Esperon should stay

I vehemently oppose the call of Senators Rodolfo Biazon and Mar Roxas and Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay for former Armed Forces Chief Hermogenes Esperon to resign as presidential adviser for the peace process.

Esperon should stay. He is doing the country a favor by fueling the people’s anger towards Arroyo’s illegitimate presidency. He may yet galvanize the people into action to end Arroyo’s illegitimate presidency, something that “Hello Garci”, NBN/ZTE and other scandals failed to do.

The calls for Esperon’s resignation came after North Cotabato Vice-Governor Manny Piñol related Tuesday night in ANC’s “Strictly Politics” how his text message calling for his constituents to be ready in case of attacks by the Moro Islamic Liberation Front came about.

TV host Pia Hontiveros read the text message that has been going around attributed to him: “My beloved people. Tonight I was told by a top government official that if our opposition to be included in the ARMM will result in MILF attacks, the Armed Forces will not be able to help us all out because that’s the policy of this government. Let us be brave and stand firm. God is with us.”

Piñol confirmed that it was his message to his constituents in North Cotabato following a phone conversation with Esperon about the petition he filed before the Supreme Court for a temporary restraining order on the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement on Ancestral Domain between the Philippine government and the MILF that was scheduled last Tuesday in Kuala Lumpur.

Before that, they were both interviewed on TV. Piñol said he sensed Esperon’s hostility so he called him up. (The former AFP chief is his kumpadre.) That’s when Esperon uttered the famous words: “Pag na-TRO kami diyan, bahala na kayo sa sarili ninyo. We are not going to sacrifice the lives of the soldiers to defend you.”

Esperon never denied that he said those words to Piñol. He just contextualized it to what happened in 2000 when the military attacked MILF camps.

Piñol gave an additional context. He said Esperon might have been piqued with his “lacking balls” description of his stand with the MILF.

Roxas immediately called for Esperon’s resignation saying instead of working for peace, Arroyo’s peace adviser is fomenting trouble.

Makati Mayor and UNO president Jejomar Binay said Esperon’s statement “was irresponsible and very unprofessional, and betrays a mindset that ignores civilian rule.”

“A person who threatens to withhold military support to a civilian population out of spite has no business being the country’s leading peace advocate,” he said.

Binay said Esperon’s statement was “very provocative” and tends to further fuel the tension in Mindanao, generated by the suspended signing of the GRP-MILF MOA.

UNO spokesperson Adel Tamano, a Muslim, said in the same way that he is worried over reports about Piñol’s message, Esperon’s statement is “highly irresponsible and unbecoming for someone of his stature and experience.”

“Knowing that tensions are high in Mindanao because of the MOA on Ancestral Domain between the GRP and the MILF, General Esperon should have exercised statesmanship and acted in an appropriate manner as befits someone who is a member of the government peace panel,” Tamano said.

Biazon, former AFP chief and a veteran of the Mindanao campaign, said he is going beyond Mar Roxas’ call for the sacking of Esperon as peace adviser. He wants the whole peace panel reconstituted.

Biazon said way back in May 19, 2008 he said that by appointing Esperon as peace adviser, “the President might have been junking the peace process with the MILF.”

Of course, Esperon said he is not resigning. Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita defends Esperon saying that Arroyo’s peace adviser is doing the right thing.

I agree. Esperon should not resign.

Borrowing Napoleon Bonaparte’s military dictum, let’s not disturb the enemy while he is in the process of destroying himself.

Yes, traitors like Gloria and Assperon should stay together until their last breath in a guillotine. The sooner the better for the country.

  2. Zardux Zardux

Agree. let’s kick his ass instead

  3. Zardux Zardux

Resigning is quite honorable. Esperon deserves to be hanged.

  4. Shock ako sa statement mo Ellen! But then again, napabungakngak ako afterwards! Hahaha!

  5. Laski Laski

Esperon has a vital role … parang sandok na sisira ng kamada. Yan ang stroke of genius ni gloria para masimulan ang martial rule – that’s a no-brainer.

  6. 50 minutes before the Lanao Del Norte deadline ends. 3,000 PNP were sent to augment the forces surrounding the villages torched by MILF. What will they do there, serve a warrant of arrest? Kabalu says they won’t retreat. Who will blink first?

