May elections is people versus Arroyo

Malacañang is billing the May senatorial elections as an Erap versus Arroyo fight.

Mike Defensor, presidential chief of staff who is expected to lead the administration’s senatorial ticket said, “It’s too early to say what our chances are but we are confident that once the public realizes that this is all about Arroyo and Estrada, it would understand the issues and not be carried away by the anti-GMA rhetoric.”

That’s what Malacañang wants to bill it to lessen the hostility towards Arroyo. The truth is, the May election is People of the Philippines versus Gloria Arroyo.

The issue is Gloria Arroyo and her cheating, lying and stealing and her utter disregard of the rule of law.Anybody who supports her is an advocate of cheating, lying and stealing and lawlessness. That is the issue. That should be the issue.

Malacañang thinks that if they use the Erap fear factor, Gloria would come out smelling like a rose.

Wrong. They are underestimating the public’s antipathy towards her. They should look at the surveys. Pulse Asia’s July 2006 survey showed 21 million (44 percent) Filipinos disapprove of Arroyo’s performance despite Malacañang’s all out propaganda.

Not only are the people not impressed with her performance, they distrust her. Twenty two and a half million Filipinos (47 per cent) think Gloria Arroyo cannot be trusted.

Pulse Asia said, “No president before her has experienced as extended a period of low public esteem; whereas public disenchantment in terms of low approval and trust ratings generally improve for Philippine presidents within two to three quarters, President Arroyo’s deflated approval and trust ratings have proven less tractable and outright improvements in public assessments of her performance and trustworthiness have been slow in coming.”

It’s worth noting that these surveys were conducted before the bastardized People’s Initiative and Con-Ass, and lately her role in springing convicted American serviceman Daniel Smith out of the Makati jail to please US President Bush, in blatant violation of Philippine laws.

In the SWS survey, her approval rating has remained below zero. SWS’ November 2006 survey showed 47 percent of the Filipinos disapproving of her performance as against 34 percent for a minus 13 rating. That is of course a little better than the minus 33 per cent in May 2005.

Compare that to Estrada’s approval rating even at the time when he was ousted by an elitist “people power” in early 2001 which was plus nine. For all his bungling of the presidency, Estrada never experienced a below-zero rating.

A privately commissioned survey showed 55 percent public interest in news about Estrada. That must be sending Arroyo off the wall because she is known in broadcast circles as a low rater. That’s why Malacañang had to stop her radio programs. She herself didn’t find it worth her while because survey showed nobody was listening.

A political party’s private survey showed that Estrada’s endorsement is worth 13 percent of total votes cast. That’s valuable support, which explains the steady flow of senatoriable wannabes to Tanay.

(A source in that particular survey showed that an Iglesia ni Cristo endorsement is worth 3 percent and Cory Aquino, 1 percent.)

Arroyo’s endorsement, in terms of public image is negative. But considering that she has control of government’s resources and cheating machinery, there’s a high possibility that she will again thwart the will of the people and make her candidates win.

Gloria Arroyo may not be a candidate in the May election but her political survival is very much at stake. She is the issue.

Malacañang will have to make sure that the opposition does not get 79 or more representatives elected or else the impeachment complaint against her this year will go straight to the Senate.

In the Senate, Arroyo needs six new senators to add to her three allies (Lito Lapid, Bong Revilla and Miriam Santiago) to make sure that in the impeachment trial, she has the nine votes to prevent her ouster. Of those who are running for re-election, it’s only Edgardo Angara, whom she could probably count on to support her.. The others – Manuel Villar, Fancis Pangilinan, Ralph Recto, Joker Arroyo, Loi Estrada – are expected to run under the opposition ticket with “Oust Arroyo” as the battlecry.

Who is Arroyo offering the public to compose the Senate? In the tentative list, aside from Defensor are Prospero Pichay, Prospero Nograles, Juan Miguel Zubiri, Robert Ace Barbers, Rolando Andaya, Ace Durano, Angelo Reyes, Margarito Teves, Edu Manzano.

