An ex-military chief’s untimely death

by VERA Files

News that former Defense Secretary and Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff Angelo Reyes on Tuesday committed suicide shocked the nation, which had been engrossed the past weeks over investigations of corruption in the military.

VERA Files photographer Mario Ignacio visited the Loyola Memorial Park in Marikina where Reyes took his life with a gun. One of the photos shows the statue of St. Jude, patron saint of desperate and lost causes, towering over the grave of Reyes’ parents, the very spot where he was found dead.

Renowned photojournalist Luis Liwanag followed the news trail in the aftermath of Reyes’ suicide, from the Loyola Memorial Park where he died, the Quirino Hospital where he was taken, and to the Arlington Memorial Chapels in Quezon City where his remains now lie.

While we condole with Reyes’ family, let’s not treat him like a hero. He just paid for his sins. And the way he ended his life was cowardice. If he truly love his country, he would have revealed what he knew.

Before or during the Senate hearing, Reyes suffered a stroke.

In the history of our AFP, I don’t remember a General with his rank ever committed suicide. And if there’s one thing that makes Reyes stand above the other corrupt military officials, it’s his guts to end his life even if he could not endure the guilt and humiliation. For this, I salute him for what he did. But let’s not stop with his death. Let’s dig deeper and unmask the brain of all these corruption. And if your spirit is still roaming around, may we ask you to haunt your protector, the person who was mainly responsible for your death.

Let his death be a wake up call to those who are still in denial that they did not do anything wrong. Let his death be the start of real cleansing amongst the AFP. Even if this is cowardice.

There should be no blame game. He did this to himself. He did not live up to his mom’s expectations. He allowed himself to be corrupted. He enjoyed the material things and power and so did his family.

  4. parasabayan parasabayan

His blood spattered on his mom’s grave was so eerie.

  5. truthseeker truthseeker

Col. Rabusa has made a statement that he doesn’t feel any guilt on Angie’s death. That’s the man !

  6. parasabayan parasabayan

I don’t felt sorry for them. Pasensya na sa pamilyang naulila.

  8. truthseeker truthseeker

Agree.

  10. parasabayan parasabayan

I still wish that the family should not blame his death on the lawmakers who are just doing their job. They should come to terms with the abuse of the system which they contributed to somehow. It is a tough pill to swallow. But they have to be humble and admit that they too contributed to Angie’s death.

  11. truthseeker truthseeker

But then, the lawmakers would be more cautious from now on. Angie’s death has some impact on the future hearings of government and military officials. Alam mo naman ang ugaling Pilipino.

  18. parasabayan parasabayan

SumpPit, I thought of that too, that he could have been a HERO instead of a VILLAIN kung tinapos muna niya yung mga nagsulsol sa kanya na maging masama bago niya tinapos ang buhay niya.

  21. tru blue tru blue

@13: Pareng Cocoy, naisahan tayo ni Angie. He made sure my dare wasn’t going anywhere. Well, nasa permanent kulungan sya at tahimik pa down under.

  22. Sana nga ma withdraw nila iyung Plea Bargain sa Sandigan, kung hindi Free man na siya kahit na ng plead na siya ng guilty sa lesser offense for time served in jail.Ano ba ang status ni Garcia? US Citizen ba o Green Card.

  23. parasabayan parasabayan

Ellen, off topic ito. I am wondering if the house of the horsie in San Francisco used the same mortgage company which gave the loans of the homes of the Ligots and the Reyeses. If this was the case then, that was how the midget and her family laundered money through the real estate properties. They formed the mortgage company, with the Philippine money converted to dollars and financed these properties and when they sold them, they got all the cash.

  24. tru blue tru blue

Ang Pinas talaga, many believe in Ghosts.

  25. parasabayan parasabayan

  26. From Armando de leon:

Condolences to Reyes family, but that is not the best way to do to free himself from that anomaly.

  27. From Bernardo Carpio:

“Hara-kiri” is a common ritual of honorable way of cleansing one’s disgrace name of defeated soldier in Japan, unlike the dreaded “Huramentado” it is an unwelcome Filipino (Muslim) version of ritual in cleansing one’s disgrace name by a soldier because oftentimes it involves a loss of life of innocent civilian.