  7. parasabayan parasabayan

Gee, all my other comments did not go through! I hope this one will. Asspweron is the loyal hatchetman of pandak. He cheated for her in the 2004 elections and got the Cheat of staff position in the AFP and a few ranches in Australia! What would be his prize for the Mindanao MoA? A hefty stock holdings when the multi national companies take over the rich soils and natural resources of Mindanao plus huge ranches in Mindanao for his Australian beef!

  8. Sorry, ano ba to, mali-mali ang comment ko.

Dapat 3 hours and fifty minutes dahil 10:00 a.m. ang deadline. Further, North Cotabato and not Lanao del Norte. Masama yata ang gising ko.

  9. Don’t tell me the whole AFP cannot take care of 800 MILF ragtag rebels? Don’t tell me that the AFP cannot take care of the MILF per se?
This “appeasement” makes the deaths of countless soldiers, men and women in Mindanao in vain… Since when was Esperon sincerely concerned with human lives other than his own?

  11. MILF according to reports has only 800 people to sow fear and horror in the barangays the Pandack Omama is said to have given it a go -signal to occupy as gratitude for services rendered in the last two elections. That’s 3.75 Philippine soldiers per one MILF rebel.

Pag wala pang magawa para patigilin ang mga magugulo, you can bet your bottom dollar, gusto lang ipakatay iyong mga sundalong ipinadala doon just before the pandak left for China with her usual pala brigade including the piggy husband para palitan ng mga bagong recruit I am told are being culled from the loca’s die-hard (because Medy keeps them supplied with the full envelopes) supporters.

This sounds like “kalokohan” but it’s what can be expected from this government that is likewise full of not just “kalokohan” but also “kabulastugan, kawalanghiyaan, kababuyan, etc. etc.

Ms Ellen, I like this article you wrote..I agree 200% that “Esperon should not resign.” Indeed, “let’s not disturb the enemy while he is in the process of destroying himself.”

  17. wow ha… for me gen. esperon shld resign..for the goodness of the nation…

Sorry, I did not take note. I let my cleaner removed them. I use a Japanese firewall recommended by my friends at the police. In addition, I use AVG and BC wipe to clean completely my PC.

  19. I’m sorry for all the trouble that you have to go through to visit here. Ploghost/Wordpress said they have experienced spam attack. It took them time to trace the source. They have removed that suspect account but they still have a lot of cleaning to do.

    Thank you for your patience.

  20. The almost lukewarm reaction we are getting from the supposed opposition is embarassing albeit frustrating. Where are our fearless leaders? Our vocal opposition? The shakers and movers?
I bet the whole scenario would be a lot different if this was election season. SNAP ELECTIONS! and we’ll see so many heroic politicians!

  21. Off topic, but did I see the stupid woman at the Beijing Olympics opening ceremonies with her hand on her breast as the Chinese sang their national anthem? Omigosh, kailan pa naging intsik ang bobang iyan? Sobra namang sipsip niyan.

NHK got a permit to air the Olympics, and we can watch the opening ceremonies, etc. even from our living rooms. I understand CNN, etc. did not get that right/privilege.

I don’t agree with you Ellen, for esperon to stay. My suggestion is to fire esperon and replace hum with palparan. That way it will hasten the process of “destruction of the enemy”. The danger is maraming madadamay na mga innosenteng civilian.

  24. I can’t understand the warped mentality of the publicity machine of the Dorobo. I have difficulty understanding why it should be considered big news in the Philippines when the idiot gets to sit with the biggies in some luncheon even when no one even bothers mention about it in foreign news. Yuck! Bakya talaga ang dating!

  25. kabute kabute

Ellen, I don’t agree with the idea that esperon should stay. I suggest esperon be fired and jailed for dereliction of duty and in his place palparan be appointed. In this manner the destruction process of gloria will be hasten. Palparan would be an ideal replacement for esperon.

I agree with the comment “na masyado ng binababoy ang constitution ng Pilipinas”. Only under gloria and the kind of supreme court we have. The TRO issued by the SC I suspect is just a moro-moro. Lutong macoy. This gloria I’m certain had a hand in that TRO.

