Ruffy B replies

Here are replies by Rep. Ruffy Biazon to comments in a previous blog (The Gallant 32)concerning him. Since the post is already on page two, I decided to post his comments in the front page.

I appreciate it that Ruffy is taking time to address our concerns about his stand in the impeachment.

““BEING TIRED” IS SUCH AN “UNDER-STATEMENT” TO DESCRIBE WHAT WE TRULY FEELS…

you get tired by playing baskeball or exercising, or even after “making love” to your wife/partner….but with such BLATANT disregard by this government in (which you are also a part of) to the well-being and values of the “common” people like Mang Pedro the ice-cream vendor, Aling Juana the mag-gu-gulay, Atong the elementary student having his class under the alatires trees whose father was just killed “for being a militant activist/factory worker”…then seeing the same government officials wining and dining, driving Lexus, Escalades, or BMWs….people like me are not just “tired”…WE ARE SICK TO OUR STOMACK, WE ARE ALREADY VOMITTING, WE ARE ANGRY AND OUTRAGED…and, WE MIGHT BE EVEN ALREADY LUSTING FOR BLOOD…the “black blood” of all the CROOKS, LIARS, CORRUPT public officials and politicians who are continuously “raping” our Motherland”

Yes, I guess saying that the people are “tired of goovernment” (which indeed, I am a part of) is an understatement.
By the way, not all government officials have Lexuses, BMWs, Escalades or other similar luxury vehicles.

Sabi nga “you cannot please everyone.”

In 2001, I ran and won under the banner of the opposition (and I served my whole first term as a member of the opposition in the House). My opponent then was incumbent Congressman Toting Bunye. Prior to serving as Congressman, he served 3 terms as elected mayor and 1 term as OIC-Mayor (after the Edsa 1). Ever since he assumed the post as mayor in 1986, his service was uninterrupted and his ticket always won. In that election, the incumbent Mayor was his long-time running mate, vicemayor to him when he was mayor. All the councilors and the barangay captains were with them.

His affiliation and affinity with former Pres. Ramos was definitely instrumental in keeping him in power. In 2001, he was the GMA adminsitration’s candidate, having been a key player in the Estrada impeachment in the House.

The area where Spartan calls “elitistas” was Bunye’s bailiwick, since he had a long standing relationship with them, and, being a former BPI executive, was supported by the professionals and upper class.

When I ran in 2001, all the odds were against me. In fact, the only person who had confidence I would win was my wife. My parents and my inlaws did not think I would win, along with some other well-meaning friends.

In spite of all the odds, I won handily over my opponent, so convincingly that he did not even file a protest (of course, his sportsmanship is one that may be commended).

In 2004, I was once again up against an administration candidate, both local and national. But I won with the biggest vote that any candidate has ever recevied in Muntinlupa’s history, including the biggest lead over my opponent.

This inspite of the fact that I was involved in the Davide Impeachment (which the civil-society sector took against me), my stand on Reproductive Health (which the Catholic church strongly campaigned against) and my joining the Liberal PArty (which then allied itself with the GMA administration, an issue that the Pro-Erap/FPJ were agitated about).

My votes were overwhelming from all classes and all genders, cutting across political persuasions and religions.

I say this not to brag but just to put into proper perspective how the voters in my district decide on who to support.

I believe I was able to achieve those successes because I did the basic thing that people expect from their government — I CONSULT with them directly, I LISTEN to what they have to say (whether it is praise or crticism ), I tell them the TRUTH about issues and reasons for my stand on those issues, I ACCEPT any wrongdoing and ask for their indulgence, forgiveness and understanding, and I DELIVER what I promise.

It does not concern me whether I win in the next election or not. I can always go back to private life and leave in peace minding my own business rather than be stressed and abuse my health or prematurely grow old worrying about my district’s and the nation’s affairs.

What matters is that in the end, I can face my Creator and confidently tell him that I have done my job sincerely and to the best of my ability. I’m not so much concerned about pleasing men than pleasing God. I know that if I serve the people in accordance to His Will, I will not go wrong with Him and it will not matter what people will say. After all, people have their own prejudices and faults, just as I have my own. God is the only judge we have that will not make a mistake (with all due repsects to people out there who ahve different religious beliefs).

Just like what Allan peter Cayetano said, ang takot ko ay nasa Diyos.

There is absolutely no pressure or influence on my decision. Whenever I am faced with a difficult political decision, I always isolate myself from people who may try to exert influence or pressure, not even my father. He knows that because that’s how he trained me. To make firm decisions based on conviction. The best decisions are not necessarily based on wisdom. The best decision is one that is based on one’s conviction because it is one that you can live with for the rest of your life. Poeple have made wise decisions but lacked conviction. In teh end, they are not sure if they did the right thing, in spite of the wisdom.

In the stand, I made on this recent impeachment, no one influenced or pressured me. NOt my Liberal Party mates, not the memebrs of teh opposition or administration, not my parents, not even my wife, who is my most important confidante and adviser.

“silence will always mean yes to status quo. impeachement voting is finished and to borrow some hated persons words, let us go forward, i.e., to the next battlefield.. what does cong biazon think about chacha.”

I don’t my consider my absence during the vote as silence. There is a saying that sometimes the loudest message is the unspoken word. My absence was noted not by a few people. When the questions were asked, that was when I explained that it was an act of protest to the process that was pre-decided and served as an obstacle to truth.

Liek I said, just because we fight battles differently doesn’t mean we’re not on the same side.

With regard to Chacha, I agree that there are amendments that need to be done on the present constitution.

But with regard to the present move the amend or change the constitution, this is my position:

1. I disagree to the reason being given –the main reason being used for the present drive to change charter is that the rpesent system is supposedly the cause of our misery as a nation. I disagree. It’s the people runnning the system that’s to blame. If we change the sytem without pointing out the faults of those running the system, those faults will simply be carried over to the next system.