Pichay, Nograles, Zubiri, and Barbers all helped in the railroading of “House Only” Constituent Assembly that called for the abolition of the Senate. Now, they are running for the Senate.

As R.C. Constantino said, “The gall!”

People from Malacanang and Arroyo’s political strategists call the May election a battle between President Erap and Arroyo. If this is so, then according to Rep. Alan Cayetano why not include the two in a snap election as part of the poll? Once for all, we would know who the real President is. That would give Arroyo the chance to get a fresh mandate. But will Arroyo agree? That’s a one million dollar question. It’s a fight between two ambitious evils.

  2. Defensor and Ermita’s fight is real. But you are right, that’s waht we call “quarrel among thieves.”

Ermita resents Defensor whose access to Arroyo as presidential chief of staff undermines his job as “little president”.

Check out my previous article “Hot Mama, Hot Papa.”

Kadiri- to- death talaga itong si Little Mike. After the brouhahas of the Bruha, the May elections is all about the Great Pinoys vs. the Greatest liar, cheat and thief Glueria. The Hello Garci, Pidals and Tohs, Jocjoc fertilizer scam, failed cha-chas, springing of Smith, juetengs, etc. etc. etc. What’s so hard to decipher here, Little Mike? Amoy Imburnal ka!

  4. chi chi

The problem is how to neutralize Abalos’ Comelec cheating machinery. It’s all intact after the 2004 fraudulent elections. Comelec Chairman Ben jamin Abalos is a Malacanang puppet and part of the discredited charter change thru People’s Initiative. The quick promulgation of Comelec Resolution No. 7796 defined guidelines for PI is a calibrated dirty tactics if not a clandestine plan to cancel May 2007 polls. Chairman Abalos has an extra 9 millions voters or so under his sleeve to prevent 12-0 shut-out in the senatorial race. Remember manual counting of votes is a big advantage of Gloria and her amoy imburnal candidates. Dagdag-Bawas (vote shaving and adding scheme) may derail an opposition victory. Watch out this partisan election chief, Ay naku mali election thief pala!

  8. You are correct, Diego. Gloria will never allow the opposition to win. It’s a matter of survival for her. I’m afraid the opposition is not as wily and efficient as ronnie puno and gabby claudio.

Kabayang Ystakei asked “Bakit malakas si Mike Bansot…”. The formula is simple, para patuloy na malakas ka kay Arroyo dapat alam mo ang mga baho ni Arroyo. Arroyo’s trusted men in Malacanang, government agencies, PNP and AFP all have one thing in common: They all know Arroyo’s secrets. They all know how cheated. They all know how she stole people’s money and still keep on stealing. To shut their mouths, Arroyo makes it a point to reward them with lucrative positions equipped with power and money making machinery. Kung minsan kunwari magtataray iyan pero pagkatapos kakausapin ang sinermonan niya ng lihim by using her famous phrase “I’m sorry”. Tapos sabay bigay ng candy.

If I may repeat my prevous comments: (January 7th, 2007 at 12:40 pm)

Weren’t some of these Senatoriables the ones who wanted to abolish the Senate ? This is not about Gloria verus Erap, as Malacañan, through Mike Defensor, like to say. This is about GLORIA VERSUS THE PEOPLE OF THE REPUBLIC OF THE PHILIPPINES.

Running under Gloria’s ticket would spell political death. If ANYONE of them win, it is because they cheated..

ALIS DIYAN MAY KILITI AKO DIYAN!!! 🙂

  13. Filipinos love to immitate the Americans. For that, I would like to believe that they can also immitate what majority of Americans did in last year’s election.

Miracles do happen, you know. Tignan natin! I won’t easily give up on the Opposition if I were you, especially when we all know that what Claudio, et al are doing are mere paid lip service.

Filipinos should have more faith in themselves even when things look as hopeless as when Ellen says, “I’m afraid the opposition is not as wily and efficient as ronnie puno and gabby claudio.”

I don’t believe it has anything to do really with their wiliness and efficiency that I suspect are more due to how much are generously given them!