It is really depressing and frustrating. Ako nakulong na ni Marcos, nabugbog pa. Pero napanatili ko pa rin ang katinuan. Dito kay gloria, pati buo mong pagkatao sinisira niya.

  26. kabute kabute

Ellen, you can’t avoid the suspicion that we as a nation are being played with by Malaysia, the OIC and the US. The MOA-AD being foisted on us by our own government is I believe a product of a conspiracy. Using peace in Mindanao as a gambit. Malaysia would love to see the Philippines dismembered in favor of the MILF for their own selfish motives. The US does not care at all if we give away our very own territories for as long as they profit from it. And our own government under gloria has its own dark ulterior motive. Its really an eerie feeling that makes you sick in the stomach. And to think this esperon has the gall to “bola-bola” us hoi poloi. Why don’t these congressmen and senators who profess concern and care for the people file a formal protest. All I hear from them are mouthing announcements of protests in the media to gain media mileage.

  27. ron ron

ellen, i’m new here.. i was having a hard time reading your blogs and posting my comments a while ago.is there something wrong?

But anyway..i thought ur serious about letting esperon stay, hehehe. i dont think he’s not fit for the position that he is in right now..i dont even know if he understand what his responsibilities are? hay naku ang alam nya lang ata is to please his president.

Off Topic: Giving away Palawan’s Kalayaan Group of Islands and Mindanao

Why this midget serpent put her former prevaricator Bunye to Monetary Board? What is the importance of Monetary Board in relation to the treasonous dealings of pidal? Why did she put one of his son to be head of Committee on Energy? Why did she put that traitor Angelo Reyes as head of Department of Energy?

Did this midget serpent put her people in those strategic position to corner Meralco? Nope. Meralco is just a smoke screen.

The pidal gangsters main aim is not Meralco but the oil and gas of Palawan and Mindanao. Mindanao’s 1.3 trillion cubic natural gas alone is estimated at $600 billion plus oil deposits in Mindanao have no estimates yet. In Palawan’s oil and gas, how many billions of dollars is it worth? We are talking at least $1 trillion worth of oil and gas deposits from Mindanao and Palawan. No wonder US Pimping Ambassador Kinney, British, Malaysia, and China are interested to support this illegitimate occupant of malacanang.

As the Beijing Olympic opened, a conflict broke out between Georgia and Russia. Was this a coincidence or it was timed that way? Georgia is America’s ally. Both Russia and the US have great interest in that area where the oil supply passes.
Let’s hope the US is not using Georgia as another pawn. And let’s also hope the US would not use our Mindanao the same way. With the US economy at its poorest in years, wars could save them as proven by history.

Definitely, Assperon shouldn’t stay and doesn’t deserve to be free, running around the country, not in our lifetime. Just too painfull to see these sob’s living while the rest are having great difficulties, and doing without. The pig just can’t be trusted. Assperon is a criminal pig and should be held responsible for numerous crimes. And if I’ve the power, I would jail the sob with the hope to hang the ba*tard. No use being nice to this criminals, and whore Gloria since they couldn’t careless about the country.

  32. kabute kabute

Well, we can’t expect gloria to fire esperon. She’s afraid that if she does esperon may “spill the beans ” on her. So she’ll reward esperon the way she did with neri. Contrary to those who say esperon is an honorable person, he is NOT. A lot of those who say he is honorable are hypocrites trying hard to be civil, or rather politically correct kuno. It does no good to be one. You just perfume the malodorous or the rot.

The MOA-AD brokered by Malaysia and others is really not good for us. Malaysia has a large conflict of interest here. Malaysia, if ever it really is for peace should have inhibited itself. Rather, background events show that Malaysia wormed itself into the peace process to advance its interests and destabilize our country. Sure, our government especially the spineless Romulo DFA will sugar coat in diplomatic language our relations with Malaysia. But the stark truth is Malaysia does not care nor respect the Philippines. All it wants, and I say all it wants, is, for their muslim brothers in Mindanao to secede from the Philippines. In that way they will have complete control of that region. These I say because Malaysia has become the stronger country compared to us. We on the other hand, have turned weaker, poorer, amoral, subservient, totally wishy-washy under gloria.

