Bakit kaya hindi nasasama si Navy Ltsg Antonio Trillanes sa ginagawa ng oposisyon na senatorial tiket?
Malaki ang sakripisyo na napuhunan ni Trillanes, lider ng Magdalo na umalsa laban sa kurakutan sa military noong 2003. Oakwood mutiny ang tawag sa pangyayring yun.
Ang mga ibinunyag nina Trillanes na kurakutan sa military ay napatunayan sa maraing expose na lumabas katulad ng kaso ni Gen. Calos Garcia.
Nanindigan si Trillanes sa kanyang prinsipyo kahit siya at ang kanyang pamilya ay pinapahirapan. Hindi katulad ng iba niyang kasamahan sa Magdalo.Ganyang klaseng mga Pilipino ang dapat binoboto.
Sa kanyang hearing sa Makati noong Martes, humingi ng pahintulot si Trillanes sa korte na payagan siyang lumabas para mag-file ng certificate of candidacy para senador. Magsisimula ang filing ng certificate of candidacy sa Lunes, Jan. 15, hanggang hatinggabi ng Feb. 12.
Ang alam ko, nababanggit ang pangalan ni Trillanes sa pag-uusap ng mga lider ng oposisyon sa Tanay. Noong una ang problema ay ang kanyang voter’s registration. Dahil siyempre, hindi ka maa-aring magiging kandidato kung hindi ka botante. Naayos na yun nang makapagregister siya sa Caloocan City kamakailan.
Sinabi ni Trillanes na nagpapasalamat siya sinasama siya ng oposisyon ngunit kahit hindi, itutuloy pa rin niya ang kanyang senatorial candidacy. Humihingi siya ng permiso sa korte na payagan siyang magsalita sa media kapang nagsimula na ang campaign period.
Parang umaakyat si Trillanes sa bundok sa kanyang kandidatura na ito. Unang-una, kailangan siyang umalis sa military dahil nakasaad sa Constitution na hindi maaring sumali ang sundalo sa pulitika at ang nag-iisang obligasyon nila sa eleksyon ay magboto.
Kaya nga eskandalo talaga ang ginawa nina AFP Chief Hermogenes Esperon at ang iba pang opisyal na tumulong sa ginawa ni Arroyo na pandaraya noong 2004 election.
Pangalawang bundok na aakyatin ni Trillanes ay ang pagkampanya. Nakakulong siya. Sigurado hindi siya papayagan ng military na lumabas para magkampanya.
Ang isa pa, kailangan malaking pera para sa organisasyon hindi lamang sa kampanya kungdi na rin para magbantay ng boto sa bilangan.
Marami naman siguro ang tutulong sa kandidatura ni Trillanes. Sa ngayon nga lang, marami ang nagdu-donate ng mga pocket calendars at key chain na may litrato niya.
Dapat tulungan ng mamamayan si Trillanes. Kapag manalo siya sa ganitong sitwasyon, ito ay maging magandang ehemplo sa ating pulitika at magbibigay ng pag-asa sa mga taong tapat sa bayan at nagpapahalaga sa katotohanan at hustisya na may puwang sila sa pulitika.
Sa halip na si Gringo Honasan, mas gusto ko yata si Trillanes.

A former RAM member had expressed to me that Honasan “took” the groups’ money & “ran away”. Gringo also “betrayed” the Magdalo group-the same group that Trillanes belongs (or belonged ?) to.

Kasi ba naman siniksik pa sina Pangilinan at Recto sa ticket. If these two are not included, Trillanes and Honasana are in. Unfortunately, that was the demand made by Manny Villar who heads the Nacionalista Party. Kung hindi daw kukunin lahat ang mga kasama niya (Recto, Pangilinan, Joker), huwag na lang daw. It’s all or none. In politics, it’s all compromise so the opposition needs to reach a compromise. Kung si Erap, ayaw nga niya isama si Recto. To show how the negotiation and compromise went, ito ang mga nangyari: Angara is out in favor of Lacson. Imee Marcos and Tessie Oreta are out in favor of Noynoy Aquino. Loi Estrada is out in favor of JV Ejercito. Si Joker ayaw din ni Erap. Wasn’t Joker the one who defended First Gentleman Mike Arroyo in that Jose Pidal Senate hearing? Itong huli na lang saka siya lumalaban kay Arroyo. And in case people think that Joker is not related to Mike Arroyo, they are wrong. Malayong magkamag-anak ang dalawa. You can check it out. Ayaw din ni Erap kay Joker pero pilit ni Villar at Mayor Binay ipasok.