I just wanna share this part of Mr. Laurel’s recent column related to this thread. Happy reading!

“The first UNO general assembly was a smashing and enthusiastic success. National and local political leaders of all shades, from traditional to activist and “cause-oriented,” from anti-Gloria to simply opposition in general, all flocked to the event. Despite the five hundred pesos each participant had to fork out for the cost of the venue and comestibles at the classy Club Filipino, provincial and town leaders came; this was unlike any previous political assembly where everything is sponsored by the political bigwigs. This sets the tone for a truly people power based politics.

It was a genuinely open and democratic meeting, popular sentiment on controversial issues were freely raised and discussed. The most important of these controversial points is the inclusion of Mr. Noted, i.e. Sen. Kiko Pangilinan, in the proposed (but not yet final) slate for the UNO. The FPJ campaign volunteers group NCCV has refuses to let go of Pangilinan’s shameful dereliction of duty in the canvassing of the 2004 elections in the Senate by refusing to scrutinize fraudulent canvass sheets and election returns, paving the way for GMA’s illegal proclamation.

NCCV leaders Rez Cortez and Don Remo explained that their protest is not non-negotiable. They would yield to the political wisdom of UNO leaders, particularly President Estrada, but only if and after Pangilinan faces the public, explains and expresses public remorse on his infamous Mr. Noted act. It is an important issue, for what would UNO be if it simply sweeps such vital issues of principle under the rug? President Estrada and Mayor Jojo Binay’s intention to present a broadened united opposition is crucial, but it must be based on adherence to principles, not mere convenience.

The same dilemma arises with the proposed entry of “impeachment fasttrack” Senate President Manny Villar and Mr. RVAT Ralph Recto. In Villar’s case, however, the way had been paved by frequent visits to Tanay interpreted by most as an act of contrition, but he is still seen as an untrustworthy ally by many opposition stalwarts — maybe if he signs an anti-GMA covenant in public, the suspicions that he will pose as GMA’s “third force” can finally be put to rest. In Recto’s case, it is said his “business” through the Batangas port chains him to GMA come hell or high water.”

  15. Gloria is very wary of the Filipino people – she knows that the defeat of the Republican party is a kind of referendum against George Bush’s presidency and realizes that the Philippine mid-term elections might just see her being thrashed in the Philippines.

For this reason, she will do everything, commit murder, turn the society upside down, field her AFP attack dogs on every single walking opponent in the Philippines, use the Navy to ferry ballot boxes which will already have been filled with ballots containing the votes of both the living and the dead to ensure her victory.

She will use the 10billion peso modernization fund to extract commissions which in turn will be used to finance her ‘stop ’em (opposition) wrecking my presidency kind of…’

Name every dirty trick in the book and she’ll use it so that she will be spared the humiliating defeat her pal in the White House suffered.

This moral dwarf is going to be the most sinister politician the Philippines will ever have known come May.

Prepare for battle in May my compatriots; hang her and her cabal of evil from the highest lamppost with your vote…

    This is war!

  16. Ellen,

I had posted a similar comment on my blog. The administration is using this GMA vs. Erap spin to dissuade the moralists from voting for the opposition. But the people are well aware that the elections will be focused on issue and not Erap. These issues are yet to be addressed by Glueria. Now they are scaring the businessmen with another spin. Media has to be on their toes to thwart any palace attempt at fooling the people. Exposing the administration’s pans are now more important than ever.

  17. mandirigma mandirigma

Pero Ms. de brux, it’s difficult to compare the defeat of the Republicans in the US to the anticipated defeat of administration candidates this coming election. And what is apparent with US politicians and candidates, puro sports sila. Kapag talo, talo. Many immediately concede. Since Arroyo has in her disposal the government resources, kaya niyang gawin ang gusto niya. I would like to go back to the two party system. Poll watchers and inspectors were allowed. Noon may kanya-kanyang inspectors.

  18. Mandirigma,

In an ideal world, perhaps you are right but we have to do with what we’ve got today and one way to limit the cheating spree is for every Filipino to be vigilant – guard the ballot boxes.

