Sabi naman ni Rep. Danilo Suarez ng Quezon na palaging nakabuntot kay Gloria Arroyo. Sabi ni Suarez, hindi naman daw nakakagulat ang presyo na $20,000 sa isang hapunan dahil marami raw sila, mga 15 o 20 at talaga namang napakamahal sa New York.
Ang nakaka-high blood na hapunan nina Arroyo ay ginawa sa Le Cirque, isang mamahaling restaurant sa New York. Ang mga pumupunta doon ay mga artista at mga mayayaman dahil mahal nga. Maganda raw ang koleksyun ng kanilang wine. Maganda rin ang presyo.
Sabi ni Remonde, si Leyte Rep. Martin Romuladez daw ang nagbayad. Sabi naman ni Suarez, ang nagyaya raw ay ang kapatid ni Romualdez na arkitekto na mayaman at doon nakatira sa New York. Wala makapagsabi kung saan galing ang perang ibinayad sa mamahaling hapunan na yun.
Sabi nga ng isang taga-Leyte, tingnan mabuti raw ang tulay na ginawa doon sa kanila kung matibay baka tinipid yun at iginastos sa New York ang pera.
Ngunit wala yatang bumibili sa kwento ni Remonde. Hindi kasi nakukuha ni remonde ang punto na kahit hindi pa Malacañang ang nagbayad, napakamanhid mo naman na magpakasarap habang ang karamihan ng mga Pilipino ay nagugutom at walang makain.

What is then acceptable to the filipino people? $20,000 is not even acceptable to any public official in the White House. It is illegal.

Let’s assume that the tab was paid by private individuals or by a private entity.
Ordinarily speaking, a “gift” is a payment which benefits a public official. Instances include, meals, lodging, flowers, bottles of wine, tickets to cultural or sporting events, travel expenses, etc. While the making of gifts to clients or prospective clients may be standard practice in the PRIVATE sector, that activity should be highly regulated when the gift is made to a public official.
We should demand legislators to have a display and transparency of tools to implement prohibitions against illegal gifts. It is significant to emphasize that just because a gift falls within allowable legal limits does not mean that the gift could be not be deemed a bribe or illegal gratuity. We need to have a ” Gratuity LAW” . If a gift is prepared “for or because of any official act”—whether in the past, present or future—then the official who receives the benefit (and in many cases the entity making the gift) should be subject to criminal prosecution. Accordingly, gifts cannot be made as a “reward” for past conduct, or as an inducement for future conduct, to any public official; and all gifts must be permissible under the limits applicable to our Laws ( the simple Living above)

Of the 5 projects of SOM in the Phils., I’m proud to have worked with them in 3 – Philam Tower, LKG Tower, PBCom Tower. The other 2, I believe are the Lopez Center in Makati and NAIA3.
