Valte feeling presidential

The Pinoy sense of humor in overdrive in social media
After the Pacquiao-Bradley fight that stunned the boxing world, especially Filipinos, Abigail Valte, deputy spokesperson of President Aquino, struck again.

She issued her own statement: “Together, let us pray for Manny’s immediate recovery and return to form. During your next fights, and during the challenges that will undoubtedly come your way in the future, you can certainly count on us to stand by you. Manny is still our one and only People’s Champ; and we are proud of him.”

As a number of journalists remarked, “Feeling.”

What do we care about Valte’s views on anything. We would be interested on the President’s reaction. She is not even the spokesman (who would have the right to issue his own statement).

As deputy presidential spokesman, Valte is supposed to release or read the President’s statement. The public is not interested on her thoughts or feeling about matters of national concern.

Aquino arrived yesterday from the United States and United Kingdom, so I suppose he still has to shake off his jet lag. That would explain his lack of reaction to an event that is of interest to Filipinos not only here but all over the world.

As what happened on the conviction of Supreme Court Justice Renato Corona when Valte beat him by a day in issuing a statement on such an important happening, we expect a statement from him later.

Miriam's take on Pacquaio"s loss to Bradley
By this time, we should just get used to the arrangement that today’s Malacañang has adopted given that we have a deputy spokesperson who is so “atat- na- atat” in imposing her views on matters of national concern to the public while the President takes his own sweet time, composing his thoughts or approving the statement prepared for him.

The downside to that for Malacanang is that journalists who are conscious of protocol would relegate the statement of the Palace down in the story if there’s a statement from other ranking officials.

That’s what ABS-CBN online did. They first quoted Vice President Jejomar Binay saying, “Manny fought hard and has shown he has the true heart of a champion. He remains a source of inspiration for the Filipino people.” They just added Valte’s statement at the end.

I’m not a boxing fan but I enjoy reading about sports.

Comments in social media show how Filipinos coped with the stunning outcome of the yesterday’s fight.

Bagares has another intriguing comment: “Pustahan tayo si Chavit pumusta kay Bradley.”

Ayayay!

I think there’s some truth to the money angle at Pacquaio’s loss. Next time, he’ll win and then the big money against Mayweather. Basketball also has this.

  2. chi chi

  3. chi chi

Got to admit Mani P still go it, but he created too many problems for himself nawalan tuloy ng focus. Ayan, na-split decision tuloy.

For those who believe that MP’s lost was a money matter, my friend Kaka Emil Pablo says: “when the stakes are high it is a dictum that unpopular decision prevails as dictated by very very influential entity…” Remember, the betting odds: Betting on Bradley with $100 would earn $325, unfortunately, a bet of $450 on Pacquiao would only win $100. Return of investment MP was not worth.

It seems Bradley made the right forecast, November will be their rematch.

  5. dan1067 dan1067

Wait……Arum told reporters the rematch will be on November 10. The same date Bradley showed at pre-fight night a huge-size ticket for their rematch Pacquiao/Bradley 2. Money is the root of all evil!

I hope PacMan doesn’t renew his contract with Bob Arum if the story above (#7) is true. Or better yet just retire from boxing so that the big business vultures of boxing will not earn even a single cent at Manny’s expense. 🙂

  8. chi chi

Mike, but it was Arum who has the strongest words about MP’s losing the bout to Bradley.

“Arum, who handles both fighters, did not take the decision sitting down. He had it 10 rounds for Pacquiao. The Filipino’s chief trainer Freddie Roach also scored it 10-2 for his fighter.

An 80-year-old boxing Hall of Famer, Arum called the judges the “three blind mice,” noting that even Roth’s score did not reflect the real outcome of the fight.

“Can you believe that? Unbelievable,” Arum said. “I went over to Bradley before the decision [was announced] and he said, ‘I tried hard but I couldn’t beat the guy.’”

The signs were written on the wall: Ariza and Roach squabbling. Manny and his bible gig.

On the other hand, many felt that this is going to happen – gimmick pala. At any rate, Bradley is not an exciting fighter, not up to pambansang kamao. So, to many, it’s still the pacman, and di lang pinoy all over the world ang concerned/surprised with the decision, all boxing fans! Nevertheless, ‘di na champion si Manny, pero multi $millionaire, so what’s the problem.

Manny should retire and build a cult. Maraming uto-uto at sipsip diyan.

In the end, millions of $$$ are again added to Pakyaw’s wealth, hindi na yan mauubos ni Jinkee at Aleng D. 🙂

Chi, syempre the harsh words kuno against the judges. But take not he never mentioned it was rigged.

  15. Becky Becky

    This Valte is really “Feeling.”