  19. hawaiianguy hawaiianguy

Remember, ang madaya, always madaya, at si Arroyo iyon, at isa pa, she can always get away with it.

Defensor is whistling in the dark. He knows the real score. They will lose, if they do not cheat. So they are preparing to do so. And the first part of this is try to project themselves as winners. But the groundswell of the emotions against Gloria is so great that one can feel it on the ground that is now trembling and may erupt in earthquake of hate.

  23. Hawaiianguy,

Re OAV, I would like to suggest that voters demand the Comelec to allow civilian observers when they accept the votes, and have them watch the boxes 24 hours so that none of the staff of the embassy or consulate getting extra money to insert filled up ballots from the Comelec can succeed in doing that, especially in places where voting by mail is allowed.

We had a suspicion that it was what happened over here in Japan with an official admitting that they have received ballots filled up from the Comelec alleged to be diverted ballots that the Japanese Post mistakenly sent to Manila that any idiot would know to be an unfounded allegation because there was no way the Japanese Post wouldmake such mistake considering the fact that rates of domestic and international mails are not the same!

  24. vic vic

Multi Parties system could be allowed, but there will be some rules of party accredition. We have dozens of political parties here, but only about half a dozen are accredited and given the benefits of government funding and tax deductions on campaign funds. A party has to meet stringent election rules to get accredition and therby enjoy privileges and funding same as major parties in order to get a crack of representation (winning seats).

Election cheatings and frauds are considered criminal offenses and always prosecuted as criminal offenses, the reason why they rarely happen. And the Media are so vigilant and very responsible, that seldom their allegations and reports of anomalies are ignored. Actually the Media here had exposed more wrongdoings and irregularities in the Government than the Auditors and police altogether. That is how important the role of the Media, a very responsible and independent Media to the functions of Good Governance.

  25. Schumey:

2000 and 2004 elections in the US were not as clean as propagandized. The only difference is that cheating there is less conspicuous, and seemingly rampant only in Florida made easy by the confusion caused by still to be tested machines.

Mandaya man sila doon, hindi halata! In the Philippines, it has become institutionalized, and Filipinos think it is normal, even acceptible especially when there is the usual pakipkip!!! 😛

Pathetic? You bet! I still have to hear of people there getting arrested and prosecuted for vote-buying and electioneering. Over here, it a serious criminal offense!

This another news will make us all sick:

Arroyo’s jet prevents plane running low on fuel from landing

    Gulf Air official wants explanation

    By Nikko Dizon
    Inquirer

MANILA–Which should be given priority on the runway? A Lear jet taking off with President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on board or an incoming long haul Airbus 340 ferrying 231 passengers that is running low on fuel?

This was the question posed by an official of the Airline Operators Council (AOC) after a Gulf Air flight from Bahrain was reportedly denied landing at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) because Arroyo was using the runway for her flight to Davao City on Wednesday to stand as a wedding sponsor.

The AOC is also complaining about long queues at the departure immigration counters and a defective baggage facility that have delayed outbound flights.

“Even if the President’s plane was already taxiing but the pilot (of the other aircraft) declared he was low on fuel, the latter should have been allowed to land,” Leoncio Nakpil, AOC chairman and Gulf Air security chief in Manila, told reporters.

  27. Putting 230+ lives at risk so this vermin could take off?

Who says that the Great Switik cannot be defeated? It is just a matter of WILL AND DETERMINATION to remove this crook, by hook or by crook!

Why should Filipinos allow themselves to be dissuaded from this kind o resolve by paid lipservers?!

Hold on to your faith. By wink of an eye, things would be different. Mabuhay tayong lahat!

PEOPLE (of the PHILIPPINES) vs. GMA!!!

