Grim preview

What happened to one of Mike Arroyo’s best friends, former Agriculture Undersecretary Jocelyn “Joc Joc” Bolante, should worry other members of Gloria Arroyo’s crime syndicate.

It’s just a preview of things to come. When truth and justice finally catch up with them, Gloria and Mike Arroyo, even with all their stolen power and resources, would not be able to protect them.

Bolante has been in detention at the San Pedro Processing Center in California since July 7, when he arrived in Los Angeles from Seoul, Korea not knowing that his business and tourist visa had been cancelled.

Ang mura naman

Ang cheap naman nitong mga obispo.Magbebenta lang naman ng sarili, hindi man lamang nagpapresyo ng kaunti.

Inamin ng ilang obispo na noong isang linggo, bago sila nagkulong sa Pope Pius XII Catholic Center para sa isang plenary assembly, marami sa kanila ang tumanggap ng sobre galing sa Malacañang na may laman na P15,000. Ang namigay raw ay si Fatima Valdez, undersecretary for religious affairs.

Inamin ito mismo ni Jaro Archbishop Angel Lagdameo, presidente ng Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines. Sabi ni Lagdameo, sinauli niya ang binigay sa kanya ngunit wala siyang kontrol sa ibang obispo.

Speculations galore

While former agriculture undersecretary Jocelyn “Joc-Joc” Bolante, who has been held at the San Pedro Processing Center in Los Angeles since Friday, refused the assistance of the Philippine Consulate in Los Angeles, our sources said his son, Anthony, has requested Mike Arroyo’s help.

Anthony, our source said, left Manila immediately after news of his father’s detention. It was a lucky coincidence that Mike Arroyo arrived in San Francisco July 10 from Europe.

Lack of information on Bolante’s detention has given rise to speculations. Foreign Affairs spokesman Bert Asuque said they respect the request of Bolante’s family to refer all queries to Atty. Antonio Zulueta.”

Anomalya sa nursing schools

Noong isang linggo nag-resign ang lahat na miyembro ng Technical Committee in Nursing Education (TCNE) ng Commission on Higher Education dahil nadismaya sa pagpawalang halaga ng pamunuan ng CHED kalidad ng nursing education.

Sabi ng mga nag-bitiw, mas mahalaga raw para sa pamunuan ng CHED ang negosyo at pulitika.

Ito ang mga pangalan ng mga nag-resign na board members ng TCNE. Dapat suportahan natin sila dahil naninindigan sila sa kanilang prinsipyo at pinapahalagahan nila ang kapakanan ng bayan.

Walang tiwala na sa mga congressman

Ang baba na talaga ng tingin ng taumbayan sa mga kongresista. Ito ang dating ng pahayag ng Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) sa kanilang posisyon sa impeachment.

Sabi ng CBCP: “We are undoubtedly for the search for truth. Therefore, in all sincerity, we respect the position of individuals or groups that wish to continue using the impeachment process to arrive at the truth. (Kami ay nagkakaisa sa mga naghahanap ng katotohanan. Buong sinceridad na iginagalang namin ang posisyon ng mga indibidwal o mga grupo na naghahangad na gamitin ang proseso ng impeachment sa paghahanap ng katotohanan.)

“But as Bishops reflecting and acting together as a body in plenary assembly, in the light of previous circumstances, we are not inclined at the present moment to favor the impeachment process as the means for establishing the truth. (Ngunit bilang mga obispo na nagdasal at kumilos bilang isa sa isang pagtitipon-tipon, sa dahilang nangyari noong isang taon, hindi kami pabor sa proseso ng impeachment bilang paraan sa paghahanap ng katotohahan.)

Power of might over right

The latest launching tests by North Korea of shortrange and intercontinental missiles last week has renewed concern of an arms race in Asia.

In 2003, Thomas Omestad, in an article in US News, painted this scenario: “Faced with a nuclear breakout by a hostile regime, Japan reconsiders its antinuclear taboos, fields a larger missile force of its own, and plunges into developing a shield against incoming missiles with the United States. South Korea, with one eye on the North and the other on Japan, follows suit. China reacts with more nukes and missiles of its own. Taiwan, outgunned, opts for more missiles and, perhaps, nuclear bombs. A nervous Russia shifts nuclear and conventional forces for defense against its old rivals, China and Japan. India, a foe of China, expands its nuclear forces, a step that causes Pakistan to do likewise. An Asian arms race snaps into high gear.”

Hideaki Kaneda, a retired vice admiral of Japan’s Self-Defense Forces and director of the Okazaki Institute in Tokyo, said in an article the arms race across Asia is already underway and North Korea’s testing last week confirmed it.

Noong July 8, 2005, mga alas 10 ng umaga, nag-press conference sa Hyatt Hotel sa Roxas Boulevard sina Social Services Dinky Soliman; Finance Secretary Cesar Purisima; Trade Secretary and Industry Secretary Juan Santos; Education Secretary Florencio Abad; Budget and Management Secretary Emilia Boncodin; Peace Adviser Ging Deles; Agrarian Reform Secretary Rene Villa; Imelda Nicolas, National Anti-Poverty Commission; Alberto Lina ng Bureau of Customs; at Guillermo Parayno ng Bureau of Internal Revenue.

Ito ay isang buwan pagkatapos lumabas ang “Hello Garci” tapes na winagayway ni “I- have- two- discs” Ignacio Bunye”.