Woowing Manny Villar, Joker Arroyo, Ralph Recto, & Kiko Cuneta-Pangilinan to join the Administration’s ticket is a bad sign. What it seems like is that there are no takers for these 4 Stooges; & it also seems that the Administration cannot come up w/ their Magic 12 & have resorted to desperate measures by settling for the crumbs. Si Senator Angara nga kunuha ang mga donation mula sa mga businessmen at Tsinoy para sa kampo ni FPJ noon. The report was days before the election, Angara carted away many boxes from one office presumably money. Kaya kinulang ang campaign funds ang opposition noon. Until now, he has not been made accountable for the money. Iyan ang isa sa dahilan kung bakit hindi siya sinama sa opposition ticket ngayon. Iba ang mag-akusa at iba naman ang patunayan. If indeed Honasan stole the money, he should be investigated and be held accountable for it. I think Senate President Manny Villar’s demand for three slots in the UNO senatorial candidates may be a contributing factor for dropping Trillanes in the line up. I don’t know what UNO’s criterions in selecting its candidates are. The chance of winning by Magdalo leader Navy Ltsg. Antonio Trillanes looks dim if he runs as independent candidate. He needs a political party’s machinery and financial support and volunteers to supplement his limited physical movement while in jail. I hope Navy Ltsg. Antonio Trillanes will overcome all obstacles and achieve his mission, vision and goal for better Philippines. We hope that his fighting spirit never dies. He is good replacement of Tito Sotto, JV Ejercito or Mr. Noted Pangilinan in case they drop-out the race.
In 1978, the late Senator Ninoy Aquino was allowed to run an interim parliament seat from his prison cell and not surprisingly he lost and the Lakas ng Bayan Party (LABAN) due to widespread election fraud. He was allowed one television interview on government-controlled TV and proved to a startled and impressed populace that imprisonment had neither dulled his double bladed like tongue nor dampened his fighting spirit.

Pero kung dahil sa pulitika ay kailangan silang isama sa tiket ng UNO sige na nga. Pagdating mo naman sa presinto ay wala na silang pakialam kung sino ang iboboto mo.
KAYA lang, kailangang bantayan ang ating mga boto. Ang dapat manalo ay iyung mga lumaban at lumalaban pa sa kataksilang naganap laban sa sambayanang Pilipino nuong EDSA-2. Ang milyon-milyong dumating sa EDSA-3 at ang mga nasaktan at namatay nuong Mayo 2001 ay hindi titigil hanggang matupad ito. Ito lamang ang magpapaibis ng naglalatang na damdamin, puot at apoy sa dibdib ng maraming Pilipino.

Initially, on December 28th, 2006 at 7:43 am, I wrote that on the candidacy of Gringo, Trillanes could be more exciting.
And on January 8th, 2007 at 7:31 am, I wrote that The incarcerated officer, Antonio Trillanes IV may also enter the picture if he can file his candidacy and somebody will gave way for him. But he may also run for a congressional seat.

I’m with you on Trillanes but let’s speak of political realities. Running a nationwide independeng campaign for a senator is an exercise in futility especially if he’s behind bars. Ninoy Aquino was able to do that but he was Ninoy Aquino. To enlist himself in a third force is like saying that it will end up in third batch of losers.
While I said that Trillanes is more exciting than Honasan, it is at present time. Honasan was at his prime was more charismatic. Even in his failed coups against Cory Aquino government, his media mileage was milya-milya ang haba. And he was able to electrigy the masses and the youth because of his escapades, meaning, his escaping from his jailers. Trillanes is more brilliant judging from his writings but he is yet to make an escape. Kung baga sa pelikula, a thrilling episode that will kiliti the viewers. Baka pag mangyaring ganoon, maiba ang kwento.
Let’s wait and see. One month to go pa naman in filing of candidacy. If there will be enough voice heard in support of Trillanes, the UNO panelists may change their minds. Who knows.
But in the meantime, a congressional campaign is easier to conduct. And he’s voice will still be heard.

This is one of the issues against GMA.
It was December 30, 2002 in Baguio City, when she promised before the monument of Dr. Jose Rizal that she will not run for president on 2004 elections because she knew that she’s causing much divisiveness in the society. She swore that she’ll just concentrate on good governance. She broke that promise.
Last December 30, 2006, many were aghast with GMA for ignoring the significance of Rizal’s death. It was a despicable act of social blunder for a sitting president to being absent on its commemoration. And she was in Baguio at that time.
Maybe she’s being hunted by her broken promise or she finally realized she’s not really the president. Maybe, she doesn’t want to praise Rizal’s heroism anymore because she will be reminded that Rizal lived a life above reproach.

