Thanks to Inquirer for this photo

Lacson agrees with SC order in favor of Mike Arroyo

Even Mike Arroyo’s nemesis, Sen. Panfilo “Ping” Lacson agreed with the Supreme Court’s grant of temporary restraining order against putting him (Arroyo) on the watch list restricting his right to travel.

“I myself am not in favor of the watch list. That’s tantamount to a hold-departure order without saying that it is one,” Lacson said.

Lacson said putting Arroyo on the watch list showed an “arrogance of power,” noting that Mike had to regularly seek permission from De Lima each time he would leave the country.

Inquirer’s report:

Former first gentleman Jose Miguel “Mike” Arroyo is now free to travel anywhere in the world.

Sabi niya:“To my detractors, I’m back. You should be ashamed for peddling lies to the public while I was away,” he said at a press conference at the airport.

Former First Gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo arrived in Manila on Monday after a medical check-up in Hong Kong last week, saying he is now ready to defend himself from accusations leveled against him by his detractors.

“To my detractors, I’m back. You should be ashamed for peddling lies to the public while I was away,” he said at a press conference at the airport.

He said he is ready to face all accusations hurled against him by what he called a “dictatorial” administration.

Arroyo said he would take legal action against the Aquino government for placing him on the immigration watch list, saying it violates his constitutional right to travel.

The untouchable Jesus Verzosa

Former PNP Chief Jesus Verzosa and Chief Supt. George Piano.
Is it believable that then Philippine National Police Chief, Jesus Versoza, signed the documents for the purchase of three new helicopters in the amount of P104.9 million without knowing that two of those aircraft were second-hand and previously owned by Mike Arroyo, husband of Gloria Arroyo?

Is it also believable that Mike Arroyo would decide to involve PNP in this anomalous deal without making sure that the PNP chief is into his scheme?

The seemingly velvet glove treatment of Verzosa in this anomalous deal that cost the reportedly cash-trapped PNP, and in a larger picture, the Filipino people millions of pesos, is intriguing and disturbing.

Doctors said Arroyo has been told to rest at her house for a month. She also was told to rest her voice. Doctors said there are no complications from her cervical spine surgery. However, she lost her voice after her vocal cords got swollen after she started to receive visitors last Wednesday.

“Her vocal chords were swollen and until now are swollen not because of complication in the surgery but they were strained because of use of cellphones,” Cervantes said.

Mayor Jerry Pelayo of Candaba, Pampanga, a close Arroyo ally, Arroyo is prohibited from talking, reading newspapers and watching television.

Mike Arroyo flies to Hongkong; may face contempt charges

Noose is tightening
Former first gentleman Jose Miguel “Mike” Arroyo, who left for Hong Kong last Sunday, may face contempt charges if he fails to appear before the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, Senator Franklin Drilon said.

But I don’t think he should do that because, as we say, flight is evidence of guilt,” Drilon said.

The Senate Blue Ribbon Committee said putting Arroyo on the immigration watch list would be pointless since he has already left the country.

This was in response to reports that the Department of Justice is drafting an order to place Arroyo under the immigration watch list.

“I instructed Chief [Justice Ricardo] Paras first to confirm officially if there is really a request from the Senate because it was reported in the media na there’s a request from certain senators to put him on watch list. So once that is verified, then I am inclined to issue a WLO (watch list order),” Justice Secretary Leila de Lima said.

‘Jose Miguel Arroyo owned helicopters’

Businessman to testify in Senate probe

Two five-year old helicopters sold as brand new to the Philippine National Police in 2009 were among the five choppers that then First Gentleman Jose Miguel “Mike” Arroyo acquired for the campaign of his wife, then President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, in the 2004 presidential election.

This was disclosed by a businessman, who was privy to the sale of the helicopters to Mike Arroyo in late 2003. The businessman is scheduled to appear as a witness at a hearing of the Senate blue ribbon committee on Tuesday.

The Inquirer tried to contact Sunday night Raul Lambino, lawyer and spokesperson of the Arroyos, to get his side but did not get any response.

SC junks Mike Arroyo petition vs. journalists

The Supreme Court has junked a petition filed by Jose Miguel Arroyo, husband of Gloria Arroyo, which sought to dismiss the damage suit filed against him by a group of journalists whom he hauled to court for libel.

In a minute resolution, the Supreme Court ruled that the Court of Appeals did not commit a reversible error in sustaining the ruling of Judge Zenaida Galapate Laguilles of the Regional Trial Court of Makati City, Branch 143.

Judge Galapate-Laguilles had previously denied the presidential spouse’s motion to dismiss the P12.5-million class suit. The First Gentleman cited the failure of the journalists to immediately answer the written interrogatory within the prescribed extended period.