It also reflects the unusual setup in Malacanang where a deputy spokesperson issues her own statement instead of just releasing the statement of the President.

The practice is for the Palace writers to prepare the statement and once the President approves it, they release. I don’t think presidents write all the statements that he issues.

The statement of Valte looks like it’s prepared by professional writers. Why isn’t it released as statement of the President. Why statement of Valte? Sino nga ba siya?

The world watched how Pacman slowing down in the remaining rounds. But still the big picture of conspiracy made clear that “Mafia” in boxing rose again!

    Palubog na si Manny.
    Paakyat na si Bradley.
Nagugulo si Mayweather na hindi nya bata.

All these are things running on someone’s mind.

Having a rematch extends the value of Manny, puts Bradley into the spotlight (as his Manny successor aka the Goose that will lay him golden eggs), and keeps Mayweather outside of the picture for at least half a year.

Guess who this person is. 🙂

  19. chijap chijap

Whenever Valte takes the podium, she does not project a smart person, but rather a bimbo.

Sorry for the language but that’s the best description i can provide Valte.

Maybe Aquino can get someone better?

  20. Phil Cruz Phil Cruz

I agree that Valte should wait for her boss’ statement on such type of events and issues.

She reminds me of somebody who is even more atat-na-atat and issues pronouncements left and right on matters big and small, national and local, left and right, up and down…without waiting for his boss.

  21. We have to give it to Bradley who effectively blocked all of Manny’s punches…

    …with his face. 8(

  22. Phil Cruz Phil Cruz

It was pretty clear Pacquiao won that fight.

But he has reached his peak and is on a downhill slide. He had already been criticized for his controversial win over Marquez. So Roach and he knew this time around it had to be a knockout win. But try as he did, he couldn’t knock Bradley out. Age and lack of focus plus the fixers did him in.

The “fixers” I guess decided that it was time to make big bucks on Manny before he bows out of the ring. And this was it.

So the suspicion is it was the Mafia who fixed the fight.

  23. MPRivera MPRivera

    tsk.. tsk. tsk.

  24. LAS VEGAS – Promoter Bob Arum was still fuming about the split-decision verdict that went against Manny Pacquiao on Saturday and said there would be no rematch with Timothy Bradley unless Nevada attorney general Catherine Cortez Masto launches an investigation.

    Full story: http://goo.gl/UIBAu

  25. MPRivera MPRivera

    traydor!

  26. Many Vegas gamblers were in on the plot. After Bradley tweeted the picture of that tarp poster of Pacquiao vs. Bradley 2 two weeks ago, runaway odds in favor of Pacquiao was prevented, for weeks, stayed on at -432 ($432 bet to win $100 for a Pacquiao win).

Before fight time however, oddsmakers were baffled as to a slew of pro-Bradley heavy bets brought down the odds to just some -387! This must explain the additional delay in the bout.

There is something we don’t know here.

  27. Kunyari pa si Arum na galit.

Does it mean Pacquiao was also part of the plot?

  28. All bets were practically Pacquiao’s. Suddenly a late surge from the other direction. Aside from the oddsmakers and MGM Grand, the betting houses made a killing. So did Arum, Pacman and Bradley. They are the only ones who will get to make money in this match-up TWICE over!

Pacquiao does not need Mayweather anymore for the historic one-time purse. He can spread it into three fights: This one plus part two in November and the final match Pacquiao-Marquez part IV.

This will buy time for his promoter Bob Arum to produce a charismatic heir to the “throne”. Whether it is Bradley, Donaire or some other guy, it’s Arum’s call. The Pacman’s graceful exit follows.

Ellen: Kunyari pa si Arum na galit.

Does it mean Pacquiao was also part of the plot?

I think this is what this “change in religion” talk is all about. A “changed” man would NOT cheat. Nor would Mommy D., now a faith healer, would suddenly change her mind about Manny’s retirement and even push her son to that rematch!

    What a script.

Yeah, this is Bob Arum’s TOP PRANK Promotions.

  29. chi chi

  30. chi chi

  32. saxnviolins saxnviolins

Sa Texas na lang kasi ang laban. The venue is bigger, and therefore, more profitable for the promoters.

The Pacquiao-Clottey fight proves that you do not need a Mexican to face Pacquiao to sell in Texas.

There is no truth to the rumor that the panel of judges will be headed by Renato Corona; even if his perpetual disqualification does not apply to judging boxing matches, or beauty contests.

  33. Amba Amba

Talaga naman ha. Hinde ba alimango type tayong lahat dito?

Ukol kay Valte, who cares? She can blab as much as she wants. She will take the consequences naman.

The fight was not even close. The mistake of Pacman, he did not go for the KO, in that way, there’s no reason for the American judges to render a hometown decision.

