Six Genuine Opposition candidates, four Team Unity bets and two independents are poised to win the top 12 slots in the Senate race, results of the 2007 ABS-CBN/Pulse Asia nationwide exit poll revealed Tuesday.

GO candidate Loren Legarda topped the exit poll with 58.5 percent of votes, followed by Francis Escudero (53.3%), Manuel Villar (49.8%) and Panfilo Lacson (46.4%).
Independent candidate Francis Pangilinan placed fifth in the exit poll with 44.6 percent of votes, followed by GO’s Benigno Aquino III (42.6%), Team Unity’s Edgardo Angara (41.1%) and Joker Arroyo (36.8%) and GO’s Antonio Trillanes IV (35.4%).
TU’s Juan Miguel Zubiri placed 10th in the exit poll with 34.9 percent of votes. Independent candidate Gregorio “Gringo” Honasan (34.6%) and TU’s Ralph Recto (34.3%) rounded out the last two slots.
Pulse Asia said there is a statistical chance that the last four candidates on the list could be replaced by other senatorial bets.
GO’s Alan Peter Cayetano placed 13th on the list with 31 percent of votes, followed by TU’s Prospero Pichay Jr. (30.4%), GO’s Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III (28.5%) and Sonia Roco (28.4%) and TU’s Michael Defensor (28.2%) and Vicente “Tito” Sotto III (26.2%).
Pulse Asia started conducting its exit poll as soon as voters finished casting their votes Monday for the national and local elections and returned to their homes.
Ana Maria Tabunda, Pulse Asia executive director, said the survey firm targeted 10,620 completed response forms from 79 provinces less than a day after polling precincts closed.
She said Pulse Asia chose 15 respondents per precinct in urban districts and 12 respondents per precinct in rural districts. Once a house is randomly chosen, the interviewer randomly selects a voter. Indelible ink on the voter’s finger will indicate that he or she has voted. If he or she is registered and did not vote, the interview would still push through.
Once a voter is selected, a form that is similar to a Commission on Elections ballot is given. The respondent will be instructed by the interviewer to fill in the names that the repondents wrote inside the polling booth. The voter will then fold the form and drop it in a box that is sealed.
“It will be very evident for the respondent that it cannot be opened easily,” she said.
She said Pulse Asia deployed 1,000 field interviewers to conduct the exit poll. The field interviewers randomly chose the respondents at 9 a.m. election day. All field interviews were finished at 9 p.m. of the same day.
The results were encoded in a software program made by Taylor Nielsen Software after which a group of statisticians will then analyze the results for accuracy and completion.
GO bets have their say
Interviewed at the same time news broke out about the results of the exit polls, Cayetano said he believes that eight of his coalition mates will make it to the top 12.
With regard to his standing, Cayetano said it is too early to rely on the results of the exit polls’ results.
“Sa case ko, estimate ko and I respect Pulse Asia, eight percent ang nawawala sa akin (In my case and as I estimate it, eight percent of my votes are missing),” he told ABS-CBN’s “TV Patrol World.”
He said the exit polls’ results might have yet to take account the outcome of his two-week media blitz telling voters to write his full name of “Alan Peter Cayetano” instead of his surname only.
The Commission on Elections ruled that voters should write the full name of the GO senatorial bet to be counted in the tally. A vote written only as “Cayetano” will be considered a stray vote and will not be counted in favor of the opposition candidate.
Cayetano said that in fact, based on GO’s sources, he is doing somewhere between the sixth and eighth places in the Visayas and sixth-ninth in certain areas in Metro Manila.
For her part, Legarda echoed Cayetano’s statement.
She said it is too early to rejoice but at the same time, she is happy with the results of the exit polls. “Kailangan pong mabantayan ang ating mga boto at napakaraming lugar pa sa Luzon, Visayas at Mindanao ang hindi pa tapos ang pagbibilang (There are still many places in Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao that have yet to conclude their tallies).”
She said that until the final and official tally result has been revealed, the people should not let their guard down.

Edgardo “Ding” Santos, a known Kampi leader, did his patron, Allan Panaligan a big favor by joining the congressional fray to make sure Allan’s bid is not at all threatened by the ex-cop. Imagine, two Ding Santoses in one election! Wrong move. Our candidate, Dr. Lito Roxas won by landslide.
Ding Santos made sure this time he won’t contest Peewee’s bid, he even supported him by not fielding a Lakas mayoralty candidate and included Peewee’s name in the sample ballot. There is this rule that the Comelec’s decision to strike Joselito Cayetano’s name off the list will need 5 days before it becomes final. And since it was promulgated only last Friday, the move was really adding insult to injury. I’m sure if Allan had his way, he would have stopped all the precinct-level counting nationwide until it was Wednesday, but he couldn’t do that as the Supreme Court was closed after the decision was announced.
I can understand Alan’s feeling helpless and frustrated but if I were him I wouldn’t let it show, no I won’t give the Pig the satisfaction by showing it.

What will happen to the stray votes that should have been credited to Alan in the first place, if and if Kargador Juju’s name is taken off the list after 5 days? Ibabalik ba iyon kay Alan?
Further, we had the same experience with Peewee. The other TWO Trinidads were ordered stricken-off the list. The COMELEC first ordered the first one on May 3, we felt it was a trial balloon to see how the Gods will take it. The other one was ordered stricken off the list May 9, exactly 5 days before election. This guy’s name still was included on election day and his votes counted.
It was part of a grand plan to make things difficult for Peewee Trinidad, because on election day at exactly 4 PM or as the counting was just beginning, Connie Dy’s watchers, some with her lawyers, distributed copies of a letter signed by DILG’s Puno confirming the Ombudsman’s decision to dismiss Peewee for grave misconduct. They held that Peewee cannot invoke the rule on the Equity of the Incumbent to favor him if a voter wrote only “Trinidad” since he had already been dismissed.
But we were one step ahead of them as our lawyers already obtained an opinion from Alioden Dalaig of Comelec’s Legal Dept. where he says in the letter, “…the decision of the Ombudsman has not yet become final as it has been appealed to the Court of Appeals”. Also, “Wenceslao Trinidad is still considered the incumbent elective Mayor of Pasay City, having been elected to said position in the May 2004 Elections”. We got the copy just that morning of election day and made sure the principal of the school I was supervising had distributed copies to all her teachers.
The opponents’ lawyers looked dumb afterwards and I even got the pricipal to announce on the school’s PA System, “walang kukuha ng kung anu-anong papel kung kani-kanino. Lahat ng official documents, manggagaling lang sa opisina ko.” Our watchers hooted at the now-red-in-the-face people of Connie Dy upon hearing the announcement. I can’t imagine the huge number of stray votes that would have been lost had we not gotten Dalaig’s official stand.

Cocoy, the exit poll is more reliable, than the hourly count. The exit poll, as long as it is done with competence and integrity, gives you a snapshot of the overall voting trend.

Malakas dito si Kiko Pangilinan, and so was Ralph Recto, but I don’t think it is because Filipinos really like them but because of their wives. Puro artista ang choice ng mga DH, etc. na mga pilipino dito. Pati si Victor Wood nga naka-score dito. Mahirap kasi ang sistema. They should allow Filipinos in Japan to just vote for their favorite candidate and then declare the winners from the first high scorers among their choices next time they ask Filipinos to elect Senators for the OAV elections since not all Filipinos can be famiiar with all these candidates. It will also simplify counting for their ballots especially with a lot many apparently not interested to cast their votes.