  33. Funny, but why was Manny Pacquiao holding the Philippine flag and not one of the competing athlete?

I wonder how much Manny has promised to give the Garutay and her husband for all the awards, honors, etc. that they have been bestowing on him even through her allies in Tongress, etc. for I doubt if Gloria would do such thing na walang kapalit!

Dureza said the barangays in North Cotabato and Zamboanga City included in the BJE are predominantly Muslim-populated. If that’s the basis for giving autonomy to faith-based group of Filipinos, Sen. Biazon is right, let’s also include in the BJE, certain sections of Quiapo, Taguig and Culiat.

    Isama na rin ang Greenhills.

  35. “When you are in the military, you have to accept the fact you have rejected your right to say what you want to say, how you want to dress, where you want to be. “Jun Esperon

What else can you realistically expect from Gloria’s loyal bodyguard?

Gabriela, in my visit to Naga City in Bicol I noticed a tower with a crescent shape of the moon. I asked my friend if it were a mosque, he said yes. And then added, “I have friends there, they say it won,t be long and all of Naga City will be theirs”. I did not take much notice, but recent events runs shivers up my spine.

  37. “When you are in the military, you have to accept the fact you have rejected your right to say what you want to say, how you want to dress, where you want to be. “Jun Esperon—Juggy

Also, this midget serpent is staring directly to at least $1 Trillion worth of oil and gas deposits from Mindanao and Palawan.

Why would anyone think that there will be an election in 2010?

  40. etcetera etcetera

This MILF knows that their best chance of getting what they want is to have gloria to remain in power. It is not hard to see that the MILF will participate in a scheme that will lead to a martial law so as not to blame gloria’s military for the turmoil.

I have no problem with people of other faith. As a fact, I have friends who are believers of islam. Most are converts from catholicism. One is a lawyer the other an agriculture graduate. My lawyer friend married already twice. He has now 2 families now but live separately. My agriculturist friend has traveled to pakistan and afganistan and has studied in the islamic schools there. Whenever he is in the Philippines he drops by my office for chats – kumustahan. What surprises me now is the change occurring, from being tolerant of other faiths, now that tolerance has vanished. My agriculturist friend who has been exposed to the kind of islam in pakistan and afganistan has become radical. Too radical for my comfort. It is as if – you convert or you die. I am no chauvinist, bigot or racist, but you can’t help feel at a loss under this circumstances. Now they want the christians in North Cotabato to leave or convert. If they don’t leave or convert, their life is in danger. I tend to believe more Vice-Gov. Pinol than liar esperon.

  45. I have no problem with the Moslems, myself. At least, they believe that Christ is a prophet unlike Christians who have not given due respect to Mohammed, their prophet, and the fact that they likewise believe in the God of Abraham. The problem is the religious bigots who have promoted this animosity among the Jews, Christians and Moslems, who all worship the same God in fact, the one and only God of Abraham!

At least, Bin Laden does not fleece members of his religion who go to schools he has built with his inheritance money for them to learn of their religion unlike some hypocrites who obligate even the poorest of their flocks to give to their churches/cults in what is more like an attempt to teach them how to bribe the Lord above for material favors even when religion and the ordinances are supposed to be free.

“Dureza said the barangays in North Cotabato and Zamboanga City included in the BJE are predominantly Muslim-populated.”

LIES. Included in the MOA were Zones III and IV of my hometown, Zamboanga City. These two barangays are in no way Muslim-dominated. Just to paint a mental picture, you’d find the following there: the City Hall, Fort Pilar, the Metropolitan Cathedral, Ateneo de Zamboanga, the Commercial Business District owned mostly by the Chinoys.

I used “were” because a source said that Dureza called Mayor Lobregat to inform him that Zones III and IV have been deleted. But the latest buzz is that they deleted these two but added 40 more barangays.

Yesterday, I attended a forum called Moro Talks in UP. Prof Rodil, a member of the GRP panel was one of the speakers. A kababayan of mine asked him how they came out with the list of territories, with emphasis on the fact that some barangays are not even Muslim-populated. Here’s the gist of what he said.

The MILF panel passes a piece of paper to them asking for territories that they want included.

