Trust equals confidence

The latest survey of the Social Weather Station should encourage President Benigno Aquino III to be his own man and assert his leadership as influence groups exert pressure on him, some out of a genuine desire to help him and others to push their own agenda.

The survey conducted June 25 to 28, a few days before Aquino’s inauguration as the country’s 15th president, showed that 88 per cent of adult Filipinos said they have much trust on him while only four percent said had little trust in him. Eight per cent were undecided.

Vice President Binay also got good ratings with 77 per cent trusting him much and only eight per cent have “little trust” in him. Fourteen per cent were undecided.

Eighty-eight percent is very high. Higher than his mother’s high trust rating of plus 72 in October 1986, eight months after she ascended into the presidency through People Power that ended more than two decades of Marcos dictatorship. Higher also than the March 1995 excellent rating of Pope John Paul , whose Philippine visit two months earlier attracted a five million throng at the Rizal Park.

SWS’ Mahar Mangahas surmised in his Inquirer column that “Perhaps the reason why trust in Noynoy Aquino is unprecedented is that its context is the ending of an unprecedentedly unpopular administration.”

Aquino won because of all the presidential candidates in last May’s election, he was the one who promised to be the opposite of Arroyo, whose nine years in power was characterized by rampant lying, cheating and stealing.

But there is some sort of a disconnect in the people’s attitude towards Aquino because even as they trust him, they also said that they don’t expect him to fulfil his campaign promises.

(In your opinion, how many of President Noynoy Aquino’s promises during the campaign can he fulfill?). Only 14 per cent said “all”. Nine per cent answered “almost all”. Fifty-three per cent said “a few”, four per cent said “almost none” and five per cent said “none”.

We can say that except for the rabid Noynoy fanatics, many of those who voted and “trust” him were aware of his limitations as a leader. Or they are just being practical. They are aware of the complexities of the country’s problems and they would understand if Aquino does not make good his campaign promises, one of which was to make Arroyo answer for the crimes she has committed against the Filipino people.

The high level of trust that the people has put on him should give Aquino confidence to give the people a government based on merit rather than patronage.

There are some appointments that show Aquino giving in to pressure groups. One of them is Foreign Secretary Alberto Romulo, who we understand enlisted the help of Aquino’s sisters Ballsy Cruz and Pinky Abelleda and the Iglesia ni Cristo to be able to hold on to his position.

The retention of Romulo as foreign secretary has negative ripple effects in the foreign service such as the illegal extension of Arroyo’s political ambassadors.

There are a few more appointments he has made that show him bowing to pressure groups.

Aquino should realize the fleeting characteristic of trust. It can be withdrawn as freely as it has been bestowed on him.

Bonus na yung pag nag almost all.

Kapag walang delivery ng promises, they hit really hard using every available peaceful avenues, including walang re-election.

It should be the case and non other, but the culture of pinoy politics and influence of members of family and friends often got in the way of the real intention and right service.

There’s nothing unusual about it, the election was barely over, just less than a month after inauguaration, the euphoria is still there so what do we expect.

From that point on there’s no significant events yet that happened to merit some meaningful comments from the masses, so let’s enjoy while it lasts.

Trust is a precious commodity most worthy of preserving and keeping it, once lost, it’s almost impossible to regain it.

    mula sa parusa

Ito lang ang masassbi ko sa iyo, Noynoy, “with power comes great responsibility”. Use it wisely, discreetly, and with a firm hand.

But then, of course, you already know this.

Let us then do it and help him…anong say mo?

Jimmy Galvez-Tan, who was orginally number one in the list, was dislodged when INC pushed for Ona. Tumulong din daw and “sisters”.

The other INC man in P-Noy’s team is NBI chief Gatdula. Many think it was Sen. Lacson who was responsible for Gatdula’s appointment. No, it’s the INC.

It seems that the INC finds the NBI strategic for its own interest. During Arroyo’s time, it was Wycoco, also an INC man.

“four per cent said “almost none” and five per cent said “none””. – These are the rabid anti-Noynoy group.

“Only 14 per cent said “all”. Nine per cent answered “almost all””,- These are the rabid Noynoy fanatics group.

Fifty-three per cent said “a few””,- These are the “puwede na group” which is not OK with Noynoy when he said hindi na puwede yong “puwede na”.

  11. Becky Becky

Why would P-Noy feel beholden to INC? He would have won even without INC support.

INC knew P-Noy would win that’s why they shifted support to him from Erap. INC chooses the candidate likely to win. Ganun lang yun sumasakay.

  12. sychitpin sychitpin

P.Noy won, mainly because people’s trust and confidence were on his side. It was earned though blood , tears and ultimate sacrifices not only by his heroic parent but also through his own personal honesty, simplicity and proper conduct.
Power is the best test of a person’s character. Cory passed the test with flying colors, while gma failed miserably. Transactional politics destroyed gma, and the same is trying to maintain its evil presence in malacanang.
People expects P.Noy to fulfill his promise of fighting corruption and putting interest of country above all else.

