Querubin registers as voter in La Union

Early this morning, with the permission of AFP Chief Victor Ibrado, Col. Ariel Querubin traveled to La Union to register as a voter in preparation for his bid for a Senate seat in the 2010 election.

Take note of the streamer with Capt. Dante Langkit, who was also allowed to travel to his hometown in Kalinga, Apayao.

Langkit, who is detained at the Philippine Army Intelligence Security Group compound, plans to run for a congressional seat.

  1. Go gentlemen go!

Show those shitheads in Malacanang what stern moral stuff you’re made of…

    I say, give them hell!

  2. It’s good to remember that military officers by training — they are trained to be leaders first and foremost, and not just to fight (to fight in combat comes as a consequence of that leaderhsip training) and thereafter by vocation, are supposed to be natural leaders of men (and by extension of women too).

As ever, you have good and bad leaders. And those who become bad leaders lose their moral courage along the way. However, those who have not lost their moral courage (physical courage is almost incidental in the realm of courage) are fit to continue in the role that befits them, that of leaders of men.

So, I don’t find it out of the extraordinary when good military officers decide to fight their enemies in the political arena to be selected, chosen for the leadership task.

  3. Querubin’s and Langkit’s streamer reminds me of the story of Edong Ermita when he first ran for Congress.

His friends in our province of Batangas prepared a welcome treat for him with a THE HUGEST streamers and BILLBOARDS you could find!

At the entrance of the province where Ermita was supposed to go through, there was one GIGANTIC billboard announcing:

    WELCOME LT GENERAL EDUARDO ERMITA
    Son of Batangas
Future Congressman (or something to that effect)

and enumerating all his exploits including something which was only half true VIETNAM VETERAN (as if he had fought in battle in Vietnam when in fact he was part of PhilCag and never saw combat)…

He was soooo proud to see his image blown up 1,000 times. He would repeat the story to me over and over.

And see where that got him — into the arms of a duwende!

    Anna,

Nagkamali pala kami dahil napulpol.

Ganu’n din si Hernando Perez. Mga mukhang salapi pala’t walang paninindigan!

  5. Habib,

    Are you also from Batabgas?

  6. Ooops, Batangas.

  7. I share your attitude towards military officers going into politics. I don’t share the concern of some people that they would be rigid and undemocratic.

I observed that they are natural leaders and organizers, skills needed in governance.

  8. Capt. Langkit is the officer who was in solitary confinement (bartolina) for more than ten months.

  9. chi chi

Gentlemen, yehey to both of you! Go! Go! Go!

  10. parasabayan parasabayan

Anna, this is a big problem really for these generals. Some of them lose their virtues as they go up. Sana naman hindi ganun si Col Querubin. But we have to just give it a try to have him serve.

  11. marlon marlon

mga taong may pagmamahal at malasakit sa taum bayan at higit sa lahat may takot sa dios. go go go go go.

  12. parasabayan parasabayan

My gauge is, here is a man who has everything going for him. He already died in 1989, incarcerated twice, thrown off track in the process but got himself on track again to even get the ultimate medal of valor and the 2nd highest position in the marines, Brigade Commander. Had he not protested the 2004 cheating operations of the putot, he would probably have a shot at the CS. But he could not stomach the bastardization of his institution, the AFP, by the pandak ang her husband who used the military to cheat in the 2004 elections for them. He was the putot’s “hero” and would have easily gotten what he wanted, maybe even side by side with asspweron, reyes, ebdame, mayuga and et al. He has free housing and other perks. He has everything going for him but he opted to rebel again to side with the truth.

  13. Balweg Balweg

We are hoping na sina Col. Querubin and other Katipuneros e maging magandang example sa mga nagnanais na maging leader ng ating bayan. Yong mga balimbing at hudas sa ating gobyerno de bobo e mangahiya na sa sarili sapagka’t wala silang breeding to lead our country most.

  14. Ellen,

  15. PSB,

“Anna, this is a big problem really for these generals. Some of them lose their virtues as they go up”

    Agree completely!

  16. Balweg Balweg

Sasainyo ang aming buong suporta HON. COL. Querubin and co.

Mabuhay ka SENATOR QUERUBIN…GOD BLESS YOU!

  17. I am not against soldiers serving in other gov’t positions, in fact, I welcome it being an equal-opportunity advocate. BUT they must be qualified. No square pegs in round holes.

Many ex-soldiers are highly qualified, I know quite a number of high-ranking officers who hold Masters Degrees earned from top foreign universities.

  18. parasabayan parasabayan

Tongue, personally, I encourage all of the detained to run for office locally. Sigurado silang mananalo kahit na walang perang pangampanya. But to do this, once they file for candidacy, they will have to leave the service. This may be the tough part. The campaign period takes anywhere from 6 to 8 months. Without the financial support of relatives and friends, how will they survive. But if these incarcerated have the passion to serve, there is no better time than now to run. He knows his chances are greater to win kahit na wala siyang nakalaang campaign funds. He knows the people who believe in GENUINE CHANGE will vote for him kahit na walang “padulas”. As early as now, many of his friends and family are willing to watch that his votes are guarded and no ballot switching nor tampering will occur. The putot and her cheating machinery can try, but the PEOPLE’S WILL shall prevail. Except for Mindanao where Zubiri won, thanks to the soup at a posh hotel for the crook Abalos, this POLITICAL WILL has already manifested itself in the 2007 elections. Sana naman it will continue into the 2010 elections.

