Malaria no more: two Filipino students need your vote

Two Filipino students are among the six finalists in the essay writing division organized by Novartis and Malaria No More.
Now those two Filipino students, Jennel Cheng of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines and Maria Masa of the University of the Philippines ,need your vote.

Participants to the contest “The World Briefing: Telling the Malaria Story Contest”, were graduate students from the United States, Argentina, Ecuador, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, Venezuela, and the Philippines.

Organized by Novartis and Malaria No More, a non-governmental organization committed to ending malaria deaths in Africa, The contest aims to spread the word about the prevention and treatment of malaria, and help build the coalition to ease the global malaria burden.

To enter the contest, contestants developed a blog post of 500 words or less, in English, that focuses on the current malaria burden and ways in which their generation can make progress in the fight against malaria. They also developed a tweet, or sentence of 140 characters or less, explaining why they should win the contest.

Christine Liwanag,Corporate Affairs & Market Access Director Novartis Healthcare Philippines, Inc. announced: “We are pleased to inform you that two Filipino students are among the shortlisted finalists in the contest. They are Jennel Cheng of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines and Maria Masa of the University of the Philippines. Their entries are two of the three finalists selected from The Americas/Asia continent.”

There are also three finalists from the Europe continent.

Liwanag is appealing to everybody for votes for Jennel and Maria, and help either student win the contest.

“We would greatly appreciate it if you could ask your students, teachers and administration personnel to cast their vote for Jennel or Maria by logging on to http://worldbriefing.org/vote/ before June 25, 2010, which is the deadline for voting,” Liwanag said.

The top three winners will be sent on an all-expense paid trip to Zambia in Africa.

    Ang mananalo, baka gawing guinea pig ng Novartis sa Zambia. Joke.

    Sana pag-aralan rin nila yung lamok sa mga islands dito na tourist spots. Delikadong masira and tourism sa buong bansa. Yung anak ni Rey Langit, sa Palawan namatay sa malaria.