    1. Joker Arroyo
    2. Benigno Aquino, Jr.
    3. Allan Peter Cayetano
    4. Francis Escudero
    5. Tito Guingona
    6. Ping Lacson
    7. Loren Legarda
    8. Kiko Pangilinan
    9. Koko Pimentel
    10. Ralph Recto
    11. Tito Sotto
    12. Manny Villar

But if Guingona will opt not to run, he may endorse Angara after settling his (Angara) squabble with Lacson. It was a toss-up between Tessie Oreta but the later gave way to the young Aquino. Gringo Honasan declared his unavailability.

A big surprise is Erap himself running for senator, if there will be no legal impediment.
The incarcerated officer, Antonio Trillanes IV may also enter the picture if he can file his candidacy and
somebody will gave way for him. But he may also run for a congressional seat.

Tingnan mo naman Mang Cocoy and line-up ng kabila. Mga pinili ni GMA: 1. Mike Defensor 2. Prospero Pichay 3. Prospero Nograles 4. Ace Durano 5. Robert Ace Barbers 6. Juan Miguel Zubiri 7. Raul Gonzales 8. Eduarto Ermita 9. Francisco Duque 10. Angelo Reyes 11. Rolando Andaya 12. Margarito Teves.

  37. joeseg joeseg

Isabel, di nga ba may sarili akong listahan?

  38. 5 children dead? i do hope they investigate. the life of a poor child is as sacred as the life of a rich child.

which gives me an idea isabel: heheheh! faulty wiring? easy to provoke electrical short circuit in the bathroom of the squatter in malacanang! heh!

RE: The FPJ campaign volunteers group NCCV has refuses to let go of Pangilinan’s shameful dereliction of duty in the canvassing of the 2004 elections. NCCV leaders Rez Cortez and Don Remo explained that their protest is not non-negotiable.

The position of FPJ supporters is expected under the circumstances in fraudulent joint congressional vote canvassing. Their anger is understandable. There’s no silver bullet on Mr. Noted issue. UNO President Mayor Binay and jailed President Erap must mediate NCCV leaders to reconcile unity differences for the good of our country. Reconciliation means give and take or two-way traffic. Are balimbings can be accepted in the 12 senatorial slates? I’m not saying that Mr. Noted Pangilinan shall be forgiven for his arrogant act and the questionable proclamation of Mrs. Arroyo. Somebody has to sacrifice to achieve unity in the opposition. Mr. Noted and others may run for congressional seat where they are strong or shoo-in. The goal of gaining 80 seats in the lower house and 12-0 in the senate is non-negotiable. The opposition candidates must win a landslide victory to neutralize Abalos’ Dagdag-Bawas scheme. The battle is between the Filipino people and tyrant Gloria Arroyo. Fearless prediction: Gloria Arroyo is guilty as charge without senate trial and conviction.

More than one year akong tumutulog na nakandado.

Pwedeng may kasalanan sila for negligence, pero in their situation, ano pa ang magagawa? Mas gugustuhin pa nilang magpakulong.

Yan ang mukha ng ating bansa. Kahirapan.

I am not too keen on some of the senatorial candidates of UNO. But one thing the opposition should be decisive on is not to include potential Trojan horses.

Their objective should not simply have 12 of their candidates win. It is to make sure that these 12 on their list will support moves to impeach Gloria. All their candidates should profess publicly that they would.

The opposition can’t afford to have potential balimbings and I am quite sure Gloria already has plans to insert some of her Trojan horses in the opposition’s list.

  44. isabel isabel

    dkg,

  45. Phil Cruz Phil Cruz

So the Gloria camp has decided to make the election issue a choice between her and Erap. Although I am definitely no Erap fan, this is good. She’s sure to be clobbered.

  46. Diego K. Guerrero Diego K. Guerrero

  47. joeseg joeseg

    Phil Cruz,

In my previous post, only 6 of the UNO probable candidates are in my list of who will get my vote. I also described there why I will not for for the rest. But of course, it still subject to some changes as we go on. The most important is a decisive victory.