Angie Reyes and Roberto Mendoza committed this last act of honorable way to regain respect they had flourishes during GMA’s term but unfortunately losses in the time of Pnoy watch.

Since this practice is not a Catholics way of life for the beliefs it’s a sure one way ticket to hell which contradict Jesus according to Judas scroll

In Roberto Mendoza’s case, his family’s confused reaction had allowed to cover his dead body of Philippines flag to give him honor that led to Chinese protest. While in Angie’s case, his family’s confused reaction is committing the same mistake twice which Angie’s trying to correct.

The man is an honorable man after all, but shame to his family, PMAers, AFP, and political leaders who honor him as if he did not commit a mistake; it’s not nice to kill the dead. Let his soul rest in peace, Shame on you.

  28. From:Trial-by-publicity

This is really sad because a man ha apparently taken his own life because he may have felt that he was treated by some in the Senate as already a convicted criminal when, in fact, no charges have been filed whatsoever against him in court.

Our publicity hungry lawmakers should reform because they cannot go about destroying lives and reputation purportedly so they can draft meaningful laws.

  29. Expressions of support from members of PMA Class ’66:

Ret. Col. Manuel Espejo, PMA class ’66 President

We condole and sympathize with his family as we are grieving for him as a brother and as a classmate.

He was righteous, straightforward. Sasabihin nya kung ano mali mo. Allegations lang yan. We wont believe it unless proven in court.

He was a soldier. He fought for the country. We remember him as a brother. It’s more than being a hero for us.

    Ret. Gen. Fred Bautista

Angie was a victim of the concept of democracy and justice wrongly applied. It appears he was being judged guilty even before he was tried. The way questions are asked, the way media writes the stories. You are supposed to be innocent unless proven guilty.

Biased na yung mga nagtatanong sa kanya. I hope what happened to him will serve as a lesson to our political leaders to respect human rights, what about mental, emotional.

    Ret. Commodore Jose Agudelo

There are some of us who value pride and dignity more than life itself. Perhaps he’s one of those who values pride and
dignity more than life itself. And he found out if this thing continues, this would degrade the AFP. Parang kinakain

  30. Golberg Golberg

“Let his soul rest in peace, Shame on you.”

Then his soul will not rest in peace. Because in hell there is no such thing as peace.

  32. Golberg Golberg

Same goes for the rest who continue to cover up their superiors illegal activities. Being greedy will not make a person be at peace. To deal with powers and principalities makes anyone who dares to challenge them, to be in a chaotic situation. But to focus on what is just and true towards the path of light will make someone or anyone to be at peace.

  35. BrigGen Fred Bautista (not sure if he retired with higher than brigadier rank) is over-acting.

Fred, firstly, what do you reckon is the concept of democracy and justice “correctly” applied?

Secondly, Angie Reyes was no more a victim than Garcia, Rabusa, et al, of democracy and justice wrongly or correctly applied. Angie Reyes was a big boy and knew what he was doing. He was a victim of his own ambitions and arrogance.

Lastly, Fred, what he did to himself [and not “what happened to him”] should serve as a lesson to everyone in service of govt, not to do the crime if one cannot do the time.

  36. 2011 is the 50th anniversary of PMA Class 61. The class that was supplanted by Class 62 (Abadia, Enrile, and others) in terms of promotion by Cory Aquino’s govt. Henry’s former boss, one of the more honourable graduates of PMA, was a member of Class 61. Very few of them remaining (wonder if Gen Aguirre is still alive.)

    Happy anniversary, Class ’61!

Karma may have caught up with Reyes. He experienced how painful is to be betrayed by a “kumpadre”. Erap his kumpadre trusted him the future,as he trusted Rabusa. He should have learned the hard lesson that you can not trust anybody but yourself from himself going the way he did to Erap. He can’t get into himself that he became a squealing victim by his own trusted subordinate and a kumpadre. He can’t imagine himself inside a cell for the rest of his life so he chose the easy way out, leaving his family to fend for themselves and to find their way out of the mess he weaved and led them into.