2. I disagree with the methods being used—-the People’s Initiative as pushed by Sigaw ng Bayan isa farce. It is not the people who are pushing for this but just the Politicians. (P.I. nila ito). In my district, the overwhelming sentiment is against it, and the signatures were either forged or the people were duped into signing it. Besides, the Supreme Court already said the law is insufficient to do the PI, and yet they insist on it. With the CON-ASS (voting as one version), I think it is the height of arrogance to simply ignore the Senate, especially since the present constitution’s spirit is that of bicameralism.

3. I disagree with the timing —- I believe that the correct time in doing a charter emendment or revision is during a time of political peace. Right now, the poltiical atmosphere is highly charged primarily because there are many unanswered fundamental issues. If we proceed with a chrater change at this time, we will only end up with the constitution that will be owned by a particular political party.

“I hope Cong Ruffy won’t take offence if I ask him what his stand or opinion is on the threat of Mike Pidal to file complaint against Cong Cayetano with the ethics committee, and probably expel him”

I don’t see any reason why I would take offence to this question.

I think there is no reason for Rep. Cayetano to expelled or even sanctioned by the COmmittee on Ethics. There is absolutely no reason for him to resign. Rep. Cayetano is working in behalf of the Filipino people who are demanding answers to these questions, which will not be answered by a complaint filed in the COmmittee on Ethics by the First Gentleman.

Sagutin na lamang ang tanog.

Would it not be “plausible” to have someone like Lee Kuan Yew in our Philippine politics Honorable Congressman R. Biazon?”

Yes, I believe it is plausible. But it depends not just on the politicians but on the people as well.

FIrst, politicians come from the ranks of the people. We must prove that politicians are not reflections of society itself. Inother words, that corrupt politicians are bred from a corrupt society.

I agree that many polticians nowadays are a bane to the people. But I just request that the people should refrain from lumping all politicians together as a “bunch of crooks”. there are good politicians out there. Let;s not make them collateral damage in our effort to weed out the bad politicians.

If we continue to brand all politicians as bad, how can we expect the sincere members of society to stand up and join the ranks of public officials?

Who will then be left to serve the nation? Only the thick-skinned and insensitive will have the guts to be in public office. We would have turned away those with potential to be serve sincerely.

You are correct. I won’t be congressman the rest of my life. I may choose to give up after this term. I might follow my immigrant brother to canada. Yes, I won’t be congressman forever. Yes, I might also be senator, if God wills it.

But just like my fahter said, “Have a vision, not ambition. Vision will give you a reason to serve. Ambition will just make you a hostage of it.”

Pro and anti impeachment congressmen can be compared as “soldiers” in the battlefield. Deserters in the military are executed on the spot. Desertion or intentional abandonment is a serious crime. I think Rep. Raffy Biazon intentionally abandoned his beleaguered comrades in the impeachment deliberations and voting. Where are you Honorable Rep. Raffy Biazon when your comrades needed your support or help? Bakit may sakit ka noon? Non-participation or boycott may only benefits “superior GMA evil forces”. A negative vote can make a big difference in congressional proceedings. The Filipino people want to hear your stand against kleptocracry, election fraud and abuse of power in the impeachment proceedings. I know a tough then Marine Colonel Rodolfo Biazon who stand his ground against R.A.M. superior forces in a failed December 1989 coup d’état. He is a real hero and saver of democracy.”

    Ms. Ellen,

He can still redeem himself by sticking to his beliefs and “convictions”.

Cong RuffyB…let me shake your hand..i thnk u r sincere with what you mentioned on all of the above…but please check as well the latest news where they are relocating the squatters frm the riles..they are neighbor to a dumpsite where leachate will be flooding them in no time…i maybe too naive but atlest u have the sincerity and taking time to look and see what the people really have in their hearts. while we r in the subject of cervical cancer et al..why dont u push for proper population program starting with your area…less is more…kahit mahirap isipin…ang pamilyang may plano may pag-asa at plano para sa kinabukasan..again, may the sincerity and vision stay in your heart.

  4. Ellen,

Ruffy Biazon seems to have what it takes to become a veritable national leader in the near future.

In the UK today, one of the stalwarts of the incoming breed of national leaders is a young man of not even 40 years of age: David Cameron, the new Tory party leader.

Like Cameron, Biazon has an incredibly hard task ahead of him if and when he makes it to the uppermost echelons of power because the leaders before him (and Cameron for that matter)will have messed up the national political landscape so badly that he and Camerion will have to work constantly overtime and double time to undo the mess and untangle the web that current national leaders would be leaving behind.

We need new blood everywhere in the world. The Bushes, the Blairs, the Macapagals of this world are already outdated even before their prime because they chose to lead by corruption, bigotry, hypocrisy, and by senseless aggression rather than the other way around.

The politicians of old must go and pave the way for the next generation of leaders.

The Philippines is lucky that you have a pool of young, upcoming, idealistic breed of people willing to take on the old order for a new order. We are not yet quite as lucky here in Europe… but it will come.

My oldest son has told me that he is considering joining the political arena (against my wishes) because he finds that apathy is not the right solution to problems besetting France and the UK today.

I am glad that Congressman Biazon is listening to the common people.

Stay the course Congressman, and if may give anther unsolicited advice, please DO NOT BETRAY the people! There is no substitute for honesty.

