutely sure.

Crespo was served time in the US for tax fraud, came back to Pinas and ran for my friend’s seat in Manila.

With regards to Hubert Webb, I don’t think he is guilty of the crime (Vizconde massacre). Napaginitan si Senator Webb ng NBI coz pinakialaman niya yung kaso ng mga Indian drug traders who were in the custody of the NBI then and pinatakas. I think there were 12 of them Indian nationals. It was then Rep. Webb who asked for the investigation of the incident.

After Hubert was convicted. He found a way to keep himself in the news, left the Crusade against Violence and put Volunteers against Crime and Corruption, an Arroyo front organization. I actually mistook Dante Jimenez with Dante Ang. I believe the latter was the PR shithead of the Arroyo couple while Mark Jimenez was the ex-convict turned member of the house and close friend of another criminal Chavit Singson.
(Btw, Mark Jimenez was the yabang guy who would call in the Taipans in his house together to show off. He would then hold parties on his yacht with socialites (the real macoy pinay socialites) “paying them off with enormours presents” to entertain his friends. He used to take his yacht beside “Ang Pangulo” during Erap’s term and would taunt Erap to board [Jimenez] yacht and showing off the girls — Erap was decent enough not to climb on Jimenez/Crespo yacht every time it happened and just said, “If only I could…” 🙂

But if is truly Justice the authorities after, there is the so-called Trial in Absentia if they really have to try Lacson for the crimes he was implicated with…but they should bring everyone who were involved in the alleged crimes to court just the same as for sure, there were many.

I was with the Dacer children when their father was murdered. NBI Director Wycoco was helping them then and my full sympathy was for the orphaned children to be able to get justice for their father. The late NBI Director Wycoco was a fine man and he would probably be doing his best to get to the bottom of this if he were alilve.
However, I agree with Senator Pimentel that in our quest for justice we should always uphold due process. Senator Lacson is duly elected by the people and remains a member of the Philippine Senate. In fact, like Erap, his election is not tainted with corruption and election fraud. Where certain candidates for high office are reputed to be spending billions, I don’t remember Senator Lacson being associated with this kind of activity.
But I agree that he should be fully investigated as all those who are in any way related to the case. There are unresolved issues of properties attributed to him in the U.S., no different from properties attributed to the Arroyos in the U.S.
Those WANTED posters, however, are below the belt tactics and should be condemned. They are intended to demonize Lacson and convict him in the eyes of public opinion. That the Palace allows this is abominable.
It’s strange, but Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption are all praises for FG? There is a long list of corruption issues tied up with the Palace. Perhaps we should write VACC a formal letter and ask them what efforts they have done about these. When I have the time, I shall do so this week-end.