Trust and Confidence is the encompassing requirements for all interactions and relationship to succeed.

My aunt told me that for the first time since college, she now feels hope and wants to do something for the country, thanks to Noynoy. She is now returning to the Philippines from Dubai because she feels things will get better.

So, despite his blunders, I’m thankful to Noynoy for making my aunt love her country again.

  17. sychitpin sychitpin

gma’s failure was caused by people’s absolute loss of Trust and Confidence in her, her lying, cheating and stealing will hound her for the rest of her life and after.
P.Noy must hold sacred the trust and confidence of the people, and not compromise the same for anything at all.

  18. sychitpin sychitpin

  21. sychitpin sychitpin

correct Dan, after so many dark summers a new season of hope and goodness is back in the land. P.Noy enjoys highest trust rating and won honestly with the biggest number of votes in Phil history. People will support P.Noy in his fight against Corruption. PASG is symbol of corruption in gma’s regime which could be abolished immediately. DOJ, NBI, AFP, PNP could form a composite team to help the Truth Commission in bringing closure to Hello Garci, Jose Pidal, NBN-ZTE, Fertilizer Scam, Jun Lozada airport incident, etc…..

ang kaibahan: si Cory ay maka Dios; si gloria ay sangayon sa mga gawain ni Satanas..nag samba sa pera; pagnanakaw; pagsisinugaling; at marami pa…ang hindi lang seguro na gawa ni gloria against the ten commandments of God is “thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s husband”..pero malay natin…

kahapon sa isang pagtitipon sa aming parish dito sa St. Aloysius, I met a former teacher sa Mauban, and he is considering of going home to the Phil. for good and do something worthwhile, pero hindi daw niya alam kung ano. I told him that there are so many things he can do…as a former teacher, he could start teaching again…our educational system (Pero kahit din dito) is so pathetic..he can volunteer and help…total kung may tinatanggap siya na SS from here…malaking bagay na…sa mga galing sa US, Canada, Australia etc. na gustong umuwi na..more than before it is now that they shold seriously consider going home and to do something…let us help..

  24. Oblak Oblak

  25. During the campaign, Persident Noynoy promised to turning the Freedom of Information Bill into a law.

It is hard to trust the senators and congressmen, the BIR commissioners, the generals when it is very difficult to get information. The FOIA should be law.

  26. sychitpin sychitpin

#23 rose you are correct, there are so many things he can do, its time to serve motherland for a change

Abante at Malaya at wala akong computer..though I know Ellen since birth, hindi ko alam na isa siyang kilalang journalist..After so many years I met her here in NYC when she covered FVR and naging “fan” niya ako..
..pero come to think of it ano ang nangyari kay Nanny Perez? buhay pa ba siya?

  29. rose rose

Naniniwala talaga ako na marami tayong magagawa (in our own little ways) sa pagtulong na umunlad ang ating bayan..ang hirap lang kasi marami sa ating mga kababayan na “hindi na daw sila makaadjust sa init, sa alikabok, etc.”
ang ss akin kung gusto mo talagang tumulong these are just minor inconveniences…kaya hanga ako sa mga foreigners na nagvovolunteer sa atin…mabuti pa sila they seem to enjoy the Phil. and they help and make a difference..pero ang mga ilan sa kasimanwa ko..nakakalungkot.
…may mga ilan akong kakilala na may mga condo sa “exclusive” subdivisions at gustong gusto nila sa Phil. but do they volunteer to help sa mga mahihirap (other than hiring them as househelps)? maan lang!

  30. sychitpin sychitpin

lot of good changes are sweeping the Phil now , nevertheless supports and cooperation from everyone is needed more than ever. peaceful people power in another form is still ongoing since the death of Pres. Cory last August 1, 2009.

Gloria was too busy stealing the national coffers that coveting someone else’ hubby was the least of her priorities. But she did, true to form, applied her economics “savvy” into play. She was in the CORRUPTION business. She gave a taste of the good life to her minions, and pretty soon, they were craving for more for which gloria now raised the ante, and before they knew it, everybody were dependent on gloria. It is the law of supply and demand !

No. Gloria did not have the time to covet another. One pig was enough to represent their family.

many decades ago, people relied on spoken promises more than on written contracts, trust and confidence and honor were the accepted values followed by most. people valued honor like they valued life itself. delicadeza was very alive then.
nowadays, contracts were dishonored, trust and confidence misplaced, values were distorted, culture damaged. Fortunately, God intervened in our nations fate and an honest president is now leading the nation…………… to bring trust and confidence back to our lives

  33. parasabayan parasabayan

We can not expect Pnoy to follow all our wishes. It takes two to tango. It is too early to judge him now.

Ito ang tunay na lider, one who can weigh all the facts and come up with a position which will benefit more people than just a few.

I wish his trust rating will hold up for six long years.

By this moment, am making a step forward as approval on the sincerity of PeNoy sa kanyang mga promises sa madlang pipol but has to take two steps backward in disgust over his salong bola sa mga aso ni gloria.