  5. soleil soleil

the Philippines is lucky in so many ways but can only be handled by a few good men so to speak. As i mentioned in anther loop, there is no need to plaster one’s face in the billboards for whatever project one is sincerely pushing for. the people themselves will know and will never forget someone who gave their sincerity..I wish there are more ‘politicians’like Cong Biazon…but he has to look at his back frm now on…he will be the target of many things judging by the looks that the minions of the administration are ‘tuned-in’ to this site…We cannot loose a Cong like RuffyB…As ms Anna says..there is no subsitute for HONESTY and lets not forget SINCERITY…

  6. Emilio:

I second your motion. I have encountered RuffyB before in another egroup, and it turned out to be a fruitful exchange especially when he was convinced to support the OAV advocacy and worked for its passage he did with his dad. So, when I saw the article Ellen posted in her blog about what he has been doing positively in his constituency, I thought, there is the man that we can help even get ideas from what we can actually share with him.

I was disappointed, however, when he absented himself from the second impeachment especially when his absence contributed more to the boasting of the crooks among his colleagues that they were outnumbered even when in fact there must have been among even those who voted for the impeachment who wanted to vote otherwise, but chickened out when he/she failed to see stalwarts of the opposition like Ruffy there and convinced that they had actually given hope, so what the heck and use of resisting any further! It’s actually just simple common sense, but apparently a lot many of those being voted by Filipinos are nothing but what many have come to recognize as “Yagit.”

On the other hand, RuffyB is not one who has entered politics just to be praised and flattered especially by those who can promise him support and patronage that are part and parcel of dirty Philippine politics. In a way, I cannot help sympathize with him because politicians over here are freer and can be more sincere in their dedication and commitment to serve the people. There is none of the attempt to just try to please the people to be accepted. It is more like the people has voted for me because they believe and know I can do what I have committed myself to do for them. There is that big difference, and this kind of attitude in fact is reflected even in the attitude of those who support a candidate over here as the volunteers who help a candidate win. As a volunteer for a woman candidate in our district that I supported in my desire to bring to the attention of public officials here the plight of Filipino women being deployed to Japan even with the pimping of their own government, I have witnessed this kind of dedication and commitment that are fortunately recognized by wise voters and reason why a great many of them candidates here are able to compete more fairly with less temptation to commit fraud, graft and corruption.

Apparently, RuffyB needs our help and support to fortify himself even from the lure of graft and corruption, and the snare of the evil woman now squatting at the palace by the murky river who is in fact the mother of all lies and deceit akin in fact to the father of lies and deceit that is Satan.

Unfortunately, I cannot vote but I am willing to support him in some other legal ways and means. I actually own a property in Alabang, and I pay my taxes for it. If I settle down in the Philippines, I’ll probably be under the constituency of RuffyB.

  7. Soleil:

I’ll probably need your expertise someday. Keep in touch.

I’ll be needing a reliable architect and contractor for building a house on my lot at a subdivision in Alabang someday. Medyo later kasi I need to have my vacation house built in Mexico first.

Kakatakot lang iyong hurricane. Fortunately, hindi madadale ang area where I have bought a lot. Mas maganda ang privileges offered by the Mexican government for investors like me kaya inuna ko doon.

Sa Pilipinas, nakakatakot especially when you have a wannabe criminal leading the country today. Walang security sa totoo lang. You should know because you are in the business there. Kaya hindi na natapos ang kawatan!

this blog gave me hope once more, after cong biazons reply. this is the first time i got an answer from a politician directly though thru a blog. i have learned that if people can communicate, they can solve their problems. as i said the 2nd impeachment is finished and one must go forward to whatever is next..somebody mentioned cameron from uk and i tend to agree that we need young people to change the political landscape in the phil.. young people have much more energy than older ones and one need a lot of energy to change anything in the phil.. on the other hand one must also have an ideology or conviction which people can easily understand and identify with. cameron is trying to change the focus of the old liberal ideology on free enterprise by placing in front green-ecological politics. he had been working hard on this and even visiting neighboring countries to learn from them too..

  10. Toney Cuevas Toney Cuevas

Fact of the matter is Ruffy Biazon is not one of the gallant 32. At least I didn’t notice that Ruffy voted for impeachment or even support the impeachment. Overwhelming evidences are out there aginst Gloria and to justify it is quite unecessary at this point in time. It’s like Gloria were part of and headed the coup d’etat that force out the legitimate President of the Philippines. Nothing but meaningless words, bs if you will. We got enought of lip services in the Philippines and I not buying it, same as Gloria that she’s only answerable to her god. C’mon now, we aren’t just got off the boat.

What was at stake here was the TRUTH. One should never compromise the truth. Period. And if I may quote Pres. Bush, “it’s either you’re with us, or with…”

The choice was simple: TRUTH or LIE?

Ninang niya yong FAKE.

Did I hear Ruffy says he might follow his brother to Canada? Then you may want to follow one Filipino who was in PM Chretien Cabinet (minister of Veterans Affair.) Here the playing field is level and the game is fair. Your experience would be very valuable for us here. You’re always welcome..

  14. artsee artsee

Ruffy to Canada?

Lets leave god out of politics! And how god will judge such person’s actions. It’s nothing but propaganda of politics. What we hope as regular folks are quite simple and we don’t ask for much. All we want to hear which is quite rare in Phil. politics is the truth and nothing but the truth. A straight answer and not about playing basketball and/or making love to your wife/partner… Excuses nor apology is not an answer, at least not at the present circumstances when truth has been buried over 5 years ago. Quit the fancy words and/or smart a.. answers. Just give it to us straight! It’s all we ask!

Ruffy Biazon what’s your personal opinion of Gloria Arroyo? Many of us believe Gloria Arroyo is fake, illegitimate and shouldn’t be in Malacanang? I also deep in my heart confidence that Gloria Arroyo cheated FPJ of presidency and that Gloria conspired with Garcillano to make certain the million votes in her favor. Give us your own opinion of Gloria Arroyo. Your respond will be greatly appreciated.

  16. vic vic

Ok, I must also for the sake of all, respectfully request the frank, direct, honest and without any reservation your very own personal opinion as the character, moral, and the fitness and legality of President GLORIA ARROYO occupancy of the office of the President of the Repuclic of the Philippines??

