It reminds me of “wanted” items in the classified ads looking for receptionists: 18 to 25 years old, high school graduate with pleasing personality. You guess in what reception lounge she would be working.
Excerpts from this inane ad, paid with money from our taxes:
From Remote to Promote..Mary Joy Buñol, a 23-year old Ilonnga from farflung brangay Jelicoun Oeste, New Lucena, 2nd district of Iloilo, completed Tesda’s Supermaid program only seven (7) months ago. Now serves a Royal Family in Malaysia.
Tesda’s Supermaid Program includes expanded value-adding training in first aid, child health, communications skills, evacuaton from high-rises in case of a fire, care of pets, home safety and other skills for maids acquire added value to get higher pay.
Clifford Paragua, Tesda executive director, said the Supermaid idea as well as the advertisement were the brainchild of their chair, Augusto Syjuco.
Told that the label “Supermaid” denigrates Filipino women, he said they are thinking of changing it to “Household manager”. O, anong say mo?

Maybe because Mr. Syjuco has not been successful in fixing his family problems, as to why his thinking has been affected. In other words, may sayad yata si Syjuco! How can an intelligent person with breeding come up with an idea as RIDICULOUS as this?
Opo, Mr. Agusto Syjuco, you told the President that we should get out of the “barat market” and instead position our DHs in a high-value market–but common’, is SUPERMAID the answer? Your ad just ridicules our DHs and makes them look like some comic character! Tell me, will an international market take our DHs seriously with an ad like that?!
So what’s new with the ad? Gloria dressed up as a SUPERMAID (like she’s the idol of the maids! Even in that level, she can’t market herself). And the birth of another IDIOT named Augusto Syjuco.
The reason why Gloria is so passionate and enthusiastic about domestic helpers even calling them “Super Maids” is because Gloria herself looks exactly like a domestic helper. Remove the Presidential Security Group around her; make her wear a white uniform…there you go, a model maid. Many maids and yayas are even lovelier and classier than Gloria. Hahaha. She looks ridiculous. And by the way, my son said she’s wearing the costume of one of the Justice League heroes. The other sports the new Superman costume. Both are from the DC (Detective Comics)Publishing. Sana Pinoy superhero na lang ang ginamit. This just made my day.
I prefer to see her in DARNA costume. It’s more Pinay. When she shouts “Darna”, she turns into a “tianak” (is this the correct word for dwarf?).
Gloria once was heard telling a class of young graduates to study hard so they would be able to find a good job abroad. Sure, she has promised the nation millions of jobs by the time her term ends, but I hope she didn’t say they include jobs they would get abroad.
And then she made that statement about the Philippines sending not just any domestic helper abroad, but “super maids.” It’s bad enough that the word Filipina is already used in some European countries to mean “maid,” but with her words, the she practically packaged the country as a prime producer of domestic helpers.
That ad reminds me of what I see in front of pubs and clubs kung saan nakabandera ang mga mukha ng mga japayuking Pinay sa Japan. Gross, indeed! Everytime I walk past these establishments, I always look the other way. Nakakakilabot pag nakita mo at ang mga suot….

This reminds me of the maid in Lebanon interviewed for a documentary on the Super Atsay being given all kinds of glorified names. She related how her amo and the older son would lock her up and try to rape her!
One thing I find really shocking is how these Super Atsay now take this raping like something part of the package of being a Super Atsay overseas, even numb to the fact that rape is a crime as a matter of fact!
What happens when the Filipinas who used to come to Japan as Japayuki now opt to become Super Atsay? Baka dumami ang mga pilipinang mababato to death under Islamic Law when they start getting charged with adultery and prostitution as I understand a lot many Filipino women now do in places like Dubai, etc.

And as part of the upgrading of the skills of the Super Maids, they will undergo training on pet care. That includes picking up and cleaning dog and cat poo!

Yup, Soleil, the word “Japayuki” is applied only to Filipino women who have worked in Japan as bar and club hostesses and part-time as prostitutes.
Noong kasukdulan ng problemang iyan, masusuka ka sa mga naririnig naming mga kaso. The youngest one I met was 12 years old, and the worst case would have 10 men (not necessarily all Japanese) or more in one night for at least 150 to 300 dollars per client but the Filipina gets only a portion of the fee lalo na kung tanga at madaling mabola o matakot. It was actually how I got my job at the police as interpreter.

Tuturuan sila ng paggamit ng vacuum cleaner kahit na sa totoo lang ay iba’t iba ang uri ng vacuum cleaner depende sa kung sino ang gumawa para kung sakali ay hindi sila makasira ng vacuum cleaner na isa sa dahilan kung bakit nasasabunutan ng amo nila itong mga Super Atsay. Kuno caregiver pero and itinuturo ay kung papaano maglalaba ng mga kumot, magluluto, etc. May kunti first aid course na itinuturo naman sa eskuwelahan kung nakapag-aral ka. Tapos, kunting yabang, presto, Super Atsay na!
Now, who is this Pandak kidding with her Super Atsay gimmick? Tapos ang sueldo 200 dollars lang! Bakit kukuha ng Super Atsay ang mga amo para magbayad ng mahal? Kaya nga sila kumukuha ng mga pilipino hindi dahil sa mahusay ang mga pilipino kundi dahil mura ang service nila. Hibang talaga itong si Syjuco din ano? Hindi tutoong kapag nakapagsanay at naging eksperto sa pagiging maid (supermaid) ang ating mga kababayan ay nangangahulugan na tataas rin ang sahod nila.
Sa pagpasok ng mga maids from South Asian countries, nagkaroon ng kakumpetensya ang mga maids na galing sa atin. Kaya ang nangyari kahit na mababa ang suweldo lumaban na rin sila. Pero lamang pa rin ang mga Filipina pagdating sa preference ng mga Arabo. Mas gusto nila ang mga Filipina.
Kaya lang suwertihan din kung makakatagpo sila ng mabait at generous na mga amo. Kahit masipag ka kung makatagpo ka ng mabagsik at di magandang amo ang labas mo ay aabusuhin ka lang in terms of maraming trabaho, ipinapasa ka pa sa mga kamag anak na wala man lang compensation.
Mahirap at masakit din talaga ang naging mga kapalaran ng ilan nating mga kababayan dito pero meron din naman na pinalad na magkaroon ng mga mababait na amo.