It’s nice to tell you that what you are thinking is similar to what Herman Tiu wrote in his column at the Daily Tribune. UNO will come up with a political platform to serve as criteria in selecting their candidates for the House and Senate. The number one proposed platform is:

    To expose, oppose and work toward the removal of the illegitimate regime of Gloria Arroyo (for congressional candidates a pledge to impeach, but senatorial candidates will sit as judges and cannot make any public statement on the matter);
    ==

  48. joeseg joeseg

    DKG,

Somewhere in this blog, I wrote that Kiko Pangilinan is not my list although he’s a probable winner if included in the UNO line-up.

  49. Tigas naman ng ulo ninyo. Senator Pimentel is not running because he just got reelected in 2004. Hanggang 2010 pa siya unless of course the fickle-minded as a weather Great Switik and her cohorts manage to push through with her ChaCha and abolish the Senate as they plan. Tricky ang ungas. She cannot be trusted. Parang nakakaloko! Iba ang sinasabi at iba ang ginagawa!

Sabi nga ni Alitaptap, Filipinos cannot be complacent. They have to be always on the look out! Switik ang kalaban!

Time to teach Filipinos to have more sense.

  51. joeseg joeseg

    Ystakei,

And also Ralph Recto. Like my comment for Kiko, he’s not in my list but a probable winner if included in the UNO’s selection. Of course, they want to sistance themselves from GMA this time. As they are aware, it’s like a kiss death being included in GMA’s line up. Talking of political butterflies.

But in the meantime, the objective is 12-0!

  52. joeseg joeseg

Supposed to be, the want to distance, not sistance, sorry.

  53. joeseg joeseg

While we are still making analysis, assessment and some hula who will be in the final list and protagonists in this epic battle between the good PEOPLE (of the Philippines) vs. GMA evil forces, kumustahin muna natin how the PEOPLE will sustain the campaign given the wealth and power of the pretender to the throne. .

    Battle cry:
PEOPLE – Oust Gloria! Hello, Garci! Remember Smith! Let’s dance the chacha!
    GMA – I am Sorry!

    Campaign funds:
    PEOPLE – Barya-barya
GMA – P450 million for each candidate

    Source of Funds:
    PEOPLE – Magpapalimos ng awa
GMA – The General Appropriations for Gov’t expenditures , PAGCOR, etc.

  54. Wait till the day the Switik succeeds in wiping out all the “sagabals” in her plan to be a queen, and say, “Siguro, it is alright now to tell what really happened, and thank those who have helped free me from any legal responsibilities for making life miserable for all Filipinos. Anyway, it is to encourage them to leave enmasse for greener pastures abroad!

Sick? You bet she is! Bakit nakakapagtapang pa ang ungas?!

  55. cocoy cocoy

Joeseg:I’m on my way home from San Diego,Talk to you when Iget home.

  56. BTW, in one of her post EDSA 2 speeches, the Great Switik in fact boasted that she and her husband would not have succeeded in snatching the presidency if not for the valuable help of those military officers she promoted to general as soon as she got to Malacanang. Tapalani pa ang dating sa totoo lang! One of them in fact was the crook who was reported hoarding dollars to his account in the US. Remember that Garcia guy? The Switik in fact mentioned his name in her thank you speech recorded in the Erap movie, a must see!

  57. mandirigma mandirigma

I hope this blog’s choice of candidates be noticed by the opposition party. In the evaluation of candidates to be included in the final list, sana mapansin din nila ang mga pinili natin dito. Siguro naman may nagbabasa sa kanila dito.

  58. joeseg joeseg

Hindi naman ito something to cause international furor, but this story is going around in a text message. Medyo pinahaba ko lang.

    Di ba 3 kings kahapon?

May mga panauhin sa Malacanang, a provincial delegation of Girls Scouts, puro kababaihan. Maligayang TATLONG ARI!

  59. florry florry

All of those who contributed to the ouster of Erap should be excluded from the UNO lineup. True, they are winnable candidates, but how can one be sure that once elected they will stay with the opposition or revert back under the skirt of the glue. They just want to be adopted to make sure of their victory, dahil napakabaho ang pangalan ni aling glue at hindi sila nakakasiguro ng panalo kapag inin-dorse sila nito. They should take the risk of fielding real opposition figures, and in that way, walang sisihan sa banding huli. Kunin mo nga ang mga ito na kandidato, at nanalo pero bumalik naman sila kay ate glue, that means you wasted some slots that should have been given to real oppositions kahit na natalo, at least you did not lost by default.