By his act he only proved the exact opposite of all the prasises for his alleged brillancy, patroitism and bravery. He proved that he can’t stand up to anything except to be a loyal soldier to the highest bidder.

In other words he is a rat and a coward.

General Reyes was a Proud man, was an achiever and just like the Japanese race that are just as proud of their race (the very reason why they believed that they can can conquer the world) and as a people, defeat is not acceptable…and he senses defeat during the last few days of his life and he would not let his enemies, real or perceived see him wallow in self pity or surrender and he’d rather go…Hitler was just as proud.

  41. I’m still not so convinced that an astute tactician like Reyes didn’t have an end game after Arroyo’s term ended.
Where were the members of his family, his guards, when he shot himself? Were they too far away to stop him? Were all their backs turned?
What if more generals kill themselves after this? hmmmm…

Thousands of explicit photos that Col. Russell Williams took while wearing women’s and girls’ lingerie show how his sexual obsession escalated from lesser crimes to sexual assault and murder, a Belleville, Ont., court heard Monday.

The decorated former commander of Canadian Forces Base Trenton, in eastern Ontario, pleaded guilty to all 88 charges against him — including two counts of first-degree murder, two counts each of sexual assault and forcible confinement and 82 break-ins and attempted break-ins.

Williams, 47, was arraigned on the murder charges Monday before Judge Robert F. Scott in Ontario Superior Court. Wearing a dark suit and grey button-down shirt, Williams quietly pleaded: “Guilty, your honour.”

Angie was a vicitim of what ?? What concept of democracy (was Angie a victim of) are you talking about ? Wasn’t it the same concept of democracy that enabled him to study (subsidized by the same government that practices this democracy) and graduate from the PMA ? And wasn’t it the same shit that enabled him to amass the wealth he did not deserve just because he sucked-up to a low-life commander in cheap who raped the very constitution of the same democracy she had sworn to uphold and protect ?

And what is this biased and “justice wrongly applied” shit ? For an ex-general, you sure do not even talk like one (WHEW !!!).

Remember that infamous EO 464, otherwise known as the “GAG ORDER” ? Wasn’t he (and those other generals on the take) merrily traipsed around like little kids having been ordered not to attend any senate hearings to cover up their asses to the chagrin of the senate and the Pinoys as a whole ? How many times did they disregard summons to the senate hearings just because they enjoyed the blanket of immunity Gloria extended them with ?

So, sa tingin mo, General Sir, sino ngayon ang mas na-agrabyado ?

Angie Reyes was never a victim of the Philippines’ concept of democracy. He was a victim of his own stupidity.

RETIRED General Fred Bautista, I’d say you are RETARDED.

Reply to No.38: Puwede din mahilig ang Class 66 (sex, sex).

What do we expect from his Batch mates? Siyempre good or bad, mistah pa rin. I don’t agree with Reyes family not allowing his critics to visit the wake. This is not the time to further divide but to reconcile. His wife once again shows she’s guilty too. When Erap’s mother passed away, he allowed Chavit Singson to attend the wake and even welcomed the latter.

The Catholic Church announced that she’s willing to provide Reyes a Catholic burial despite committing suicide which is a grave sin. But why not to those who belong to Freemasonry? Even in receiving communion, the church has declared she won’t allow those Catholics who favor RH Bill or contraceptives. When would the church become consistent?

“Trial by publicity” is the most abused phrase by those who are guilty. Reyes and company were called to the Senate hearing. They took their oath to tell the truth and nothing but the truth. Anong Trial by Publicity?

  52. Jawo,

In fairness to Gen Bautista, he is not retarded at all. I believe he said what he said because he was grieving.

BGeneral Fred Bautista (there were 2 General Bautistas during his time in the Philippine Army), is actually a very modest man, someone diametrically opposed to Angie Reyes in character, unassuming, soft spoken and very kind, not the type who bullied underlings, etc.

One general I’d almost say was “sweet” 🙂 🙂 🙂 and frankly, I respect him for those qualities and to my knowledge, he was not corrupt. (In fact, he and Espejo used to be the butt of playful jokes by their classmates. :-P)

  53. He was one of the members of the class to retire early too along with ex-PSG chief Maj Gen Leo Alvez.

Bakit lumaking kawatan? Di kaya’t nasa iyo mismo ang problema?