The GRP panel asks on what basis (are they asking for the inclusion)

    MILF says “Historical”

GRP says “OK” but it will be subj to a plebiscite

MILF says “OK” to the plebiscite

    BOTH panels happy…

at the cost of the current inhabitants whose territories they have bargained away like an ordinary commodity.

Know what, there are reported death of innocent civilians, loss and destruction of properties in the areas just recently taken over by the MILF. All these as a result of the MOA-AD crafted by the Philippine Government and MILF under the guidance of Malaysia. The MILF does not recognize the Philippines Constitution and its attendant Laws, so they are free to create havoc once they are dissatisfied, as they claim. But our government seems to know that the crafted MOA-AD is doomed to fail! It is the height of irresponsibility by our government negotiators and gloria to have pursued the MOA-AD that has resulted to reckless homicide and destruction of property. They should pay and be jailed for these. Probably Atty. Harry Roque can look into these or maybe other concerned lawyers too! A government bound to protect its people has wantonly exposed the very people to danger and even death. Under our laws they shoul;d be made to pay.

They are fighting for their own homeland or ancestral rights. We dont have a real territory yet recognized by anyone. We are not even sure we have a territory. Spain sold their occupied territories for $20,000,000 including Puerto Rico. But they never occupied Mindanao and Sabah. So the ancestral claim is very valid. We should not be surprised if the new mineral scions like Defensor and co. will soon move to the other side as their new citizens. They have as much right to reconquer their lost patrimony. And we have the freedom to choose our destiny as balik Islam perhaps for those fed up with the R. Cath.

Wala bang batas sa Pilipinas against abuse of power to guarantee free speech? Ulol!

  55. Valdemar,

Your history is wrong. Mindanao was mostly jungle during the Spanish rule, and not inhabited by majority of the Moslems who were in fact driven and confined to the small islands in Sulu.

Zamboanga in Mindanao was already a territory during the almost 400 years of Spanish rule of the Philippines, and thus, the development even of Chavacano, a dialect derived from Spanish. Davao, Cotabato, and the other provinces with Spanish names likewise were already occupied and run by the Spaniards who had allowed migration from the northern provinces to clean up the jungles there even as early as the 17th century.

I understand that a lot many of the aborigines in the island of Mindanao in fact did not embrace Islam, so why should the idiot be allowed to give these Moslems, who cheated and rigged the votes for her in the last two elections, to claim these provinces as their ancestral domains?

Esperon was expecting a smooth sailing of his project and was too eager to deliver the goods to his lady boss. A stroke of a pen will do it and its mission accomplished.

And why not, he has all the reasons to be over-confident when people are so meek and passive, the opposition is weak and in disarray and majority of the members of the Supreme Court are Gloria’s justices. And so as far as he is concerned it’s already in the bag. Unfortunately the SC and Pinol his kumpadre did not make that possible. So can’t blame him for being very upset with Pinol and the people of North Cotabato.

His statement of threat however revealed one thing. Is he still in command of the AFP as Chief of Staff and Yano is just a “ceremonial chief of staff”. Just wondering.

  57. What you should demand from these idiots in fact should be balik-kasaysayan para walang naloloko ang mga animal!

Truth is there are lots of relevants materials in the archives of Spain on this. At least, doon, I doubt kung mababoy ni Garutay, who is trying hard to change the history of the Philippines to validate her claim of royalty kahit na wala naman, iyong mga records doon.

Baka ang pinakanuno pa nga niyan takas na kriminal from Borneo, we don’t know.

Sa Bible nga nakalagay na, “…visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children’s children, unto the third and to the fourth generation.” (Ex. 34: 7)

That is why FPJ was, in fact, able to establish his Filipino citizenship on the basis of his birth, etc. with records found in the archives microfilmed by our church with originals kept at our church depository in Granite, Utah especially during the time when children born out of wedlock by parents who had the capacity to get married could be considered natural-born children, and not considered as illegitimate.

Dugong aso kasi!

  58. Tama iyong blogger na nagsabi na if we base the number of Moslems in a town in the Philippines, puede nang sabihin na ancestral domain na rin ng mga Moslems ang Quiapo sa dami nila doon. Hahahahahahaha! It’s actually the situation in the provinces in Mindanao.

