Admin ticket is LP,NP,NPC,LDP coalition; plus Koko Pimentel?

The latest survey by Pulse Asia on the senatorial preferences for the May 2013 elections shows that five in the top 12 will likely be in the Aquino administration ticket which would be composed of Liberal Party, Nationalist People’s Coalition, Nacionalista Party, and Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino.

They are re-electionists NPC’s Francis “Chiz” Escudero and Loren Legarda, who are in the top two in the survey; NP’s Alan Peter Cayetano (3); independent Antonio Trillanes IV (9), and Rep. Edgardo “Sonny” M. Angara (12).

NP’s Rep. Cynthia Villar is in number 14, which is not a bad position. With a good media strategy and grass roots organization, there’s a good chance for her to make it in the Senate. Her husband, Manny Villar, is on his last term.

Transportation Secretary Mar Roxas is number five in the survey, which is good position if all he wants is to return to the Senate.

But number 5 is not a good indication if he has presidential plans in 2016. If he can’t get past Jack Enrile (I wonder if people who chose him in the survey knew that he is not Senate president Juan Ponce Enrile), Cayetano, Legarda, and Escudero for the Senate, how can he beat Vice President jejomar Binay, who has a high approval rating of 81 per cent, way above President Aquino’s 67 per cent?

Roxas not running in 2013 should free up a slot in the Magic 12.

At the beginning of the formation of the United Nationalist Alliance, the names of Escudero and Legarda, were floated as leading the new political party’s senatorial ticket, which would have really made the UNA ticket formidable. Last month, however, Navotas Rep. Toby Tiangco,UNA secretary general, released the first five UNA senatorial candidates namely include Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III (no. 7 in Pulse Asia’s survey) , San Juan Rep. JV Ejercito (#8); Joey de Venecia (#17); Sen. Gregorio Honasan (#6) and Cagayan Rep. Jack Enrile (#4).

It was also announced that UNA will be an alliance of just two parties Joseph Estrada’s Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino and Binay’s PDP-Laban.

Sources said NPC’s founder and guiding spirit, businessman Eduardo Cojuangco, Jr. and his nephew, President Aquino talked and it was agreed that the two re-electionists frontrunners would run under the administration ticket.

When Binay met with Cojuangco, the latter reportedly told the vice president about his talk with Aquino adding that, “It’s only now that our family relations are being rebuilt.”

That explains the absence of Escudero and Legarda in the UNA ticket.

I suppose Rep. Enrile, who was with NPC, would join his father’s party, PMP just like Juan Miguel Zubiri (#10) and Zambales Rep. Mitos Magsaysay (#25), formerly of Gloria Arroyo’s Lakas-Kampi.

Meanwhile, Koko Pimentel released his letter to Estrada saying, he can’t run with Zubiri, who cheated him in the 2007 elections, in the same ticket. He admitted that he needs the help of UNA in order to win in 2013 because of scarcity of funds, logistics and campaigners.

“But if UNA requires me to run with an election cheat before help is extended to me, then I am prepared to lose, for as long as I remain true to what I passionately believe in,” Pimentel said.

Does this mean he will run under the administration team?

Customs Commissioner Rossano Ruffino “Ruffy” Biazon (#16) and former Akbayan Rep. Risa Hontiveros (#24), who placed #13 and #14, respectively, in the 2010 senatorial elections will have to work extra hard to make it to the winning circle this time.

Those who are outside Cirle 25 like Deputy Customes Commissioner Danilo Lim (#27, Presidential Adviser on Environmental Concerns Nereus “Neric” Acosta (#30), Reps. Lorenzo “Erin” Tañada (#35), Emmanuel Joel Villanueva (#36), Teddy Casiño (38), Danton Remoto (44) better re-assess their 2013 plans.

Pulse Asia conducted the survey last May 20 through 26, towards the end of the impeachment trial of Chief Justice Renato Corona. They listed 44 names from which the respondents chose.

I asked Ronald Holmes, president Pulse Asia, the criteria used in including the names in the survey list. He said the “names mentioned as possible contenders by groups, as reported in media. Less than a handful of personalities were added to test electoral preference for these personalities.”

I asked, why was the name of Justice Secretary Leila De lima not included in the list. He replied, “De Lima did not appear in last two reports of ‘LP slate.’”

As we all know, De Lima has changed her target from legislature to judiciary.

I thought Trillanes was included in Noynoy’s list. As an independent candidate (as of now) at #9, not bad at all.

  2. Chi,he is included in the administration’s coalition ticket as an independent (without a party).

Same thing as in 2007. He was in the Genuine Opposition ticket as an “independent.”

I’m not surprised Erap by Erap’s politics but I expected more from Binay.

“Kahit sino na lang pinupulot ni Erap at Binay.” Hahahaha!

Kaya nga si Koko dapat hindi maglumuhod na isali sya sa UNA, dapat kumaripas pa sya ng takbo palayo sa kanila.

Villar Foundation TV commercial on coconet weaving starring Cynthia Villar made its run last summer.

Expect another weaving (possibly water lily) when Las Piñas again hosts the Water Lily Festival.

Livelihood project infomercials to sustain the life of the governed and, of course, the politician.

Don’t forget the OFW projects the Villars will soon banner on mainstream media. (We already had a preview of a “campaign speech” last May 29 when Manny delivered his impeachment verdict.)