  17. Diego K. Guerrero Diego K. Guerrero

Muntinlupa Rep. Raffy Biazon may have the “best stand” based on his blogsite for non-participation in the impeachment proceedings and voting. I disagree. You missed the train Mister Congressman. Let’s keep it that way. The issue is that the actual battlefield was inside the hall of congress NOT in the blogosphere. Tapos na ang boksing sa ring. Shadow boxing is far different from actual fight. The issue of legitimacy Gloria Arroyo’s presidency remains unanswered. Majority of the Filipino people believes Gloria Arroyo and her cohorts cheated the 2004 presidential election. In fact, Muntinlupa electorate rejected GMA in 2004 polls. It would be more acceptable if he voted abstain. Abstention can be interpreted as partial dismay or 50-50 stands on the issue. We hope that the Gallant 32 will continue to expose, prosecute and serve justice to abusive public officials.

  18. C’mon Ruffy, even before the Justice Committee started the deliberations, you already knew the outcome that was to befall on the 2nd impeachment complaint. Obviously, majority of the members of that committee are GMA diehards. It is higly impossible and improbable that a man of your “caliber” would still “hope against hope” that Macarambon et. al. would allow the presentation at least of the evidence. Nevertheless, I don’t have a choice. I have to take your word for it. But I am sorry to say this Mr. Congressman: it reeks of hypocrisy and lack of sincerity.

Your reliance and applicaton of the doctrines of Sun Tzu as your shield of justification for your NON-PARTICIPATION in the voting at the plenary is sorely misplaced. We are not simply in a “war”, Ruffy, as you would like to put it. Just because the chances of success are nil should not be a justification for not showing up at a time when you are most needed. Your NON-PARTICIPATION instead helped the impostor and her cohorts to proclaim to all and sundry that “it’s time to move on”. If you really believed in what you stood for, you could have shown your moral support to the “opposition” by participating in the voting, even if you knew as everybody did that the impeachment complaint was doomed from the start.

You could not blame people like me who now doubt your sincerity. Words are not enough, Mr. Congressman. It must be coupled with actions.

By using Sun Tzu as the basis of your argument, you seemed to imply that Chiz and company who dared to defy the odds did not know “when and when not to fight”. If you prefer to measure your principles according to their chances of success, then you are no different from those you seem to abhor.

  19. Toney Cuevas Toney Cuevas

Ruffy Biazon why are you awol when roll call were called during impeachment when your present were such important to the people??? You not being at the front line, battlefield if you will, denied the people of the proper justice and a win for evil doers. I hope you’ll remember it the next time around, if there such opportunity.

  20. Pope John Paul II apologized to the Jews. He said things could have been different if the Catholic Church condemned the inhumane acts of Hitler. Inaction cuts both ways, it could also mean self-preservation. But I must admit that Ruffy’s cancer prevention program is worth praising.

  21. artsee artsee

  22. And Mr. Congressman, when do you precisely fight? When the pro-impeachment Congressmen already have the numbers to forthwith send the complaint to the Senate? Sheesh. That smacks of plain and simple opportunism.

  23. What could have motivated the young Biazon’s non-participation at the plenary? In the realm of speculation, the following are the possibilities:

    1. He sincerely believes that his absence was a great service to the people; or

    2. He believes that since the complaint would have been dismissed, it was better to lie low so as not to further court the ire of the impostor. The elections are fast approaching. He badly needs the “pork” to finance his projects.

  24. artsee artsee

Sigurista lang si Ruffy…typical of a politician.

Dati, sabi ko let’s give him the benefit of the doubt. Ngayon, let’s give him the doubt (tama ba?)

I will always look for someone who will make a stand and be consistent in his/her words…

    Korek ka dyan!
More on ‘doubt’ rather than giving chances.
    Huli na para doon.

  29. Who says to leave out God in this mess? It is at times like this in fact that God’s inspiration to people like RuffyB is most needed. Unfortunately, he has not asked enough to be inspired to fight this battle like an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, for it is what this fight is all about.

We hear so much of the publicity stunt and the boisterous claims of the Pandak’s puppies in the Philippine Tongress that the second impeachment would not pass Congress even before all those impeachment claims were submitted for review and scrutiny at Congress. I could not help noticing in fact the smirks on the face of the guy accepting the impeachment claims, and I kind of want to puke knowing where he would stash them away later like the boor at the Malacanang who would even have pictures taken with him stepping on documents handed to him by protesters like Guingona, et al na halata mong nagsisipsip para bayaran lalo ng mahal with taxpayers’ money by his bogus president.

Ang ingay ng mga walanghiya so what’s wrong with making similar or louder noise to drown if not match the noise that they are making. For this, I agree RuffyB has made a mistake, and lost the chance to prove himself as a good alternative to the crooks dominating Philippine politics then, now and even in the future if Filipinos will not learn their lessons!!! 🙁

Now, let’s refrain from blaspheming God by saying that prayers for example will not change anything. I dare to disagree. I have seen a lot of miracles and fights succeeding because of prayers said with unwavering faith in God.

Now, why are Filipinos not getting answers to their prayers? The point is who are Filipinos prayers praying to? It actually depends on who they are addressing their prayers to.

What many do not realize is that there is a rule followed even when praying to the one and true God. It is more like one must have the right electrical connection to light a bulb, or as in the case of a candle, the right ingredient!

As Senator Pimental has stated, the impeachment is not dead. They can try submitting another one next year as the law provides unless you, guys, allow the Pandak to use her friends in the SC to sanction the ChaCha, and take not just control but full ownership of the Philippines! If she succeeds, don’t be surprised when you hear her change the name of the country to “Lualhati” the way her father changed the date of the Philippine independence even to honor his traitor of an ancestor who earned the people of Pampanga the unpalatable namecalling, “Mga Dugong Aso”!

