MTRCB considers suspension of ‘Willing Willie’

by VERA Files for Yahoo

Suspension ruling out April 7
The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) is expected to rule on Thursday, April 7, on the controversy over the March 12 episode of TV5’s early evening variety show “Willing Willie” where host Willie Revillame goaded a tearful six-year old boy into doing a sexually suggestive dance while the audience laughed at the child.

But if for some reasons they would have to delay the ruling, MTRCB Chair Grace Poe-Llamanzares said, “There are talks of a preventive suspension. That’s one option.”

Another MTRCB official, who asked not to be named because he was not the authorized spokesperson, said, “There’s no question about the suspension. What is being discussed is for how long.”

The source said they are discussing a suspension that could range from a minimum of one week to a maximum of one month.

Llamanzares said some may question the need for a preventive suspension when TV5 has already introduced regulatory measures in the show. But she said some members of the Board believe that TV5 has to be penalized for the March 12 episode which Social Services Secretary Dinky Soliman and Human Rights Commission Chair Loretta Rosales said was a violation of the law against child abuse (Republic Act No. 7610).

The unnamed MTRCB official said, “The suspension would be a message that the Board won’t tolerate shows that denigrate human dignity especially when it involves children.”

“Willing Willie” is a co-production venture between host Revillame and TV5.

The MTRCB source noted that TV5’s statement of apology referred to the March 12 show “which viewers may have found offensive or in bad taste.”

“They (network officials), themselves, didn’t find it offensive,” he said.

MTRCB’s Hearing and Adjudication Committee started the preliminary conference Monday. The process entailed getting the side of TV5, the statements from the Department of Social Welfare and Development and Commission on Human Rights, and inputs from psychologist Honey Carandang.

TV5’s Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Robert V. Barreiro reported to the Committee the regulatory measures the network has undertaken, including imposing stricter guidelines on the appearance and performance of minors, particularly, children on all TV5 programs; requiring that all auditions of TV5 programs be supervised by representatives designated by the TV5 Ombudsman; appointing an internal Ombudsman to entertain complaints regarding offensive programs; imposing a moratorium on contests and game shows involving minors; creating a Standards Advisory Board to be composed, among others, of a psychologist, a creative director, and a children’s communications expert; and engaging the services of a team of psychologists to attend to Jan-Jan’s needs.
There is an active campaign in Facebook to boycott advertisers of “Willing Willie.” Jollibee’s Mang Inasal has suspended its ad placement in the show.

    When will he ever learn?

MTRCB is right. The punishment of Revillame should be a message not only to him but also to others in TV, a very powerful medium, to help in instilling good moral values.

Lahat na kababawan at kabastusan yan lang ang binubuhusan ng pera ng mga TV networks. Actually pare-pareho sila, mas mmagasapang lang si Revillame.

Willie makes lots of money from his rough personality, he is using it to full extent. He’d learn if he wanted, problem is he refused to do so, matitigil ang dating ng milyunes.

we should be more active and more involved in safe guarding and keeping our culture and values…let’s promote and encourage instilling them in our children…let them enjoy their youth..bakit tayo hindi ba ganoon ang tinuro ng ating mga magulang? do we blame them? hindi! as a matter of fact we are thankful na kahit papaano nakaraos din tayo…

  4. Kung masuspended siya tiyak madami na namang aangal na umaasa sa show niya. May mga supporter na naman siya na magrarally para siya pabalikin sa show..

  5. Hindi na siya nadala.

  6. Lurker Lurker

Sayang kasi madami sana siyang magagawang kabutihan dahil sa kanyang popularidad. Dapat ay maliwanagan siya!

  7. Mike Mike

Sana the suspension is 30 years. 😛

    For life ha, Mike? 🙂

mukhang malungkot ang mukha ni Wil lie ngayon…is that for real or arte lang! who knows…

  10. acibig acibig

Willie `s show should be suspended, tama na ang awa, ganyan ang pinoy, too emotional, sa lahat ng bagay , pinoys are emotional, that`s is why Pnoy is president right ?? sympathy vote

Now back to willie, we should boycott all the company who will not pull out of his show

Personally, i will forgive him if he does one thing— pasayawin din nya ang anak nila ni liz almoro ( sabi kasi nya nothing is wrong right ??)

  11. i don’t like the word “CONSIDER”. they should just pull the plug forever and ban him on broadcast networks.

  12. rose rose

what does the Board mean by “preventive suspension? why the use of the word “consider”…will they or will they not?..pabitin bitin ba…ang lagay ano ang gusto nila…no wonder we can’t move on para sa matuwid na daan..

  13. rose rose

awa should have no place in the Board’s decision..tama ba ang ginawa niya or hindi? yes or no? true or false? hindi multiple choice…as Reyna mentioned above..pull the plug…

  14. imr1159 imr1159

I agree with Reyna. MTRCB should ban Willie for life.Masyado na syang abusado.Nagtataka lang ako, bakit sa dami ng sigalot na kinasangkotan nya eh nandyan pa rin sya at namamayagpag?

Chi, ok lang 30 years. By that time hindi na uso ang tv.
    😛

  16. rose rose

Mike: tama either hindi na uso ang tv..or matanda na si willie wala ng mawiwili ..buntad ang tiyan at kalbo pa..