I wish people would stop saying that he was just a victim of a corrupt system. He wasn’t a victim – he was an active participant and an accomplice. He occupied the highest military post in the country and had a very rare chance to become a hero to his people and he blew it.

BTW Congrats Azkals. A breath of freash air amidst all these scandals and shamelessness

  57. Right, trig! Ang galing nung goal ni Caligdong, he intercepted the Mongolian defender’s header towards the baseline with his left foot, juggling it over the head of another backliner, and volleyed it with his right foot through the goalkeeper’s legs breaking our first point into the scoreless game with barely a minute to go at halftime.

    Pang YouTube yung sipang yon!

  58. Ooops sorry, sorry, re: (there were 2 General Bautistas during his time in the Philippine Army), I meant 2 General Freds, one was Fred Ruiz (oh dear, my memory is failing me … 😛 )

  59. Ah, you have a point there, Tongue… Good of you to remind that Golez (not one of my favourite members of Congress) was the one that moved to have plea bargain withdrawn.

Is Rex Robles really suggesting that Trillanes is a Gloria mole? Oh dear! That’s not only farfetched, also not logical.

Libre lahat pati pag-kain at uniporme.

..he was an honorable military man…true to himself..hindi na niya kaya ang manahimik (which most likely what putot told him) and being that she was his ex boss minabuti na niyang to close the chapter..and be out of it..hindi na rin niya seguro makaya ang investigation and protect putot..it is just sad to say that as a military man he died in vain…but I am sure na gloria si putot..loyal ang mga alagad niya…
..kaya lang ironical had he looked up and said a prayer for help from St. Jude things would have been different…who knows…

Is he really going to just forget all about Mrs Reyes, her 42 trips, etc etc?

By gum, why do our legislators grandstand and then do things halfbaked? I don’t understand. What kind of work ethics do they possess?

  83. I’d like to know if he’s made a decision to just postpone calling Mrs Reyes to the hearings or did he mean, he’s forgetting all about Mrs Reyes and her 42 trips and all the allegations made by Col Rabusa about their being on the take?

Sen Estrada must be consistent! If he accuses both wives of taking advantage of AFP largesse along with their spouses, he cannot spare one and indict the other and expect his charges to stick.

Geez! Do the maths: 26,000 troops x (say a minimum of) 15,000 pesos a month x 12 months, the coversion rate will amount to… ta da da ……….. yearly.

  86. parasabayan parasabayan

Jug, I share your skepticism on his death. The two sons were 50 meters away, the guard was positioned to make sure that Reyes was by himself. No one actually saw the incident. The witnesses just heard the gun shot. I wonder if they took gun powder residues from his left hand. But evidence gathering can be made by skillful and corrupt Soco officers, no shortage of corrupt officers in all our institutions. This is why even in the earlier comments I had, I was saying that, “was he really the one who was shot”? But it looks like they had an open coffin. I wondered too who was with him when he was brought to the hospital. The midget could have engineered this whole thing and substituted the body or replaced the body with someone else’s. Ona was the one who was in the hospital. Isn’t he the Health Secretary whose apppointment was disputed because he was not really pro poor and was into the kidney transplant business? This could be a whole drama again so that the issue of the AFP corruption will just be abandoned altogether. I HOPE NOT. But all would be possible, a whole conspiracy. Family members positioned for the cover up. Nowadays, a look alike is so easy to create. Remember the Chinese kid who had an old man’s mask that looked so real and was able to board the plane until a stewardess caught him? An old man went into the toilet and when he came out, a young man emerged. It can be a conspiracy that only monied and powerful people can do.

But when I saw the face of his wife weeping, I told myself, that is Angie because I saw the tears and the grief. Then I told myself not to get carried away because had she not done the things she did to her husband, he could still be alive.