Trillanes does not have to belong to the Pidal group or the Opposition. He can go independent. The people can put him up if they know that he can fight for them. Problem is how can he serve when he is in prison. He should get out of his cell first.
If the people really want him to serve them, they should do something to set him free. This is more like it, better and more feasible, I think.
The short time I saw him on TV that fateful day, and the things he wrote that I deemed he wrote from the heart had given me an impression that he was true and sincere. He still needed/needs a lot to learn that his incarceration must be teaching him.

Trillanes can run as a partylist member if he is going to be put up in Congress. Mas malawak pa ang scope kesa tumakbo siya for his district. OFWs and people back home can vote for him if his supporters will put up a partylist that will speak for not just one group but all Filipinos.
Makakalaban niya diyan si SiRaulO who is bent on destroying the partylist system if he cannot win as a partylist Congressman.
It is the only way overseas Filipinos can also vote for Trillanes in case he is able to run for office in the Philippine Congress. Otherwise, he runs as an independent for the Senate! I don’t know why he cannot if there are enough people to support him. He is worth the try as a matter of fact.

That’s one option for Trillanes, to run under a partylist. Maybe some partylist could offer him a seat, that’s fine. He doesn’t have to personally campaign but the group will work for him. But he should be at present time a member of any partylist already accredited by Comelec.
Mahirap talaga pag sa Senate, buong kapuluan. In my experience, only some important cities and towns lang ang napupuntahan. Sa mga liblib na lugar, bahala na ang local partymates to carry on the campaign. Kung wala kang partido, maaaring maririnig ang pangalan mo sa radio pero ang mga tao minsan gusto nila nakikita nang personal ang kandidato. It is in this case that popularity counts. Kahit yong nasa bundok Banahaw, bababa sa kabundukan para makihalubilo.
I believe that Trillanes knows his drawback. I think he’s mulling all the possibilities. But one thing, his candidacy in any position will project more of what he’s fighting for.

If the objective of the opposition is to unite the majority of Filipinos who are seeking good governance, then Estrada and his ilk is subtraction and not addition. Joseph Estrada holds one of the most dismal track records of any Philippine president since the time of Emilio Aguinaldo. An opposition promise of good governance will ring hollow with Joseph Estrada and his ilk among their ranks.
If the objective of the opposition is to seek the people’s mandate for a platform of reform, then many will not believe them for so long as Estrada and his ilk are associated with them. Estrada was ousted by a People Power event that was bent on implementing reform. Insofar as reform is concerned, Estrada and his ilk is subtraction, not addition.
If the objective of the opposition is to excite the many who are poor and those who are living below the poverty line with a promise of economic salvation, then association with Estrada and his ilk is subtraction and not addition. It was during Estrada’s term that the Philippine peso and stock market crashed to an unprecedented low since 1986 when Cory Aquino restored democracy. Joseph Estrada and his ilk just do not match up with the prospects of a good economy.
If the objective of the opposition is to motivate the voters to support them because of the values that they promise to restore into our national soul, then Estrada and his ilk is again – subtraction and not addition. How can a disgraced president, who is known for propagating a culture of gambling and sleeping with several women, ever be credible with a crusade for values?
If the opposition objective is to get the active support of the middle class – the traditional agent of change in society – they should be able to offset the Arroyo regime’s advantage of political machinery. But they have only two chances of getting that support with Estrada and his ilk in their ranks. Those two chances are none and nil.
If the opposition is bent on presenting themselves in sharp contrast to the Gloria Macapagal Arroyo regime, then they must take the moral high ground for it is in this arena where the Arroyo regime is most vulnerable. But how can an opposition that parades the likes of Estrada and his ilk presume to take the moral high ground?
Indeed, it makes me wonder why the opposition would want to revive the political standard of Joseph Estrada. I don’t see the so-called addition. Neither do I see the all-important taking of the moral high ground.