My grandfather in fact witnessed the assassination of Antonio Luna by the same group of Aguinaldo-Macapagal who wanted to take full control of the KKK, pero hindi naman pala kaya! But then, who would want to research more on why the Spaniards paid Aguinaldo big lumpsums after the assassinations of leaders of the KKK? Lalo pa ngayon! I bet you, a lot many of the documents on this must have already been tampered with.

Kawawang bansa!

    Mexican legislators’ disruption defies Fox

    By Manuel Roig-Franzia

    The Washington Post

MEXICO CITY — In a historic rebuke, opposition legislators seized control of Mexico’s congressional chamber Friday and blocked President Vicente Fox from delivering his final State of the Nation address.

Fox, who was adorned in Mexico’s green, red and white presidential sash, stood awkwardly in the chamber’s foyer for nearly 10 minutes before conceding that he had no chance of entering. Surrounded by bodyguards, Fox was handed a microphone, quickly said that he would leave and gave a copy of his speech to a legislative official.

The legislators who commandeered Mexico’s congressional building are aligned with the Democratic Revolutionary Party, or PRD, and its candidate, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who is demanding a full recount of the July 2 presidential election results.

After giving up, Fox turned and left the building with his wife, Mexico’s first lady, Martha Sahagun, who had donned an evening gown for the occasion. Fox smiled and nodded, while Sahagun chatted with the crowd that formed around them outside the building, which had been ringed by riot fencing and was guarded by 6,000 police officers. Then they disappeared into a waiting vehicle.

The scuttling of the presidential address, which broke a tradition dating 180 years, played out live on television in Mexico, where a dispute over the results of the election to replace Fox has brought massive protests and chaos to Mexico City’s downtown.

López Obrador, a populist former Mexico City mayor who has led the demonstrations, claims that fraud allegedly committed by Fox’s National Action Party is responsible for his apparent narrow loss to Felipe Calderón. After refusing López Obrador’s request for a full recount Aug. 6, Mexico’s special election court is expected to certify Calderón’s victory within days.

PRD legislators rushed the stage in Mexico’s legislative chamber, which was draped with a huge Mexican flag, while Chamber of Deputies President Jorge Zermeno tried in vain to get them to sit.

The legislators chanted “vote by vote, polling place by place,” repeating a phrase that López Obrador and his supporters have plastered on posters for the past two months. Some waved signs that said “Fox is a traitor,” and others lofted Mexican flags.

Their shouts could be heard in the distance as Fox climbed the building’s steps and stood before the glass doors leading from the foyer into the chamber. While the PRD legislators chanted, Fox shook his head and grimaced. Finally, he nodded his head and a cheer burst out of the chamber.

“This is a scandal,” Alejandro Rosas, a historian, said during one of the many news programs that filled the airwaves with shocked commentary after the incident.

Fox’s departure from the legislative building capped a strange sequence of events that captivated this city. First, thousands of police officers in riot gear surrounded the legislative building, anticipating a full-frontal assault by thousands of López Obrador supporters.

The masses of protesters never materialized. Dozens of street vendors who had anticipated a big crowd stood idle on the streets leading to the building. Police officers practiced using their shields to block violent demonstrators, squatting and rising repeatedly.

While the police waited for an onslaught that never came, López Obrador convened his latest in a series of dozens of “informative assemblies” in the large downtown square, the Zocalo, where thousands of his followers have been camping for the past month.

“Only the unjust resort to violence,” he told the crowd.

More importantly, he told the crowd to stay in place instead of marching to the legislative building as everyone had expected. The crowd cheered wildly, hanging on every word from López Obrador, who has vowed to form a parallel government and not accept Calderón’s ascendancy to Mexico’s highest office.

López Obrador’s crowds had slackened in recent weeks, but on Friday there was a renewed sense of energy as thousands of college students, back from summer break, poured into the square.

While López Obrador spoke, and later while Fox was being turned away, Calderón — the man who will soon likely lead this country — was nowhere to be seen.

Fox, meanwhile, later spoke directly to the nation in a televised speech from his office. He stressed his government’s success bringing democracy and transparency to the country. He also touted economic growth, conceding that poverty and lack of safety remained “an outstanding debt.”

He added that the actions of the leftist Party of the Democratic Revolution, or PRD, were not a personal affront.

“This attitude, contrary to democratic practices, does not represent an offense against myself, but rather against the presidential office and Mexican society,” he said.

López Obrador’s supporters in the Zocalo saw it differently, cheering the news that Fox was unable to give his speech. “The people united will never be divided,” they chanted.

  33. Mrivera Mrivera

    artsee,

hindi ako relihiyosong tao, pero yung sabihin mong diyos ang diyablong pinaniniwalaan ng tinamaan ng magaling na glue cemetado de cara na yan, isang malaking paglapastangan sa tunay na diyos. pwede at tama lamang na sabihin mong dinidiyos. but i don’t mean any harm sa iyo. just a piece of advice.

  34. Mrivera Mrivera

    the bystander,

as i’ve stated before, there are only two categories where those public officials fall – isang makabayan at isang maka kaban ng bayan. (kulit ko, no?)