Kaya nga sa dami ng cash na hawak ni Rabusa during his time, he had four vaults in his room! And since the cash could no longer fit these vaults, he and his assistant (Col Sonny Lim who is now also on the witness protection) had to exchange these to dollars so they would fit unto his vaults. Then most of these monies were put in envelopes and delivered to the Chief of Staff or to whoever the Chief of Staff and his Comptroller ( then Garcia) wanted the money to be delivered to.

I watched all the hearings so far. Pretty damning information on how the monies were siphoned out from the AFP.

MILITARY HONORS. Honor guards stand beside the casket of Angelo Reyes on Tuesday night as friends, colleagues in government and the military came to pay their respects.

“Honor, to people like General Reyes, is of great[er] value than life itself, and they’re willing to give their lives to defend that honor,” retired Philippine Navy chief Mateo Mayuga told the Philippine Daily Inquirer on Tuesday night at the wake.

Words of a coward! Have nothing but contempt for ex Vice-Admiral Temy Mayuga of the infamous Mayuga report, loyal dog to Gen Reyes’ without whom he wouldn’t have served as Flag-Officer-In-Command PN.

Reyes worked his ass out so that Mayuga, with only a year left in service, would be given berth in the navy (even if he didn’t deserve it) which meant shipping Mayuga’s lowerclass, then FOIC as envoy to Australia.

Shut up Mayuga! Make that report public and you might just redeem yourself!

  100. Like Reyes, Mayuga said he will bring to his grace the complete information gathered by his group. I doubt even if he really gathered information diligently.

#112 – I read that article earlier today … and several quotes in it was just plain classic !

“Ang tapang ni Sir Angie (He was so brave). It showed his strength of character. It was a shot to the heart, not to the head, to show that he was not out of his mind when he did it,”

“People like you and me will never understand it. ”

and then he proceeds to explain it.

” I am just an ordinary mortal. He belonged to a different league of distinguished individuals who value honor more than life. You have to look at it from a military point of view.”

“Only courageous people can do that—shooting yourself in the heart in front of the grave of your mother. I cannot do that. It takes a lot of courage to do that,” Mercado said. – Or a lot of guilt.

“He was extremely brave. I can’t do that. I’d rather have myself jailed than shoot myself in front of my mother,” – Pichay waiving his right to self-incrimination.

“To judge Sir Angie is to judge how he raised his five sons—as upright gentlemen, all successful in their own right. That is the total description of a true and good man,” – Mayuga again. and how should we judge Gen Garcia ???

  108. Hi Ellen,

I’m afraid, no amount of reminding him of the PMA cadet honour code will change who he is… a moral coward!

These rats are compelling people, even those who are trying desperately to refrain themselves from being politically incorrect so to speak, to be blunt about the man they call a hero!

These rats must be told in no uncertain terms that General Angelo T Reyes, PMA Class 66, CSAFP-turned mutineer and coup d’étatist, CSAFP to a usurper and election cheat, DND chief to a moral dwarf-coddler of warlords, was an ignoble moral coward!

  109. Yep. It will make me very unpopular with friends, but I really believe it was Reyes’ way of saying “kiss my ass losers!” instead of doing the right thing of sheding light or contributing to bring the truth out – he left everybody hanging. If that is the sacred “honor” these officers and gentlemen are talking about well I’m content to be just an unsophisticated hillbilly who at least can still call a spade a spade.
…and if I hear someone ask “sino ba ang malinis?” again I’m goin goin going to lose it entirely.

  110. Bayonic,

Could very well picture the gathering of moral cowards around the coffin of another moral coward! They should all hang themselves in shame instead of singing praises to a man who lived a life of arrogance, lies and moral cowardice!

  111. Tedanz Tedanz

  112. Ellen,

What really, really irks me is the nerve of this group of moral cowards re-defining who or what makes a hero!

And Temy Mauga’s exalting Reyes’ act of extreme moral cowardice as a heroic deed which he should goddamn know is all that is utterly wrong. He is setting all the wrong examples to younger PMAers and re-defining the PMA cadet honour code along the lines of his and his master Reyes’ brand of moral cowardice! The shithead is utterly despicable.

  113. I’m really puzzled why no one in Malacanang is speaking against this farce, its not that anyone can mount a coup if sensitive hearts are hurt at this point in time?
Do they expect the people to dumbly listen, cry, and say “ah yes, he was a good man?” are they out of their minds?