  19. Boyner Boyner

The Filipino people must realize that most of the traditional politicians have failed them in making their lives better and should therefore be replaced with idealistic and patriotic people like Danny Lim, Ariel Querubin and Dante Langkit. Those who stand for the TRUTH, who have honor, integrity and the guts to fight for what is right and good for the country and the Filipino people.

  20. parasabayan parasabayan

I know some retired generals who are still renting in the barong barong. I am very closely related to one. He had a chance to enrich himeself but he DID NOT. I am so proud of him! Yung sasakyan niya eh tagpi-tagpiat kakarag karag pa. But he sleeps well at night and goes around freely. Wala siyang atraso.

  21. parasabayan parasabayan

Just read in the papers that there is again an anomaly in the “Balikatan” funds of those in Mindanao. The supposed daily allowance of the soldiers were paid out to someone but the soldiesr are not getting any. Grabe talaga! So the higher officers of the AFP are just following their predecessors.

To the DND Chief, instead of running for Presidency under the saya of the most corrupt president, why don’t you eradicate the corruption in the military.

  22. Rose Rose

Sana lahat ng Tanay boys ay kakandidato as local, and provincial levels..lahat sila ay magtratrabajo sa loob ng cells..sana..it could happen and should happen! Let us all support them..votes, prayers, etc. let us all be united and dump Gloria and Company..

  23. habib habib

    Anna,

Matagal na akong sumusubaybay dito sa ET at isa si Ellen sa mga hinahangaan at iginagalang kong journalists although there was one period of time na nagkasalungat ang aming paniniwala dahil sa hindi pagkakaintindihan but I believe na we both were and are for truth.

  24. Valdemar Valdemar

I still think soldiers are much better to take over all positions in the government. I am nearly now convinced that civilians are second class citizen.

Good! Kailangang maipadala ang mga feelers sa mga media dito para masibak ang unggoy re the pending US moneylaundering case. Information, please, anyone?

  26. I still think soldiers are much better to take over all positions in the government.

I showed this comment to my Burmese friend.

No bilib ako!

  28. parasabayan parasabayan

Yuko, I agree with you 100% that civilian rule is still better than military. It is ok though for military officers to handle key positions as they really are trained to be leaders. But other countries which transformed into more progressive countries somehow had military rule at one point and it was during those rules that they accomplished a lot in developing their countries. Burma is just an exception. Kaya siguro ganyan ang comment ni Valdemar.

  29. parasabayan parasabayan

It is just so bad that in pandak’s regime, she has prostituted our generals. And any military officer who is assocaited with her automatically gets a failing grade.

  30. Liwayway-Gawgaw Liwayway-Gawgaw

    Ipinangangalandakang doctorate? Masters? Post graduate?

    Ewan!

  31. parasabayan parasabayan

You are right Starch! Honesty is also a must. Besides, we are exporters of the best manpower in the world. Marami tayong magagaling at edukadong mamamayan. Bakit hindi tayo mamili ng mga mahuhusay. Marami naman tayong pamimilian.

  32. Liwayway-Gawgaw Liwayway-Gawgaw

As ususal, magaling talaga ang Japan! Pusta kayo?

  33. Liwayway-Gawgaw Liwayway-Gawgaw

    As usual…….

  34. parasabayan parasabayan

Ambisyosa si Loren. I do not think she will settle for VP again. Pwede pa si Chiz na papayag mag-VP. But another woman Prez?

  35. The best way to reform the system is to fight within that system.

  36. caduceus caduceus

Good Luck & God Bless Col…. the Philippines need people like you..There’s still hope for our country after all… Our Prayers for you..See you in the senate!!!

  37. Re: “Yuko, I agree with you 100% that civilian rule is still better than military.”

Agree too. Civilian rule should be and must be the democratic order of things.

Military rule is hardly ever democratic. By definition, military operates under martial or restrictive conditions implying severe and often, harsh discipline, hence, military rule is anathema to a free flowing run of society.

But the occupying of positions in key areas of govt by military officers (or ordinary soldiers) in a democratic setting is hardly military rule.

As PSB said, there have been examples of nations, eg., in Europe, that were run under military rule (most recent in Europe was Generalissimo Franco’s ‘junta’in Spain), but this happened usually (or only) in time of national crisis, social upheavals or war but as a rule, it is not wise to continue with military rule — people or society, by nature, do not relish being restricted martially.

But history have shown that good military leaders have also performed to excellent standards as national leaders in full democratic settings, i.e., post war. They understand that national troubles can lead to even worse crises.

Some names come to mind: General Wellington who is said to have been the best prime minister Britain ever had, General de Gaulle, father of modern France, General Eisenhower, and even John F Kennedy who hated the idea of war, as well as George Bush Sr, (both served as junior officers during WW2), etc.