But don’t you dare accuse Cynthia of “premature election campaigning” because there is no such thing as premature campaigning when election campaign season is not yet ongoing and there are no official candidates yet. That’s according to a J. Carpio ponencia in November 2009 (G.R. No.  181613).

Kulang sa yakap and sipsip ang mga Zubiris when Migs resigned and tried to “mend” with Koko. They should have strengthened that “drama.”

Tingin ko rin, Migz should have provided Koko the smoking gun to the electoral fraud so Koko can be the hero to all in the 2007 election. (of course that’s tantamount to Migz admitting and also betraying GMA).

Either that or di nabayaran or di mababayaran si Koko.

Koko, just stop talking. Quit the UNA. Like i said, MaUNA ka na umalis sa coalition.

Sincerely, I wish Binay and Erap’s coalition fails. Its a coalition of hasbeen, wannabes, and kaimitos (no pun intended).

    @datinglalaki

encourage your brod to file charges to regain “ill-gotten” wealth.

puro naman padaplis lang ang alam. is that all your sources have? empty? hangin lang? walang laman?

  9. xman xman

Trillanes, muntik muna kaming maisahan ah.

“A few senators, among them, Antonio “Sonny” Trillanes, issued a waiver on the confidentiality of his bank accounts, but the waiver was conditional and only allowed the Ombudsman to look into his bank accounts but only when there is an investigation on him.”

Philo 101 lann yan!

Si Corona ay napilitan lang, oooppps nalisat pala dahil na corner na kaya nagbigay ng unconditonal waiver a day after his earth shaking performance—the Coronavela.

  11. chi chi

    entiende?

  14. chijap chijap

    “forensic accountants” ?

haha So in your own works you admit Corona has that tendency to lie and cheat his way out of a situation.

So why sign something a cheat would write up?

    comprende?

Mr. Chi #5 do you have an idea who really is this Mr. Xman #8. I am not implying anything, pero nagtataka lang ako kung bakit most of the time he/she is always pasalungat or against sa nakararaming bloger dito sa site ni Mam ellen. It’s good that the moderator of this site is broad minded kaya walang delete.

Jojo, I have no idea pero mabuti na rin na nadyan sya, parang buhay na buhay si Luli dito sa Ellenville. 🙂

@jojo that’s how democracy works in ellen’s blog. Kahit out of topic na minsan si formerboy with matching plugging pa ng kabilang website no say siya. That’s a prerogative of our kind host.

He caught the imagination not just of the masses but the intelligentsia too.

While we’re at it, how about including Corona in the Pro-Gloria ticket? Let his fans put their money where their mouth is.

  21. chi chi

Corona in the Pro-Gloria ticket? Approve without thinking! 🙂

  22. Jojo and Dan, as a journalist I value freedom of expression. But I also believe that we should be responsible with that freedom.

I have deleted some comments of Xman and I think he understands.

I encourage discussion for a better understanding of issues. I won’t tolerate personal insults. It does not benefit mankind.

Nice idea, Tongue. I’m pretty sure their mouth will be full of their money come election time. Even if they know Corona is perpetually disqualified from holding any government position so therefore can’t sit as senator if he wins, :).

    They will vote for him.

#22 . Farinas vs Corona in a debate … Now that is worth seeing.
I am almost certain may makikita silang legal loophole to allow Corona to run for senate incase gugustuhin niya.

  25. Phil Cruz Phil Cruz

Corona for Senator? Puede sa slate ni Binay? Si VP Atat kasi walang kibo all throughout the impeachment of Corona. Pero may kibo sa all other matters not concerning Corona.

  26. certifiedwaray certifiedwaray

I am afraid Binay might end up getting allies of CGMA.If LP coalesce w/ NPC,NP, & LDP, Binay’s journey for the Presidency will be as hard as unifying Pimentel & Zubiri.

UNA stands by decision to include Zubiri
MANILA, Philippines (1st UPDATE) – The United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) on Monday formally endorsed former Senator Juan Miguel ‘Migz’ Zubiri as part of its senatorial slate in 2013, leaving the fate of Senator Aquilino ‘Koko’ Pimentel III up in the air. http://www.abs-cbnnews. com
    __

    What now Koko?

  28. chi chi

  29. Statement from the office of Koko Pimentel on UNA’s formal inclusion of Migz:

“Senator Koko Pimentel will consult with his partymates in PDP Laban & his personal supporters & friends to discuss his next move after the UNA officially proclaimed Mr. Migz Zubiri as part of the UNA senatorial slate.

“Senator Koko has stated that in conscience he cannot run with Migz Zubiri in the same slate.”

  30. Phil Cruz Phil Cruz

Koko said he was “looking for a gem of an idea” or some “earthshaking, wonderful advice’’ on how to resolve the situation he was in.

How about this, Koko?: “Erap, Binay and Enrile have been slapping you around in public and you still don’t get it? What are you? A masochist?”

  31. chi chi

Yes, Phil…as if Koko is already sorry for his letter, he thought Binay loved him more than Migz.

Ayayayay! Koko is now the one in a quandary.

  32. Koko is loving being the underdog. Keeping him posted up there in the news, on the losing end but in a positive atmosphere will surely save him some of the millions of pesos presently in Zubiri’s advantage. In a few days, they will be even. Some more days in the news, and Koko overtakes him.