That, Tedanz, should be part of the honour code!

  115. Jug,

A political tactic? Not to get embroiled in a highly emotive issue? After all, the farce is hitting the right notes (at the moment.)

Sooner or later though, Sec de Lima has got to get up and gather evidence against these corrupt generals and moral cowards.

  116. anna,
We saw earlier how the ones who exposed the violations of the code were treated, they were the ones that were “ostracized”, marginalized, never to return to the service again. That seems to be the message these people want to send here? These guys are making it look like the prevailing culture is practicing a different kind of “honor” , the code of silence, the one that is practiced only by criminal syndicates.
Its af if we are being told here that “the truth is what we say it is.”

  117. Jug, agree… that is the message they are almost wittingly trying to project!

Dang! These guys are either dumber than just dumb or are really crazy (as in psycho crazy.)

One thing that the officers, the Magdalos and the others, who rebelled against Gloria cannot be accused, not ever, for doing what they did, of moral cowardice.

Theirs was all that was diametrically opposed to their upperclassmen’s omerta code, theirs was exmplary moral courage!

  118. Tedanz Tedanz

  123. Tedanz,

Agree with Jug… PMA instills honour in its yearlings and beyond, and indeed, there are those who lose their honour half-way much like those who were reared, educated and moulded in any other school.

We are all struck by the seeming severity of the deeds of these generals (and admirals) because we put such a high level of expectations on the graduates of the Philippine Military Academy, expecting them to act with higher level of honour than the ordinary man or woman in service of the state, and rightly so but my suggestion is that we should not condemn the institution as such but single out the scalawags who march out of its gates.

  124. And Tedanz, remember the group of young officers, the Magdalos, who went to Oakwood? The Marines and other officers who were involved in the Fort Bonifacio stand off?

They were graduates of the PMA… They were not involved in the heist. They were the ones that tried desperately to denounce their upperclassmen.

If we condemn the PMA, then we are condemning their act of moral courage.

I don’t blame you if you believe your friends, Jug. I know the other side of the story. I have my basis for not believing them.

  131. i don’t know what to believe anymore actually, but i definitely can’t believe these accolades to reyes.

  132. Jug,

Not surprised… he took the honourable route by coming out and as you, and many people do, PMAers (and members of the military en toto) could be so cruel to one of their own when he is perceived to have squealed.

Militaries all over the world, somehow, likes to keep their secrets and their dirty linen as far away as possible from the prying civilian world.

  133. thats just it, the concept of not squeeling is supposed to apply to not divulging vital information to the enemy even under torture right? but who is the enemy now, the people, the country? its really perplexing

  134. ellen,
deep inside i tend to believe trillanes, with all the smear stories against him, both professional and even below the belt personal ones, i find them to be ridiculous already.

  135. Ayayayay… from the looks of it, they have decided that the people, eg., you, us, everyone and anyone, have now become their enemy.

  136. And Gloria and her gang of thieves are experts at disseminating smear stories.

  137. precisely anna, noitice how they talk about it, like we could never understand, we look at it from a different perspective, etc, etc…what perspectives are there to choose from really, there’s only right and wrong?
they should have just kept their mouths shut and suffered this crisis in quiet dignity.

  138. Lurker Lurker

I remember in my younger days when I used to spend summer vacations at the PMA (I had a cousin who was married to an officer staying there), there was this cadet whom they knew cheated in an exam. That cadet was ostracized by the entire PMA––nobody socialized or talked to him, no one shared his table at mealtimes (the mess hall people had a special table just for him).

Pretty soon, that cadet couldn’t stand being treated like a pariah that he resigned.

The cadets while at the PMA are taught and live under a strict code of honor; it’s when they get out into the REAL world that they become what some officers have now become––greedy, grasping generals.

  139. parasabayan parasabayan

I have several close relatives who are PMAers. Not all PMAers are corrupt. I beg to disagree.

  140. lurker,
i find it hard to believe you know this without ever experiencing life inside. i believe that what you’re saying as summer vacation is summer camp already. 🙂

  141. Lurker Lurker

juggernaut: I only spent summer vacations at the PMA. I was at the mess hall when I saw this cadet eating alone in one table, so I asked why.