There’s nothing new and unpredictable in this case. After all the fight venue was in America and Americans won’t allow one of their own to loss.

Case in point, take a look at what happened in the American Idol contest. We should know better.

America is for Americans, not even to a hyphenated American.

  37. parasabayan parasabayan

When I saw Pacman’s reaction (NONE!) to Bradley’s win, I thought that he was also into the plot of making Bradley win. Kaya nga tatawa-tawa lang siya. If anything, this defeat makes him a “bida” coz he graciously accepted the defeat while all of the people who expected him to win are fuming mad.

Sabi nga ng isang sports commentator, boxing is a dirty sport! Now I know what he means.

  38. Phil Cruz Phil Cruz

Yep, Arum sure is behaving weird.

He is the promoter of both fighters, so why is he at the forefront of the ones protesting so much? I would expect a promoter to be sort of neutral in such conflicts.. leaving it to both camps to argue and deal with it.

Arum, methinks thou dost protest too much.

Unless we have proof that Pacquiao is and knows about the “script”, I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt. Lots of conspiracy theories and everyone seems to be suspect. From Arum, to the judges and now some are insinuating Manny too is somehow involved.

  40. Rudolfo Rudolfo

I am sure if Bradley came from other country, not an American, the 3-judges would voted for Pacman, as overall winner..Another factor, if Bradley is not under Arum’s team, the promoter will not care Bradley..But, many knew, the game was “scripted”, based from many or multiple elements of suspicions-coincidences, before and after the bout..It was lucky for Bradley, he was given the chance of Fame, using Manny Pacman’s shadow of affirmation… Both had a very humble beginnings from poverty…and had beautiful wives or families…What matters, in the “Eyes of the World”, who loves Boxing, Manny is still the declared winner, while Bradley was declared only by the 2-judges, CJ-Ross and Mr. Ford who one of them is even already senile, at 86-years old…We need to hope and wish, Manny is not part of the scripted bout…It would be a very big frustration and mistakes, especially of his dream of becoming a big politician, from congress to Senate, then to Presidency or even to his religious transformation, that needs utmost Honesty and “truth”.. Karma here is very powerful, because its all about Faith or GOD…Baka, ma “wheel chair” din sya, sa bandang huli, mawawala sa kanya ang icon na, ” Pambansang Kamao”..

@#5: Implying rematch post-fight does not in anyway convey sinister plot, it’s their first fight, so it’s just normal after the fight to mention it(usually within six months).

@#7: Wow! The number ONE anti-Pacyaw finally made sense after all his brazen attacks to the eight time champ. Good for you Teddy to have a changed of heart.

@#9: Arum is pretending to be upset.

@#19: Mafia is a thing of the past in Vegas, it’s more of a corporate greed nowadays.

@#29: Today (Jun 12, I talked to my lawyer helping me on my speeding ticket against the Nevada Highway Patrol, and asked him of the “decision”. He said, if Atty Gen Cathy Masto Cortez will do a full blown investigation, it will be at the core of bribery – if those three judges were bribed by you-know-who. Heavy fines and jail times are surely imposed to all involved, AND IF NOTHING comes out of this, well….boxing fans the whole wide-world better find something well worth to bet on.

@#31: -387 most likely never happened. Even at the very last day of betting, Bradley’s odds fluctuated from +300 to +325 on all Vegas casinos (I actually bought my ticket four days before the fight at +325 and another ticket at -190 for a bet “going full 10 rounds”).

@#32: No, MP or Bradley are not in any fixes. Keep in mind Bradley told Arum minutes after the fight that “he tried his best to beat MP”. And even Bradley admitted humbly he lost, but the two judges voted otherwise and the other one voted so closely for MP, something went awry here and I do hope it’s bribery.

Yesterday Jun 11, Arum on local TV said this: there was no rematch clause on the Bradley/Pakyaw fight. Meaning, he was trying to shy away from his post fight comment “I’ll make tons of money in a rematch”. There you go folks….you be the judge. This guy is hiding something big.

By the way, most of my posts at #55 are all my personal takes.

Some of my personal conspiracy theories:

C J Ross was just stewing mad at Howard Lederman, HBO’s judge/scorer (a legimate one and fair minded) on his pre-fight comment that Ross was an inexperienced judge for boxing. Thought that really got in her nerves THUS the huge contrast of their scoring.

Another theory was MP’s prima donna attitude….he was more interested in watching the NBA game finals and his unexplained disappearance which buffled the two judges. Roach tried to explain MP was in a room stretching or warming up.

  48. tru blue tru blue

@#41: “The fight was not even close. The mistake of Pacman, he did not go for the KO, in that way, there’s no reason for the American judges to render a hometown decision.”
