Zaldy and Bedol under WPP: a stinking package deal

Tasked to save family's wealth and political machinery
Surely, Justice Secretary Lilia de Lima knows the ramifications of her willingness to consider Zaldy Ampatuan, former governor of the Autonomous Region for Muslim Mindanao and one of the 196 persons accused in connection with the Maguindanao massacre, as state witness in a possible election fraud case against Gloria Arroyo.

“That is a new case, a totally different case and we can consider them, or whoever, it is Zaldy Ampatuan or Lintang Bedol. It would depend on the extent of their participation, “ De Lima said a day after Zaldy and former Maguindanao election supervisor Lintang Bedol said in separate interviews with ABS-CBN’s Anthony Taberna where they dangled information everybody knew about cheating in the 2004 and 2007 elections. Nothing in the published reports, though, directly implicates Gloria Arroyo.

De Lima also echoed Malacañang’s assurance that Zaldy will not be considered state witness in the Nov. 23, 2009 massacre that killed at least 58 persons, 32 of them journalists. This was despite the offer of Zaldy that he was willing to turn his back on his father, Andal Ampatuan Sr, identified by witnesses as the mastermind of the gruesome murders, and his brother, Andal Jr, identified as the triggerman.

Poll protest linked to battle for Senate presidency

(This story came out last Tuesday but Basiang got in the way from my posting it here.)

Senate Electoral Tribunal’s findings present strong proof of cheating in 2007 polls

The Senate Electoral Tribunal (SET) has voted to recount over 75% of 73,000 precincts nationwide in the 2007 senatorial elections, after Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri filed a counter-protest to an electorial complaint filed by Atty. Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III.

The SET voted to do the recount, which could last beyond Zubiri’s term, even if it was already proven that Pimentel won over Zubiri in the polls.

With just a little over 18,000 votes, Juan Miguel Zubiri snatched the last spot in the 2007 senatorial elections from Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III.

Wala pang report ang Department of Foreign of Foreign Affairs.

Zubiri to be proclaimed

Courtesy of the manufactured Maguindanao votes, Juan Miguel Zubiri becomes senator.

ABS-CBN’s report:

The Supreme Court denied on Friday the petition of Genuine Opposition candidate Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III to issue a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) on the proclamation of Team Unity bet Juan Miguel Zubiri as the 12th senator of the May 14 elections, TV Patrol World reported Friday.

The SC hearing on the oral arguments on Pimentel’s petition lasted seven hours. Seven Justices voted to issue a TRO while the other seven rejected the petition of Pimentel.

The death — and rebirth — of GO

by Adel Tamano
Spokesman of the Genuine Opposition

The following article appeared in today’s issue of the The Daily Tribune. Tamano holds Master of Laws from Harvard, Juris Doctor at the Ateneo de Manila and a Master of Public Administration, UP

Last Saturday, while in conference with Sen. Serge Osmeña and RC Constantino, the Genuine Opposition campaign managers, at the former headquarters of the GO at Manilabank in Makati City, I had a bittersweet realization: GO was now officially dead. No, this has nothing to do with the fight for the Senate presidency that has been thoroughly discussed in the media as the sign of the demise of the GO. It had everything to do with the completion of the GO’s objective as a political organization and a coalition.

Nobody delivers the message more effectively than Trillanes

Someone had to tell Migz Zubiri the despicable thing that he is doing and Sen. Antonio Trillanes took it upon himself to do it.

We applaud Trillanes for that.

Last Friday, in an interview after his oath-taking before barangay captain Ruben Gatchalian in Caloocan City, he blasted at Zubiri for insisting on taking the last senatorial race slot when, Trillanes said, he knew very well the people did not elect him for that position. He said: “I believe Congressman Zubiri knows deep in his heart that he benefited from cheating. If he is decent enough, he wouldn’t accept it because it is something you want your kids to emulate.”
