Updates on the manifesto of support for BG Danny Lim

BGen Danny Lim’s reaction released through his lawyer, Vicente Verdadero:

I am humbled by this expression of support.

Not one to shirk away from the challenges and responsibilities, I accept the mantle of leadership bestowed upon me by the collective wisdom of the leaders and followers of the various reformist groups.

I will do justice to the trust and I commit myself to the attainment of the aspirations for a country of peace,progress and prosperity.

Statement of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, through its spokesman Lt. Col. Ernesto Torres:

1.It is the inherent right of everyone to express his thoughts and his support to anyone or anything as an invocation of freedom of expression;

Three years ago

Three years ago, on this day, there were talks of restlessness in the military as more first-hand accounts of how the military was used as cheating operators in the 2004 elections were being shared by the soldiers themselves.

Eight months earlier, on June 6, 2005 then Press Secretary Ignacio Bunye revealed the existence of a taped conversation between Gloria Arroyo and then Comelec Commissioner Virgilio Garcillano about manipulating the results of the election in Muslim Mindanao to offset the huge lead posted by opposition candidate Fernando Poe Jr. in Luzon.

Gloria Arroyo apologized on TV for “talking to an election officer” which is prohibited by law. “A confessed felon,” lawyer Francisco Chavez said.

Declaration of Unity and Solidarity

llim-sodalirity

We, the undersigned, hereby officially declare that we have formally united under the leadership of BGen. Danilo “Danny” Lim.

We have agreed to unite for the following reasons:

We aspire for the collective vision of a country of peace, progress and prosperity;
We are fully aware that our country is slowly being engulfed by the fires of poverty, war and corruption;
We concede the need to strengthen our ranks in the face of a ruthless enemy;
We recognize our people’s longing for change and their desire for a new breed of leader.

We have chosen BGen. Danilo “Danny” Lim for the following reasons:

Usapang “new media” sa Baguio

Sign of the times

Yesterday, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency acquired 195 new intelligence officers with the graduation of the new batch of cadets at the PDEA Academy.

In his speech before the new graduates, Parañaque Rep.Roilo Golez said they are entering a career of risk, honor, glory and high mission.

“The campaign on illegal drugs is the moral equivalent of war. It’s a tougher war than war against the NPA, the secessionist movement and the Abu Sayyaf. More than 4,000 barangays, 50 per cent of them in the National Capital Region, are effected by the menace of drugs. Seventy-five per cent of major crimes in the NCR are drug related. This is a serious public order problem,” Golez said.

Miriam ‘loses’ road rigging contract probe

Blue Ribbon likely to take over investigation

Malaya

miriam-santiago The Senate economic affairs panel chaired by Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago will no longer investigate the criminal side of the World Bank report on alleged collusion and bribery in government infrastructure projects and will instead focus on the report’s economic implications.

Santiago said this was the consensus reached by the majority bloc in a caucus called yesterday after some senators complained that last week’s hearing turned into a forum for bashing the World Bank.

“The first item is, pursuant to my recommendation, the Senate economic affairs committee will no longer issue subpoena to the country director of the WB,” Santiago said.

Reklamo sa Meralco

FEB. 16, 2009

The people’s fury

Never mind Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile and Sen. Miriam Santiago. We know them to be allies of Gloria Arroyo (or whoever will serve their interest).

But it was painful to see Sen. Aquilino Pimentel, who fought the Marcos tyranny and was a victim of electoral cheating, spouting the same line as Enrile and Santiago putting the pressure on the World Bank, which exposed the rigging of bids in the public works it finances, instead of Finance Secretary Gary Teves and Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez who, by their non-action, protected Gloria Arroyo, Mike Arroyo and other crooks named in the WB report.

I texted Sen. Pimentel telling him of my disappointment about his role in last Thursday’s Senate hearing and this was his reply:

“Sorry, dear Ellen, for creating the misimpression. That’s the last I’d do: protect GMA and company.
