At the rate companies are pulling out their ads from the show, if I were the producer of the show? I’ll probably stop it already. Unless MVP thru his blue chip companies will replace and sponsor the shows. 🙂

  4. Mike Mike

Di na kailangan mag desisyon pa ang MTRCB, inunahan na sila ng mga kumpanya sa pag pull out ng kanilang ads sa show.

Hit him (Willy) where it really hurts, that is his ppcket.

  7. Mariing dagok din itong pulling out ng ads placement ng Jollibee for Inasal at mga produkto ng Procter & Gamble sa WW. Kahit papaano, nagka resulta ang mga pagtuligsa at adverse reaction from many quarters.

We routinely monitor the media, blah, blah, blah. We are aware of the recent incident, blah, blah, blah – P and G

Meaning, if this wasn’t talked about, tuloy ang ligaya.

Wise decision and good for you, Procter and Gamble! We’ll surely support your products.

Mike is right…hit him where it hurts most, his pocket!

  12. Tedanz Tedanz

If the Top US network can pull the plug on Charlie Sheen 2 Men and a Half, a highly rated show because of Charlie’s weird and violent behaviour, why not the Network pull the Plug on Willing Willie for his Weird and Abusive behaviour? It will be a plus on the network for doing so, since this Guy has already been an embarassment and a symbol of what is wrong on a human being…

Since nababanggit ang tungkol sa artificial beauty, heto may na pick-up akong text joke:

Erap, FVR & GMA standing outside the Pearly Gates:

St. Peter: Eddie, you cannot enter here with that.
    FVR : But it’s just a cigar?!?!
St. Peter: Sorry, no smoking inside.
St. Peter: Erap, you cannot bring that inside.
Erap: Huh, Bakit naman? Blue label kaya ‘to.
St. Peter: Sorry, alcohol not allowed inside.
St. Peter: Sorry Gloria, but you cannot enter.
GMA: But why? I didn’t bring anything with me?
St. Peter: Silicone implants not allowed inside.

I was sitting in my hotel room the other night, savoring some Chivas whiskey. Not the actual whiskey, I’m more of an Earl Grey kinda gal. Instead, it was a commercial for Chivas that was giving me a bit of a buzz. It begins with somber piano music, and then a voice-over comes on: “Millions of people, everyone out for themselves… can this really be the only way?” No, the commercial goes on, “here’s to honor… and to gallantry.” We then see images of various people doing the right thing, helping someone push-start a broken down car, tired firefighters after fighting a blaze. “Here’s to doing the right thing,” the voice says, and to the “true meaning of wealth.”

It’s a striking ad. And it’s part of the most important trend in marketing: the recognition by businesses that there’s much to be said for appealing to consumers’ better instincts, and engaging them with something other than materialism, sex, money, and self-interest. And it’s not a coincidence that this trend is escalating at the same time social media have risen to the forefront in the worlds of both marketing and activism. It’s all part of the changing zeitgeist and it’s only natural that forward-thinking companies would want to tap into it.

Right now, we’re in the transition phase — the marketing world still looks like a split-screen, with most companies going about things in the traditional way, but with many pioneering ones breaking new ground by building their brands while trying to help make the world a better place.

Marketing is often a leading indicator of where a culture is at and, even more, of where it’s heading. Marketing has always been most effective when it takes ideas that are in the air and crystallizes them, so that they resonate with us in ways often beyond our conscious understanding. This is what is so powerful about the combination of social media, marketing, and doing good.

  26. Dinah,
Thanks for the article, I’m going to share it with friends.

This particular line caught my eye…

“Millions of people, everyone out for themselves… can this really be the only way?” No, the commercial goes on, “here’s to honor… and to gallantry.” We then see images of various people doing the right thing, helping someone push-start a broken down car, tired firefighters after fighting a blaze. “Here’s to doing the right thing,” the voice says, and to the “true meaning of wealth.”