I only learned of his leaving months after.

  142. lurker,
yep. they even trash his things and his room. its a living hell…but you won’t believe it, in some cases (at least one i heard of), if the guy is thick faced enough, he still gets to graduate.

  143. and this guy goes out to be involved in carnapping, probably even in the drug trade, and he still enjoy the perks of his rank.

  144. Jug,

re: “deep inside i tend to believe trillanes, with all the smear stories against him,”

Can tell you that I too heard many stories about Trillanes direct from his superiors and others who knew him in the service. My misgivings about him were exacerbated by the fact that Honasan wielded great influence, it seemed then, on him and his group (and as everyone here knows, I dislike Honasan).

Took me awhile to get round to it but I went on to observe and made up my mind on my own.

That said, despite my earlier misgivings, I never accused Trillanes of moral cowardice and thought long ago, right after the Oakwood mutiny, that he and his friends possessed exemplary moral courage.

  145. anna,
i don’t know him personally, never even talked to him, but after seeing so many people weave ridiculous stories of him – he must be doing something right.

  146. In fact, if one of his superiors (and Trillanes, if he is reading this, knows who I mean) who happens to be a compadre (I’m godmother to the son) learns that I’ve changed tack about Trillanes, he might become upset with me but really, I don’t care! I try “to do what is right even if it’s unpopular” 😉

  147. bottomline, these gentlemen who are rallying behind reyes should have thought twice about it. they should rally around the country instead, and sing songs of love for country not just for an institution.

Subject: DON’T BURY ANGIE REYES AT LIBINGAN NG MGA BAYANI
DON’T ALLOW ANGELO REYES TO BE BURIED AT “LIBINGAN NG MGA BAYANI.” IT IS AN INSULT TO REAL HEROES and it degrades the credibility, integrity and sanctity of this exclusive place.

Reyes has never done acts of heroic proportion. Unless somebody can present clear proofs to the contrary, I don’t agree for him to have a place in “Libingan ng mga Bayani.”

  153. and its puzzling why they allowed his son to lash out in public like that, as if other people pulled the trigger? don’t they know how to take responsibility? where were they when their father took all this money, did they even bother to ask why they had so much when they were not scions of a Lucio Tan?

  154. i hate to be insensitive here, but i personally subscribe to “pagalit galit” if my wife catches me with a lie.

  155. Jug #173

  158. tru blue tru blue

Might as well make three columns of the “Libingan ng mga Bayani” and label them in the following manner:
    First column – Tunay
    Second column – Medyo
    Third column – Mga Lintik

  159. Isaac H Isaac H

  160. chi chi

#175. hey guys, after all we said about reyes, is anybody feeling guilty already?

Not I, jug! Reyes had always a choice, but he made the easiest way out taking no responsibility to what he’d done.

  161. parasabayan parasabayan

What guilt Jug? I did not steal anything or became a side kick of the most corrupt president of the Philippines and I did not take advantage of multi million perks for myself and my family, so why should I be guilty?

  162. parasabayan parasabayan

And, I did not take a short cut exit just to cover up the crimes of my friends and relatives, so why should I be guilty?

  163. Sa isang puntod sa sementeryo:

“Mama, inalipusta nila ako, binaboy. Sorry, ‘Ma, I did not live up to your expectations.

I will not give them the satisfaction.”

  165. rabbit rabbit

if reyes was to be accorded the honor at libingan ng mga bayani,, why cant the late president marcos

  166. rose rose

is there a trash can sa Libingan ng mga Bayani?

  167. nice one tt, but if i ‘m going to write a story about it i still prefer the faked death, new identity in the bahamas sipping a frozen margarita in the company of baywatch like babes

  168. What if he believed that by dying an honorable death by shooting yourself in the chest he gets a free pass to heaven where 50 beautiful virgins cater to his beck and call? Imagine his desperation when he comes to and finds no virgins but mandingos who cant wait to ravage him?