    Ystakei:

What I said in verbatim,if you’re referring to the statement that I made, “Lets leave God out of politics”. Surely, I didn’t say, ” to leave out God in this mess”. I commented in direct response to Ruffy’s statement, ” it will not matter what people will say…God is the only judge we have that will not make a mistake”. Also, recalled what fake Gloria once said, “only God can judge her”. I truly believe that there are place for everything, and I’m not judging Ruffy’s christian or whatever anyone’s belief. It’s of my opinion that we all going to be judged when the time come, judgement day. But, in this life, specifically the politicians in the Philippines are unswerable to the people, the constitution and the law of the land. It’s their sworn oath to the people. We hold them accountable since they all benefit to the grace that we afford them. We are their checks and balances. This is our moment now while we are in this world, and the law of the land created by the people must be respected at all time in which includes Ruffy and Gloria in particular.

congressman ruffy b. you have explained yourself more than enough. what is important is that, the position you took in the impeachment issue is the actual sentiment of the people in the district that you represent because that is what you really are, the representative of your constituents. you cannot arrogate unto yourselves the popular will of your people even if it is contrary to your own personal conviction. unfortunately for you, your rabid critics want you to think and act in conformity with their own mindset.

there is a saying that “for those who believe, no explanation is necessary, for those who do not believe, no explanation is possible.” after saying a mouthful on the position you took, i suggest, it would be better for you to unload your emotional baggage in dealing with unfair criticisms. there is no sense wasting your time and effort writing kilometric explanation just to satisfy people who are leery of your every motive from the very start. their contrary opinion will not matter most because they are not the ones accountable to your constituents and to God.

of course, your constituents, which i am sure you have consulted before taking your stand, are divided on the issue, but i am sure you took the position adopted by the majority of the people you represent.

you are right, you cannot please everyone in a society like ours so utterly divided, splitting endlessly like an atom. try to please one, and you will end up pleasing no one.

if deep down in your heart you fully knew that your vote reflects the true and actual sentiments of the majority of the people you represent, then there is nothing to worry about. all other side comments you read here are malicious innuendos not worth your time. when your heart is pure and clean, it is not possible to impute malice on other people’s act.

wow..such deluge of comments…i still feel that everyone should be given the benefit of the doubt esp with someone young and having a vision and mission…young blood will still be better than stale stinky attitude of the bogus administration that this country is having. It will take a ton of courage for someone to ‘go againts all odds’knwing that he/she could do other things for wht is now…kung baga, kung may maaaring pwedeng gawin ngayon na, ay gawin na..ang ibang hinaing ay pwede munang ipagpaubaya sa iba. obviously, yes the Cong has a ‘premonition’ that the impeachment will be junked bt i thnk ang nasa loobin nya ay ‘ano muna ang unang magawa, ay syang gawin’. yes , it was a numbers game, aside frm being present physically(which i thnk he should have done)..bt i thnk it will birng him more anxiety in being present. all i am saying is that may hindi talaga tayo alam dahil hindi tayo ang nasa sa situation like him..Cong RuffyB, i wont tell you to show us what u really are made of, bec i think you knw that the Fil people and nt only ur constituents are already mature and educated enough of what a government should really be doing for its people, how it should run a country. hindi na po mangmang ang pilipino kahit na almost 50% ay below poverty line…kahit karamihan ay kunternto sa mga telenovela at hand-outs..show us what u are really made of, at sa palagay ko, hindi naman ganun kakitid ang mga kababayan mo.

Yuko, thank you so much for the trust…will be my pleasure to assist u in whatever way i can 🙂 …i can refer u to very reliable contractors…

  45. Soleil:

I have not met RuffyB in person, but I have encountered him in an egroup before. Still I am not in a position to say that he has sold his soul to the devil just because he did not vote for the impeachment this time, for his absence is looked at more as conniving with the devil than what he says is his protest.

Mas hanga tuloy ang mga tao kay Cayetano for what he boldly did trying to expose the crook that has a bank account in Germany na sinabi naman na nasa pangalan ng anak e bakit si Fatso ang nagagalit at nagbabanta ng libel kay Cayetano. Ang labo yata! You’re right sa sinabi mo na nahuli sa bibig iyong isdang mataba!

At least, RuffyB takes time to know what the people say, even those not of his constituency for it is by this kind of interaction that he can react with them, and really learn what they need and/or feel, and at least correct wrong misconception about him that may be detrimental to the things that he has already done for the good of his constituents and the Filipinos in general lalo na sa mga blogs at egroups na invaded ng mga Internet Brigaders ni Pandak.

So when I read a post in blogs like this at halata ko nang Internet Brigade ni Pandak, hindi ko binabasa at sinasagot ang mga sulat nila.

Iyon nagsabing may tatlong grupo. May criminal investigation background din ako. Wika nga sa Ingles, it takes a thief to know a thief (naks Ingles iyan!).

  47. SO NOW…
it is established that there are public “servants” who read comments like those posted in this and similar blogs.

I can just imagine how glue looks in the middle of her renowned tantrum! …..LOL!

  48. I agree artsee………

Cong. Biazon has years to make amends if he wants to mend his reputation and show us [his constituents] that he means well and will do whatever it takes to “serve the people” who placed him there.

I must admit he took time to answer the lingering questions of some posters/bloggers here…and that, to my mind, is a sign of his good breeding, and, as you said, ‘sincerity’…

Others disguise themselves and send their underlings to “shake” some blogs.

But as I always say, Only time will tell…..

  49. Cory by the Sea:

This is not a hunch. It is a established fact. Iyong anak na babae, iyan ang trabaho. If you visit (you register if you are not registered) the OFW lists at yahoogroups. you will encounter this daughter somehow. There was a time when I answered a message in one of such lists (Talsik) where she blogged under a fictitious name. Biglang sumagot sa pangalan niya. Di nabisto siya! Since then, she has blogged in some aunt’s addy, etc. and/or cloned by some psycho who probably makes blogging as his/profession as he/she is almost all the blogs and egroups I am in at nakikipag-away pa sa sarili that he/she used to do in a newsgroup that I first met this person.

Mainit ang mga walanghiya kay Ellen kaya no doubt that they are reading this blog, and monitoring everyone. Our advantage in Japan is that we are protected by the law guaranteeing freedom of speech. Calling the idiot names is not a criminal offense. It is a privilege! Over here it is not considered libelous especially when they exhibit such attributes!

