False claims

Don’t believe those TV ads about your child becoming an Einstein or a Mozart by drinking formula milk.

“They are false and malicious,” said Dr. Nicholas Alipui, country representative for the Philippines of the United Nations Children Fund (Unicef), adding that no artificial product could be better than mother’s milk.

Alipui, Health Secretary Francisco Duque and breast milk advocate Innes Fernandez were at the Bulong-Pulungan at Sofitel Philippine Plaza yesterday to help us unlearn the many falsehoods that we learned from too much TV watching.

The death — and rebirth — of GO

by Adel Tamano
Spokesman of the Genuine Opposition

The following article appeared in today’s issue of the The Daily Tribune. Tamano holds Master of Laws from Harvard, Juris Doctor at the Ateneo de Manila and a Master of Public Administration, UP

Last Saturday, while in conference with Sen. Serge Osmeña and RC Constantino, the Genuine Opposition campaign managers, at the former headquarters of the GO at Manilabank in Makati City, I had a bittersweet realization: GO was now officially dead. No, this has nothing to do with the fight for the Senate presidency that has been thoroughly discussed in the media as the sign of the demise of the GO. It had everything to do with the completion of the GO’s objective as a political organization and a coalition.

Mongrel majority

Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano takes pains in explaining to friends and supporters that his support for Sen. Manny Villar for Senate president does not mean that he has abandoned his being a responsible opposition to the Arroyo administration.

“My core values (on truth and justice) remain solid,” he said.

I believe Alan and I do not regret having voted for him. But I feel sad.

Jason Aquino’s house burglarized again

The house of Maj. Jason Aquino, who is currently detained in Camp Capinpin in Tanay, was again burglarized early this morning.

This is the third time in six months that intruders got into Aquino quarters in Camp Aguinaldo. the first time was on Feb. 3. It happened again in March 3.

Maria Fe Aquino, wife of Maj. Aquino, said she was in Tanay visiting her husband when it happened. Her household help called her up early in the morning called her up to inform her of the incident, which she immediately reported to the military camp’s security office.

Malacañang seeks way out of Trillanes problem

Malacañang knows there’s no way they can prevent Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV from assuming his seat in the Senate. They want to save face by asking Trillanes to apologize to the bogus president. I can’t wait to hear Trillanes’ answer.

Trillanes may get off with slap on the wrist

Senator Antonio Trillanes IV might end up with just a slap on the wrist for leading hundreds of soldiers in the 2003 Oakwood mutiny — if he agrees to plead guilty to the charges and apologize to President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

Protecting personal honor and dignity (2)

Last Wednesday, we ran the first part of the letter of then Lt. S/G Antonio Trillanes IV

Philippine Navy dated Aug. 8, 2003 in answer to the lies being spread by the Arroyo administration about him.

A lot of things happened in the past four years. Trillanes is now a senator although Malacañang is trying to prevent him from performing his duties to the Filipino people.

Of late, the same lies have resurfaced. Following is the other half of the letter:

Velarde, Vidal know about guilty verdict in Estrada trial

El Shaddai leader Bro. Mike Velarde and Cebu Archbishop Ricardo Cardinal Vidal have been informed that the Sandiganbayan has found former president Joseph Estrada guilty of the crime of plunder, DZMM reported Thursday.

In a report by DZMM correspondent Anthony Taberna, no less than President Arroyo talked to Velarde and Vidal about the anti-graft court’s verdict on Estrada’s plunder case.

According to DZMM sources, Mrs. Arroyo talked to Velarde before the May 14 elections and told him that she wanted the Estrada trial to end in a conviction.