  60. Next election ang day of reckoning na sana. Dapat diyan inaaresto na sila for the power grabbing noong 2001 at vote stealing noong 2004.

  62. Phil Cruz Phil Cruz

    Joeseg,
So UNO seems to want its Congressmen candidates to pledge that they would work for the impeachment of the woman. This is good. But they would rather prefer that their senatorial candidates keep mum on this issue. Kasi I suppose because they will later stand as judges of the impeachment complaint.

This seems logical. But wasn’t the House of Gloria saying all along during the past two impeachments that this was all a political exercise and not a court of law?

Aren’t senators politicians? And why should senators keep mum on such an important issue as this? Hypocritical, isn’t it?

    Good day everyone;
All’s well when we go choosing senatoriables, pero the bigger question for me, and i hope that the opposition should start looking at is how are they faring with their congressmen? Imagine an opposition in the lower house, as low in number as they are now, without Chiz Escudero and Allan Peter Cayetano or even T. Guingona III. This has always been their problem during impeachment time. They simply do not have the numbers in the lower house. I believe that our senators, except for a couple or few who are really bad eggs, are quite independent on various issues as it is put on the table. To me the key is to get numbers on the lower house and I firmly believe that this should be addressed first and foremost, otherwise it would be the same rehash all over again.

    Hi pipol against GMA!

  71. Mike Defensor, presidential chief of staff who is expected to lead the administration’s senatorial ticket said, “It’s too early to say what our chances are but we are confident that once the public realizes that this is all about Arroyo and Estrada, it would understand the issues and not be carried away by the anti-GMA rhetoric.”

it was only like three days ago that mike Defensor has been talking about “reconciliation” with erap. and now he’s singing a different tune?

    http://www.tribune.net.ph/headlines/20070105hed3.html

Presidential chief of staff Michael “Mike” Defensor, who has been endorsed by President Arroyo for a senatorial berth under the administration ticket, yesterday said he would be seeking and pushing a reconciliation with the undisputed leader of the political opposition, detained President Joseph Estrada and project himself as “Mr. Reconciliator” for his election campaign image.

He bared this during an interview on cable TV with host Korina Sanchez yesterday.

mike d. is trying to be all things to all people. a flip flopper like joh kerry. this is done in an effort to confuse the public. bantayan nyo si mike defensor. he will issue more contradictory statements in the future.

besides, matutuwa ba ang mga erap supporters sa pinagsasabi ni mike defensor? he’d probably say something “reconciliatory” the next day to appease the erap followers.

this is typical of the administration’s stance in pursuing CHA CHA: one day they say they will pursue it with, they next day they’ll say they won’t pursue it. then they’ll reverse themselves and say they are still pushing for it… ad infinitum.

Flipflopping (or being all things to all people) is one way to keep their allies motivated (cha cha) while at the same time they don’t want to get the people too angry for pushing the fraudulent “People’s Initiative” and for recklessly pursuing CON ASS.

    From today’s Tribune Online:

Gov’t scored for denying foreign protesters entry to RP

    01/09/2007

Senate Minority Leader Aquilino Pimentel Jr. yesterday assailed what he branded as the fascistic tendency of the Arroyo administration as he condemned the deportation of a British missionary priest just hours after setting foot at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) last Friday.

Fr. Frank Nally was reportedly barred from entering the country, on suspicion of being a participant in the militant groups’ protest rallies during the 12th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) Summit in Cebu City, due to start on Jan. 10.

“I denounce the fascistic treatment of Fr. Nally at the NAIA. They held him upon his arrival Friday night and sent him back to Hong Kong Saturday morning without any reason,” he noted.

Pimentel said Nally, upon arrival at NAIA, was detained by airport security and put on the next plane bound for Hong Kong the following day.