  17. rose rose

Willie fans will get mad.. but they will realize that money while it is important..the love and greed of it sould not be abused by people of his kind…

  18. Masyado na syang abusado.Nagtataka lang ako, bakit sa dami ng sigalot na kinasangkotan nya eh nandyan pa rin sya at namamayagpag?

Because those who watch him deserve him. Boy, they are in the millions. Ask Nielsen.

You do not put pearls before swine.

  19. As to child exploitation, I don’t hear the same uproar when Vice Ganda makes fun of his contestants which he does everyday. Usually comments about some kid’s ugly face subjects the poor kid to ridicule the whole gallery even bursts into boisterous laughter. Maybe not as “magaspang” as delivered by Willie but what’s the difference? What’s worse is when Vice makes (homo)sexual advances, verbally or otherwise, on his co-judges and even the handsome teenagers in the contestant groups. Enough to spoil your lunch.

The show may not have the same following as Willie’s but they are watched worldwide. So where are the puritans? Where’s the angry mob? You will just allow Vice Ganda strut his stuff on lunchtime TV? We will just tolerate him kasi third sex siya?

What is sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander.

Tongue, didn’t know about this Vice Ganda’s show. If true, he should also be reprimanded or banned from hosting tv shows. I used to watch Student Canteen, Eat Bulaga and APO show before, but that was a long time ago. Nowadays, I only learn about these shows on blogs and on social networks like FB.
To be honest, I think Willie’s antics is no different from that of Joey De Leon’s. Only Willy’s is more vulgar. I remember Joey was once suspended for something he did or say on Eat Bulaga.

  21. Mike, like Willie Revillame and Joey De Leon, he/she is also a comedian. I think Vice started as a stand-up comedian in one of the comedy bars here where mostly gay comics sell their dirty gay adult humor characterized by vulgar language sometimes directed at someone in the audience…wait….wait…WAIT!!!

Now, I get it. Macho dancing is sooo 70’s and caters to the uneducated gay bar habitués or the byuti farlor crowd. Comedy bars is totally today and well attended by educated(?) sosyaleros (or social climbing) Starbucks frequenters.

    #23 & #24 😉

Yes, I’ve heard a lot about these comedy bars where stand up comedians train their pranks on audiences or guests. That’s why I shun these places since I don’t want these clowns to make me the butt of their jokes. 😛

Wait… wait…. WAIT!!! Tongue, are you insinuating that Willie is gay? 😛

  24. rose rose

I never liked Vice Ganda..I didn’t even know he/she is also confused kung ano siya…dapat paliguan din siya at sabonan ng Tide..ano kaya kung Lysol?

  25. There was a bar in Cebu near the airport that had both, girls dancing and stripping then macho dancers. Just like the girl dancers kinakalong din, hinahalik halikan ng mga gay patrons ang mga macho dancers, its quite a sight, of course wala akong reklamo may kalong din akong naka bikini nun na babae. Those were the bad old days.

ang treat of my late husband to the friends of his father on their 70s whenever they visit JC, was to take them to 42nd St. and take their pictures with the “girls” of the night na nakalong pa sa kanila para ipasikat pagbalik nila sa Pinas…minsan I was with them sa 42nd st..and went with them to the bar…ayaw niya akong iiwan sa labas so pumasok din ako…at nanuod ng peep show..and then sumigaw ang sumasayaw “only one in the booth” bawal pala…pero naka panuod ako…

  27. rose rose

pero the first time I saw this kind of a show was in Bacolod sa Key Club…sa gitna ng niyugan…I ahve not been to male dancers club…
..dito naman sa tate…a friend toured me around when I first came..and nanlaki ang mga mata ko sa mga nakita ko..sa 42nd St. and Times sq. and after 30 minutes..oh nakapanuod ka na let’s go and have a snack and he took me to McDo…and when an aunt came for a visit gusto daw niya makakita ng “bomba” so we went to the Playboy Club…sa Oh Calcutta at sa “Let My People Come” I was not entertained with the show but it was educational to know..the realities in life…

  28. rose rose

in Cairo though my friends and I went to a belly dancing bar..a group of us all women but it was different…

  29. rose, yung Oh, Calcutta yung musical na naked lahat ng actors? Parang 30 years na yata yan sa Broadway.

  30. rose rose

Tongue: yon nga ang Oh Calctta, pero wala na ngayon…as a matter of fact wala na yong ganyang klase ng play ngayon..wala ng palabas na ganyan..hindi nagtagal…

  31. Meron pang isa rose, yung Naked Boys ba yon? Off-Broadway. Saka yung revival ng Hair sa Broadway pero unlike Oh Calcutta and Naked Boys na buong show, few scenes lang yung sa Hair. Napanood ko yun nung 70’s.

  32. rose rose

  33. rose rose

  34. rose rose

Ops cors! Duling na unano, pagtatawanan yan, most of those who attend this kind of show eh, hangin ang laman ng ulo. Mga mentally challenged are not spared, they’ll be laughed at for whatever reasons. Sad way of life.

  39. rose rose