  50. Beware of the Internet Brigade spreading misinformation. Acute, yes!

They have actually attempted to discourage a lot many of us to blog here by preventing our access to this blog. Halata mo kasi pati si Ellen who owns this blog could not at one time access it kasi may naka-block.

A number of IT mania among us in fact has discovered that the bloggers are even based in the US most probably under the direction of the son who now practically resides in SFO or Cebu where it is reported they have a communication center where those hocus-pocus figures that gave the Pandak must have been produced.

Unfortunately, with a police force answering to the beck and calls of the crook, mahirap itong mapatunayan with the witnesses not being able to get proper protection. Not even the sanctuary a bishop is granting a valuable witness will not be enough to undo what should be undone.

I should write to Enrile on this as a matter of fact.

  52. Before I used to write comments in ph. blog….
2 araw bago ma-publish!

Walang freedom of speech sa Bayang Magiliw!????

    ANO YAN!?

    Hanoba kayo?!!!

    Maybe it’s true!

Wala namang ginagawa yatang trabaho itong anak, meron ba?

Amen.

  54. Ruffy B, I’m confident we’ll be side by side in many of the struggles ahead of us.

Thanks and good luck. Don’t allow “I have two discs” Bunye to return to power in Muntinlupa.

  55. Cory by the Sea:

Kalog ka rin ha! It reminds me of someone who had a sexy picture pero ang pangit ng mukha. Sabi noong kaibigan kong kano, “Wow!” Bastos!

  56. Iyong sinasabi mo Cory by the Sea na censorship, totoo iyan pero in most cases bayaran iyong mga pro-Pandak. Nalaman ko iyan sa editor ko who told me that they are paid high and then they pay the newspapers to publish their articles. Pambihira ang mga katulad ni Ellen as a matter of fact. Province, grabe. Tinadtad pa! Kawawang bansa!

    PATALSIKIN NA, NOW NA!

  57. Cory by the Sea,

  58. Ellen, RuffyB,

Anybody against graft and corruption we support. We actually plan to invite them to join us when we meet with Parliamentarians in Japan to make sure that ODAs given to the Philippines are not squandered by the Pandak.

Busy kasi dito ngayon because Koizumi is stepping down and there is going to be a sort of board meeting in the leading political party to choose his successor.

Ours is a parliamentary but that is because Japan is a monarchy, and the system is more patterned after that of Britain made Americanish by the Constitution and laws imposed by the Americans on the Japanese after WWII. I am actually in a movement against the revision of the pacifist Constitution that ironically is being endorsed by the mad man in the White House.

  59. artsee artsee

    COntinuation….

Yes, I guess saying that the people are “tired of goovernment” (which indeed, I am a part of) is an understatement.
By the way, not all government officials have Lexuses, BMWs, Escalades or other similar luxury vehicles.

I think you’ve “missed” the points of my “analogy”…your “bad feelings” on reading such comments from us is “getting the better off from you”… pasensya na ginoong ruffy biazon, I am a “mere nothing…a man with an alias on this forum”…but for me, you’re just like the other “typical TRAPOS” that “littered” our country’s “dinosaur-like” political scenes.

I thought you would be not of the same “cuts” like those “offsprings” of other “old-time politicians”, whose “ticket to the political arenas” were merely “handed” like a “free movie pass” to them by their loving “Folks”. But don’t get me wrong..I mean, your Dad earned “admirations” during the last elections “for threathening” gloria herself that “ballot boxes” would be opened if “he (your Dad) really lose from the late bobby barbers because of the hokus-pokuses being performed by the evil empire’s sorcerers (abalos, garci, et al)”. Sen. Rodolfo Biazon’s political career got a “fresh boost of energy” thanks to his “growls”.

  61. Spartan Spartan

Toney Cuevas….the continued using of HIS name in vain by these “TRAPOS” can’t save their “souls from oblivion”…no matter “which” of the Gods they call….like all of us that breaths the polluted air of the Philippines would “croak” when our times are up..it would be just the diffrence of the “services” and “coffins” that would matter…hehehe.

    Spartan,

Apparently, you are the one who missed the point. I said “Buti pa si Mang Pedro at ALing Juana may pinagkakakitaan at si Atong nakakapasok sa eskwela”, in comparison to people in my district who don’t have any means of livelihood at all. Of course, MAng Pedro,ALing Juana and Atong deserve more than what they are getting from government. I was just pointing out that others have even less than what your three personas have.

With regard to my statement that not all government officials have luxury cars, it is a statement of fact (which, of course, you dispute with your example of a red-plated fortuner with a decs sticker). I would like to give you and example—former Secretary Emi Boncodin. There are many others. Again, I say, NOT ALL GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS HAVE LUXURY CARS. THAT’S A FACT.

Finally, please refrain using quotation marks too often. It gives the impression that you are quoting directly from another person even if it is not a direct quote. If the thought is your own, you do not need to put it in quotes.

  65. ruffyb ruffyb

    artsee,

    you said:

That would be inaccurate. I never said I regretted anything.

  66. Spartan Spartan

ruffy b…no point for me to exchange views with you anymore, apparently I said you “missed the point” and then you “countered” that it was I “who missed the point”. The bottom line is you’re the “tongressman” and I’m just one of those “ranting and raving”(as per your statement describing noisy people like us) discontent TAONGBAYAN.

    and one more thing…you said…
Finally, please refrain using quotation marks too often. It gives the impression that you are quoting directly from another person even if it is not a direct quote. If the thought is your own, you do not need to put it in quotes.

naging “teacher” ka pa??? I used this “mark” to TO PUT EMPHASIZE to that particular word, phrase, or statement that I am typing in…because it’s my way of “saying it STRONGLY”, sort of giving life to the written lifeless letters. It’s as if we are just having a coversation in front of each other… Now, hope you got my point on this one?