William or Bill Esposo is one of my favorite columnists but not necessarily the number one as Kabayang Diwata has described. Mr. Esposo should not be given the highest rating even if many like Ka Diwata think he deserves it. Marami din diyan na magagaling at mas magaling na manunulat tulad ni Ms. Ellen Tordesillas, Mr. Herman Tiu Laurel, Ducky Paredes, Lito Banayo, Dick Pascual, etc. Huwag na po kayong magtaka kung puro mga anti-Arroyo writers ang binanggit ko. There is and will never be one writer who openly supports Arroyo that would be on my favorite list. Lalo na iyon mga bayaran at nakikinabang sa Malacanang. While I agree with Mr. Esposo’s opinion, I think his position was influenced by his being once anti-Erap. Maraming journalists ang ganoon. Marami sa kanila ang kalaban at lumaban kay Erap at kahit na kay Marcos. They just happen to have a one common enemy at present; that is, this Arroyo. Para sa akin walang masama ang ibalik ang mga tauhan at ka-alyado ni Presidente Erap basta ba magaling at maaasahan. Halimbawa na lang si Tito Sotto. I think he performed well in the Senate. Other than the frame up drug charge against him, he has a clean record. I can’t say the same thing with Sonny Osmena whose gender is even in question. Kung napasama man siya o balak isama, dala ito ng kanyang 100% loyalty kay Presidente Erap. And that’s what I also disagree. The basis should not be just loyalty but his character. I for one don’t agree that balimbings like Villar and Recto should be included in the list. Pero huwag natin kalilimutan na si Villar ay leader ng Nacionalista Party and the current Senate President. Si Recto at pati na si Pangilinan ay kasama niya sa partido. People might have forgotten that the opposition ticket is composed of candidates chosen from different parties allied with one another. Kaya tama lang na may kanya-kanyang representatives ang bawa’t grupo. It cannot just be all from one party even if this is the dominant one. Kaya nga po tawag na joint or united opposition iyan. In politics, compromise is necessary. Compromise means making decisions even if these are not very favorable to one group or party. The main goal is to come up with a strong team to beat the current administration that has all the resources. It’s hard to please everyone so compromise is needed. Kung hindi sa compromise noon, hindi naibagsak si Marcos at kahit na si Erap. Those groups united or some would call it “conspired” against the two former leaders. Pero ang mga tao at grupong iyan magkaaway din. Can you imagine the RAM or soldiers uniting with the leftist groups. Paano nagkasama ang mga rightist at leftist? Dahil iisa ang layunin nila: Patalsikin ang nakaupong pangulo at nagtagumpa nga. At this point, some may be even willing to put anyone to replace Arroyo. Why not an opposition team even if we don’t like some of the candidates?

What is important is, we move on with those at present time we presume will be not subservient to GMA in the senate. What will happen next, and if we are entertaining some doubts, BAHALA NA. Sanay naman tayo dyan. But the point is, if we are divided ngayon pa lang? Anong mararating natin?

There’s really a dilemna in selecting the composition of the UNO senatorial slatte. We could feel how they labor in the selection process. Kanya-kanyang manok yan. Gapangan, pilipitan ng braso, may sumbatan at tampuhan pagkatapos. Siempre, ang dami talagang gustong sumakay. Ang isang pulitiko doon sa medyo sigurado at malapit sa masa. Praktikal lang yan.
Itong tropa nina Villar, alam nilang tagilid sila kung mag-third force at lalong ayaw nilang sumama kay GMA dahil it’s like a kiss of death. Paano sila makakaharap sa tao kung ganun na lang batikusin nila si GMA at ngayon, sasama sila? Lalo silang pagtatawanan. Gusto ni GMA may third force dahil makakahati yon ng boto at it will give a fighting chance for her candidates. The usual divide and conquer. Sa ngayon, bokya pa sila. Actually, si Mike Defensor pa lamang ang talagang lantarang gustong kumandidato. Umayaw na si Angelo Reyes na noon pa, pursigido yan.
I, for one, don’t like some of UNO’s candidates but who should be the replacement? Voting for somebody who is outside of the UNO slate but perceived not winnable is increasing the chance of GMA’s line up. Simple.
But of course, we are a free country pa naman. Hindi natin pwedeng saklawan ang kagustuhan at pagiisip ng iba. Sabi nga ni Anna, ang discussion dito ay blog-rhetorics. Pero kung gusto nating maka-iskor, and score diecisively, go for the kill.

I profess to know Tito Sotto personally, but I would rather see him refrain from running. He’s 12 years stint in the Senate is enough na for me. Who would imagine that a singer, actor-comedian will reach that high in our political world catapulting from vice mayor to senator. Maganda na ang kanyang kasaysayan. But if he’s in the official line-up. siempre, I will vote for him and in fact, will be campaigning for him again. If in the final listing he will not be included, whoever replaced him will also get my vote, no ifs no buts.

Iyan ang dahilan kung bakit bumabalik siya sa Senado. I’m not in favor of him running for president in 2010. Puwede pa kung Vice President which he is more than qualified. Isang mapagkakatiwalaang source sa kampo ni Estrada ang nagkumpirmang nahihirapan ang United Opposition (UNO) na ‘ampunin’ si Senate majority floor leader Francis Pangilinan bunga ng matigas na pagkontra ng mga naiwan ni Fernando Poe, Jr. mula sa Koalisyon ng Nagkakaisang Pilipino (KNP).