  59. Thanks Ellen and Reyna Elena.I missed you all also.

  63. I had the good fortune of working for a CT scan project in Cotabato a few years back and I became friends with a hospital administrator there. She was a brilliant, university educated, foreign trained, medical practioner, and she told me even if she were a moslem she still doesn’t trust these moslem politicians. They do not believe in accountability, like liquidation of expenses etc. Of course if I knew then what I knew now, I’d tell her there’s not much difference with christian politicians…

  64. Yes.

  65. Valdemar Valdemar

    Grizzly,
I didnt make up that history. Read that in the speech of the first Muslim concon member in 1934. What I learned from childhood is that your great great grands came from Indonesia being true Ilocano travellers. You may look at our Indonesian classic noses. The Madjapahit empire went on their heels as far as Pangasinan. Princes Urduja fought off the first chinese intrusion of the Lima Hong horde in Northern Luzon. Those chinese strugglers went up the hills in Baguio. Hmmm, Lima Hong must have five wives also like those in Cebu when Magellan landed in Limasawa.

    Tongue,
Am not a muslm but its Mr. Armalite that tells who is who there. Its nice to do business with them. They paid cash when I went there. Its my inaanak selling short arms. They get their long ones from the police and military dead or alive.

  66. Buti na nga lang iyong simbahan namin naisip na i-microfilm iyong mga records of births and deaths noong panahon ni Marcos. That is why FPJ was, in fact, able to establish his Filipino citizenship on the basis of his birth, etc. with records found in the archives microfilmed by our church with originals kept at our church depository in Granite….

Mormon k pala grizzy. Anyway, d me Mormon but for the sake of historical documentation, we really owe a lot to your Church.

Tama ka rin to say that FPJ was proud to be a Filipino, in the true sense.

  67. Valdemar:

When I studied and did reseach at Oxford U, especially when I started doing research on my own genealogy, too, I realized that there were a lot many fallacies being taught to students of history in the Philippines that are now in fact being corrected like the theory on the land bridges that were taught in Philippine schools before and after WWII to have been used by the aborigines who settled in the Philippines from South Asia based on the report of H. O. Beyer submitted to the Taft government prior to the occupation of the Philippines by the US.

I am not sure about the Indonesians who settled in my mother’s hometown, but I am sure about the Cantonese progenitor of my Mom. 😛

So, if you have read what that Concon member allegation about the Moslems owning the whole of Mindanao in 1934, ignore it, for he must be talking only of his own village! He should have talked
about the kaingin projects done in Davao, Agusan, etc. by migrants especially from the Visayas resulting in the language spoken there mainly based on Cebuano, etc.

One fallacious thing that I learned when I was in grade school in the Philippines was that Africans had too small a brain to be able to know and do anything but to dance and sing. It was in a Geography book published in the 30’s that were used in the Philippines until the early 70s, I guess, for they were still being used in public and private schools when we left the Philippines in the 60’s.

  68. …..about that Concon member’s allegation re the Moslems owning the whole of Mindanao….

I Agree, Ellen, that Asspweron should stay.

  70. Valdemar Valdemar

    Grizzy,
I must have branched out from the Africanse with small but perhaps cute little brains. Until now I am still baffled why China was not subjugated by the English after grabbing a little piece called Hong Kong, or by the Portuguese after subduing Macau, or sowing their seeds in India after getting Goa. Establishing Fort Pilar at Zamboanga may not have registered the whole real estate of Mindanao into the Spanish Register of Deeds that the gentleman for Mindanao was claiming. Anyway I have no quarrel with our unsound territory. I found out most Philippine real estate sold are either in Manila Bay and sometimes outside our three mile limits but many are not existing at all.

The Chinese will never forget the Opium War when that country was eaten into pieces by the hungry and greedy western countries. The Chinese were made opium addicts and then the country was shared by the foreigners. It was not until China became strong that some territories like Hongkong were returned. History shows that China seldom or never invaded other nations. It was China that was often invaded. Having said this, I’m afraid that the Philippines would be like China of the past. It’s now starting in Mindanao. The war is being closely watched by interested parties like the US, Australia, Malaysia. Already, many Filipinos have become drug addicts similar to China’s opium years.
