Miranda, Lim, Querubin and 14 others won’t be released

A military court yesterday denied a motion of 17 military > officers, including two senatoriables, to dismiss the mutiny charges filed against them in connection with the alleged plan to overthrow the Arroyo government in February 2006.

The court did not buy into the contention of the accused, through their counsels, that the prosecution’s evidence against them are weak to sustain the charge of violation of
Article of war 67 (mutiny).

“After due deliberation, the court resolved to deny the motion of the accused,” said the ruling, read by law member Col. Marian Aleido, in dismissing the motion for finding of
not guilty.

Bukas (Oct. 28) na raw ang deklarasyon ni Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero para sa kanyang kandidatura para presidente.

Dapat matuloy na itong kanyang deklarasyon dahil sa kanyang kaka-postpone, akala tuloy ng marami hindi na siya matutuloy. Lalo pa ang kanyang original political team na kinabibilangan ni dating senador Serge Osmeña, advertising executive na si Yolly Ong, at political adviser na si Malou Tiquia ay umalis na sa kanya.

Ang asawa kasi ni Osmeña ay si Bettina Lopez. Siyempre kapag Lopez, Noynoy Aquino yun. Malaki ang utang na loob ng mga Lopez kay dating Pangulong Cory Aquino, na ibinalik sa kanila ang Meralco at ABS-CBN na kinumpiska ni Ferdinand Marcos nang siya ay nagdeklara ng martial law.

Prosecution blocks release of 11 acquitted officers

The prosecution in the court martial of the 28 officers charged with mutiny in connection with the February 2006 alleged withdrawal of support from Gloria Arroyo is blocking the release of the 11 officers acquitted last Oct. 15.

Trial Judge Advocate Lt. Col. Feliciano Loy said last Oct. 21, he asked for the nullification of the court’s decision acquitting the 11 of the 28 respondents and moved to “reopen to adduce additional evidence.”

Loy said in his motion, he said the court headed by Maj. Gen. Jogy Fojas denied the prosecution due process when it ruled on the motion of the defendants for a ruling of not guilty on the same day the accused submitted their respective “Motion for the Finding of Not Guilty.”

Samahang Magdalo chooses Chiz

It was good to see those young military officers again assembled in one place, still speaking and yearning for reforms in government.

Their symbol, the sunburst, was everywhere. They wore it proud on their black shirts. It was also plastered on the walls of the UP Hostel where the Samahang Magdalo was holding its first national convention.

There were some 600 delegates representing 375 chapters all over the country.

Ang susuportahan ng Magdalo para presidente

Samahang Magdalo will support the presidential bid of Sen. Francis Escudero.

This was announced this morning by Magdalo Party Secretary General Francisco Ashley Acedillo after the first Magdalo national convention held at the UP hostel.

Sino kaya ang susuportahan ng Samahang Magdalo para presidente? Siyempre oposisyun ang kanilang pagpipilian. Hindi naman pwedeng ang kandidato ni Gloria Arroyo na si Gilbert Teodoro.

Mamimili sila kay Chiz Escudero, Noynoy Aquino, at Manny Villar.

Sa aking pag-uusap sa karamihan sa kanila, ang pinagpipilian ay sa pagitan ni Chiz at ni Noynoy. Basa ko mas kiling sila kay Chiz dahil sa kanyang kongkretong programa sa pagreporma ng pagpatakbo ng pamahalaan.

BIR imposes 5 % tax on campaign contributions and expenditures

All contributions to political campaigns will be taxed five percent, the Bureau of Internal Revenue said Friday.

BIR Commissioner Sixto S. Esquivias IV announced that the newly issued Revenue Regulations No. 8-09 requires all political candidates/parties/contributors to withhold a 5% withholding tax on their campaign expenditures and contributions.

The new regulations also require all political candidates, parties and candidates to register with the BIR as a withholding agent.

ARMM: vote reservoir

Last Wednesday morning, the last day of our three-day seminar-workshop in Cagayan de Oro on “Preparing for the 2010 Election” organized by the Philippine Press Institute and supported by The Coca-Cola Export Corporation, Carol Arguillas and Froilan Gallardo of Mindanews, were nowhere to be seen.

The day before, Carol made a presentation on “Elections and Peace in Mindanao” which disturbed many of us.

We were told that Carol and Froilan had to leave for Marawi City in Lanao del Sur early morning because of the incident of grenade explosion Tuesday afternoon that killed three and injured about 20 persons. We saw Carol and Froilan in the afternoon looking weary, from the interviews they did with the injured and other witnesses to the explosion.

Mga tanong sa likud ng bombahan sa Marawi

CAGAYAN DE ORO–Noong Martes ng hapon isang granada ang sumabog malapit sa City Hall ng Marawi City na ikinamatay ng isang tao at nasugatan naman ang mga 20.

Ayon Mindanews, sinabi raw ng mga nag imbestiga na mga opisyal na itinapon ng mga di-kilalang mga lalaki ang granada mga 50 metro nag layo sa opisina ng Commission on Election kung saan may ginagawang registration ng mga botante.

Sabi ni Carol Arguillas, publisher ng Mindanews, tinitiyak pa nila ang impormasyon na ang mga nagre-register ay galing sa Linamon, Lanao del Norte.

Nakakapagtaka ito kasi bakit ang mga taga Lanao del Norte ay nasa Marawi nagpa-paregister? Flying voters?