  67. Spartan Spartan

by the way ruffy biazon…do you use this tech called tex messaging? how do u text…I mean let’s say you’re sending a msg to your wife, girlfriend, utol..whoever…”Pauwi na ako ng bahay…”, do you send the message in this form??? most people including me would have made it like this…”pauwi n me bhay”…”d2 n ko bhay”…”san n u”…now, would my english/pilipino grammar teacher in college correct me on the way I “murder” the rules of writing??? I don’t know, but one good thing for me in “chatting” with other people that I really don’t know personally in the net, is that it enables me to somewhat “learn” his/her character, attitude, temperament, thinking, sensitivity, and most of all…IQ….’coz I lose interest exchanging ideas with “low IQed people”.

pinag-uusapan natin ginoong ruffy biazon ay tungkol sa “POLITIKA” at mga “KATARANTADUHAN” ng mga salbahe at manglolokong “TRAPOs”, then suddenly you would “question me about” grammar?????? no wonder ganito ang sitwasyon politikal ng ating bansa, andami palang “MABABAW” na tao dito.

  68. Toney Cuevas Toney Cuevas

Of course we can only appreciate Ruffy’s present on this blog and answering very conveniently on selected comments provided by the bloggers. However, I still like to get to the matter of substance that I believe quite important to the citizenry of the Philippines, the real truth. Ruffy B.has failed to provide us the response to numerous questions, specifically to why his name wasn’t part of the 32 gallant men and women of the house of congress. Why he was awol during the impeachment? Still like to know from Ruffy B. if Gloria Arroyo is illegitimate head of the State. And that Gloria Arroyo should be investigated and prosecuted for lying, cheating and stealing.

A more direct question to Ruffy, Gloria and Miguel Arroyo admittedly in public that they planned and plotted to overthrow the government of President Estrada, why are you not (Ruffy B) doing anything as a congressman, member of Congress to prosecute Gloria and Miguel Arroyo for the crime against the people and the Republic? What are you doing,if any to recover the missing P728 millions tax payers money supposedly to help the poor farmers of the country. Why aren’t you doing anything to prosecute Bunye when he lied in Congress with “I got two tapes.” Garcillano lied in Congress, the other Gonzales lied in Congress and it seems everybody lied in Congress, yet the Congress and you Ruffy are not doing anything to prosecute those liars. Why Ruffy B.?

  69. Spartan Spartan

artsee….actually I was still logging-in on this forum, though I “lay-low” for awhile in posting my comments…I was still “reeling back” from the anger and pain I had after the “jokers” in congress “killed” without even giving any chance for it to “breath a few air” the 2nd Impeachment Complaint for against gloria. Ika nga “masyadong na-carry”….hehehe. 😉

Can we not give Rep. Biazon a break? How many politicians of his stature would even care respond to comments here? I even find the comments more of personal attacks than constructive ones. Let’s show some respect. He was elected by his constituents; this, at least should merit some consideration and courtesy.

  74. Dominique Dominique

I agree with Npongco. Instead of condemning those young politicians, who may have deviated from the path we want to take, we should engage them.

He took a stand that we did not agree. He took time and effort to explain it. On my part, I appreciate it.

Give Ruffy B. a break?? How about the populace, are they getting a break? How about those that has to leave the country for measley few bucks and put their life on the line so they can feed their family, are they getting break? We gave Ferdi and Imelda a break, instead they both emptied the Philippine Treasury. Obviouly without to many details of explanation, bogus Gloria Arroyo is getting all the break, so where are we now as a sovereign nation? Right! With all due respect, all politicians must change first and foremost without giving them break and they must proven themselves, show great improvement until all the Pilipinos are free from bondage of poverty. Ruffy B. already got his break very much so that he doesn’t need to worry where the next meal will come. Garcillano (Hello Garci)got his break, Bolate got his break he’s still alive…we can go on. If anything, we need to keep after them politicians since it’s the only tools available to us. What else we got on this blog? And many thanks to Ellen, our honorable host.

Okay, tell me and show me a politician who is 100% clean and I shall also drop this Rep. Biazon. When Imee Marcos did not appear and vote in last year’s impeachment, did you cry the way you’re crying today? Is Mr. Biazon worse than Imee? Imee did not explain or apologize to us; only to her colleagues in the opposition. On the other hand, Mr. Biazon took time out from his busy schedule just to explain his position in this forum. Think about that my friends…

Politician 100% clean? Of course not. Not about getting personal, absolutely not, won’t even consider it, nor attacking Ruffy B. All I ever wanted was for Ruffy B. to kinda provided an honest answer to the many questions asked of him. He has been avoiding it and pls. review all his responses, nothing that make any sense. I couldn’t agree with you more! We finally have something in common! Although I don;t lose interest exchanging ideas with, as you term it, “low IQed people”. I do not think I can be a judge of someone else’s IQ because I’m not a clinical psychiatrist nor a psychometrist. But I do lose interest in people who think they are better than other people.

I believe I have answered the question about my position in the last impeachment vote, both here and in my blog. Failure to get the answer to that question is not on my part. I think I have explained that sufficiently.

My thoughts on legitimacy of PGMA? As far as I am concerned, that question is still unanswered. The issues raised against the integrity of the elections remain unresolved. Legitimacy is not yet settled. The allegations of cheating are still wanting for answers.

Should PGMA be investigated? Of course, especially since there are allegations raised.

With all due respect, you imply that I don;t do anything with regard to those issues. My simple reply is I do. But to be successful in resolving those issues, it takes the collective effort of many individuals and a lengthy process.

Actually, going over your question, it wasn;t a mere question. It was an accusation in the form of a question. “Why are you not doing anything”…unless you personally know me and are privy to everything that I do, I think you have no basis to put it that way.

Npongco and Dominique: Thank you very much!