Para na ring ipinahamak ni Pangulong Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo ang kanyang mga kandidato sa Mayo matapos nitong ipangako na kanyang ibi-veto ang anumang panukalang ipapasa ng Kongreso na may kinalaman sa pagtataas ng sahod ng mga manggagawa.
Ito ang pahayag ng mga militanteng grupo na nangakong walang lulusot sa kanilang hanay na kandidato ng Malacañang lalo na sa senatorial race sa Mayo.
“President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s intent to veto the P125 across-the-board wage hike bill will contribute to what already appears to be a sound defeat of Macapagal-Arroyo’s slate in the upcoming mid-term election in May,” reaksyon ng Anakpawis party-list group sa Mababang Kapulungan ng Kongreso na pinamumunuan ni Reps. Crispin Beltran at Rafael Mariano.
Nangangako ang grupo na lalong mahihirapan ang sinumang kandidatong ilalarga ng administrasyon sa senatorial race dahil idadaan nila sa balota ang kanilang nararamdamang kahirapan sa ilalim ng administrasyon.
Walang puso ang naging paglalarawan ni Bayan Muna party-list Rep. Teddy Casiño sa banta ni Arroyo na hindi palulusutin ang wage hike bill.

President Erap might give in with due respect to long time movie star pal Vilma Santos pero talagang matindi ang kontra sa kampo ni FPJ. I think the widow Susan Roces has a hand in this. I wrote in another thread that Erap may spring a surprise and also run as senator. When I posed the question if there will be legal impediment, GodSaveDConstitution, in all his vast knowledge on legal matter and constitutional provisions, replied that there’s no problem, Erap has the legal rights. Malay natin, may mga last minute or eleventh hour movement na mangyayari. If that will be the case, siguro naman si JV ang papalitan niya.
At kapag ganyang may maniobrang nangyayari which is not surprising in politics, hoping against hope, Trillanes might be able to clinch a slot in the final list.

A few of Kiko Pangilinan’s supporters are arguing why Senator Lacson is being included in the ticket when Lacson refused to be FPJ’s running mate causing the latter’s defeat. Kung sinisisi daw si Kiko sa pagiging Mr. Noted, bakit hindi si Lacson? Good question and argument. Pero malakas kasi sa survey si Lacson at bati na sa kampo nina Erap at FPJ. How can Kiko be compared to Lacson? Sabi pa nga ni Imee Marcos, Kiko is Malacanang’s DPA (Deep Penetration Agent). The so called Third Force being floated around is actually Malacanang’s idea. Kung baga sa presidential election na maraming kandidatong pampagulo, ganoon din ang gagawin sa laban ng pagka-senador. Malacanang would form a Third Force to steal the opposition team’s votes. This would make it easier for the administration team to cheat again. Kasi kapag malaki ang lamang na boto, mahirap mandaya. If there’s a Third Force, votes for the opposition would be deducted favoring the administration.

Another thing, Mayor Binay being at the helm of UNO told supporters of Kiko that they can’t argue their case that much dahil ang kampo nila is actually nakikiusap lang na isama sila sa lineup. On the other hand, Lacson is a hardliner against GMA. Ito ang isang criteria followed in the selection.

Just this morning, had talked with a reelectionist Mayor in Quezon. Ang magandang kwento, partido nya is aligned with GMA, but his group is cool in supporting her and secretly telling people na basta bahala sila pagdating sa senators. Sa local kasi, ang laro dyan, sarili muna bago ang taga-labas. Tatanggapin nila ang pera ng partido but come elections, baligtaran yan. And I think it will be replicated in many areas. Latest na balita nagwawala itong si Richard Gomez o tinaguriang “GOMA” ng showbiz. He thought he was a sure in the opposition ticket until his name was scratched. Hindi naman sa ayaw sa kanya pero wala na talagang ipalalagyan ang pangalan. As a result, he now threatens to bolt the opposition and joins the administration. Mayabang talaga ano? Well, buti pa nga magsama na sila ni Edu Manzano sa administration ticket.

I happened to post the same article in another thread regarding Chavit Singson.
I think Chavit will not run for Senator even if he’s promised by the 82 governors. Not even once his name has been mentioned in the senatoriable under the aegis of GMA meaning, even GMA is not too keen in endorsing him.
The perception about Chavit is like that of JDV. They are unbeatable in the local arena but not that strong in the national elections.
For Chavit, being in the senate is another kind of ballgame than as a provincial governor where he is the political kingpin. We know why he is the kingpin and the Newsbreak tells us more.