  173. Tedanz Tedanz

    Sabi ni Trillanes ..
“We can’t possibly put the blame on anybody here for the death of General Reyes. Only he knows what led him to that (commit suicide),”
    At dugtong pa ..
“We’ll keep on digging into this thing until we catch those who stole from the nation’s coffers,”

Sabagay no worry ako dyan, hindi magpapatiwarik si putot at pig, madami pa silang ihi-Hello! 🙂

  177. bayonic bayonic

#197 …. because he was man enough to blame God on the rising oil prices ?

  178. Tedanz Tedanz

hey guys, after all we said about reyes, is anybody feeling guilty already?

    ________________________________________________________
Guilty ? Guilty of what ???

  180. rabbit rabbit

only in the philippines,,,you can get away with graft..either by plea to lesser offense or commit suicide

  181. norpil norpil

  182. Hahaha! Galing, Tongue! – chi

“Angelo Tomas Reyes” – “The Angel who Drinks with Kings” trinansleyt ko lang sa Ingles yang katagang baluktot na Espanyol.

    Pwede, diba? Fitting!

    TongueT,

Naaliw ako sa kwento mo sa *184. Makabagbag damdamin. True to Life!

  186. luzviminda luzviminda

Remember the interview with Angelo Reyes concerning the Oil Price hike? When he said na …’don’t blame us, Blame God’!…At that moment, sa tingin ko ay nilukuban na siya ng espirito ng demonyo and was already cursed to die because he mocked God!. To those still covering up for the Mastersminds…It’s time to Repent and REVEAL! SAVE YOUR SOULS!

  187. chi chi

    Hahaha@Tongue! Sakto ruler mo a…lol!

    Don’t I feel guilty?

It has been asked, Do we or I particularly feel guilty? Yes I am for not speaking out like AdeB, TT, Jug, Vic and the many others against this heinous monstrosity against moral courage.

The AFP is has been ravaged by tsunami,a 10 intensity earthquake, a Noah’s flood of international shame. I feel guilty
as hell like the AFP Commander in Chief for being silent.

the AFP in these times that

    Who killed Angie?

It’s the LAW that caused him to kill himself. Think about it.

  191. rose rose

Tinanong ko kanina sa pastor namin kung bakit hindi binibigyan ng Catholic rites ang isang nag suicide…ang paliwanag niya sa akin..hindi sa hindi binibigyan ng church …the rites or the blessings are given..kaya lang daw privately…kasi maging scandal kung openly..being that suicide is killing oneself..and killing is against the ten commandments…but he said we should pray for the person’s soul…ang sabi ko kung ayaw ng familia? nevertheless daw we still have to pray for the person.. gusto ko sanang sundan ng tanong..”how many candles should we light?”

  192. Humus, please do something about your margin so I don’t have to fix your comments.

    Thanks.

Sorry Ellen and your patriots bloggers.
I believe in this as instituional remedy
to damaged institutions. So I like many
to read and think about it.

Let Corruption also Kill the Philippine Military Academy.

Abolish it and use its gargantuan budget to a start
A new life for the future officers of the Armed Forces.
Divide the PMA budget into three: Trillanes should author a law creating (1) the Philippine Army Academy (PAA); (2) The Philippine Air Force Academy (PAFA), and (3) the largest because the country is an archipelago: The Philippine Sea Forces Academy(PSFA),
( compose of the Philippines Navy, Marines and Coast Coast Guard The strategic Academy locations should be: PAA in Fort Magsaysay; PAFA in the Visayas, and the PSFA Cotabato or Zamboanga City.

The time is opportune and propitious. Funding may be augmented from foreign military assistance. The Armed Forces of the Philippines at the time after all those PMA graduates had retired can start on a clean slate. Let this idea be the start, the foundation and the building blocks for the straight way (patriotism) of the Armed Forces of the Philippines under P NOY.

If this will come to pass, General Reyes’ suicide will be mitigated by history.

    Organization theory is quite explicit.
New organizations are born to become
    institutions because of extremis situations,
often times born out of calamities and
    catastrophy.

Now is the time to have a few small
academies that can be focused and
    effective to fulfill their doctrinal
role to the country. MONEY is of no
    matter here.