What the advertises of Wiling Willie did is commendable & setting a very good example to the public. Pinapakita ng mga advertisers nato despite they have ad placements in that show, if might be painful for them but they pull-out anytime if they see that their products are affected of the issues involved therein and its for the general public good.

I have nothing against willie in personal, pero talagang dapat ma disiplina na sya at bawasan ang yabang niya.

Good for Procter and Gamble. Their name and reputation just doesn’t jive with the brand named Willie Revillame. The latter connotes vulgarity, immorality and arrogance.

It’s live water and oil. Just doesn’t mix.

P & G and all the rest of the sponsors should protect their brand names from being tainted by that abominable showman and show-off.

  32. A related and interesting column by Ma. Isabel Ongpin @The Manila Times “Beware the backlash, media moguls” which read in part:

A case in point has always been the shows of Willie Revillame. They have been from the beginning an exploitation of poor people, using cash and goods to lure people to demean themselves in distasteful ways, ways which are below our standards of be-havior, contrary to our idea of dignity and pride. To be part of his show, people must suspend these standards and lower themselves as this host demands in exchange for the money or goods that he makes believe comes from him.

    http://www.manilatimes.net/opinion/beware-the-backlash-media-moguls/

When it rains, it pours. 🙂

The attraction of the show is money. Kaya popular. But can’t the producers use that money and popularity to achieve some good purpose?

Halimbawa, twenty years na ang Jeopardy. It is popular because it gives away money; yet there is that knowledge component to it. People are encouraged to be wide readers. There are spin-offs off course, the Challenge show for high school kids, Who Wants to be a Millionaire, and the “Are You Smarter than a fifth grader”?

Then there are the talent shows, for singers, dancers, etc. They encourage discovery of new talent. Magandang ploy yan, para maka-sign-up ng talent; instant talent manager si Simon, of Paul Potts, etc.

Even the purely “fun” type shows are wholesome – Minute to Win it, for example.

A good show does not need to bank on the popularity of the host. Note, wala na si Bob Barker, okay pa rin ang price is right. In fact, I believe Willie’s popularity was bought by his producers’ money. Put a monkey there distributing money, dudumugin pa rin ng tao yan.

Ang hilig magpa a la West ng Pinoy, from the Arrneow accent, to the Taglish, to the NoyPi rap. Time to catch up with the long standing trend in the West – corporate responsibility. Laos na yang concept of the corporate predator. The biggest example to my mind, is the google motto, “Don’t be evil”. It doesn’t hurt their bottom line either, even when they abandoned the Chinese market.

  36. saxnviolins saxnviolins

The enduring comedians poked fun at themselves, not at others – Charlie Chaplin, Dolphy, Babalu.

Even among the stand-up comics, the biggest laughs are harvested when the comic makes fun of his own ethnic group – Rex Navarrete, Russell Peters (making fun of his Indian accent), and early Eddie Murphy material making fun of American blacks vis-a-vis continental Africans.

Yang alaskador ng iba, poor talent yan. Walang maisip na material. Many years ago, ganyan din ang Tito Vic and Joey. Medyo nag-mature na, chronologically, as well as material-wise.

    Sax,

Naalala ko tuloy sila Pugo, Tugo and Tugak. Saka si Tange. 🙂

“TV5 insisted that the little boy’s performance – which Willie had described during his show as “macho dancing” – “was not lewd or obscene,” preferring to refer to it as “a dance form called ‘body wave’ …no different from the familiar dance moves we have been accustomed to today.” – TV5

Body wave dancing? Ano yun? First time I heard about it. Anak ng p…. , kung ano ano ng palusot. Mga hung hang kayo!!!

Boycott CDO and Oishi — ayaw nilang mag pull out

Inquirer reports that they make 8 Million daily, we should make willie feel how is it to make zero pesos per day

Ayan, off the air na si Willy for two weeks. Nakinig ang mga sponsors and the people are happy. They are the most vulnerable of all!