  38. Balweg Balweg

    Father Balweg,

Thanks for acknowledgment. Been reading you since but you evaporated for a while like my favourite milk. I know you are an FBI.

    Am I right, kabagis?

  41. “The best way to reform the system is to fight within that system.” — Sumpit

I believe that in theory, yesss! In practice? Easier said than done. Extremely difficult, especially when that system is heavily laden with crabs.

It’s given that when people (not just one individual) are determined to fight from within the system in order to reform that system, they will eventually succeed.

Other countries have shown it can be done, so why not in the Philippines? But it must be willed, and of course, there must be a certain measure of unity.

But it seems that even well-intentioned Filipinos have a hard time understanding this concept of “United we stand, divided we fall” concept. Proof? Even the military which, by definition, is supposed to be operating in cohesion for the good of the nation, as in lockstep, is greatly fractionned. (Only the ill-intentionned Filipinos of this country, it seems, march in lockstep.)

  42. “(Only the ill-intentionned Filipinos of this country, it seems, march in lockstep.)” And that’s why they are succeeding.

  43. norpil norpil

i think it is great that persons with outstanding military background are positioning themselves as politicians.if outstanding boxers, priests, actors or whatever can manage, certainly ex soldiers can do it with valor and glory.

  44. Balweg Balweg

We need to be vigilant and attentive sa ikinikos ng mga iyan. Ang puwersa ng Migrant Pinoys at OFWs around the world e kailangang magkaisa upang sabihan ang mga kapamilya sa Pinas na NEVER ng iboboto ang mga kurap at sinungaling.

  45. Danarica Danarica

let’s pray for them na magtagumpay sila sa magaganda nilang layunin. Well kaya mo yan sir AQ, sabi nga sa Bible; “What credit is it if, when you have done evil, you take your punishment quietly? but if you are given punishment for doing right, and take it quietly, this is pleasing to God.” God Bless.

  46. parasabayan parasabayan

The Col fought for us in his own way, incarcerated twice and died but revived. Puro walang BAYAD yan! He fought for his principles. The fight may not be as popular as that of Pacman. But the BIG difference is, Pacman gets MONEY everytime he fights and the Col goes to jail everytime he does. Where is the LEGACY there? I hope that the Filipinos will DISCERN the DIFFERENCE! Kaya kung naiidolo si Pacman, in the same breath, dapat din nating bigyan ng malaking impotansiya ang pagmamalasakit ni Col sa bayan. They both fought but one is COMPENSATED and the other one JAILED. Now, it is our time to COMPENSATE the Col with our votes. It is the least we can do,diba?

  47. Angie Angie

Mabuhay ka Col.Querubin. Tunay na makatao. Down to earth person. God bless. We will support you all the way.

  49. It was back then yr 69, I was a young member of US AFRMED FORCES serving in ‘nam, which I recalled some of PHILCAG soldiers, been called PX GUARDS, due some of them been loittering around at the premises waiting for some previlage holder w/”mickey mouse money”(military payment certificate),to prchase something for them in able them to sell it in black market, you could name anything what they nneed

  50. TruBlue TruBlue

A Chavanez: PHILCAG was non-combatant and it’s a real shame that such attitude existed then. Maybe it was a collateral duty afterwork to stand as “PX Guard”. It’s a good humor nonetheless.

At this point in Philippines politics, who really gives a crap who runs for elected office. This country just needs lots of fair-minded human beings who can turn around the miseries of the millions for the greater good.

  51. habib habib

Kung ganu’n AC, former President General PC/INP Commander CSAFP Fidel Ramos de Tabako was merely a commander of PX guards during their stint in Vietnam?

    And also Ermitae and Almonte?

Sus! Sobra palang eksadyireysion ‘yung exploits daw nila during PHILCAG-V days?

Pati sila David Cooke at David Archuleta. Parehong magandang lalake. Aaminin ko, talo ako nitong dalawa. Sa kantahan.

    Someone wants Rafanan out.

  58. Liwayway-Gawgaw Liwayway-Gawgaw

    Ellen,

Is this Rafanan at “straight” Comelec official or part of Abalos’ circle led by Sarmiento?

  59. Pansin ko nga, Ellen. Fan ka ni Nanay Dionisia sa Facebook. Pero kahit imbitahin ako, di ako pupunta.

Mapagkamalan pa akong si David Cooke.

  60. Ha! ha! ha!Ikaw talaga Tongue.

Liwayway, Rafanan was sidelined in the 2004 and 2007 elections because as Comelec information officer, he criticized Gloria Arroyo’s violation of ban of premature campaign by using Metro Aides to wear shirts with her face emblazoned on it.

  61. Liwayway-Gawgaw Liwayway-Gawgaw

    Aah! I see.

    Gets ko na.

They were trying to ease out Rafanan and most probably, there’s still a group inside Comolect very much attached to Mr. Hamberjer doing this “mission”.

Very nice! Sign of Quetzcoatl gloria’s revenge against anyone going against her.
