A mouse story

The November 29 Manila Peninsula incident showed the depth of the Filipinos’ apathy.

Many of us think that we can remain unaffected by Gloria Arroyo’s cheating, lying and stealing to remain in power as long as we go on with our daily toil. Read this Mouse’s story.

“A mouse looked through the crack in the wall to see the farmer and his wife open a package.

The problem with lying

Documents speak for themselves

The problem with lying is that once you start, it’s difficult to stop because you have to commit more lies to cover up the original lie.

And in the process of endless cover up, truth manages to come out.

That’s what happened to the unconfirmed Brig. Gen. Jonathan Martir (his appointment to brigadier general is “ad interim”).

Ambassador to Spain seeking Spanish citizenship?

Update: Bernardo denies applying for Spanish citizenship.

He said. “A check with the Spanish embassy on the veracity of this statement will certainly substantiate my claim.”

He did not apply with the Spanish embassy in Manila. His letter was addressed to Sr. Mendez, then a member of the Spanish parliament who is also a member ofthe cabinet.

Powerless

The time and the setting they chose were most appropriate. Led by the erudite Oscar Cruz, D.D., Archbishop of Lingayen-Dagupan, friends and concerned citizens trooped to the Rajah Sulayman Park fronting Manila Bay Friday last week. Before the Christmas season with its message of joy, thanksgiving and hope dawns upon the nation, these friends chose to “rage against the dying of the light”.

Erap pardon fails to lift Gloria satisfaction rating, says SWS survey

by Regina Bengco

President Arroyo’s grant of conditional pardon to former president Joseph Estrada in October did not improve her satisfaction rating, even among those who believed that the pardon was “good for the country,” the November 30-December 3 survey of the Social Weather Stations showed.

Estrada was granted conditional pardon on October 25 for the crime of plunder.

The survey, which had 1,200 respondents, found that 54 percent agreed that the grant of pardon to Estrada was good for the country compared to 23 percent who disagreed.

The police unit that assaulted the Manila Peninsula hotel to quell an attempted uprising last November 29 should be slapped with charges for arresting, detaining, and manhandling journalists covering the incident, Senator Francis Escudero said Tuesday.

“The medals they received were commendations for protecting not the people but the President [Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo] only and for that they should be condemned for violating their oath to serve the people and defend the Constitution,” Escudero said.