Based on information that reached the senator, the priest’s name was included in the so-called watchlist of foreigners barred from coming to the country, supposedly due to reports that they are out to participate in the demonstrations against the Asean Summit.

“I suspect that President Arroyo did not want him coming to the country because he was here with British Member of Parliament Claire Short last July to look into mining operations in Mindanao and the extra-judicial killings,” he stressed.

Considering the circumstances behind the maltreatment and deportation of Nally, Pimentel asked “Are we now under martial law?”

The opposition senator said the shameful incident smacks of the Arroyo government’s insincerity and double talk in inviting foreign observers to look into the human rights situation in the country in the wake of series of extra-judicial killings of political activists.

Earlier, an American activist, human rights lawyer Brian Campbell, was also banned from entering the country.

Militant groups, upset over the country’s human rights record, planned mass street protests during the leaders’ summit in Cebu City.

Meanwhile, it may be all systems go for this week’s meeting of Asian leaders, but one of the main venues for the summit is far from finished.

As rain pelted down Monday, the roof of the new $11.2-million Cebu International Convention Center (CICC) did not leak as it did following the abrupt cancellation in December of the Asean and East Asia summit meetings.

But as media teams moved into the CICC, they were greeted by workmen still repairing and finishing much of the interior.

With the front doors closed, cars were diverted to the basement, where security was non-existent. Bags were not checked, and identification cards were only checked at the front gate.

Most of the furniture and decorations that were in place in December were removed shortly after the cancellation, and exhibition rooms were closed, architect Manuel Guanzon told Agence France Presse.

The main entrance was bare and workmen could be seen repairing parts of the floor that was damaged when water leaked through the front doors.

But organizers said they were confident the work would be completed in time.

“We are just finishing putting in an air-conditioning unit for the ground floor and changing an exhibition hall into a meeting room for the summit,” Guanzon said. “The workmen will be finished tonight.”

As for the holes in the roof, he added, they were repaired shortly after the cancellation.

“The problem was that someone forgot to seal some glass panels,” Guanzon stressed.

While the ministers and leaders will meet behind closed doors in the luxurious surroundings of the Shangri-La resort on Mactan Island, more than 40 separate meetings including the East Asia group will be held at the CICC.

Pinay maid faces death for killing ward in Kuwait

    01/09/2007

A Filipino worker is facing death by hanging for allegedly killing her seven-year-old ward last Saturday.

Foreign Affairs Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs Esteban Conejos yesterday said Kuwaiti authorities have already filed murder and double frustrated murder charges before the Kuwait Prosecutor’s Office against the female Filipino worker.

Conejos declined to identify the Filipino, a 28-year-old domestic helper from Maguindanao.

The overseas Filipino worker (OFW), currently confined at the intensive care

unit of al-Adan Hospital for multiple fracture, is also under close security by Kuwaiti police, he said.

Reports said the suspect jumped from the second floor of her employer’s residence in Mumbarak Al-Kabeer District, some 30 km from Kuwait.

She also reportedly slit the throat of the boy’s 11-year-old brother and stabbed his 17-year-old sister.

The OFW and the two surviving children were rushed to the hospital.

The motive was not immediately known.

Foreign Affairs spokesman Eduardo Malaya, quoting an embassy report, for his part, said the domestic helper’s physicians expect her condition to stabilize in a few days.

The embassy has already hired the services of two Kuwaiti lawyers to provide her legal assistance.

Conejos said they want to ensure that all her legal rights are safeguarded, adding the OFW will stand trial upon her release from the hospital.

  99. Wonder what happened – the maid might have been abused so bad her reason left her.

This kind of thing will continue while Gloria makes labour export the pillar of her economic policies.

  100. chi chi

    Ramil Brusko,

  102. ramil brusko ramil brusko

Isa pa gustuhin man naming magloan sa OWWA di kami makapagloan kesyo walang pondo at maraming dahilan.

  103. ramil brusko ramil brusko

  104. ramil brusko ramil brusko

Aquilino Pimentel, Sen. Serge Osmeña, Sen. Tessie Oreta at Rep.
